He went to an Adventist school and attended church regularly. He embraced and enjoyed all the opportunities he had to grow spiritually in his home life, church and school. But there came a pivotal point in his early teen years - when young people face so many changes and challenges - that he had to make a choice. What would he do with his life? Would he stay with the faith he was raised in or would he try something else? Was it worth laying aside his Christian way of life for a few years or not? If he was to stay with the faith he was raised in, how was he going to make this faith his own and not just what his parents believe and practice? Jaiden wrestled with these questions for many months until one memorable day when he made his decision. Which path did he choose? Rod grew up in inland Queensland and was the eldest of six children. With a family environment that was devoutly Catholic, Rod grew up with an awareness of God in his life which he deeply appreciated. He loved God and religious studies was his favourite subject in school. He had a strong sense of loyalty to his religion. As a young adult, he started dating a girl who was a Seventh-day Adventist. This was nice but also challenging since he thought that if he was to marry her, she would have to become Catholic. This was important for his religious convictions and family honour. He told her this and she said that if he could show her through the Bible that his religion was completely harmonious with the truth, she would become Catholic. This experience sparked a journey of discovery for Rod as he studied the Bible to find answers to his questions. He learned many things that really shook his religious worldview. It was a very unsettling time as he learned that what the Bible really teaches didn't line up with everything he thought was true. He became convinced that the biblical understandings of Seventh-day Adventists were truly consistent with the Bible and God confirmed this to him in compelling ways. Despite agreeing with the biblical teachings of the Seventh-day church, Rod didn't immediately join the faith. Something distracted his focus and led him away from the church for many years. God didn't give up on Rod though and led him through a journey of unexpected experiences and providences. Scott grew up in Bundaberg, the coastal Queensland town renown for its ginger beer, which is an Australian favourite. His upbringing was typical for secular Australians until one day when his mother and father became Christians. They changed so much that he thought they had gone crazy.   He learned about God through his parents' conversion and had some wonderful experiences with lovely Christians at church, but he was also doing things that were out of harmony with his parents' new faith. Soon his mother told him he would need to change his behaviour if he was to stay at home. Instead of doing this, he chose to leave. He was 14 years old and went to live with a friend.    For the next 10 years or so, his was a journey of drug-dealing, dodging the police and going in and out of prison. God continued to reach out to him during this time as family and friends prayed for him. One day while in prison, he picked up a book that changed his life. Jeramie was born to Seventh-day Adventist parents in the Philippines. From the day she was born her parents prayed that she would be a singing missionary for Jesus. Her parents could sing and they taught her to sing from a very young age. God honoured their prayers and blessed Jeramie with a beautiful strong, soloist voice. Jeramie used her gift of singing as a missionary even as a young teenager. Yet despite being surrounded with mission and faith, she struggled with a mindset of earning approval from God through doing good things. This made her spiritual life very burdensome. Through a family crisis, God revealed His care for Jeramie and her family, and transformed her relationship with Him to one that is full of love and peace. After this, Jeramie had another experience that helped her faith grow. Her father challenged her to join a national singing competition with the idea of looking for opportunities to witness for her faith. She joined the competition and excelled in it. But what would she do when the competition required her to sing on Sabbath? Would she stand by her convictions or compromise to secure fame and fortune? Beau grew up in Western Sydney with a picture of God that was distressing. He understood God to be distant, stern, harsh and cruel – that God somehow enjoyed torturing people in hell. In early high school, a friend showed him a different picture of God – a God that went out of His way to help people and bring them salvation. Despite this new and attractive picture of God in his mind, Beau followed a life that was rebelling and running from Him. As a result, he went through a roller coaster life of drugs, alcohol, depression, overdosing and prison. Beau finally came to a crossroad when his health was in crisis and he realised either he could keep going and die alone or follow a new path with God. Kate was brought up in a Christian home. She learned how to have daily devotions at a young age and enjoyed attending a church Bible study class on Sabbath mornings, both of which were instrumental in her decision to follow God. Unfortunately, her dad was diagnosed with cancer and died when she was a teenager. Following this, Kate spiralled into depression. At the same time, spiritually, she found herself doing things because she ought to, not because she wanted to. What did Kate find helpful in coping with her negative emotions? As a teenager, where was she invited to live (against many people’s advice) that was pivotal in her emotional and spiritual healing? As a young girl, Lena went to church with her mother in South Korea. But she stopped going to church at age 12 and absorbed herself in secular activities and education. As a University student, she went travelling and studied overseas. Her career direction went from English language and literature to dentistry to nursing to medicine. It was in Australia that she finally responded to God knocking on the door of her heart. You will be amazed at how God kept drawing her back to church institutions to study and work. Daniel Collier was a typical young man, raised in a good home where his parentssought to bring him up well. He attended church for Easter, Christmas andfunerals, but apart from that wasn’t particularly interested in religion. He was a bright child and did well scholastically. As a result people expected he would get a good job and earn lots of money. He worked in retail selling games, but that didn’t satisfy him. Then he transferred to the police force in an endeavour to help people. However, he kept seeing repeat offenders that didn’t want his help. He thought what am I doing here? He began questioning things. He thought there has to be more to this existence than to live, to die, and become worm food. He thought about the purpose of life and also about the after life. A thirst to know what the Bible had to say was developing in Daniel. He did some Bible studies with Jehovah’s Witnesses that came to his door, but he couldn’t accepteverything they taught as it didn’t always line up with the Bible. One day aperson came to his door selling Christian books. Daniel shared with him hisinterest to understand the Bible and started weekly Bible studies the followingweek. He loved what he was learning, he continued to grow spiritually andcommitted his life to God in baptism. Listen to his journey!

Pr John and Angela have been married for 36 years and travelled to many countries around the world. Though raised in the church, John was not interested in God when he was young. How did God reach him? Hear their story of how God brought them on the twisting, turning journey from New York to the cornfields of southern Illinois. John says his life went from tragedy to triumph. He was born to a Mum and Dad that weren’t married and at three months of age, he and older sister were left in the home of the baby sitter. She was a Seventh-day Adventist. John’s parents never came back for them. John has written an autobiography “Abandoned, but Not Alone.” (9:10) Angela’s upbringing was quite different to John’s. Have a listen!

Greg Morikone shares snippets of his life story, from childhood through to his position at the time as General Vice President at 3ABN, and how it has shaped his life. Being home-schooled and raised in a Christian home in the country, Greg learned and developed many skills including business, as he would work in the garden and sell produce on the roadside at an early age.  Greg loved going with his family to visit sick neighbours, singing and caring for them.  After attending a Revelation Seminar, Greg committed his life to God in baptism at the age of 12. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for his spiritual walk. While attending a Christian university, he saw double standards and told his Dad that he wanted to give up on God. Greg remembers his dad’s good advice, don’t look to man, we are human and make mistakes. Look to God, He will never fail you or disappoint you. Don’t get discouraged with the church, look to Jesus who is the author and finisher of your faith.  At Greg’s first meal at university he met his wife and the thought entered his mind, I will marry this lady. From a rubbish dump to a pulpit. That is the amazing story of Leeboy Tobias from Port Moresby. Helped by Dennis Perry’s Operation Food For Life, God has worked an amazing transformation in this young man’s life. Hear him tell his story.

Born in Nigeria to Lebanese parents who wanted to give him a good education, they sent Raymond to a Jesuit boarding school in Lebanon at the age of 5. While there he had to go to confession. One day following confession as he walked away he remembered an unconfessed sin. What should he do? He decided not to go back and confess his sin. The next day he went to church wearing a tuxedo with a clean, white shirt, but spiritually he felt so filthy.  When Ray returned home from boarding school, his Mum was driving past a protestant church, he asked his Mum, “What is the difference between our church and their church?” She said, “The difference is they confess their sins directly to God, but we confess them to the priest”. I thought to myself, “That is so much better.” I wondered why we had to go through a priest.  Ray lost his spiritual interest in God. However, God did not lose interest in Ray. Listen to Ray’s story and hear how God was trying to reveal Himself to Ray throughout his life. As is common to humanity, when faced with ill health, Ray found God’s love by reading the book of John in the Bible. His heart was touched and he responded to the Holy Spirit. He continued his love for the Bible, reading it morning and evening and he has continued to grow in understanding God’s Word. He sees the Sabbath is a special day that we can spend time with God.

Helen Hall is a dedicated teacher serving as a volunteer administrator at a school in a refugee camp in Thailand. She has been there about 36 years. The school is large with about 900 students and 50 teachers. She tells of the adventures, dangers and rewards of such work. Originally Helen took a one year leave of absence from teaching in Australia to go teach in Thailand, but she never returned to work in Australia again. Although she doesn’t have the luxuries of a western lifestyle she feels she has not given up a thing! She feels God has given her freedom to work overseas. She is not planning on retiring or she would get bored. She said she has celebrated her 80th birthday. Helen’s goal is to train future leaders and by the way, she still has a full teaching load!

Growing up Jasper was addicted to video games. However, his life took a change of direction when he found Jesus and fell in love with God’s Word. He found true satisfaction by ministering to others whether it was giving Bible studies, preaching, conducting health programs, and more recently media ministry. Incredibly the reading of Luke 19:10 “He that is faithful in that which is least, is faithful also in much”. Luke 16:10 significantly impacted Jasper’s career. Listen as Jasper tells how God has opened up media ministry opportunities. Be inspired to consider how God may lead you as you choose to be faithful in the things that are least.

Linelle Cassie grew up in a lovely Christian home. Later she was teaching in a Christian school, but after praying a specific prayer and reading a specific Bible verse God changed the direction of her life.  Linelle shares how a specific prayer and a specific Bible verse changed her experience with God to a more meaningful and loving relationship and changed her career. Now she couldn’t be happier. She knows she is where God wants her to be and doing what He wants her to do.  How can a person with no electricity, no refrigerator, and no hot water, in an extremely poor area in Uganda be incredibly happy? Listen as Linelle shares her story.

Born into a Christian family in Zimbabwe, Ruth and family were strongly involved in their local church. Wanting to give Ruth a good education they migrated to Australia to a country town. It was exciting moving to Australia, the land of Skippy the kangaroo, but her spiritual beliefs and habits would be challenged. There were no youth in her new church and she desired friendship of other young people. Her spiritual habits were guided by her parent’s beliefs, they were not her own. Ruth is grateful that her parents explained from the Bible why they held the beliefs they did and encouraged her to follow God. When Ruth moved out of home to attend university her wings were no longer clipped. What would she do? While attending a friend’s party she looked around and then left. This started her life in a different direction. She switched from secular university to Avondale College and later she attended an intense Bible course. That had a huge impact on her life. Now she says, it is my faith and no longer my parents’ faith, which is really amazing!

Elizabeth was born into a Christian home and raised in rural New South Wales. They attended church weekly and the family had morning and evening worship. When old enough to read Elizabeth was given her own Bible and began having her own personal Bible study and prayer time. This shaped her life.  Quite different to his wife, Kyle was raised in a secular home with the influence of alcohol, smoking, drugs and city life all around. However, due to his love for sport he stayed away from many of the harmful influences surrounding him. During high school years, Kyle was living with his aunt and uncle in upstate New York. The aunt went to a Christian health centre for her severe arthritis and received significant benefit. The health centre followed Biblical principles for health. To support her, the whole household changed their diet and lifestyle and they all benefited.  Why did the family band break up? Why did Kyle’s aunt become a Seventh-day Adventist Christian? Did Kyle decide to follow her decision?

Kaysie was born and raised by Seventh-day Adventist parents. She had many positive influences in her growing up years. Her mother had daily personal devotions and she guided Kaysie to do the same. She started this around the age of seven. Kaysie’s older brother loved God and loved reading the Bible. His decision to be baptised had a big impact on her. Another significant contributing factor on Kaysie’s spiritual journey was seeing her mother’s prayer life and many answers to prayer!  Kaysie made a decision to follow God and signified this by baptism. However, shortly afterwards she found herself in a dark place. Thoughts would enter her mind saying, “You are a hypocrite, you are not good enough”. It was at this time she learnt a big lesson—Faith is not feeling! She learnt that what God promises she could depend on! (She had learnt, God has promised, I can believe it.) Having to go through that process strengthened her faith in God tremendously.  There was one book that she found particularly helpful in her spiritual growth, and wished she had read it much earlier, because it clarified so many things in her mind. What was this book that showed the steps of coming to Christ?

Kerryn was raised in a close family with strong Christian beliefs. She fell in love with the Bible when her parents took her to a Revelation seminar and she gave her heart to God in baptism at the age of 12.  Kerryn loved the outdoors and was home schooled for several years. When she transitioned to going to school as a teenager she struggled because she was shy and the girls had their cliques. After getting some exam results she wasn’t happy with, Kerryn hit a low point in her life. She was devastated. She didn’t like the advice her mother or sister gave her, and even her attempts to release her emotions through piano playing created more anxiety. She couldn’t play and she had upcoming piano exams. That day nothing worked for her. She had hit rock bottom. Everything that had given her identity had failed her.  What brought Kerryn out of this crisis? How did God restore self-worth and identity to her? What choice did God give to Kerryn? What books helped give her a sense of value? Listen to her story for the answers.

Raised by Christian parents in rural Tasmania, Lyle had an idyllic start to life. He attended a very small local school. He learned skills out of school like being able to fix things, to drive a tractor, to shoot and catch fish to name a few. Around the time Lyle went to high school two major things happened in his life. He experienced a culture shock going to high school in Hobart because his interests and entertainment ideas just didn’t fit in. His mother also died only a couple of months after starting high school. After these two things Lyle felt very lost.  Lyle’s world was shaken. His Dad remarried and he had to adjust to a step-mother, his home seemed to have fallen apart and his social network had changed.  Lyle left home and went and lived in the bush in an abandoned apple picker’s hut. He suddenly had no restrictions, no boundaries and no foundation. His spiritual walk was impacted negatively. This sent him on a journey to find something for himself. He had big questions. Is Christianity real? Can I find stability here? Would it give him meaning? Is God real? Does He want to be part of my life?  In his hut, by kerosene lamp, what did he read that completely transformed his life so much so that he was a completely different person?

Lindy is a Chaplain in aged care. As a people person, she loves the role. She was born and raised in Victoria to an Adventist family. There were a few traumas and problems which resulted in mum taking the 3 children and leaving. Lindy was 12. Mum encouraged keeping in touch with dad and they visited regularly. Lindy was the only one that chose to stay with her faith. She valued the friendship and stability that a church family provided. At 14, Lindy was baptised. Did Lindy’s life become a positive one? No. Battles with depression and attempted suicide, made Lindy re- think her life. She remembers vividly for years waking up feeling sad. Counselling and medication assisted her to cope. Yet, when she realised that it was her ‘thinking’ (not circumstances) that were controlling her emotions, there came changes in her life that led to the vibrant, loving Christian she is today. Lindy shares how the Holy Spirit helped her to confront the negativity of Satan and today her life is a testimony of love, joy and experiencing the Holy Spirit.

Ever wondered what family life is like in other countries? Diane was born and raised in the Philippines by Catholic parents. Dad was the breadwinner. Mum was the disciplinarian, motivator, and strong parental influence. Diane completed high school and elected remote university as she wanted independence. It was an Seventh-day Adventist University. She applied for a nursing degree which, happened to have some religious components. She was amazed to find how much she enjoyed studying Daniel and Revelation. She met a man who would be her boyfriend for 5 years. Though Diane suspected he was someone who flaunted rules, nevertheless she remained with him. A stabbing incident in the man’s life brought on an untimely death. Diane had no one to turn to. She decided to do the only thing she could think of. Pray! It was time for a change. You’ll find out what happened next in this interview. As you listen to Diane’s playing and singing, you’ll also hear how God rescued her from despair to Hope.

Matt was born and raised in Western Sydney, in an Adventist home. At age 6, Matt’s parents moved the family to the Sopas Hospital in New Guinea. They worked as nurses and training nurses. It was a time when Christianity and the love of God rubbed shoulders with the dark traditions of the natives. 8 years later, they returned to Sydney. Eager to study theology, Matt moved to Avondale College. Here he met and married Heidi (a teacher). You’d expect a happy ending, wouldn’t you? Matt shares the challenges that Satan threw at him. Academically it was hard. His health took a decline. Depression set in. Matt suffered tremendously adjusting to the new challenges now facing the family. Did the tough times break them? Matt’s story is a must to hear. It will increase your faith in the God who always answers our prayers, in His timing.

Blake is pastor. He was also involved in programs for 3ABN radio and TV. The church has a NEWSTART juice bar and a second-hand shop at the front. The rear is where church services are conducted every Saturday 10:30am followed with lunch. Blake was born and raised in California as you will hear from his accent. What is he doing in Australia? As you hear Blake’s testimony you will marvel at how God plucked him out of a life of drug and alcohol addiction. A rebel at heart, Blake’s life was not a happy one despite parents who were dedicated and positive. You’ll be amazed at the story of his grandfather’s life of crime. Miracles started popping into Blake’s life like an anonymous payment of fees to a Christian college, an invitation to hear Herb Larson preaching and a Christian concert where he almost responded to an altar call. How did he get the Bible he challenged God to get for him? This testimony is one that vividly portrays not only God’s creativity, but his genuine love for us all.

Eugenia is Romanian born. At 18 she moved to Italy to study. She had a challenging childhood and felt lonely amongst her siblings. Her parents did not have a strong relationship. She was raised to believe God was a God of law and if she fell into temptation or sin, she would be judged. Most of her life was spent feeling tired and lethargic. No one recognised she had depression. She began to read the Bible and look for solutions. She accepted Jesus into her life and looked forward to doing missionary service for Him. But still the lingering tiredness was there. No one noticed the struggle going on inside. Whilst in Malaysia at a health retreat, in the natural setting, the peace and quiet, she found her view of God becoming more positive. She says, “God took me away from home to make me stronger”. He pushed me out of my comfort zone. And he gave me peace in the storms of my life. Eugania’s testimony leaves us with this message. Never give up praying or reading your Bible. Take your feelings to God in prayer. The Greatest gift is to know God. His grace is sufficient for all our needs.

President and founder of AENON in Malaysia, David shares how, AENON developed from the smallest beginnings to the successful enterprise AENON is today. It’s a health retreat for healing physically, emotionally and sharing God’s love. His family were Taoists. David was the only child in a large family with low academic performance. His passion was eating. At 11, David attended church with his friend. Nobody teased or bullied him. He says, “I first went for the friendship, but God soon became a true friend. A friend invited David to join him in medical missionary work. They rented a cottage and treated their mothers with a plant-based diet, exercise and simple treatments. Both ladies improved in their health. The next step was to study in America as medical missionaries. For David nights were spent studying the dictionary for basic understanding. The results will amaze you. From discouragement and depression, to vibrant Christian living and leadership. How did this all come about? At the end of his testimony, David states, “If you have God, you have everything”!

What happens when a person deliberately chooses a life of crime, drugs and violence? Is God able to get through to a person like this? Daniel shares how he had chosen a life of crime and drugs. Years of anger, fighting and crime followed. At the same time, Daniel’s parents (now divorced) felt helpless as they watched their son’s life going to pieces. They had taken him to church with them, but it made no difference. Finally, Daniel came to the stage of “is this all life is”? Every time he vowed to stop, drugs took over and fighting returned. A girlfriend (tattooed and with a gun) started reading a devotional book one morning. He heard, “What does it profit a man if he gains the world but loses his soul"? Daniel started thinking. God spoke to him, “Daniel I’ve done everything to save you. You’re not doing this because of ignorance. Today your probation closes. You decide. Either Satan or me”. It was a message of judgement and love”. What did Daniel decide? Tune in to hear this gripping story of God’s victory over Satan.

Eben was raised in a very dedicated South African  family with good solid biblical foundation. They were conservative Pentecostals. Compulsory national service called. At the training base, Eben was introduced to drinking and smoking, something frowned on back home. With training over, Eben returned to complete his education. He chose fashion. Mother urged him to keep reading Scripture.  During a convention, Eben’s interest turned to theology. He swapped his course to a theology degree.  His tutors were kept  busy answering his many question. He completed the course and .... entered a successful business career!  The high life came to a crashing halt when tragedy struck his life (listen to find out what happened). It left Eben shattered, physically and spiritually. He contemplated suicide.  Today Eben is a pastor/evangelist  in the Seventh Day Adventist church.  What happened?   In his own words, Eben says, “I had two choices, 1) Chuck out the Bible and truth. 2) Chuck out life and kill myself. As Eben would agree, God is very creative in getting our attention.

Our guest today is Yip Kok Tho.  Malaysian by birth, Yip lives in Singapore. He is Chairman of Aenon, a residential lifestyle Health centre and training school for therapists, operating in Malaysia for over 20 years. It includes the NEWSTART health program, where participants who are suffering with health conditions learn about the 8 laws of health.  Yip was raised in the Taoist Buddhist tradition.  He spent 20 years practising Zen meditation. At 38 he converted to Christianity.  Yip’s testimony is one Christians need to hear. Yip outlines in depth, the difference between Eastern meditation compared to Christian meditation.  Originally, suffering with stomach migraines, led Yip to seek relief in eastern meditation. Whilst attending the NEWSTART program Yip found the benefits physically that helped him with his condition. In the process, he also discovered God. For him, this was the turning point in his life. Our guest today, Dr. Thomas Joseph, was born in India into a Christian family. How did Thomas come by his English names? Thomas is an actual descendant of Thomas the Apostle of Jesus, whom he is named after. The family were Syrian Christians at the time but are now practicing Seventh Day- Adventists. Meeting a minister, what would you expect? Preaching, hospital visits, counselling etc. Our guest today is Pastor Braedan. Born in Ipswich and raised in a Christian environment, Braedan says, his first Bible was his parents! His goal in life was to be a doctor. Even today he loves all things medical. Public speaking was a terror filled event. Yet he is in ministry today and enjoying preaching and public speaking! Imagine being prompted to ‘go to the library’ with hundreds of books there. Being led to a specific shelf and a book that when opened reads, “....” (listen to find out). And there’s more! Driving past flats he has visited before, he feels impressed to “go and check the flats.” He goes to check those who were out last time. Nothing. He turns to leave. “You’ve missed a flat”. Braedan knows the place. They told him not to return. He cautiously knocks. It opens and .... [it’s amazing what happens]. One thing is for sure. Ministry isn’t just a job. It’s a calling.

Jean was born and raised in the Philippines, in an Adventist family.Jean practised her religion at home but with one foot in the secular camp. She was studying towards becoming a physical therapist. Times were hard. The family struggled financially. Her mother had a dream about Jean preaching to crowds on a mountain side. At 19, Jean attended a youth conference conducted by Amazing Facts. The focus of her life changed dramatically. Now she wanted to work as a missionary for God. Amazing Facts offered a course in evangelism. She told them she couldn’t afford the fees. They encouraged her to enrol anyway. On arrival at the campus her entire fees had been paid! This began an incredible prayer answering ministry for Jean. She shares the miracles God brought into her life especially when preaching in faraway and sometimes unsafe places. Despite the devil trying to thwart her mission, today she is not only working on Christian radio in the Philippines but running crusades wherever she is invited.

A health and outreach missionary worker, Robert has had much experience as a missionary. His family survived Cyclone Tracey when Robert was just 6 months old. At 15, Robert’s cousin came to live with the family. He was a lad who had a deep relationship with God. Robert wanted this too and asked him how he could do this. His cousin responded with, “Read your Bible and pray”. At 19 Robert’s friend asked him, “what are you doing Saturday?” Robert couldn’t respond. As a Seventh Day Adventist, he went to church on a Saturday. Why was he so tongue-tied about this? He took it to God and asked Him to put the words in His mouth. He did and this was the start of an even deeper walk with God. Robert shares stories of events that took place when he visited other countries to preach. A hair-raising experience in Papua New Guinea helped him realise that no matter where he served God, God was always one step ahead. Anyone struggling with addiction, depression, anxiety or suicide, will hear the story of hope and recovery in this interview. Christy ( a nurse in ICU), spent years with depression and anxiety. She swallowed pills that never stopped the pain. Five unsuccessful suicide attempts plus addiction to alcohol and smoking, didn’t help. Looking at Christy today, you would never dream it was the same person. Her inspiring testimony will give hope to those needing to make a change in their lives. As a child Marleta wanted to sing. Her efforts were not encouraged, she was told she wasn’t really singing but elongating words. Not one to give up easily, Marleta sang in groups at church and in the choir. In 2011, at 21 years of age the opportunity to sing solo came. The chosen singer for the youth program was unable to attend. Marleta was invited to fill in. She sang the Celtic version of “When I survey The Wondrous Cross” with acoustics. God had opened the door. She says “ My prayer to sing for God finally came true”. Her sister Charissa, a dynamic preacher and Marleta sing together and at times are joined by their pianist as a trio. They have performed overseas and travel extensively all over Australia and Sydney sharing the Gospel through preaching and music. You will be blessed to hear Marleta singing some of her favourites during this interview. Her reason for choosing her songs is a powerful testimony in itself. How do you practise your faith in a communist country? The secret police are constantly watching you, infiltrating your members and, trying to block the Gospel being shared. Growing up in Communist Czechoslovakia ,Petr, a founding member for Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) found that though church was ‘allowed’  it was monitored,  had constant surveillance and Infiltrated spies. The most hazardous event for Petr, was when he visited Sudan to interview and document the survival of the church.  Prior to leaving for home, Petr was arrested for treason and espionage, and other charges.  Surrounded by Islamic prisoners, he suffered physical and emotional abuse.  Thirteen long months, most of them in solitary, was difficult, unable to contact family as well as a gag on speaking out loud! Miraculously, after a few months in solitary, he was allowed a Bible to read! He realised God was preparing him for something. What happened? Why did they release him? Petr shares more during this testimony. His motto? Words from Richard Wurmbrand, “to do the work of God is dangerous, but not to do the work of God is more dangerous.” Petr counts it a privilege to the ‘voice of the voiceless’.

For anyone living with or struggling with eating disorders, depression and anxiety, this interview is for you. As a child, Diane struggled with longings to be comforted and to feel loved. PTSD plagued her life. Dad’s upbringing had been fraught with violence. Mum kept family issues a secret, so negative issues were never discussed. Even though dad was a non-drinker, after getting work in a bar, he became an alcoholic. The one positive in Diane’s childhood was that dad took them to church. Happy times only occurred at Christmas. The death of both parents drove Diane further down the spiral of eating disorders, depression and anxiety. Did Diane ever find the peace and love she craved? In her testimony, Diane relates how she heard a TV program by Steve Wohlberg. Her walk with Jesus began. As you listen to Diane’s testimony you will marvel at how God is always there to pick up the pieces and show us a new and trusting faith in Him.

Manuel’s testimony begins in the mid 1960’s during the liberation wars in South Africa. Manuel was sent to Helderberg College. Speaking neither English nor Afrikaans, he was a silent new student. A staff member heard him singing lustily in the shower one morning and asked him to be quiet. The music teacher, however, was impressed. She took him under her wing. God came into his life through mum a Seventh Day Adventist and dad, (a Catholic). The family was poor and lived close to the shanty town. Yet from these humble beginnings, God would raise Manuel up to ministry. Manuel’s musical portfolio is long and successful. It brought him fame and fortune. Yet with it came emptiness. His son died. His mother and his sister also died. Divorce followed. It was a low time. 1994 was pivotal for Manuel. Should he continue his successful career or give in to the promptings of the Holy Spirit? This interview is not to be missed. It also has Manuel performing three of his songs.

Duane was born and raised near Lismore NSW. Parents were Seventh Day Adventists and a positive influence in his life. Having two brothers 4-5 years older than Duane meant he led a solitary life. He spent hours in front of TV, dabbled in drugs and the party life throughout his teens. He describes it as, “one foot in God’s camp, the other in Satan’s.” Heavy metal rock music, taking drugs, driving and maintaining racing cars was his passion. Amazingly, God had a call on his life. Today Duane is in his final year of Theology. How did he find his way back to God? What happened? What emphasis did God put on his life that brought him to Avondale? Duane’s testimony is inspiring to listen to. His love for Jesus is paramount in his life and he looks forward to the next step of his journey with God.

Born in Massachusetts, Jill was raised in a Christian but legalistic environment. She longed for a relationship with Jesus. She would set a place for Him at the table and Imagine Jesus holding her hand before sleeping. There was the mental anguish of trying to be ‘perfect’ for Jesus. At 14, Jill wrote in her diary, “God, you and Christianity don’t work! I’m going to walk away from you!” She noticed her mum changing. All the buttons Jill tried to push to aggravate her didn’t work! Finally, Jill asked “what happened to you? You’re different”. Mum shared her conversion and new positive relationship with Jesus. This profoundly influenced Jill. Today Jill and hubby Greg, are in ministry with 3ABN. Through times of discouragement, (including a fling with soap operas for Jill), and discovering they couldn’t have children, would be enough to bring people down. But it didn’t. Born and raised in Seattle, April and her siblings’ lives lacked direction. Parents were 40 years apart in age. Mother left when April was 2. April’s testimony includes some dark times in her life. Depression was a strong component. She contemplated suicide more than once. She sought comfort and pleasure from someone other than her husband. How does one come back from despair, wanting to die and an affair of some years? Today April and hubby are dedicated workers at 3ABN. She is involved in gaol ministry. How did they come from the pain of the past and into a ministry very much God centred? April’s story is a testimony to what happens when the Holy Spirit enters our lives. April says, “let God have a big chance in your life. Consider God really is love and loves you and give Him a chance to love you. There’s so much evil in the world, choose to believe that God is love and ask him to help you to see your world through his eyes.”

Born and raised in Michigan, Donald’s testimony gives hope for anyone caught up in addiction. Our interview takes place in the West Frankfurt Illinois studios of 3ABN. One small decision can change the course your life takes. Baptised at 13 into the Baptist faith, Donald floated around different church groups. A bit of a loner, shy, bullied, he was like a sponge, absorbing people’s attitudes. Donald’s introduction to pornography came from magazines his younger brother had taken from a store. He was instantly hooked. Donald states, “pornography is a dirty nasty sin to be involved in and it’s really hard to kick.“ Fast forward to today. Donald and his wife (Janelle) are involved in Recovery Ministry. Their enthusiasm and energies are spent on their work. They are heavily involved in ministry for the Seventh Day Adventist church in Thompsonville, Illinois. How did this transition take place? How did he go from a reclusive lad to an enthusiastic spokesman for Jesus and a leader in life? This is an interview you won’t want to miss.

Julian’s testimony reveals a zig zag life, in Australia and Fiji. His parents served as missionaries. Dad was the schoolteacher in Julian’s life. As a TK (teacher’s kid) Julian had high expectations to live up to. From 11 to 19 he juggled both religion and his love of heavy metal music. This led to years of copying, emulating his idols Bruce Lee, and bands such as Suicidal etc. Julian calls this his “giving in to Satan’s evangelism”. It isn’t easy living on both sides of the track. Singing hymns at church and indulging in heavy metal during the week! Is it possible to tear away from such strong addictions? It is, when you believe in someone other than yourself. Julian’s interview highlights how God’s timing can reach the hopeless and give meaning in an otherwise meaningless existence.

Born in Cape Town South Africa, Andrew learned lessons that no child should learn. Apartheid, segregation, bullying and discrimination were daily events. A sketchy knowledge of God came from reading children’s Bible stories. The riots came to a head. Dad was injured and the decision to leave South Africa was made. They settled in the Northern beaches of Sydney and Andrew attended a Catholic school. Life settled down again. Australia was vastly different—from the styles of clothing to young groups partying and living ‘the good life’. Andrew at 15, took his first foray into drugs and alcohol and became part of the ‘in’ crowd. It was rebellion with a capital ‘R’. His health deteriorated as he continued to punish his body with substances. Now and then he would ask God, “Who are you?” “Are you Real?” But the downward spiral continued. He was asked to leave home and embarked on an acting career. What he witnessed during the filming of ‘The Matrix’ in Sydney will keep you on the edge of your seat. How did he go from this to becoming a pastor today? This story will grip you from start to finish.

Today’s interview is good news for Christian parents, especially parents who are in leadership. With the high expectations that are placed on PK’s (preacher’s kids) or TK’s (teacher’s kids) Christopher and Jesse share how they navigated through this kind of pressure. Christopher was born and raised in Coffs Harbour. Jesse is Victorian born. Their lives followed similar paths. As a member of a congregation of some 7,000 people (Dutch Reform, Presbyterian), Nicolene whilst listening to DVD’s (God’s Final Call) began plying her pastors with questions. They encouraged her to research the questions. This exciting journey culminated with Nicolene and her family changing their faith. Then hearing what her children were being taught about Evolution vs Creation spurred Nicolene to dig deeper. “One hypothesis shapes another hypothesis. “Taste, Observe, Repeat.” What does this mean? “How on earth did everything fit into the ark? Fine Paiaaua, is of Tongan heritage but an Australian citizen, born in Sydney. He studied theology at Avondale University, Cooranbong NSW. Life was tough in the Paiaaua home. 8 children to feed, meant both mum and dad worked two jobs each in order to feed the family and keep them together. Fine’s childhood and early teen years held a good deal of turmoil. He witnessed abuse in the family, bullying and discrimination at school. He outlines more in this interview. At 12 years of age, something happened that changed his thinking. What happened to bring about the changes? How was Fine able to give up his dream of becoming a star football player and studying theology at Avondale?

Carol was born in Cape Town South Africa.  8 sisters and 4 brothers meant mum’s hands were full. At 8 years of age, Carol was babysitting. This Catholic family feared God.  Carol eventually married and migrated to Australia in 1985.   She worked in Kings Cross, part-time at Wayside chapel and part-time managing the Internet Café.  Daily she rubbed shoulders with addicts and homeless people.  She also studied counselling, sports massage, alternate therapies such as Reiki and yoga etc.  Before taking a yoga class, Carol would pray. Something very unusual happened. What was it?   Her son had become an Adventist. Carol decided to check out what she thought was a cult. Her sister had invited her to attend AA as a support person and Carol discovered something astonishing.  It was life changing.   Carol moved on to a corporate position.  Life was too busy, so she decided to take a Sabbatical. The war in Central Africa in 1984 left young Fabiano and his family homeless. Thousands fled with what they could carry. It involved crossing Lake Tanganyika to the Congo, lying on banana palms to float across. Many drowned. The family was accepted into a UN refugee camp to re-settle. Fires burned nightly to ward off lions/animals stealing unprotected people. There was war within the camp that meant more migrating on foot. Crossing the lake again till they reached Tanzania. Dad was Catholic. In Africa, the family must follow dad’s religion. Over the next ten years the family earned a living through dad’s successful trading. Dad was murdered by jealous refugees. What happens next is nothing short of a miracle. Mum remarried. Their stepdad, an Adventist means the family becomes Adventist. Scroll forward a few years and Fabiano experiences another kind of war. Safely migrated to a Western country, this time the war is within him, a turning away from his faith. Then an amazing story of courage, fortitude and the protection of God unfolded. This story will grip you from beginning to end.

Born in Invercargill N.Z, the eldest of 6 children, Alistair was expected to follow his dad’s career as a builder. But Alistair had another love – Cooking! Burning his first batch of toffee, he was forbidden to do any more cooking. He managed to sneak in a second batch. It was delicious. Alistair was on his way to becoming a chef. The family was expected to attend church every Sunday with mum. “Don’t you ever have that man and his Bible here again! Or I’ll make sure he doesn’t come back ever.” Who said this? What happened? Alistair will answer that question. Several years later and the Bible Study question rises again. Did it take place or was it dismissed? That’s an exciting story in itself. From a tender young age, Colin was on a search for meaning. This grew into a thirst to understand Who God was. At 17 he entered the Navy where he spent 7 years navigating around the world. From early Catholic leanings through Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witness and Eastern religions Colin’s search continued. At 29 whilst working in Melbourne, Colin decided that he would approach God directly. His first question was, “God, do you exist?" and “If you do exist, where is your church?" No answer. Later, in Sydney and walking along Bondi Beach one night, Colin met some young people.
