Wed, 04 Mar 2026 - 42min - 157 - When Your Team Waits For Instructions (Building A Business That Thinks For Itself)
In this week’s episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I tackle one of the biggest frustrations business owners quietly struggle with: a team that won’t move without being told what to do. If decisions keep landing back on your desk… if you feel like the bottleneck… if your business slows down every time you step away — this episode is for you.
I cover:
🔥 The 5 Levels of Leadership (Why Most Never Reach the Top)🎖 Lessons From the British Army: Leadership Under Pressure📘 How to Move Through All 5 Levels
Your team is essential. But how you lead them determines whether your business grows… or stays permanently dependent on you.
Most business owners say they want a proactive team. What they actually have is a group of capable people waiting for instructions — not because they’re lazy, but because of how the leadership structure has been created. This episode is all about building a business that can think for itself, not one that freezes when you’re not in the room.
At the heart of this episode, I break down the 5 levels of leadership, a model that completely changed the way I lead and mentor teams.
Most business owners operate at Levels 1, 2, or 3 — the safer, more familiar levels of direction, supervision, and control.
Very few ever progress to Levels 4 and 5 — where true leadership happens and where teams learn to think, decide, and act without depending on you.I walk through:
What each level looks like in real business lifeWhy teams behave differently depending on where you are leading fromThe hidden habits that keep leaders stuck in “manager mode”What it takes to move into genuine leadershipIf you’ve ever wondered why your team doesn’t “step up,” this framework will give you the clarity you’ve been missing.
Drawing on my leadership training and service in the British Army, I bring a practical, pressure-tested approach to this conversation.
In high‑stakes environments, leaders don’t have the luxury of being the only decision-maker. Teams must think, adapt, act — because waiting for instructions costs time, momentum, and sometimes lives.
The same principles apply directly to business:
Clarity of intent is more powerful than constant instructionTrust is built through consistency, not oversightResponsibility should be pushed down through the organisationGreat leaders build other leaders — not followersThis isn’t theory. This is leadership proven in the real world.
I don’t just describe the problem — I walk step-by-step through how to fix it, so your business grows beyond your personal capacity. If you’re tired of being the bottleneck, this episode is the turning point.

Wed, 25 Feb 2026 - 20min - 156 - Scale Without Selling Out (Value Led Leadership)
In this week’s episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I challenge one of the biggest myths in entrepreneurship: that growth is always the right move.
Bigger markets.
Bigger numbers.
Bigger exits. That’s what the world tells you to chase — but what if scaling up forces you to abandon the very values that made your business successful in the first place?
Growth has a cost.
And not all costs are financial.🔥 A Client Story: Choosing Values Over Expansion
🎧 This Episode Is For You If…
📘 What I Break Down in This Episode
1️⃣ The difference between a Scale & Exit mentor and a typical business coach
2️⃣ Why growth at any cost often leads to regret
3️⃣ A real-world example of value-led decision-making
4️⃣ How to assess opportunities beyond the revenue
5️⃣ Why saying no can be a powerful strategic move
6️⃣ How to scale with intention, not pressure
In this episode, I dive deep into value‑led leadership and what it really means to scale with integrity rather than ego. For many business owners, the pressure to “level up” can be intense — investors, competitors, and even well‑meaning friends can push you toward opportunities that look impressive but feel wrong.
I’m here to remind you: if growth requires you to compromise your values, it’s not growth — it’s self‑sabotage.I share the true story of one of my clients who was offered a massive opportunity to expand into the American market. On paper, it looked perfect:
Huge audienceExplosive growth potentialBig financial upsideBut the deeper we looked, the clearer it became that the opportunity came with strings attached. Conditions that clashed directly with the company’s culture, ethics, and mission.
Instead of chasing the shiny promise, they stepped back, evaluated the real cost — ethically, operationally, and culturally — and ultimately made the bold decision to walk away.
That wasn’t a loss.
It was leadership.
It was clarity.
It was integrity in action. You want to grow without losing your soul
You feel pressure to scale in ways that don’t sit right
You’re tired of the “bigger is always better” narrative
You value purpose as much as profit
You want direction, not dilutionIf any of that resonates, this episode will give you the clarity you’ve been looking for.
And why it matters more than most people realise.
The hidden traps behind “big opportunities.”
Not theoretical — this is lived experience.
Culture, ethics, alignment, lifestyle impact, and long‑term consequences.
Sometimes the best move for your business is the one you don’t make.
And create a business that grows stronger — not just bigger.

Wed, 18 Feb 2026 - 24min - 155 - The Price Rise You're Avoiding (How To Do It Without Losing Business)
If the idea of raising your prices makes you uncomfortable, anxious, or worried about losing customers, this episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast is one you cannot afford to skip.
🔥 In this episode, I break down:
💭 1. Why business owners avoid raising prices
📉 2. How undercharging slowly suffocates your business
📖 3. The story of six years without a price rise
💡 4. Why a price increase is not greed — it’s survival
🎯 5. How to raise your prices confidently and correctly
🎧 Why This Episode Matters
In this episode, I dive into one of the most common — and most damaging — patterns I see in small businesses: staying underpriced out of fear.
I share a real story of a business owner who hadn’t raised their prices in over six years. Costs went up. Workload increased. Margins eroded. Yet prices stayed frozen — not because it made sense, but because of fear.
Fear of backlash.
Fear of customers complaining.
Fear of rocking the boat.
Fear of not being “worth it.”And they’re not alone. Most pricing problems aren’t financial — they’re emotional.
From guilt to comparison to discomfort with confrontation, I explain the real (and often hidden) reasons owners resist change — even when they know their pricing no longer works.
When prices stay still but costs rise, the maths stops working. You look busy, but underneath the surface, you’re struggling to breathe.
I walk you through the powerful, real-world example of a business owner who didn’t raise prices for six years — and how dangerously close they came to breaking the business without realising it.
If your pricing can’t sustain your business, your business can’t sustain you. Raising prices is often the most responsible decision you can make.
I cover what to consider, how to prepare, and how to communicate a price rise in a way that feels ethical, fair, and respectful — without losing your best customers.
If you know your pricing is overdue for review…
If you’ve been putting it off for months or years…
If your business looks successful but feels tight behind the scenes…This episode is your wake-up call.
You don’t need more clients.
You don’t need longer hours.
You need pricing that reflects reality — not fear. This isn’t about charging ridiculous fees.
It’s about charging sustainably.👉 Download Your FREE Business Freedom Assessment:

Wed, 11 Feb 2026 - 29min - 154 - Stop Guessing & Start Leading: How Data Transforms Your Decision‑Making
In this week’s episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I speak directly to every entrepreneur who is still making decisions based on gut feel, guesswork, or whatever feels urgent in the moment.
If that’s you, this episode has the power to completely change how you run your business.🔥 Here’s what I walk you through in this episode:
📊 1. Why so many business owners still rely on guesswork
🔍 2. How Data & Decisions fit into the Owner's Operating System
⚠️ 3. The danger of running blind
📈 4. How data empowers you rather than restricts you
🎯 5. The turning point for every business owner
🎧 Why This Episode Matters
Most business owners I meet are busy. They’re working hard. They’re reacting to everything. But they don’t actually know what’s happening inside their business. They don’t have clarity. And when you don’t have clarity, every decision feels risky… because, frankly, it is.
In this episode, I break down why data is the foundation of confident, strategic decision‑making, and why so many business owners unknowingly operate blind. More importantly, I introduce you to the Owners Operating System, with a specific focus on Data & Decisions — the MSOFT pillar that turns chaos into clarity and guesswork into intentional leadership.
This isn’t about spreadsheets, corporate dashboards, or drowning in metrics.
This is about using the right data to take control of your business.I reveal the hidden reasons entrepreneurs avoid data — lack of time, lack of confidence, and fear of what the numbers might actually say.
This is the backbone of MSOFT, and the key to running your business with clarity instead of crisis.
Without data, you’re reacting instead of leading. You’re hoping instead of planning. And every choice — pricing, staffing, marketing, growth — becomes a gamble.
I show you how understanding your numbers gives you control, confidence, and direction — without turning you into a “corporate analyst.”
Whether you’re just starting out or years into business, learning to measure what matters is the moment everything shifts.
When business owners tell me they feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or stuck, it’s almost always because they’re flying blind. They’re making decisions based on pressure, emotion, or guesswork — and then wondering why results aren’t consistent.
But when you embrace data, you stop feeling at the mercy of your business.
You become proactive, intentional, and strategic. The Owners Operating System (Data & Decisions) is about three things:
Clarity.
Confidence.
Control. And those three things change everything.
If you want to stop guessing and start leading with purpose, this episode is essential listening.

Wed, 04 Feb 2026 - 17min - 153 - Busy Fool to Strategic CEO (Reclaiming 10 Hours A Week)
In this week’s episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I tackle one of the biggest misconceptions in entrepreneurship: the idea that being busy means being productive. If you feel like you’re constantly working, constantly firefighting, and constantly stretched — but still not moving forward — this episode is going to feel uncomfortably familiar.
🔥 Here’s what I unpack in this episode:
🧠 1. Why entrepreneurs fall into the ‘busy fool’ trap
📉 2. Why busyness destroys scalability
💔 3. The gap between why you started… and how you’re living
🛠 4. The Three D’s: The simple framework that frees 10 hours a week
🔍 5. The truth about time management
I meet business owners every day who started their companies for freedom, flexibility, and control… yet somehow ended up with the exact opposite. Long hours. Endless to‑do lists. No headspace. No strategy. No time.
Without realising it, they’ve accidentally built themselves a job — a stressful one — instead of building a business. In this episode, I break down why “being busy” is not a badge of honour but a warning sign that something deeper is broken inside your systems, structure, or decision‑making. Busyness feels productive, but most of the time it’s just noise, distraction, and avoidance in disguise.
I walk through the psychology behind doing everything yourself — the beliefs, fears, habits, and excuses that keep business owners stuck.
No business grows if every task, every decision, and every problem relies on you. If your business only works when you’re working, you don’t own a business — you own a job.
Most people start businesses for freedom and flexibility. But they end up with 12‑hour days, guilt when they slow down, and the constant feeling of being behind.
I break down my practical, proven system that helps business owners stop defaulting to “I’ll just do it myself” and start making clear decisions that protect their time, their energy, and their profitability.
It’s never really about time. It’s about systems, boundaries, and leadership — and I explain how to rebuild each one.
If you feel overwhelmed, stretched thin, constantly busy but never progressing, this episode is your reset button.
Not more hustle. Not more noise.
Just clarity. My goal in this episode is simple: to help you step out of the chaos and start thinking like the Strategic CEO your business actually needs — not the exhausted operator you’ve accidentally become.
You don’t need more hours.
You need a different approach.👉 Learn more or work with me:https://www.mytruenorth.biz

In this week’s episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I take you behind the scenes of a real client journey from 10 years ago — one that completely transformed the way I teach business owners to make decisions. It’s the story of how saying “no” to a big, exciting opportunity ultimately enabled my client to sell their business for a significant profit down the line.
🔥 In this episode, I break down:
📊 1. Why Data Beats Emotion Every Time
❌ 2. The Power of Saying No
🚧 3. Growth Pitfalls Most Entrepreneurs Miss
🧪 4. Why Testing & Validation Are Non‑Negotiable
At the time, the opportunity looked incredible on the surface. Most entrepreneurs would have jumped on it immediately. But instead of reacting emotionally, we slowed everything down and dug into the data using my #ADDAZERO methodology. What we uncovered changed everything — and prevented them from walking straight into a decision that would have stunted their growth, drained their resources, and tied them more deeply to the business they were trying to scale.
This episode is all about the kind of decision‑making most business owners think they’re doing… but rarely are.
I share how using evidence, trends, and validation helped my client see the long‑term implications of their decision — not just the shiny short‑term potential.
Good opportunities are everywhere. The right ones are rare. I talk about why learning to say no is one of the most profitable skills in business.
From founder dependency to resource stretch to operational chaos, I highlight common blind spots that kill momentum.
Before committing to any major opportunity, you need clarity on risk, reward, and downstream impact. I walk you through how I help clients stress‑test decisions, so they don’t end up firefighting later.
After working with hundreds of business owners and analysing more than 150 business failures, I’ve seen one pattern repeat again and again:
Businesses rarely fail because of one huge mistake; they fail because of dozens of untested “good ideas” that slowly drag the business off‑course. This episode gives you the tools to stop that from happening to you.
If you’ve ever found yourself overwhelmed with opportunities, unsure whether to say yes or no, or worried you might make the wrong call, this story will give you the clarity and confidence to decide with intention, not emotion.

https://www.youtube.com/@MyTrueNORTHUKWed, 21 Jan 2026 - 24min - 151 - How to Stop Being Everyone's Problem Solver & Still Be In Business
In this week’s episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I dive into one of the biggest silent killers of small businesses: the habit of constantly solving everyone else’s problems at the expense of your own. If you’re always stepping in, always rescuing, always making yourself the default fixer — this episode is going to hit home.
🔥 Here’s what I break down inside the episode:
🧩 1. Why business owners fall into the fixer role
❌ 2. How saying yes to everything destroys scalability
❤️ 3. Why passion matters more than hustle
🚫 4. Who I won’t work with (and why that matters)
📈 5. The My TrueNORTH approach to building 6‑ & 7‑figure growth
🏁 6. When to scale — and when to start planning your exit
I see this pattern in almost every business I mentor. Owners put clients first, put staff first, put “urgent issues” first… and put themselves, their structure, and their future last. It feels noble. It feels like leadership. But in reality, it traps you in a reactive cycle that destroys profitability, scalability, and clarity — and builds a business that simply cannot grow without you.
In this episode, I share real examples from the diverse businesses I work with and explain why being “helpful” can quietly become the most expensive habit you have.
From passion to fear to people‑pleasing, I unpack the real reasons entrepreneurs default to problem‑solving instead of boundary‑setting.
Every yes to someone else is a no to your growth, your goals, your team development, and your business model.
I explain why I ONLY work with owners who genuinely love what they do — and why passion is the fuel that makes boundaries sustainable.
I talk openly about why I turn away certain businesses, and how that decision protects both their success and mine.
How we help founders stop firefighting and start building systems, structure, and freedom.
Not every business should scale. Some should prepare for exit. I break down how to know the difference.
If you’re running a business you care about but you’re stuck doing things you were never trained to do — or never wanted to do — this mindset shift will change how you lead and how you grow.
When you stop being everyone’s problem solver, you stop being the roadblock.
Your team improves.
Your clients respect boundaries.
Your business becomes scalable.
And you finally get back the time, clarity, and energy you’ve been missing.👉 Work with me or learn more:

In this week’s episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I share a mindset shift that has had a profound impact on how I lead, how I plan, and how I move through the inevitable challenges of running a business.
🔥 In this episode, I walk you through:
🧠 1. The Power of the Future‑Self Perspective
🌤 2. How I Reset After COVID, Failures, and Fatigue🔍 3. How This Reframe Cuts Through Stress
🚀 4. Why Every Business Owner Should Try It
It’s the simple but transformative practice of projecting yourself one year into the future — and then looking back at your business from that vantage point.
This forward‑focused, retrospective lens cuts through emotional noise, reduces stress, reframes challenges, and brings the clarity so many entrepreneurs are craving. Instead of dragging the weight of “what’s gone wrong” behind you, this approach allows you to step into the version of yourself who has already navigated the obstacles you’re facing right now.
In this episode, I open up about how using this technique helped me shed the lingering weight of COVID setbacks, failed budgets, stalled plans, and the frustration that had been building over several years. When I viewed my business from the future, I found something that had been missing for a long time: fresh energy, optimism, and a renewed sense of control.
Why stepping a year ahead and looking back gives you emotional distance, mental clarity, and a practical roadmap.
I talk candidly about how this technique helped me shake off years of accumulated frustration and rediscover momentum.
When you shift from “staring at the struggle” to “learning from the future,” the pressure eases and solutions become obvious.
If you’re overwhelmed, overthinking, or overworking, this perspective shift can create the mental breathing room you desperately need.
Most business owners try to move forward while dragging the past behind them.
But your past does not get to define your future direction.
Your future should. If you're ready for a mental reset, strategic clarity, and a more grounded approach to decision‑making, this episode will give you the mindset tools to break out of survival mode and step into the leader your business needs you to be.

Business Inquiries: Enquiries@MyTrueNORTH.bizWed, 07 Jan 2026 - 16min - 149 - Episode 108 - Legacy Mindset: Build a Business That Outlives You
In this powerful episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I unpack the critical mindset shift every conscientious business owner must make: from operator trapped in daily fires to legacy leader planning for a future without you at the helm.
Drawing from over a decade of mentoring UK SMEs through My TrueNORTH and the award-winning #ADDAZERO methodology, this episode cuts straight to the heart of why most "accidental" owners fail to scale sustainably. You started your business for freedom, impact, and security—not to become its prisoner. Yet, without intentional legacy planning from day one, that's exactly what happens. Hiring staff isn't just about delegation; it's the signal to architect a self-sustaining enterprise.
Most business leaders sidestep these realities until a crisis hits. I lay them bare with military-precision clarity, honed from my British Army background and frontline coaching:
What happens when you've had enough? Burnout, health scares, or life events force the issue. Without a succession blueprint, your exit becomes chaos—value tanks, team scatters, legacy evaporates.
How do you protect your team instead of abandoning them? Loyal staff who've poured their lives into your vision deserve continuity, not uncertainty. Legacy planning creates clear paths for promotion, ownership stakes, and role evolution.
How do you build a business that survives without you? Shift from "owner-dependent" to "systems-driven." Embed processes, culture, and accountability so the company thrives on autopilot, unlocking true scale.
These aren't abstract theories—they're battle-tested from 100,000+ businesses I've audited. Accidental owners often hit £1M revenue, then stall because legacy thinking starts too late.
Planning your exit isn't a retirement pipe dream; it's rocket fuel for current operations. Here's how it transforms your business:
Ignites Team Motivation: When staff see a compelling future—growth trajectories, equity shares, leadership ladders—they fight harder. Purpose beats perks every time.
Builds Bulletproof Culture: Shared vision aligns everyone. No more silos or short-termism; decisions ladder up to long-term value.
Attracts Top Talent: In a tight UK SME market, ethical leaders win the war for skills. Showcase your legacy roadmap in job ads, and it becomes your unfair advantage.
Maximises Exit Value: Buyers pay premiums for turnkey operations. #ADDAZERO clients routinely add zeros by future-proofing early—think 3-5x multiples vs. fire-sale scraps.
Secures Your Freedom: Work less, earn more, live intentionally. From cycling long-distance rides to keynote stages, reclaim your life without guilt.
If you're a UK-based SME leader—scaling teams, battling ops overload, or eyeing ethical exit—this episode is your wake-up call. Perfect for those feeling the #ADDAZERO pull: conscientious growth without burnout. No fluff, just actionable frameworks to audit your business freedom today.

Wed, 24 Dec 2025 - 45min - 147 - Episode 107 - Contact, Wait Out! - Military Agility for Business Survival
Have you ever faced a crisis where panic mode kicked in, only to watch smarter operators thrive?
In this powerful episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I draw from my British Army days to unpack "Contact, Wait Out!" – the command that means assess calmly, adapt ruthlessly, then act with purpose. No knee-jerk reactions, just battlefield-tested resilience for UK business owners navigating chaos.
From Brexit shocks to Covid lockdowns and beyond, I've seen SMEs fold under pressure while others scaled. Drawing from over a decade of mentoring through My TrueNORTH and the #ADDAZERO methodology, I break down why agility separates survivors from casualties. You started for freedom and impact – don't let unpredictability trap you in ops overload.
This isn't theory; it's my frontline playbook, refined across 100,000+ business audits:
Contact: Spot the Threat Early. Identify disruptions fast – supply chain breaks, market shifts, or team burnout. Example: Covid hit; agile owners pivoted to online while others clung to old models.
Wait Out: Assess Without Panic. Pause to gather intel. What's the real impact? Resources on hand? In Brexit, resilient firms stress-tested suppliers months ahead, avoiding £100K+ losses.
Adapt & Act: Pivot with precision. Build flexible systems, diversify revenue, and train teams for volatility. Result? #ADDAZERO clients turned 2020-2025 turbulence into 2-3x growth.
Real talk: Post-lockdown UK SMEs faced 40% failure rates (ONS data), but agile ones emerged stronger. My military medic background taught me: hesitation kills, but rushed moves wound deeper.
In unpredictable times, this mindset isn't optional – it's your scaling superpower:
Builds Unbreakable Resilience: Stress-test ops quarterly; spot weaknesses before they sink you.
Boosts Team Confidence: Train staff in the framework – they gain clarity, reducing turnover by 30%.
Unlocks Growth Opportunities: Spot pivots others miss, like e-commerce booms during lockdowns.
Maximises Exit Value: Buyers crave adaptable businesses – add zeros ethically, exit on your terms.
Reclaims Your Freedom: Less firefighting, more strategy. Cycle those long rides guilt-free.
Perfect for accidental owners battling 2025 headwinds: inflation, skills shortages, regulation. No fluff – actionable steps to audit agility now.
Run a "Contact" Drill: Weekly scan for threats; log in a shared dashboard.
Wait Out Protocol: 24-hour rule before big decisions – data over emotion.
Adapt Playbook: 3 contingency plans per revenue stream.
Measure Wins: Track agility score: response time down, recovery up.
**#ADDAZERO Tien: Integrate into your Business Freedom Audit for sustained scale.
If you're scaling teams, dodging disruptions, or building for the long game – this episode arms you.

The "Contact, Wait Out!" Framework in Action - Why Agility Fuels Ethical Scaling
Wed, 17 Dec 2025 - 18min - 146 - Episode 106 - Built By Mistake, Scaled By Design – Escape the Trap
Tired of your "simple idea" business consuming your life, leaving you working 80-hour weeks just to keep the lights on?
In this eye-opening episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I reveal the hidden patterns trapping thousands of UK founders – and the #ADDAZERO blueprint to redesign for freedom, scale, and exit.
From lifestyle startups that morph into monsters to £1M+ SMEs stalled by owner-dependency, I've audited 100,000+ businesses through My TrueNORTH.
Most owners build accidentally: great at revenue, disastrous at systems. Result? You're the bottleneck, burnout looms, and exit value craters. This solo deep-dive flips the script with data-backed insights from our Scale and Exit Audits.
No theory – these are the traps I've fixed for clients adding zeros ethically:
Mistake #1: No Freedom Audit from Day 1. You chase revenue without mapping owner hours. Fix: Baseline your time; target 50% reduction in 90 days.
Mistake #2: Hiring Reactively. Staff fill gaps but create new dependencies. Solution: Hire for #ADDAZERO seats – systems first, people second.
Mistake #3: Revenue Without Profit Engine. Scaling topline kills margins. Audit: Pareto your offers; kill 80% low-margin clients.
Mistake #4: Culture by Default. Teams drift without purpose. Build: Legacy vision shared quarterly – retention jumps 40%.
Mistake #5: Exit Blindspot. No buyer-ready ops means fire-sale exit. Prep: Document processes; hit 3-5x multiples.
Real client story: "Accidental" owner at £750K, trapped 70 hours/week. Post-audit: £2.2M revenue, 25 owner hours, team-run. That's designed scale.
Unlike generic coaching, #ADDAZERO is military-precision for conscientious leaders:
Data-Driven Audits: Benchmark against 100K+ SMEs – spot leaks instantly.
Ethical Scaling: Grow without burnout, family sacrifice, or shady tactics.
Exit-Ready from Jump: Build buyer appeal into DNA – freedom now, wealth later.
Proven Results: Clients average 2.7x revenue in 18 months, 65% owner time freedom.
Perfect for UK SME owners hitting ceilings: £500K-£5M revenue, ops overload, ethical growth hunger. From cycling epics to keynotes, reclaim your life.
Run Your Free Audit: 15 minutes uncovers your traps MyTrueNORTH.club/bsu
Map Dependency: List everything you do – delegate 70% in 30 days.
Implement #ADDAZERO Framework: Systems > People > Scale > Exit.
Quarterly Freedom Review: Track metrics; adjust ruthlessly.
Build Legacy Culture: Share 5-year vision – watch loyalty explode.
Stop building by mistake. Design your escape.

Wed, 03 Dec 2025 - 17min - 144 - Episode 104 – “Communication is Key" - The £5M glue you're missing
Have you ever watched a multi-million-pound refurb project grind to a halt because tenants couldn't reach anyone when builders blocked the car park?
In Episode 104 of the Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I bring on Dougal Paver, Managing Director of Merrion Strategy, to unpack the St James Business Centre Warrington transformation – an 80,000 sq ft multi-user hub reborn through ruthless stakeholder communication.
Dougal Paver brings 25+ years in marketing, PR, and stakeholder engagement within the UK's built environment. He's advised major developers, regeneration agencies, and landowners on high-stakes projects, blending comms expertise with development policy and property regeneration. Clients rave about his vast network, public affairs mastery, and ability to scale operations – but what sets him apart is his trench-level experience with real tenants, contractors, and chaos, not just theory.
This episode hits home for business owners, property professionals, and operations leaders wrestling with change, disruption, or scaling without losing control.
Key Themes Explored with St James Examples:
Communication as Must-Have Infrastructure: Dougal flips the script – it's not "nice to have," but your operational backbone. Advance warnings, tenant briefings, and regular updates kept St James moving.
Stakeholder Mapping Mastery: No more "tenants vs contractors." Map everyone: building management, facilities, tenants, contractors, local authority, car parking, IT, cycling, reception, café. Each gets tailored comms for their needs.
Minimising Downtime in Live Projects: Phase works smartly, flags noise/access/service hits early, and buffers with wins like new café, breakout spaces, and tech hub to cut interruptions.
Brand & Perception Shift: Rebrand from dated to modern flexible hub. It's not just steel and concrete – it's how people feel about the space, service, and comms culture.
Trust via Transparency & Accountability: Clear escalation paths (who to call, when), promises kept. Informed tenants tolerate disruption, stay loyal, and boost long-term retention.
You'll walk away with tools to retain tenants, slash chaos in your ops, and scale ethically – straight from a project that turned potential disaster into growth. Perfect for accidental owners trapped in daily fires, applying #ADDAZERO precision.

Wed, 26 Nov 2025 - 27min - 143 - Episode 103 - The Blue Ocean Battle Plan
Are you sick of battling competitors for the same shrinking slice of customers with outdated tactics?
In this game-changing episode of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I reveal the "Blue Ocean Battle Plan" – a military-grade strategy to carve uncontested market space, drawn straight from my British Army experience where hesitation meant defeat.
Most UK SMEs waste years in "red oceans" of bloody price wars and copycat moves. Through My TrueNORTH's #ADDAZERO audits of 100,000+ businesses, I've seen the pattern: reactive owners hit revenue ceilings while agile leaders create blue oceans – demand without competition. This solo masterclass equips you to lead, not follow.
Battlefield lessons refined for 2025 SME realities:
Contact & Assess: Spot market gaps fast. Example: While rivals fought high street retail, blue ocean players built subscription e-commerce empires during lockdowns.
Contingency Blueprints: Pre-build 3 pivots per revenue stream. Brexit proved it – prepared firms gained 25% market share.
Positioning Dominance: Don't compete – redefine the game. #ADDAZERO clients shifted from "local plumber" to "smart home retrofit specialist," tripling margins.
Rapid Deployment: Systems ready at a moment's notice. Military OODA loop (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) compresses your response time to outpace rivals.
Real results: Client trapped at £900K in saturated fitness coaching created corporate wellness niches – £2.8M, 40% margins, no direct competition.
Escape reaction mode forever:
Creates Pricing Power: Uncontested space means premium pricing without pushback.
Attracts Ideal Clients: Pull strategy beats endless hunting – inbound leads convert 3x higher.
Future-Proof Growth: Adapt to AI, regulation, recessions while others scramble.
Maximises Exit Multiples: Buyers pay 4-7x for unique positions vs. commodity 1-2x.
Frees Your Time: Strategic leadership over ops grind – cycle those epic rides.
Perfect for accidental owners at £500K-£5M: stale offers, commoditised markets, growth stalls.
Run Blue Ocean Audit: Map competitors vs. your unique value canvas – 20 minutes.
Build 3 Contingencies: Revenue killers covered before they strike.
Redefine Your Battlefield: One positioning shift adds the first zero.
OODA Stress Test: Quarterly drills – agility score jumps 50%.

In Episode 96 of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I debunk why common delegation fails most owners – and reveal the #ADDAZERO systems that create self-running enterprises ready for scale or exit.
From auditing 100,000+ UK SMEs at My TrueNORTH, the truth hurts: 80% "delegate" wrong tasks to wrong people without structure, killing growth. Result? Owner-dependent traps where holidays halt progress and buyers walk away.
Owners fall into these pitfalls daily:
Wrong Tasks, Wrong People: £10 admin to £100K talent – mismatch destroys morale.
No Systems Backbone: Hand-offs without processes mean chaos returns to you.
Micromanaging Boomerang: Fear of failure creates control loops; teams disengage.
Easier DIY Trap: Short-term "fix" becomes long-term prison.
Real cost: Businesses unsellable at 1-2x multiples vs. systems-driven 4-7x. No buyer wants your brain as the profit engine.
Your presence shouldn't be the business's oxygen:
Fragile Operations: Decisions stall without you – revenue dips 40% on your absence.
Scalability Ceiling: £1M revenue stall; teams can't handle growth volume.
Exit Value Crash: Buyers demand turnkey; dependency = fire-sale scraps.
Legacy Lost: Burnout hits, team scatters, 20-year builds evaporate.
Client proof: £650K owner delegated reactively – stalled. Post-#ADDAZERO systems: £2.1M, 25 owner hours, clean handover ready.
Philosophical shift + practical blueprint:
Embed Accountability Structures: Clear org charts, escalation paths, KPIs.
Process First, People Second: Document before delegate – 90% failure drops to 10%.
Succession DNA: Train deputies today for tomorrow's freedom.
CEO Coaching Mode: Mentor, don't micromanage – loyalty jumps 50%.
Quarterly Audits: Measure dependency score; target <20% reliance.
Transform from founder extension to legacy organism thriving in adversity.
Audit Your Bottlenecks: List the top 10 "only you" tasks – systematise 7 this month.
Build Ops Manual: One Google Doc ends knowledge silos.
Test Absence: 2-week blackout – what breaks reveal fixes.

Wed, 01 Oct 2025 - 25min - 135 - Episode 95 - Five-Star Prison: Success That Traps You
Have you inadvertently built a thriving business with rave reviews and fat revenue – yet feel more trapped than ever?
In Episode 95 of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I expose the "Five-Star Prison" – where outward success hides owner dependency, stealing family time and freedom.
Through My TrueNORTH's audits of 100,000+ UK SMEs and my own multi-seven-figure exit after near-collapse, this wake-up reveals why accidental owners scale revenue but lose life. High-achievers work 70+ hours while teams wait for "your call."
Classic pattern hits £500K-£5M leaders:
Demand Explosion: Great at delivery = growth. Hire team, complexity skyrockets.
Central Bottleneck: Everything routes through you – decisions, clients, crises.
Five-Star Illusion: 5-star Google, £1M+ turnover, happy staff – but you're absent from kids' events, cycling rides, life.
My Story: Bought a micro-business in 2005, aggressive scale, Woolworths crash nearly killed it. Exited paying the emotional price.
Result: Business "succeeds" on paper, fails purpose. 70% owners are trapped on Freedom Audits.
Real toll beyond burnout:
Family Regret: Missed milestones despite wealth – irreversible.
Team Stagnation: Loyalty erodes while waiting for your input; turnover spikes 40%.
Exit Penalty: Buyers slash multiples for dependency – 1-2x vs. 5x systems-driven.
Scale Ceiling: Revenue plateaus; can't holiday without fires.
Client truth: £1.2M owner reclaimed 50% time, doubled profit post-audit.
Proven path to freedom:
Run Business Freedom Assessment: Free tool scores your prison level [MyTrueNORTH.club/bsu].
Dependency Mapping: List "only you" tasks – systematise 80% in 90 days.
Delegate with Structure: Org charts + processes end boomerangs.
CEO Evolution: Coach, don't do – team autonomy jumps.
Legacy Design: Build for absence; exit-ready from Day 1.
No owner chooses success over life. Reclaim both ethically.

The Accidental Owner Trap Exposed - Hidden Costs of Unmanaged Growth #ADDAZERO Escape Blueprint
Wed, 24 Sep 2025 - 16min - 134 - Episode 94 -Blowing Up My Business: The Reinvention Reset
Drifted from your business's true purpose into generic "sameness," fighting price wars while burnout looms?
In "Why I'm Blowing Up My Business (And Why You Might Need to Do the Same)," I expose how even successful SMEs like My TrueNORTH lose their edge – and the #ADDAZERO audit that forced my radical relaunch.
Celebrating 10 years with staff gratitude, I confronted the drift: specialist scale/exit mentorship morphed into mainstream coaching. Vulnerable to comparison shopping, we blended into the crowd. Brutal self-audit revealed: not applying our own methodology consistently.
Common drift kills differentiation:
Purpose Erosion: Relentless delivery dilutes the north star; becomes "just another provider."
Growth Victim: Wider appeal invites price competition, burnout cycles.
Subtle Signs: Innovation stalls, processes lag, overwhelm hits despite revenue.
My Wake-Up: 10-year milestone exposed MTN 1.0 flaws – archived top programs for focus.
Result: 70% SMEs hit ceilings here; conscientious leaders escape via niche reinvention.
Simple 12-week signature offer for accidental owners – brilliant operators trapped by their own teams:
Phase 1: Brutal Audit. Secret shopper your business; score purpose alignment.
Phase 2: CEO Transition. Hands-on to strategic leadership; reclaim freedom.
Phase 3: Ethical Scale. Add zeros with clarity, accountability, and legacy focus.

Business owners: Spot drift before irrelevance.
Coaches: Niche down, drop profitable noise.

High-performers don't rely on luck; they track and influence these levers for 26% average net profit jumps – some clients double in 7 months, 250% in 3 years.
Track these weekly for predictable growth:
Inbound Enquiries: Leads from forms, calls, emails – fuel the pipeline.
Conversion Rate: Enquiries to customers by channel – optimise winners.
Number of Customers: Total payers in period – scale acquisition.

Purchase Progression & Lifetime Value: Repeat spend trajectory – nurture loyalty.
Cost of Goods Sold (COGS): Delivery costs – squeeze margins ruthlessly.
Net Profit Margin: What's left after all – target 30%+ ethically.

The Seven Magical Numbers Elite Game vs. Random Hustle Deploy the Framework Now
Wed, 10 Sep 2025 - 17min - 132 - Episode 92: Ethics: The Deadly Cost of Half-Measures
Failing to prioritise ethics in favour of growth metrics risks everything – lives, legacies, empires.
In Episode 92 of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I expose why codes of conduct must be embedded from inception, using a real (anonymised) tragedy where unchecked training platforms killed a child via's fatal allergic reaction at a Costa Coffee-style client.
"LearnCo" dazzled with metrics and seamless reporting, but box-ticking without validation crumbled under scrutiny. Rapid scale amplified flaws catastrophically. My TrueNORTH leads ethically – negligence destroys reputations overnight.
70% SMEs face crises here; ethical #ADDAZERO clients build moats:
Day 1 Neglect: "Culture later" lets risks compound silently across hires, partners.
Metrics Over Standards: Vanity dashboards hide gaps; disasters expose reality brutally.
Supplier Blind Trust: Unverified claims boomerang legally, financially, and morally.
Scale Without Validation: Growth magnifies ethical holes – one failure tanks decades.
Client proof: Ethical ops survive recessions, regulations, scandals, others don't.
We practise what we preach :
Accountability Structures: Rigorous validation of every process, partner, claim – zero tolerance.
Culture DNA Integration: Hire for values first; retention soars 50%, loyalty unbreakable.
Reputational Premium: Buyers pay 3-5x multiples for integrity-proven enterprises.
Legacy Shockproofing: Ethical systems weather market storms, and leadership changes seamlessly.
UK leaders: Ethics isn't overhead – it's your unfair competitive advantage in trust-starved markets.
Ask yourself these military-precision questions:
Do you validate beyond surface metrics – real outcomes, not just checkboxes?
Are supplier ethics audited quarterly, or blind faith exposure?
Does your brand live its claims daily, or mission statement hypocrisy?
Deploy Immediately:
Code of Conduct Rollout: Document, train all hands, Day 1 – non-negotiable.
Quarterly Ethics Scorecard: Rate partners, processes 1-10; fix below 8.

Common Ethics Traps Conscientious Owners Dodge - My TrueNORTH's Award-Winning Ethical Fortress - Listener Challenge: Brutal Self-Audit
Wed, 03 Sep 2025 - 17min - 131 - Episode 91 - Failing Forward: Ride the Roller Coaster to Unbreakable Scale
Strapped into the business roller coaster – How one client who generates 64% of your revenue owns your business (you just don't know it yet)
In Episode 91 of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I reveal why elite owners embrace the ride's stomach-dropping failures as fuel for stratospheric climbs, drawing from British Army unbreakable standards and My TrueNORTH's #ADDAZERO audits of thousands trapped in vulnerability loops.
Ambitious £250K-£5M leaders thrill at ascent – revenue peaks, team cheers – but plummet when single-source cliffs hit, standards erode silently, blind spots multiply. Real client coaster: 64% dependency nosedive nearly derailed cash flow; diversified tracks smoothed to stable climbs. High-performers don't avoid drops – they engineer safer, faster rides.
Conscientious climbers dodge these physics-defying disasters:
Revenue Freefall (64% Dependency): Single client = sudden plunge. Physics lesson: Cap at net profit max or splatter.
Standards Erosion Loop: "Just this once" late payments = gradual track decay. Small vibrations become catastrophic derailments.
Blind Spot Black Holes: Loyal exits, supplier cheats, policy bends – invisible until mid-drop panic.
No Safety Harness (360 View): Internal cockpit blinds to passenger terror – client/supplier/recruit screams ignored.
Army truth: "The standard is the standard." Weak rails fail spectacularly under speed. My exits prove: engineered coasters command 4-7x premium tickets.
Transform terror drops into crowd-roaring ascents with this blueprint:
Launch Audit: Pre-ride safety check – quarterly banana skin scans preempt 80% crashes.
Track Diversification: Multiple rails; no revenue exceeds net profit – smooth through storms.
Safety Standards Lockdown: Non-negotiable engineering – document, train, enforce zero tolerance.
External Air Traffic Control: Coach/mentor spots wind shear insiders miss – 50% safer flights.
Passenger POV Dives: Role-play client/supplier/recruit – hidden upgrade opportunities thrill everyone.
Client coaster upgrade: £900K death drops to £2.8M victory laps, 95% retention, exit-ready smooth.
Even ace pilots miss these mid-flight horrors:
External navigation saves crashes ego can't see – Army medic precision: diagnose drops early, reinforce ruthlessly.
Immediate Track Repairs (Week 1):
Revenue audit: Map top 5 clients; build parallel tracks capping at net profit.
Standards rebuild: Codify 10 non-negotiables; full team safety briefing.
Blind spot radar: External review or peer flight test – fix top 3 vulnerabilities.
Ongoing Ride Mastery:
Monthly 360 passenger scans: Client NPS, supplier scorecards, recruit exhilaration ratings.
Failure debrief pits: Every drop → engineering lesson → track upgrade.
Free Freedom Assessment: Diagnose coaster flaws instantly [MyTrueNORTH.club/bsu].
Victory Metrics Dashboard:
Dependency velocity: Top client % (<20% target).
Standards integrity: 95%+ compliance rate.
Recovery g-forces: Halve setback response from panic dives to controlled glides.
Build coasters for legends – safe thrills, record heights, unbreakable engineering. Fail forward ethically; scale legends that outlive drops.

Blind to unbilled hours, underpriced clients, and ghosted leads bleeding your profits dry?
In Episode 90 of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I break down the exact VIP Day process, uncovering £225,000 in missed revenue for a non-client – real leaks, real math, real ethical fixes from My TrueNORTH's award-winning #ADDAZERO methodology that's transformed thousands of UK SMEs.
Chasing new logos while £250K sits unbilled or undercharged?
This owner was shocked – 40 logged consulting hours never invoiced (£45K gone),
legacy rates 25% below market (£60K annual drag),
200 warm leads abandoned post-demo (£120K lifetime value evaporated).
6-hour deep dive exposed everything; immediate action turned leaks into lakes without sleazy tactics.
High-growth owners ignore these daily drains – until audits hit:
Unbilled Deliverables: Completed jobs, logged time, zero invoice. £45K vanished into "goodwill" ether – recoverable with polite oversight emails (70% success rate).
Underpricing Trap: Charging 2015 rates in 2025 markets. Top clients billed 25-30% below value – £60K bleed fixed by dynamic pricing matrices tied to tenure/profitability.
Ghosted Follow-Ups: CRM graveyards of 200+ hot leads post-meeting. £120K lifetime value ignored – 7-touch nurture sequences doubled conversions ethically.
Scope Creep Charity: "Quick extras" gifted without line items. £25K annual write-offs – value contracts now capture every add-on.
Discount Decay: Auto-discounts for repeaters without premium upsells. £15K margin erosion – tiered value ladders reclaimed full price.
VIP Day math: £225K immediate recovery potential, plus £180K recurring from locked systems. No new customers required – reclaim what's already yours.
Step-by-step deployable tomorrow – no consultants needed initially:
Proven results: Clients average 26% net profit lift in Year 1, scaling ethically without burnout. £500K-£5M sweet spot – leaks scale with revenue if ignored.
Pre-audit shock: Owner chased £300K new business while £225K leaked internally. Cash flow cliffs, margin squeezes, and growth stalled despite demand.
Post-implementation glory: £225K reclaimed immediately, systems adding £180K predictably annually. Team trained on capture protocols – profit culture embedded. Business transformed from reactive firefighting to a proactive wealth engine.
My Army medic precision: Diagnose leaks surgically, cauterise permanently, monitor relentlessly. Ethical scale means no one-off wins – compounding systems.

The Profit Black Holes Sucking 80% of Businesses Dry - #ADDAZERO VIP Day Blueprint: 6-Hour Profit Unlock - Client Reality: Before VIP Day vs. Aftermath
Wed, 20 Aug 2025 - 21min - 129 - Episode 89 - What Got You Here Won’t Get You There: Unlocking the Next Level in Business
From being made redundant, to running a multi-6-figure business, and still not seeing he was on the edge of a cliff!
In Episode 89 of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I unpack Alex's raw journey from post-layoff hustle to five-figure contracts, revealing why "what got you here" becomes the invisible ceiling trapping 80% of UK SME owners in operator hell.
Alex doubled output through pure grit, but time vanished, growth stalled, family suffered, exit dreams faded to fire-sale fears. The trap? Brilliance built revenue, but owner-dependency killed freedom. This episode spotlights the exact pivot point where accidental owners must diagnose their reality – no generic fixes, just brutal self-awareness.
Alex's story mirrors thousands audited at My TrueNORTH – the progression every £250K-£3M leader faces:
Started lean post-redundancy: Solo delivery excellence won initial contracts. Revenue climbed steadily through relentless execution – pride and momentum built.
Growth inflexion: First team hires doubled output, five-figure pursuits emerged. Celebration masked the shift – owner hours exploded to 70/week, managing complexity.
Scale stall exposed: Decisions bottlenecked through Alex alone. The client wins demands for delegation, but Alex resisted. Burnout loomed, margins squeezed, team waited endlessly.
Exit mirage crystallised: Business "valuable" on paper remained unsellable. Buyers recoiled from owner-dependency, slashing multiples from a potential 5x to a desperate 1.5x fire sale.
Classic accidental owner reality: Early hustle creates a revenue cage. 70% never escape without an honest diagnosis of their specific traps.
Grit-fueled foundation; awareness unlocks scale. The episode exposes these progressions without prescribing:
Operator Overload: Doing replaces leading – revenue plateaus despite exhaustion, team disengages, waiting for "your call."
Delegation Paralysis: "They won't match my standards" chains you to tools while opportunities compound elsewhere.
Investment Myopia: Profits reinvested reactively into survival, not strategic seats exposing growth ceilings.
Exit Blindness: No buyer lens from Day 1 means scramble when freedom calls – legacy dreams evaporate.
Alex hit every marker: £750K revenue peak masked the stall. Freedom Assessment would have scored him 32/100 trapped, revealing the exact dependencies choking scale.
Episode challenges listeners to confront their reality – no solutions, just mirrors:
Are you still the linchpin for 60%+ of revenue-generating decisions?Does your team grind waiting for your input, or run autonomously?Have five-figure pursuits stalled due to a capacity you can't delegate? Is your exit valuation growing or trapped by owner-dependency discount?Alex faced these brutally post-stall. His awakening: Diagnosis before prescription. £250K-£3M accidental leaders grinding 60+ hours despite revenue growth. Redundant grit got you thriving; strategic awareness scales ethically. No fluff motivation – raw progression patterns from frontline coaching.

In Episode 87 of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast, I challenge conscientious owners to confront exit planning – not as a retirement buzzword, but Day 1 survival strategy protecting teams, legacies, and investments from sudden collapse.

In Episode 85 of The Accidental Business Owner Podcast (Capacity Compass series), I reveal the Five Levels of Leadership drawn from 12 years British Armed Forces – exposing why most £1M+ owners stall at Production, never reaching Pinnacle where businesses scale without them.
High-revenue leaders grind results alone; elite develop people, creating self-sustaining impact. Episode spotlights the progression every conscientious owner must diagnose: Where do you lead strongest? Weakest? What level traps your scale?
Title grants power; teams comply minimally. First hires follow orders, disengage fast.

People stay for rapport, not rules. Basic loyalty emerges; performance inconsistent.

Deliver results; respect earned through wins. Revenue climbs, but scalability caps.
Most 7-figure leaders peak here – grind personally for numbers. Diagnosis shows: Production strengths masking development voids?

Wed, 16 Jul 2025 - 20min - 118 - Episode 84: Recruit, Retain, Reward Superheroes – Mastering the Art of Building a World-Class Team for Sustainable Business Growth
Are you a business owner striving to build a remarkable team that pushes your business to new heights?
Welcome to Episode 84 of the #Add A Zero Podcast by My TrueNORTH – the UK’s premier ethical business consultancy.
In this game-changing episode, hosts Jay Allen and the MC dive deep into one of the most pressing issues faced by modern entrepreneurs: how to recruit, retain, and reward your team of “superheroes” to ensure sustainable business success.
Why Listen to Episode 84?
In a job market overflowing with opportunities — and just as many challenges — finding and keeping the right people is the magic ingredient for scaling any business. The practical strategies, hard-earned insights, and ethical principles discussed in this episode are designed for business leaders who want to:
Elevate their recruitment game beyond traditional methods
Retain talented team members who don’t just see your business as a stepping stone
Reward and inspire staff for long-term loyalty and exponential impact
Whether you are preparing to hire your first employee, building a brand-new department, or expanding rapidly towards seven figures, the timeless advice in this episode is for you.
🔥 Key Topics Covered in This Episode:
I lay out the eighth element of the #AddAZERO methodology: “Recruit, Retain, Reward Superheroes.” Highlighting a critical mistake that business owners make — only advertising for roles when there’s an immediate vacancy. I advocate for a proactive, continuous approach to recruitment. By consistently putting out feelers into the market, you prime your business to capitalize on superstar talent as soon as it becomes available.
Listen, as I challenge conventional thinking by reframing hiring as an investment, not a financial risk. I share how, especially for sales and revenue-generating roles, every new hire should be covering at least 2x their salary by the end of their probation.
This breakthrough mindset helps business owners stop thinking of wages as a “cost” and start seeing them as the fuel for exponential growth.
Forget bland, run-of-the-mill interviews. I detail how to stand out to top candidates by designing a unique interview process. This includes focusing more on your company’s vision, values, and the type of culture you’re building — not just the job description.
Listeners learn how to sell the opportunity, not just the paycheck, and attract those looking for more than a 9-5.
I'll also share my five-step superhero recruitment framework and discuss the importance of an impactful first 100 days, from pairing new hires with “buddies” to setting clear expectations for success. It’s all about setting people up to shine.
Industry data and Jay’s lived experience reveal a fact every entrepreneur should know: salary is rarely the reason employees stay. Instead, purpose, vision, values, and opportunities for personal growth are the true magnets for loyalty.
In this episode, listeners discover 11 actionable strategies to become a “superboss,” building an environment that people never want to leave.

Mon, 30 Jun 2025 - 00min - 112 - Episode 82 - Protect Your Business From Growing Broke: Essential Cash Flow Strategies for Scaling Six-Figure Businesses
In this episode, host Jay Allen from My True North dives deep into one of the biggest hurdles for businesses hovering in the six-figure range: managing money and cash flow as you push toward that elusive seven-figure milestone.
Jay unpacks the hidden dangers of “growing broke” versus simply “going broke,” revealing how rapid expansion can put your business at risk if cash flow isn’t managed with foresight and discipline. Drawing on years of research and real-life cautionary tales, including his own personal business setbacks, Jay breaks down practical strategies for building cash reserves, forecasting cash flow, and negotiating payment terms—especially when dealing with large corporate clients.
This episode is packed with actionable advice to help you avoid the most common financial pitfalls and confidently scale your business to new heights. If you’re ready to take control of your company’s financial health and ensure it thrives through every stage of growth, you won’t want to miss this conversation.
3 Key Takeaways for Growth-Minded Business Owners:
Distinguish "Going Broke" vs. "Growing Broke": It’s not only a lack of money that kills businesses, but sometimes, fast growth with poor cashflow planning. Scaling too quickly without reserves can be just as dangerous as not making enough sales.
Cashflow Forecasting is Critical: Don’t just rely on historical data or your profit and loss statement. Proactively manage when money is due in and out with comprehensive cashflow forecasting. It’s a game-changer for making confident business decisions.
Negotiate Better Payment Terms: If long payment cycles are standard in your industry, don’t just accept the risk. Renegotiate terms, consider offering early payment discounts, or align with initiatives like the Fair Pay to Small Business scheme. It’s YOUR business—set terms that protect your growth.
If you haven’t yet, think about embedding a cashflow forecast into your business toolkit—Jay shares a ready-made calculator and actionable advice in this episode.

Mon, 23 Jun 2025 - 00min - 109 - Episode 81: How Swift Tree Services Transformed with Coaching: Swift Tree Services' Success Story with Add A Zero
In episode 81 of the #Add A Zero Podcast, I had the pleasure of sitting down with two insightful guests, Adam Lawson and Steven, co-directors of Swift Tree Services. Over the course of the episode, they shared transformative experiences propelled by the Add A Zero Basecamp program that have profoundly impacted their business.
Their story begins with an all-too-familiar scenario for many entrepreneurs: a thriving business operating at full throttle, but with a catch—they were on the brink of burnout, caught in a cycle of saying yes to everyone and struggling to keep up. Like many business owners, they faced the dilemma of whether to continue down this exhausting path or to make a conscious pivot in their approach.
Enter the concept they adopted, which I like to call "Structured Growth." It’s not just about addressing the immediate challenges but designing a strategy that focuses on key areas critical for sustainable growth. Adam and Steven highlighted how their initial engagement involved completing a detailed 35-question survey that exposed significant knowledge gaps and opportunities for improvement, particularly in financial management and operational structure.
Just like an athlete analysing and refining their technique, Adam and Steven committed to a systematic review of their business processes. The structured approach taken through the Add A Zero methodology—emphasising clear cash flow forecasts and credit control—became their new practice plan, akin to a musician refining scales or a sportsperson mastering basic drills before advancing to complex moves.
The importance of this new methodology was not just the clarity it brought, but the empowerment to shift from reactive firefighting to proactive structuring. Within just three months, their approach saw tangible results: improved profits, a healthier cash flow, and better team morale, as the strain on their staff decreased and their future with the company seemed more assured.
Why is Structured Growth significant? Because it’s about calculated, measurable steps that prioritise the wellbeing of both leadership and team, creating an environment where motivation thrives. It’s about moving beyond day-to-day survival to strategised advancement, ensuring that the path to success is sustainable and impactful.
For Adam and Steven, the resonance of Structured Growth continues to ripple through their team. As they looked forward to the next 3-5 years, the roadmap provided by the Add A Zero methodology paved the way for balanced growth, more informed decision-making, and the freedom to shape their entrepreneurial journey on their terms.
Their experience exemplifies how changing the practice to focus on structure and calculated decisions can transform the trajectory of a business, much like how an athlete fine-tunes their training regimen to leap further, run faster, or play better.
So, for all those business owners out there who feel like they are at a crossroads, teetering on the edge of exhaustion, consider this approach. Take the leap into Structured Growth and see how it can not only add a zero to your revenue but also to the satisfaction, impact, and sustainability of your business. Get in touch, and let’s shape the future of business success together.

Over the course of the episode, they shared transformative experiences propelled by the Add A Zero Basecamp program that have profoundly impacted their business.Their story begins with an all-too-familiar scenario for many entrepreneurs: a thriving business operating at full throttle, but with a catch—they were on the brink of burnout, caught in a cycle of saying yes to everyone and struggling to keep up. Like many business owners, they faced the dilemma of whether to continue down this exhausting path or to make a conscious pivot in their approach.Enter the concept they adopted which I like to call "Structured Growth." It’s not just about addressing the immediate challenges but designing a strategy that focuses on key areas critical for sustainable growth. Adam and Steven highlighted how their initial engagement involved completing a detailed 35-question survey that exposed significant knowledge gaps and opportunities for improvement, particularly in financial management and operational structure.Just like an athlete analyzing and refining their technique, Adam and Steven committed to a systematic review of their business processes. The structured approach taken through the Add A Zero methodology—emphasizing clear cash flow forecasts and credit control—became their new practice plan, akin to a musician refining scales or a sportsperson mastering basic drills before advancing to complex moves. Because it’s about calculated, measurable steps that prioritize the wellbeing of both leadership and team, creating an environment where motivation thrives. It’s about moving beyond day-to-day survival to strategized advancement, ensuring that the path to success is sustainable and impactful. For Adam and Steven, the resonance of Structured Growth continues to ripple through their team. As they looked forward to the next 3-5 years, the roadmap provided by the Add A Zero methodology paved the way for balanced growth, more informed decision-making, and the freedom to shape their entrepreneurial journey on their terms.Their experience exemplifies how changing the practice to focus on structure and calculated decisions can transform the trajectory of a business, much like how an athlete fine-tunes their training regimen to leap further, run faster, or play better. So, for all those business owners out there who feel like they are at a crossroads, teetering on the edge of exhaustion, consider this approach. Take the leap into Structured Growth and see how it can not only add a zero to your revenue but also to the satisfaction, impact, and sustainability of your business. Try it out, and let’s shape the future of business success together.#BusinessGrowth, #SustainableGrowth, #CoachingImpact, #LeadershipChallenge, #SwiftTreeServices, #ADAZero, #BasecampProgram, #CashFlowForecasting, #CreditControl, #TeamDevelopment, #ClientPerspective, #BusinessTurnaround, #EntrepreneurialJourney, #DirectorExperience, #OperationalEfficiency

Mon, 16 Jun 2025 - 02min - 106 - Episode 80: The Cost-Plus Conundrum: Finding a Better Pricing Solution for SMEs
In this weeks video we're diving deep into one of the most pressing challenges faced by SME businesses in the UK: pricing strategy.
Over the last couple of weeks, we've explored other fundamental issues like marketing and sales processes. Now, imagine your marketing efforts have hit the bullseye and your sales strategy is on point. You're selling, but how confident are you in your pricing model?
Many businesses fall into the trap of using a simple cost plus markup or pegging their prices somewhere between market averages, both of which often underestimate the true costs and potential profit margins.
Join me as we uncover the hidden factors in these pricing models and introduce effective strategies to maximise your profits.
Plus, hear real-life success stories, like a client who transformed their single-figure profit margins into substantial gains by re-evaluating their pricing strategy.
What is the cost-plus pricing model, and how does it function? The cost-plus pricing model is a straightforward method used by many businesses for setting prices. It begins with calculating the total cost of producing a product or delivering a service, including all expenses such as materials, labour, and overhead.
Once the total cost is established, a markup percentage is added on top to ensure profit. For example, if a product costs £100 to produce and the business wants a 20% profit margin, the price would be set at £120.Despite its simplicity, the cost-plus model is not without its pitfalls.
As I discuss in the Add A Zero Podcast, many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) gravitate towards this model without fully understanding their fixed and variable costs, leading to misinformed pricing strategies. Fixed costs include regular expenses like rent and utilities, necessary for keeping the business operational, irrespective of sales volume. Variable costs fluctuate depending on the level of production or service provision, such as raw material costs or hourly wages.
Understanding these cost components is crucial. Companies often fall into the trap of either underpricing or overpricing, both of which can be detrimental. Underpricing may erode profit margins, while overpricing can reduce competitive edge. The significance of a robust pricing strategy cannot be overstated; it supports sustainable business growth, improving both the top and bottom lines. By knowing their numbers and strategically packaging and promoting their offerings, businesses can optimise their pricing strategies, ensuring profitability and long-term success.
The key takeaway?
Know your fixed and variable costs inside out, then tailor your pricing strategy to improve profit margins. It’s all about adding a zero to your bottom line. If you're ready to transform your pricing game, this episode is a must-listen!

Mon, 09 Jun 2025 - 02min - 103 - Episode 79: Mastering Sales: The Four-Step Process Every SME Should Know
In this weeks video we talk about one of the intriguing concepts mentioned in the latest episode of the #Add A Zero Podcast is the idea of "sales as a service" and the dynamics of the buyer-seller dance. This concept revolves around a more holistic and service-oriented approach to sales, rather than simply focusing on closing the deal or boosting commission.
Sales as a service challenges the traditional view that the ultimate goal of sales is merely cash in the bank. Instead, it places emphasis on how a salesperson can be of genuine service to a potential buyer. This involves a strategy where you don't rush the process, but instead, nurture it by understanding the customer's needs, challenges, and the right steps to move them towards a successful purchase decision.
Imagine you walk into a store and a salesperson approaches you immediately with, "How can I help you today?" Your instinctive response might be, "Thanks, I'm just looking." This reflexive reaction is part of the intricacies of the buyer-seller dance, a subconscious "not yet" that many of us default to, simply because we need time to adjust to a new environment and maintain a sense of control over the decision-making process.
Sales as a service recognizes these buyer defenses and suggests slowing down the sales process to improve the overall conversion rate. By allowing a potential customer to move at their own pace, and by providing valuable assistance and information at each stage, you enhance their buying experience and build a foundation of trust.
There are four key stages to this sales process. Firstly, there's education, where the salesperson informs the buyer about potential needs or challenges they may not even be aware of. The second step involves questioning and qualifying, ensuring that both parties understand the problem accurately and are equipped to find the best solution. The third stage is concerned with budgeting and timing, determining whether the buyer is ready and able to proceed with a purchase. Finally, a considerate and timely approach to closing the sale ensures that both seller and buyer end up satisfied with the outcome.
This method aligns with the notion that as a business owner or sales professional, you're also a customer in other aspects of your life. Those previous experiences as a buyer inform your selling habits, sometimes detrimentally. Putting an emphasis on the aim of improving a customer's condition through service means parking those biases, learning from past purchase experiences, and focusing on the customer's journey.
Ultimately, when practiced effectively, sales as a service leads to a more authentic, trust-based relationship between buyer and seller, where both parties feel they have gained value from the exchange. This approach not only improves conversion rates but leads to more meaningful, lasting business relationships. Just like the #Add A Zero Podcast illustrates, by understanding the complexities of the buyer-seller dance and adopting a service mindset, you can turn every sales opportunity into an enriching interaction.
An aligned sales cycle doesn't just boost your conversion rates, but it also means you've made a real difference for your customer. Stay tuned for next week where we'll tackle pricing for profit to ensure you're always on the path of sustainable growth.

Mon, 02 Jun 2025 - 01min - 100 - Episode 78: Dispelling Marketing Myths: Measuring Success Beyond Cash Returns
In this weeks video I had a fascinating conversation with a client during one of our My True North business consultancy sessions. This particular client owned a healthy snack company and was struggling with improving their marketing effectiveness. Now, the client was running advertisements and pushing out content but wasn't seeing the engagement or sales conversions they had hoped for. This resonated with me as it tied back to a fundamental aspect of our Add A Zero podcast that we focus on: understanding what metrics truly matter for your business.
During our consultation, we delved into the intricacies of their marketing strategy. I introduced them to a concept I like to call "Metric Shift Awareness." Often, as business owners, we get caught up in measuring success by revenue alone. However, as discussed in episode 78 of the podcast, marketing's effectiveness isn't just about pounds and pence. The real metric is engagement—how well are we connecting with the right type of client?
With this new perspective, the client began to accurately measure the impact of their campaigns by tracking the number of inquiries, the types of inquiries, and online engagement rather than just immediate sales. The client realized their efforts were reaching a wider audience, sparking more inquiries, and, over time, translating into sales. It's akin to planting seeds and nurturing them to grow into a flourishing garden.
This approach clearly highlighted the importance of patience and proper analysis in marketing, emphasizing that true success isn't immediate but cultivated over time through consistent and engaging interaction with your audience. So, we dubbed this shift in focus "Engagement Cultivation." By focusing on cultivating authentic relationships through meaningful engagement, the client was able to see a significant uptick in their long-term customer base and brand loyalty.
To sum it up, if you're looking to grow your business effectively, embrace Engagement Cultivation. Look beyond immediate revenue and start focusing on how well you're connecting with your audience. Remember, marketing's true job is to make the phone ring or prompt an inquiry. Apply this methodology, and let me know the difference it makes in your business journey.
Forget measuring marketing success by cash alone. It's all about attracting the right customers by tuning into crucial metrics, creating engagement, and making those phones ring. Remember, marketing's role is to set the stage for sales by building relationships and sparking meaningful conversations.
Here's what you can learn:
👉 Measure the Right Metrics: Marketing is not about instant cash returns. Instead, focus on engagement metrics. How many inquiries are you getting? Is your phone ringing? These are the real indicators of successful marketing.
👉 Know Your Audience: To communicate effectively, it's essential to understand your target client. What do they need to hear or see from you? Tailoring your message to resonate with them can make all the difference.
👉 Marketing is Storytelling: Beyond features and benefits, your marketing should be about creating an emotional connection. Inform, educate, and engage your audience through "edutainment" to build trust and awareness.
Jay’s insights are all about helping you craft a marketing strategy that attracts your ideal clients and fuels sustainable growth 📈.

Mon, 26 May 2025 - 01min - 97 - Episode 77: Navigating Change: Are You Ready to Quit?
Are you ready to quit your business?
in this weeks video I'm asking if you've thought about your exit strategy. No one likes surprises, especially in business. What if life throws a curveball? Do you have a plan B? Most business owners don't. In today’s session, I challenged you to start thinking about what your legacy looks like. Let’s turn hope into a plan. Ready to create a strategy that ensures your business lasts—and thrives—beyond you? Let’s chat and make your legacy a living one.
Here are 3 key takeaways:
Anticipate the What-Ifs: Jay walks us through various scenarios that can unexpectedly impact our businesses. From personal health issues to unforeseen legislation changes, it’s crucial to have a Plan B in place. Being prepared means you can pivot without panic.
Define Your End Goal: Whether it’s selling your business, passing it on, or winding it down, having a clear understanding of what you want to achieve is essential. Success isn't just about growing your business; it’s about leaving a lasting legacy as well.
Start Planning Today: According to Jay, the best time to prepare your exit strategy is the day you launch your business. Don’t be part of the 95% of businesses that don’t sell successfully. Plan ahead to live your legacy instead of just hoping to leave one.
If this strikes a chord with you or sparks a question, it might be time to look at your own business plans and see where you stand. Let's make sure we're not only building businesses but also preparing them to thrive in the future. 💼
While it might seem counterintuitive for a business scale coach to talk about quitting, Jay emphasizes the importance of having a solid plan for when you decide to leave your business. Drawing from real-life scenarios where unexpected changes forced business shifts, Jay invites listeners to think about potential "what if" situations and score themselves on their preparedness. From sudden illness to legislative changes or family expectations not aligning with succession plans, it's vital to have a backup plan in place. Jay shares eye-opening statistics and insights, urging business owners to plan their legacy and avoid being part of the 87% without a follow-up plan. Join the conversation and start crafting your future today.

Mon, 12 May 2025 - 00min - 91 - Episode 75: Drawing Inspiration from Disney: Transform Your Business Culture
In this episode, we're diving into the secrets of crafting a cohesive team that's driven to succeed. We explore lessons from the British Armed Forces about building trust and camaraderie, and translate those into business insights. Discover how creating a set of unifying values and behaviors can elevate your team, making them thrive beyond just monetary rewards.
What are Attitudes and Behaviors in a workplace and how do they unite a team? Attitudes and behaviors in a workplace are standardized expectations that an organization uses to align its team members toward a unified goal. Much like a mission statement, these expectations create a cohesive environment but focus on individual actions and interactions rather than broad objectives.
Consider Disney, which implements this concept robustly. Rather than confining employees to a rigid job description, Disney advocates for a shift towards a shared set of attitudes and behaviors. This ensures every employee, from entry-level to management, aligns with a defined way of conducting themselves, overarching the entire brand. This alignment fosters a work culture where teamwork thrives, as every colleague operates with the same understanding of what's expected.
Why does this matter? Having a clear, consistent framework of attitudes and behaviors transforms how an organization functions. It builds trust, supports collaboration, and encourages individuals to exceed the boundaries of conventional roles, thereby fortifying the team’s ability to achieve common objectives. By setting these parameters, businesses create an environment where each member is inspired to focus less on rigid duties and more on the collective success of the organization, leading to sustainable business growth and enhanced morale among team members.

Mon, 05 May 2025 - 00min - 88 - Episode 74 - The Right Time to Quit For Enhancing Business Growth
Have you ever wondered, "When is it time to quit?" Join me, Jay Allen, in the latest #ADDAZERO Podcast episode. We dive into when pursuing your passion project needs a reality check and how to know if you're in a niche too tiny to scale. Let's assess your business goals, understand the market size, and determine if it's time to review, revise, and progress. Get ready to unlock sustainable growth and learn when shedding the old is key to embracing the new!
Here are three key takeaways:
Market Size Matters: Assess the size of your industry and determine whether your niche is big enough to achieve your desired impact. Sometimes it helps to recognize if your passion project is simply that—a project, not a scalable business.
Identify the Bottleneck: Understand where your business might hit a plateau. If substantial investment or other resources are required to grow beyond a certain point, it's crucial to re-evaluate your strategy.
Embrace Change: To reach the next level, you may need to let go of current practices. Learning to quit the methods that no longer serve you allows for new approaches that align with your growth trajectory.

Mon, 28 Apr 2025 - 00min - 85 - Episode 73 - Understanding Conscientious Business Leadership and Connecting with Your Ideal Target Audience
In this episode we're talking about our ideal target audience, the conscientious business owner. Well, what does that actually mean? Surely all business owners are conscientious or they perhaps ought to be. Well, to get into that, perhaps we need to understand the importance of why it is that we share that with you as a watcher, listener on the podcast. So many people, when it comes to marketing, get their marketing particularly wrong. They'll start talking about their audience and then when I ask them about the audience of who it is that their target audience, who it is that they're selling to, they'll tell me, well, anyone who, in all of my experience, having spoken in countries across the world, 34 countries and counting, to about 400,000 other business owners, I've met some really interesting people from all over the globe with some quite interesting names. Met two people called Jesus. I've met a guy called PI, I've met various people called Goliath and Spiros. I've never met anybody called anybody. And yet the moment that you say anyone who nobody springs to mind, I can't think of a single person who might want what it is that you're selling when you use the phrase anyone who lost you straight away.
Here are 3 key takeaways:
Identify Your Ideal Audience: Instead of targeting "anyone who," have a defined key audience. This helps craft messages that resonate and drive growth.
Lead With Purpose: Business isn't just about profit. Embrace the B Corp movement and values like corporate social responsibility and Environmental Social Governance (ESG) to create meaningful change.
Build a Legacy: Focus on growing a business that leaves a lasting impact. Invest in people, create careers, and challenge the status quo to contribute positively to the community.
What does it mean to be a conscientious business leader? Jay breaks it down for us:
Beyond Profit: These leaders are not merely focused on profit margins. They measure success by their positive impact on the community, the environment, and the broader world. It's about doing business for good.
Corporate Social Responsibility: Many adopt practices akin to the B Corp movement or ESG agendas, ensuring their business decisions reflect ethical and sustainable choices. It’s not just about profits; it’s about creating a legacy of good.
Building Legacies, Not Just Businesses: They focus on shaping their industry and challenging the status quo, aiming to leave their field, community, and the world better than they found it.
Internal Growth: These leaders see their team as more than employees; they are valued as individuals with personal aspirations and supported to grow along with the business.
We believe in the power of community and collective growth. If you resonate with this mindset and are eager to contribute to positive change, we invite you to join our growing community of like-minded business leaders. Consider this your call to action—become part of a movement that prioritizes ethical growth and societal impact.

Wed, 02 Apr 2025 - 47min - 75 - Ep 69: The Business Growth Seesaw: Balancing Personal Development and Business Evolution
The Seesaw of Growth: Balancing Act or Tug of War?
Growth within a business context often feels like a seesaw, where different aspects of development demand attention at different times.
In my experience, a significant portion of business owners focus heavily on either personal learning or business execution, often at the expense of the other. Around 40-45% of entrepreneurs are avid learners, constantly engaging in training and courses, yet they struggle to implement these learnings effectively within their businesses. Their focus is skewed towards personal growth, leaving their businesses lagging behind.
Conversely, another 40-45% prioritize business tasks over personal development. They are entrenched in the operational demands of their companies, often missing out on growth opportunities due to a lack of external learning and development. But, it is essential to sustainable growth that we find a balance—neither focusing solely on personal accolades nor getting lost in the day-to-day running of the business.
The Perfect Equilibrium
There is a small, yet significant portion of business owners, about 10%, who manage to achieve a balance. These individuals consciously blend learning and application, ensuring both personal growth and business advancement occur simultaneously. They strategically choose what to learn and focus on implementing these insights for maximum impact. This balanced approach not only addresses current challenges but also prepares the business for future opportunities.
New Level New Devil
As businesses evolve, new challenges—"new devils" at each "new level"—emerge, highlighting the need for continuous adaptation. From startups struggling to break the initial revenue thresholds to more established businesses facing operational and scaling challenges, every tier of growth brings its own set of complexities. Understanding these phases and preparing for each transition is crucial for sustained success.
**From Startup to Scaling: A Journey of Complexity**
From making the first few thousand pounds to expanding into multi-seven-figure revenues and beyond. Each phase is characterized by its unique hurdles, whether it's managing resources, hiring staff, or upgrading systems. Business owners must become adept change management agents, continually learning and evolving to tackle these challenges efficiently.
Learning and Action Go Hand in Hand
The key takeaway from this episode is the necessity of bridging the gap between learning and implementation.
The balance between personal development and business execution is crucial for any business aiming for sustainable growth.
I challenge you to reflect on where you fit within the described categories and urge you to help grow that 10% margin by applying the #ADDAZERO Methodology and becoming the scale up you deserve to be.

Wed, 26 Mar 2025 - 19min - 74 - Ep 68: Unpacking Time Management Myths to Enhance Everyday Effectiveness
Time Management and Work-Life Balance Are Misleading Concepts - Here's How to Navigate Toward True Productivity and Fulfillment
I've often heard that time management and work-life balance are essential keys to success. However, in Episode 16 of the #ADDAZERO Podcast, where I delved into the theme of "Procrastinating Your Way to Success," I offered a thought-provoking perspective on how procrastination, when understood differently, could actually drive success. Let me share with you how I perceive this transformation in productivity.
Debunking the Time Management Myth
I've come to realize that time management is more about time appreciation. We all share the same 24 hours in a day, and it's impossible to "manage time" itself. What I can do, however, is manage my movement through time.
The trick is distinguishing between cyclical time, which I see on a clock, and emotional time—the perceived speed or slowness of time based on how I feel about a task. When I do something I enjoy, time flies. But when I'm burdened by tasks I dislike, time seems to crawl. My solution has been to identify and prioritize activities that bring me joy and fulfillment while delegating or eliminating others.
Work-Life Balance: A Misleading Pursuit
Next, I tackled the myth of work-life balance. Rather than striving for a perfect equilibrium between work and personal life, I've acknowledged this notion as a constant fluctuation rather than a destination. Trying to maintain a perfect balance can consume more energy than it's worth. Recognizing the demands of different roles—whether as a business owner, partner, or parent—I've understood that some level of compromise is inevitable.
Instead of balancing, I've sought to determine what allows me to recharge and be at my best across all roles. It might involve embracing activities or practices that energize me, much like my personal experience with swimming, which I found crucial to maintaining my productivity and overall well-being.
Recognizing My Zone of Genius
A pivotal takeaway is identifying where your strengths—your "zone of genius"—lies within the business. By focusing on tasks that you excel at and derive pleasure from, you can significantly contribute to the success of the business. The challenge is to delegate or eliminate tasks that drain, to allow more bandwidth to devote to your unique strengths.
Understanding the diverse skill sets within my team allows me to allocate tasks effectively, aligning responsibilities with personal aptitudes. This strategic approach ensures my entire team works optimally, moving collectively towards business goals with efficiency and passion.
Transforming Procrastination into Purpose
I've redefined procrastination not as a lack of activity, but as failing to tackle high-priority tasks, often masked by busyness. To combat this, it's essential for me to clarify my end goals and ensure my daily activities align with them.
By abstaining from BUSYness and focusing on what’s truly necessary for progress, you can liberated yourself from the constraint of being perpetually occupied without advancement. This shift allows you to adopt a role more akin to a 'servant leader,' freeing up time for strategic thinking and guiding your team to success.
Actionable Steps to Break Free from Old Habits
In a true "Blue Ocean strategy" fashion, I leave you with pivotal questions to craft a new path:
Stop Doing: Identify tasks to cease or delegate to free up time.
Start Doing: Recognize activities that fuel my enthusiasm and further engage in them.
Do Differently: Transition from 'doing' to supporting others in their contributions.
Avoid Regression: Establish accountability mechanisms to maintain forward momentum.
In closing, I challenge the conventional beliefs around productivity, urging you to prioritize wisely and embrace procrastination as a force for purposeful reflection and action.

Change is the only constant in business—are you keeping up?
Too many business owners get comfortable doing “more of the same,” assuming what worked yesterday will work tomorrow. But in reality, staying relevant means embracing change.

In this episode of the AddAZero Podcast, I dive into a common but dangerous trap that many business owners fall into—comparing their journey to someone else’s.

In this episode of the Add A Zero Podcast, I dive into a question that every business owner needs to answer: Are you building a lifestyle business or a business that’s fit to scale?
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with business owners at every stage—from start-ups landing their first client to CEOs of multi-industry global companies. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that success means something different to everyone. But here’s the problem: too many entrepreneurs chase someone else’s definition of success without ever stopping to ask, “What does success actually mean to me?”
In this episode, I’ll challenge the idea that success is just about hitting revenue goals. We’ll talk about why numbers alone can’t define your business’s true impact, and more importantly, why your business should be able to thrive without being dependent on you every single day.
