- 449 - I Was Told I Was "Too Much" My Whole Life — Turns Out That Was the Point. Here's Why. | Clutterbug Episode #346
Hey Clutterbugs! You know what we don’t talk about enough? ADHD success stories. We need to hear more about building a business (or a life!) when traditional productivity advice just doesn't work for our brains. In this episode, I sit down with my friend Ari Scott — ADHD entrepreneur coach, founder of The ADHD Entrepreneur, and someone who I immediately clocked as "my flavor of weird" the second we met — to talk about working with your ADHD brain instead of against it. Ari was expelled from school at 16, got fired from five jobs, and stumbled into ADHD entrepreneurship coaching almost by accident after a conversation during COVID changed everything. We get real about the shared backstory a lot of us don't talk about — the shame, the self-diagnosis debate, the "too intelligent to have ADHD" dismissals — and how reframing failure completely changed both of our trajectories. We also get into: ✨ Why ADHD traits like impulsivity and creative risk-taking can be genuine superpowers, not just liabilities ✨ Ari's "Magic Five" to-do list method — the antidote to "Eat That Frog" that's actually built for ADHD brains ✨ Why chasing systems and productivity hacks without addressing shame first is often a waste of energy ✨ The difference between optimizing for neurotypical standards vs. optimizing for how your actual brain works ✨ A "brutal honesty" round where Ari calls me out on my own business fears, and I return the favor about her home life (or lack thereof) ✨ Why you don't need a formal diagnosis to start using tools and community that genuinely help If you've ever been told you're "too much," this conversation is a reminder that the things people called your flaws might actually be exactly what makes you unstoppable. Mon, 05 Oct 2026 - 448 - The 5 Step Trick That Makes Procrastination Impossible | Clutterbug Episode #345
Hey Clutterbugs! Want to know how to stop procrastinating and finally start the things you keep putting off, from decluttering your house to chasing a big dream? In this episode, I sit down with Dana K. White, author of Procrastinators Get Stuff Done and creator of the No Mess Method, to break down her simple five-step anti-procrastination process for overcoming overwhelm, one tiny step at a time. Dana taught hundreds of thousands of people to declutter without making a bigger mess, and now she's turned the same approach on procrastination. We talk about why we really put things off, why "make a plan" is step four and not step one, and why so many of us spiral into research mode instead of taking action. I also get real about the book edits I've been avoiding, and we try the method on my own manuscript live. I'll also tell you the story of how I went from "this system will never work for me" to full-blown Dana K. White believer. Procrastinators Get Stuff Done comes out October 6th, and you can pre-order at danakwhite.com/procrastinate, where the pre-order bonuses include strategy sessions working through real projects! Mon, 28 Sep 2026 - 447 - Hack Your Home: Netflix Star Jess Banks on Storage Hacks & Why Your House Isn't Designed for You | Clutterbug Episode #344
Looking for small space storage hacks and home organization ideas that actually make sense for how you live? In this episode, I sit down with Jess Banks — robotics engineer, furniture designer, and star of Netflix's Hack Your Home — to talk about why homes fail us, and the small, genius hacks that can fix it. Jess has an insane background — physics, robotics, running her own kinetic furniture company — and she brings all of it to how she thinks about storage and space. We get into why "messy" isn't actually a character flaw (it's just a mismatch between your brain and your space), how to design furniture and storage that flexes for visual vs. hidden organizers, and why she thinks almost every home is missing a few key pieces of smart storage. We also get into: ✨ Why homes are never really built for how any one person actually lives — and what to do about it ✨ The "touchpoint" method for deciding what deserves prime real estate vs. deep storage ✨ Jess's ADHD, her own visual-but-contained organizing style, and how she's "hacked" her own space to work with her brain instead of against it ✨ Why multi-purpose furniture (like a table that folds flat into the wall) might be the small-space answer we've all been missing ✨ Her surprisingly brilliant trick of using different scents to help her brain context-switch between creative, analytical, and admin work If you've ever felt like your clutter is somehow your fault, this conversation is a great reminder: it's not you, it's your storage. Mon, 21 Sep 2026 - 446 - She Came Home from the Hospital to a House of Clutter (then one question changed her life!) | Clutterbug Episode #343
Ever wonder why you can declutter your house and it just... comes back? In this episode, I sit down with Katy Joy Wells — author, decluttering expert, and host of The Maximized Minimalist podcast — to talk about the emotional root of clutter and why most decluttering advice only scratches the surface. Katy opens up about the accident that changed everything for her — a head-on collision that left her not knowing if her husband would survive, and coming home that same day to face the clutter she'd been avoiding for years. It's an honest, emotional conversation, and it completely reframes what decluttering is actually about. We get into: ✨ Katy's "clutter onion" — the four layers of clutter (superficial, scarcity, sentimental, and identity) and why the deepest layer is almost never about the stuff ✨ Why some of us can declutter one room like a pro and freeze completely in another ✨ My own identity clutter — the home decor I couldn't let go of, and the "someday I'll be different" stuff I held onto for years ✨ How to write your own personal definition of clutter so you stop needing outside permission to let something go ✨ A 10-minute challenge you can do today to start cutting through the clutter that's actually about something deeper If you've ever felt like you're the only one who can't seem to keep it together, this conversation is a reminder that clutter isn't a character flaw — it's usually just an unanswered question. Mon, 14 Sep 2026 - 445 - Why Changing Your Space Changes Who You Are (Not Just How It Looks) | Clutterbug Episode #342
Hey Clutterbugs! Want to know why decluttering and organizing your home can change your entire life — not just your space? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Angela Duckworth, bestselling author of Grit and her brand new book Situated, to talk about the science behind why changing your environment is more powerful than "just trying harder." Angela breaks down the Three Boxes model, and honestly, it explained my entire life back to me. We get into why willpower is overrated, why "just try harder" culture is kind of a trap, and why editing your space (not forcing more discipline) is the real secret to lasting change. We also get real with topics like . . . ✨ My own decluttering "rock bottom" and how changing my environment changed who I was, not just how my house looked ✨ Why I think weight loss surgery is a situational fix, not a shortcut — and why shame around GLP-1s and other "easier" paths needs to go ✨ Getting diagnosed with ADHD at 40 and how surrounding myself with the right people (situational change!) helped me finally build the life and career I wanted ✨ Why grit isn't about intensity — it's about consistency, and why my whole "do it badly on purpose" philosophy might actually be a form of grit after all If you've ever felt like you're failing no matter how hard you try, this episode might just reframe everything. Sometimes the answer isn't more effort — it's a better situation. To purchase Angela's new book, please visit https://www.angeladuckworth.com/situated Want to get organized? Mon, 07 Sep 2026 - 444 - How to Make Your Home Feel Like YOU (Without Spending Money) | Clutterbug Episode #341
Want interior design tips that actually reflect your personal style — not just another Pinterest trend? In this episode, I talk home decor, storytelling through design, and chasing big dreams with Olivia Westbrooks, interior designer and star of Hallmark's Home Is Where the Heart Is. Olivia has been designing for over 22 years, and after her show gave her a taste of what's possible, she got real with me about what came next . . . and why she finally pulled her podcast equipment out of the box after three years of letting it collect dust (be honest, is yours still in the box too?). We get into: ✨ Why the best-designed homes tell a story instead of following a trend ✨ How to figure out your personal style when you don't even know where to start ✨ Why doing something badly on purpose might be the fastest way through perfectionism ✨ Small, low-cost ways to make your space feel more like you today — no renovation required ✨ The moment Olivia posted her most "imperfect" video ever... and it became her best-performing post If you've ever shoved a dream to the bottom of your list because life got busy, or you're stuck buying stuff that never quite feels you, this conversation is your permission slip to take one small, brave step today. Mon, 31 Aug 2026 - 443 - The Secret Minimalists Won't Tell You (because it's not minimalism!) | Clutterbug Episode #340
Struggling to declutter your home without it feeling cold, empty, or boring? In this episode, I sit down with Myquillyn Smith — author, home decor expert, and the mind behind The Nester — to talk all about house hushing, decluttering, and creating a soulful, cozy home you actually love. Myquillyn coined the term "house hushing," and in her brand new book (out August 25th!), she breaks it down into genius methods for quieting the visual noise in your home without sacrificing the beauty, coziness, and meaningful layers that make a house feel like you. We dig into backwards decluttering, quiet decorating, why every home has its own personality and soul, and how to actually stop stuff-shuffling into doom boxes forever (I'm looking at myself here). We also get into: ✨ Why "less stuff" doesn't have to mean "boring beige minimalism" ✨ How to find your home's holding zone without creating a new mess ✨ The difference between decorating and soulful styling ✨ Why a cabinet of curiosities might be the answer to displaying your sentimental stuff ✨ How your organizing style (Ladybug, Cricket, Bee, or Butterfly!) affects how you should hush your space If you've ever felt like your home needs to be either "minimalist" or "full of meaningful stuff" — but never both — this episode (and Myquillyn's book, House Hushing) is going to change how you think about your space completely. Mon, 24 Aug 2026 - 442 - 20 Million People Have Taken My Organizing Quiz, and This is the Truth About Your Messy Home | Clutterbug Episode #339
Hey Clutterbugs! Still confused about your organizing style? Over 20 million people have taken my Clutterbug quiz, but if you're still struggling with clutter, piles, and mess, let's diagnose you differently. Instead of asking what organizing systems work for you, I'm going to show you how to identify your style by looking at your mess. In this episode, I break down the 4 types of messy: the Dropper, the Shover, the Spreader, and the Piler. I'll teach you how to diagnose yourself in 30 seconds by looking at your kitchen counter, bathroom, and entryway. Those high-traffic spaces reveal your natural tendencies, not your fantasy self. I also share specific organizing advice for each Clutterbug style, answer listener questions about visual vs. hidden storage, and of course, give you a challenge to tackle while you listen. By the end of this episode, you'll know exactly what your organizing style is and have made real progress in your home. Let's get organized! Mon, 17 Aug 2026 - 441 - Inside the Messy Middle: Why Progress Doesn't Look Like Progress | Clutterbug Episode #338
Hey Clutterbugs! If you've been decluttering for weeks and your house STILL looks like a mess, let me be the first to tell you you're doing everything right. If you're putting in the work without seeing results, you're not failing. You're in the Valley of Disappointment, and it's exactly where you're supposed to be. After 17 years as a professional organizer, I've learned that progress isn't linear. You can work for days, weeks, even months without seeing visible change—and then suddenly, like magic, everything clicks. But most people quit right before they reach that breakthrough moment. In this episode, I'm breaking down the Valley of Disappointment (a concept from Atomic Habits by James Clear) and showing you what it looks like for each organizing style. Because understanding WHERE you are in the process is the difference between giving up and pushing through to that transformational moment. The Valley of Disappointment is temporary. Your breakthrough is right around the corner. Don't quit now—you're closer than you think. Go work on a space that feels stalled while you listen. Make it 1% better. That's all you need to do today. Mon, 10 Aug 2026 - 440 - THE 5 REAL Reasons You're Drowning in Clutter | Clutterbug Episode #337
If you've been decluttering for years and you're STILL drowning in clutter, you're not lazy—you're lying to yourself. After 17 years as a professional organizer, I've learned that your messy house isn't the problem. It's just a symptom of something deeper you haven't identified yet. In this episode, I'm revealing the 5 REAL reasons people can't let go of their stuff—and spoiler alert: it has nothing to do with not having enough time, space, or help. Those are just excuses covering up the truth. Until you can name your root cause, you'll keep decluttering the same stuff over and over again. We're not weeding the garden anymore—we're ripping out the roots. Plus, a rant about ticks and Lyme disease, because I found one in my scalp mid-recording and now I'm convinced I'm dying. This episode goes DEEP. I want you to do something mindless while you listen—vacuum, dust, fold laundry—because I need you to actually HEAR this message. Stop making excuses. Mon, 04 Nov 2024 - 436 - After 20 Years, I Turned My Biggest Decluttering Regret Into a 1-Weekend Solution—The Fastest Method | Clutterbug Episode #335
Hey Clutterbugs! Struggling to declutter your home? The co-founder of a $300M clutter removal company who's cleared out 100,000+ homes reveals the #1 mistake people make, and it’s one I made 20 years ago. If you've been decluttering slowly for months (or years) and still feel stuck, this episode will change everything. After helping hundreds of thousands of families let go of their clutter over the past 20 years, Nick Friedman (co-founder of College HUNKS Hauling Junk & Moving) has seen it all, from overflowing garages to full-blown hoarding situations. He was the very first entrepreneur ever featured on Shark Tank, appeared on Undercover Boss, and built a national brand from a borrowed cargo van in college. But more importantly? He's witnessed the exact moment people finally decide to let go . . . and what happens when they do. I spent an entire year of my life decluttering my own home, and I still wish I’d called a dumpster and changed my life on day one. Nick backs this up with insights from the field, explaining why the "rip off the band-aid” approach can work better for some people than slow, painful purging. Mon, 20 Jul 2026 - 435 - Inside The Most Important Psychology Lesson I’ve Ever Learned About Clutter | Clutterbug Episode #334
Hey Clutterbugs! Struggling with clutter and feeling stuck? Your messy home might not be about laziness—it could be an emotional wound that needs healing. In this episode, I sit down with psychologist Dr. Guy Winch to explore how failure, rejection, guilt, and loss create invisible barriers that make decluttering feel impossible. Dr. Guy Winch, bestselling author of Emotional First Aid and one of the most-watched TED speakers of all time, joins me to discuss why we treat physical cuts and scrapes immediately but ignore our emotional wounds until they become infected, festering problems. We dive deep into the psychology behind why some people feel paralyzed by clutter, why getting rid of a chipped mug can trigger overwhelming guilt, and how past failures convince us we'll never be organized. This episode is perfect for anyone who feels like they've been fighting clutter their whole life, who beats themselves up for being wasteful, or who can't seem to take action because past failures have left them feeling helpless. It's time to stop ignoring your emotional wounds and start practicing emotional hygiene. Just like brushing your teeth, but for your mental health! Mon, 13 Jul 2026 - 434 - After 45 Years: What Nobody Tells You About Adult Friendships (Stop Doing This) | Clutterbug Episode #333
Hey Clutterbugs! Making friends as an adult is hard, especially when you have ADHD, struggle with loneliness, or feel like you have people in your life but still feel alone. In this episode, I'm breaking down the 5 types of friendships you actually need for your mental health: the Cheerleader, the Challenger, the Collaborator, the Comfort Friend, and the Connector. I'm getting really vulnerable today about how badly I suck at making and maintaining friendships, why ADHD makes it even harder (object permanence, rejection sensitivity, social battery—all of it), and how growing up in an emotionally unavailable home taught me to ghost people who actually like me. If you've ever felt like friendships are exhausting work, or you're not sure what type of friend you're missing, this episode is for you. And just like your closet, your relationships need an audit. Which of the 5 types are you missing? Which one are you for the people you love? And how do you actually make new friends as a grown-up without it feeling awkward and terrible? 💬 Tell me in the comments: Which of the 5 types of friends are you missing? Mon, 22 Jun 2026 - 431 - Why Your Clutter is Keeping You Broke (And How to Fix It) | Clutterbug Podcast #330
MasterClass always has great offers for an annual subscription. If you use my link, you’ll get at least 15% off! Head over https://masterclass.yt.link/cFxOSGk for the current offer! Want to know how to save money by decluttering your home? The connection between clutter and finances is real, and your messy house is draining your bank account. Today, I'm breaking down why overspending and clutter go hand-in-hand, plus giving you four challenges to stop the cycle right now. Okay, real talk. When I finally got my clutter under control, I’m not being dramatic here, the financial shift was insane. And for the longest time, I didn't understand why decluttering my home also fixed my money problems. But now I get it, and I'm sharing all of it with you. This episode is different, friends. We're not just tidying up—we're tackling the uncomfortable stuff. The scarcity mindset that makes you panic-buy things "just in case." The emotional spending that leads to more clutter, which leads to more shame, which leads you right back to the store. And yeah, I'm gonna say the thing that might make you uncomfortable: if you have too much clutter in your home, you have an overconsumption problem. You're buying too much. Sorry, not sorry. Here's what we're covering: Why my messy house was keeping me broke (and how yours might be too) The "spending to save" trap that retailers use to exploit your fear How disorganization costs you money in duplicates, late fees, and wasted purchases Why the more clothes you have, the less you have to wear (it's bonkers but it's true) But here's the best part: we're body-doubling today, and I'm giving you FOUR challenges to do while you listen. Because here's the truth: clutter isn't just stuff. It's wasted money, wasted time, and wasted mental energy. And when you finally deal with it? You get all of that back. Let's break the wheel together, Clutterbugs. Your future self (and your bank account) will thank you. Want to get organized? Mon, 15 Jun 2026 - 430 - Your Clutter is Lying to You (Here’s How to Stop Listening) | Clutterbug Podcast #329
Hey Clutterbugs! Today we’re talking about how to declutter when you're emotionally attached to everything. Your clutter is telling you stories, and most of them are lies. We have to learn the decluttering psychology behind why we keep things we don't use, love, or need—and how to finally let go of sentimental clutter, guilt, and shame. A few months ago, a 20-second clip of me telling a client "no stories" during a decluttering session went viral—millions of views, and the comments weren't all kind. But through my own journey and after years of decluttering for clients, I've discovered that we talk ourselves into keeping things by telling elaborate stories about why we might need them, why we should use them, or why letting go makes us a bad person. In this episode, I'm teaching you how to spot the toxic narratives your belongings are whispering to you—shame, identity, and scarcity—and how to rewrite the story so you can take your power back. You'll learn: The "story spotting" tool: red flag words that mean you're about to talk yourself into keeping something How to separate facts from stories (42 coffee mugs vs. "it would be wasteful to get rid of them") My personal story about Joe's grandmother's guilt-inducing sweaters and how I finally let them go Real examples from my recent NYC makeover with Chloe and Gretchen Rubin How your Clutterbug organizing style affects the stories you tell yourself And of course, there’s a challenge involved: find one space where clutter is telling you a toxic story. Clear it. Then ask yourself: what is this space telling me NOW? Because clutter makes us feel small and suffocated. But space? Space makes us feel endlessly big. Let's rewrite the story together, Clutterbugs! Want to get organized? Mon, 04 May 2026 - 424 - Self Care is a Scam! | Clutterbug Podcast #323
Hey Clutterbug! Still exhausted even after self-care? That's because it's a scam! If you're feeling frustrated, tired, lonely, and in over your head with housework, I've got you. We’ve all heard: “Put your own oxygen mask on first.” In an emergency, yes—absolutely. But when that metaphor becomes your whole approach to life, it can quietly teach you that survival is a solo sport. If you’re overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and trying to do everything alone, this conversation will help you build healthier boundaries and stronger support systems—without guilt. Today we’re unpacking the two extremes that leave so many of us burnt out and lonely: 1. giving until you’re empty, and 2. protecting your peace so hard you end up isolated. The middle ground is interdependence: a place where care is shared over time—without keeping score and without one person carrying the whole load. We’ll talk about the four real-life relational skills this takes, the ones no one teaches us. Plus, two practical tools to help you build towards balance: 1) Chris Guillebeau’s “8th day of the week” exercise 2) The 3-3-3 method If you’ve been thinking: “Why am I STILL tired?” this episode is for you. Mon, 27 Apr 2026 - 423 - Why You Keep Buying Stuff: The Reward Behind Thrifting, Yard Sales, and Impulse Buys | Clutterbug Podcast #322
Hey Clutterbugs! Decluttering, overconsumption, and dopamine: why getting stuff for free, thrifting, dumpster diving, yard sales, and “treat yourself” shopping can feel addictive. Today, we’re talking about controlling the clutter we bring into our home. If you’re stuck in the thrill of the hunt, impulse buying, or accepting hand-me-downs you don’t need, this episode breaks down the brain science and the emotional triggers behind clutter. I’m sharing my ABCs of Clutter—the 3 ways clutter enters your home: Acquiring (free stuff), Buying (shopping for a dopamine hit), and Consenting (letting other people store things at your place). I’m talking about the real reason the hunt feels so good (anticipation dopamine vs possession dopamine), why instant gratification keeps us scrolling and spending, and how loneliness, boredom, stress, and overwhelm can push us into overconsumption. Then I’ll show you how to fight back with practical “dopamine hacks” that make decluttering easier, simple boundaries that create friction before you buy, and a 7-day Stuff Hangover Detox you can do with me; it starts with identifying the emotion that starts the scroll (or the shop), unsubscribing from shopping triggers, donating one bag of “free” items, setting a container limit, getting an earned-dopamine win by clearing a surface, doing a no-buy day, and practicing urge surfing instead of shopping. Plus: an easy decluttering task you can do while you listen for fast progress with minimal regret. If you’ve ever thought, “But it was free!” or “I deserve a little treat,” and then felt crushed by the clutter afterward, you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. Let’s get to the root, stop the intake, and make your home feel lighter again. Want to get organized? We dig into how friction derails not just your mornings but your days, and how to build tiny systems that make success inevitable. In this episode, we cover why motivation is fleeting and how to stop letting your phone (email, news, scrolling) hijack your day. Gretchen Rubin is one of my biggest heroes. Her work changed my life when I was drowning, and in this conversation we go deep on the ideas that help you actually do the thing. Maintenance sometimes feels like the hardest part of home management, and that’s what we tackle in this episode. Gretchen breaks down The Four Tendencies (Upholder, Questioner, Obliger, Rebel) and explains how she discovered this framework by noticing a simple pattern: the same person can do something effortlessly in one context and feel totally stuck in another. We talk about what it means to meet or resist outer expectations (deadlines, other people) vs inner expectations (the promises you make to yourself)—and why that difference matters so much when you’re trying to declutter or keep up with everyday housework. You’ll hear why I’m an Obliger (and how outer accountability helped me grow my business), how to “speak someone’s language” instead of trying to force your system onto them, and why Rebels often feel trapped by routines—even the ones they choose. We also dig into something I’m obsessed with right now: the perfectionism/procrastination loop that keeps people stuck, and my approach to breaking through the roadblock so you can finally get momentum. We cover Obliger Rebellion—that moment when you’ve been giving and giving… and suddenly you go nuclear. If you’ve ever snapped, quit, cut someone off, or hit a breaking point that felt like it came out of nowhere, Gretchen’s explanation will make you feel seen (and give you a better way forward). If you’ve ever thought, “I know what to do . . . I just can’t make myself do it,” this is the episode you’ve been waiting for. Want to get organized? Mon, 06 Apr 2026 - 420 - Why Clutter Helps (and What to Do About It) | Clutterbug Podcast #319
Hey Clutterbugs! Today, I’m breaking down how your clutter is HELPING you. It's why clutter keeps coming back and why you feel stuck organizing (on top of ADHD, burnout, perfectionism, and overwhelm). If you’ve tried every organizing system and still can’t keep up, this episode will help you understand what your clutter is doing for you (other than making you feel bad about yourself). In this episode, I’m diving into teleology (don’t worry, you can forget the word after, and I can’t pronounce it either), which is just a fancy way of asking: What purpose is this mess serving right now? Because clutter isn’t random, sometimes it’s protecting you from decisions, emotions, conflict, perfectionism, or even visibility.I’ll walk you through the seven most common “jobs” clutter does (like decision freezing and identity preservation), then we’ll do a quick exercise to uncover what your own clutter is helping you with. Finally, I’ll give you practical replacement strategies, and one 10-minute action you can do in the next 24 hours to create real momentum. If you’re ready to stop the shame spiral and start using strategies that match your brain, let’s go! Mon, 30 Mar 2026 - 419 - Why Your Space Won't Stay Tidy (and The Fix) | Clutterbug Podcast #318
Hey Clutterbugs! Today, I’ll help you declutter, clear your kitchen counters, and build simple home organization systems that actually stay tidy. You’re not messy, you just organize differently! Together, we’ll find the system that fits your brain: I’ll show you how to read your clutter as feedback, and your life will change. In this episode, we’re getting super practical: we’re going to work backwards from your clutter to figure out why your house keeps getting messy, and what to change so it finally feels easier to maintain. We’ll talk about: - Why organization is not one-size-fits-all (and why “traditional” systems fail so many of us) - How to read the mess as feedback (not judgment) and “debug” your home - Building systems for your worst-day self, not your Pinterest best day - And the three biggest breakdowns that keep homes messy Want to get organized? Mon, 23 Mar 2026 - 418 - Japanese Organizing that WORKS (Even With ADHD) | Clutterbug Podcast #317
Hey Clutterbugs! Let’s stop making piles and use tiny 1% changes to organize our homes without overwhelm. In this podcast, we’re using Japanese organizing ideas (Kaizen, 5S, Wabi-Sabi, “Mottainai”) to declutter, build simple systems, and keep the house tidy longer. And we’re doing this together (not in a “make 47 piles and cry about it for 60 days” way). This is a mini‑challenge episode where you make tiny micro improvements while you listen . . . and end the podcast feeling weirdly proud of yourself. We’re talking:Kaizen: small steps that actually add up (especially for ADHD brains)Why pulling everything out is a trap (and what to do instead)The “don’t go on Amazon for bins” rule (you know who you are)The 5S system (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain) — Toyota vibes, but for your houseMottainai (“what a waste”): the guilt-free decluttering mindset shiftWabi-Sabi organizing: good‑enough systems that are easy to maintainLet’s get to it! Mon, 16 Mar 2026 - 417 - I Stopped Rescuing Everyone . . . and My House Got Better | Clutterbug Podcast #316
Hey Clutterbugs! People pleasing, mental load, and mom burnout are a direct route to clutter, resentment, and overwhelm. If you feel like you do everything (cleaning, chores, meals, schedules, emotional labor), I’m going to show you how to stop over-functioning so your kids and partner finally step up.Today, I’m talking with JoAnn Crohn (No Guilt Mom) about boundaries, emotional regulation, and why “it’s easier if I do it myself” is a little lie we tell ourselves.I also break down what people-pleasing looks like inside a home (rescuing, perfectionism, avoiding “nagging”), what it leads to, and how to build household systems that don’t depend on me, or you, doing everything. In this episode, you’ll learn: - How to spot people-pleasing at home (and why it creates clutter + burnout)- How to reduce the mental load and stop being the household manager- What boundaries actually sound like with kids and your spouse (and what to do when they push back)- Why letting your family struggle a little builds competence and confidence- JoAnn’s Lotus Framework + “mind-body-unicorn time” (so you have a life outside the house)- How to create home systems everyone can follow, not just you You can find more Clutterbug content here: Main YouTube Channel: @Clutterbug Website: http://www.clutterbug.me TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@clutterbug_me Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/clutterbug_me/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Clutterbug.Me/ For more from JoAnn: https://www.noguiltmom.com/ #PeoplePleasing #MentalLoad #MomBurnout #Boundaries #EmotionalLabor #Resentment #OverwhelmedMom #FamilyChores #HouseholdManagement #HomeOrganization #Decluttering #OrganizingTips #Clutterbug #EmotionalRegulation #NoGuiltMom Learn more about your ad choices. Mon, 09 Mar 2026 - 416 - Decluttering And Death: Cleaning Out My Grandma's Condo (What No One Tells You) | Clutterbug Podcast #315
Hey Clutterbugs! Decluttering after death, estate clean out reality, and how to deal with inherited clutter . . . today I’m sharing what it was really like to clear out my grandmother’s condo. But this matters before you find yourself in the situation I did too: the same “what’s important vs what’s just stuff?” problem is why our homes get cluttered, our decision fatigue skyrockets, and letting go feels impossible. Two years after my grandma passed, we did the final clear-out, and the shocking part was this: we didn’t know what mattered because we didn’t know the stories. Everything just looked like “stuff,” and it completely paralyzed us. I’m also joined by Nick Fox, the creator behind “millennial inheritance” videos where people share the wild things families are left to triage after a loved one passes. These are important conversations to have, and I’m hoping this podcast will give you a roadmap for doing so. We talk about:- Why estate cleanouts can take months (or years)- Grief + decision fatigue + guilt (and how to break the freeze)- The difference between value and meaning (hello, my chipped mug moment)- Legacy Lists (Matt Paxton’s idea): 5 items + the story behind them- Conversations to have now so your family isn’t left guessing later You can find more Clutterbug content here: Main YouTube Channel: @Clutterbug Website: http://www.clutterbug.me TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@clutterbug_me Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/clutterbug_me/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Clutterbug.Me/ And you can find Nick on all platforms @NickFoxRadio #clutterbug #podcast #declutter #clutter #decluttering #organization #minimalism #estatesale #inheritance #swedishdeathcleaning #sentimentalclutter #grief #NickFox #MillenialInheritance Learn more about your ad choices. Decluttering, home organization, and clutter psychology—organizing expert (and MY HERO!) Peter Walsh (Clean Sweep, Space Invaders) joins me to talk about why clutter isn’t about the stuff and how overconsumption keeps our homes overwhelmed. AND I tried to only fan girl a little bit!Peter shares what he’s learned after 20+ years of helping people and opening over 10,000 boxes of clutter on Space Invaders, including why real change comes from addressing the story behind the stuff—not buying better organizing products. We discuss: The link between clutter and consumption/coveting Why decluttering isn’t an event—it’s a mindset and process The key question: What do I want from my life, and what do I want from this room? Mon, 23 Feb 2026 - 414 - End Arguments Over Housework: Decluttering Systems that Reduce Resentment | Clutterbug Podcast #313
Hey Clutterbugs! Decluttering your home, reducing the mental load, and stopping fights about housework starts with better home organization systems and clearer communication. In today’s episode, I’m sharing practical decluttering tips, family organizing systems, and relationship communication tools to reduce resentment, so that you don’t need a “perfect” house, just one that supports you. Ever thought, “Why am I the only one who notices the mess?” This episode is for you. I’m breaking down the truth nobody says out loud: your home setup is often half the problem, and the other half is the way we talk about chores, clutter, and what we actually need underneath the tasks. I’m borrowing ideas from the Gottman Method (think “bids for connection” and why it’s never really about the dishes) and applying them to your home so you can reduce conflict, lower stress, and feel like a team again. We’ll do a quick “resentment brain dump,” figure out what’s a system problem vs a communication problem, and build simple, realistic solutions that work for your whole family. Mon, 16 Feb 2026 - 413 - How Owning LESS Means Loving MORE | Clutterbug Podcast #312
Hey Clutterbugs! Today, I’m speaking with Joshua Becker (Becoming Minimalist) about minimalism vs decluttering, the mental load of stuff, and how owning less can help you love more and make an impact in the world, while reducing overwhelm and creating a simpler home (all without chasing a minimalist aesthetic).Joshua shares the moment minimalism “clicked” for him: cleaning out the garage while his five-year-old son asked him to play—and realizing possessions weren’t just neutral . . . they were actively stealing his time, energy, and joy. We dig into the philosophy behind minimalism (hint: it’s not about a certain number of plates), the Becker Method for decluttering with momentum, and what to do when you’re stuck in guilt about donating, recycling, or throwing things away.We also talk about the “just-in-case” mindset, why keeping trash in your house doesn’t save it from the landfill, and the categories almost everyone has too much of—hello duplicates and clothes! Plus, Joshua opens up about his new book Uncluttered Faith, the spiritual benefits of owning less, and what it looks like when decluttering frees you up to help others for real. Mon, 09 Feb 2026 - 412 - Declutter, Decorate, and Design Your Dream Life | Clutterbug Podcast #311
Hey Clutterbugs! Today, Sabrina Soto and I are chatting decluttering, interior design tips, and intentional living hacks to create a home you’re proud of, without perfectionism, overwhelm, or a massive budget.Let’s make your home feel like a sanctuary, boost your self-esteem, and design a life that actually supports your nervous system. Sabrina’s origin story is WILD (yes, it starts with a burrito and ends with her finding an HGTV job on Craigslist at 4am), and it turns into the best reminder: you don’t have to be ready or perfect—you just have to start. We get into the real connection between your home and your life: how clutter drags your energy down, why “a clean home” isn’t vanity (it’s self-worth), and how small changes, like creating simple “vignettes,” setting up visual cue zones (smoothie bar, coffee bar, cleaning caddy, workout corner), and refreshing a space with a pillow or lamp—can change how you feel every single day. If you’ve ever felt embarrassed to have people over, overwhelmed by your kitchen, or like your bedroom is anything but a sanctuary, this one is for you. Mon, 02 Feb 2026 - 411 - It's NOT Laziness. Perfectionism is Keeping You Stuck. | Clutterbug Podcast #310
Hey Clutterbugs! Decluttering motivation, cleaning tips, and how to stop perfectionism paralysis—today I’m breaking down why you feel stuck in clutter and how to finally get your home organized. If you’re overwhelmed by mess, doom piles/doom boxes, clutter anxiety, or you keep procrastinating because it won’t be “perfect,” this episode will help you start (and finish) in just 5 minutes.Today we’re talking about radical exposure to “good enough” (aka doing it a little messy on purpose) so you can break the perfectionism cycle and actually make progress. Because “later, when I can do it right” is how clutter wins.I’m also sharing what happened during our Take Your House Back all-day declutter live… including the moment I totally hit a wall emotionally. But the real point of this episode isn’t the tears, it’s the breakthrough: the reason so many of us stay stuck isn’t laziness, it’s the fear of doing it wrong. I’m joined by the hilarious, wildly honest Anna Pryz (aka the “it’s called manifesting/vacuum lady”), and we get into what it looks like to choose boundaries and opt out of pressure, all while moving your life forward. We talk about the all-or-nothing mindset and why “do it shi**y” can be the most powerful mental health tool for perfectionists. Fri, 16 Jan 2026 - 408 - Declutter Like a Boss: Set Rules, Get Organized, Feel Lighter | Clutterbug Podcast #307
Hey Clutterbugs! It’s time for some decluttering motivation, organizing tips, and a step-by-step January roadmap so you can stop feeling behind and start taking action fast. Happy New Year, friends. Ready for a little tough love Cas (with love)? We’re not doing the “new year, new you” pressure spiral, and we are not making a giant, unrealistic plan for all of 2026. We’re using January as a container and focusing on one small doable decision that you can repeat—because that’s how real change sticks. I’m also introducing what I’m calling the Boss Rule. If you have to negotiate with an item—debate it, justify it, imagine a future version of you who finally fixes it, paints it, returns it, uses it, or finds the “perfect system”—that item is breaking the rule. You’re the CEO of your home. I’m sharing 46 life lessons that will help you get organized, stop feeling behind, and make decisions faster (without trying to become a whole new person). It’s my birthday, I did the math (yes, I’m actually 46), and I’m celebrating by handing you the stuff I wish I knew sooner—about confidence, perfectionism, money, boundaries, happiness, and why everything you own is work. We talk about how “good enough” beats perfect, why you can’t plan your way into progress, how tiny consistent steps matter more than big dramatic overhauls, and the truth nobody wants to hear: you probably won’t miss most of what you declutter—but you will regret what clutter has cost you. #happybirthday #gettingolder #wisdom #organization #decluttering #lifelessons #finances #planning #selfhelp Website: http://www.clutterbug.me YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@clutterbug TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@clutterbug_me Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/clutterbug_me/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Clutterbug.Me/ Learn more about your ad choices. Mon, 29 Dec 2025 - 406 - Unpacking Life: Organizing for All of Its Phases | Clutterbug Podcast #305
Hey Clutterbugs! Today is about decluttering tips and home organization systems to match your current season of life. If your life has changed but your home hasn’t, you’re probably feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and tempted to shop for “solutions” instead of update your systems. We’re going to talk about why your home isn’t a museum—it’s a living organism that has to evolve as you do. I walk you through the seasons of life (solo starter, early family/merging households, “city girl” single-income leveling up, school-age chaos, career sprint/burnout prevention, boomerang kids, empty nest feelings, and downsizing) and the exact shifts your home needs in each stage. We’ll cover how to identify your current “dominant energy,” how to declutter what no longer fits your life now, and how to build simple, low-friction systems so your home stops feeling like a part-time job. You’ll also hear my real talk on scarcity mindset, why “filling the space” too fast can lead to debt and clutter, how container limits protect your budget, and why every item you let go of gives you something you can’t buy: time. Plus, I’ll challenge you to declutter two guest-notice zones (bathroom + kitchen) so you can feel proud of your space immediately—especially with the holidays coming. #clutterbug #podcast #emptynest #starterhouse #decluttering #phasesoflife #seasonsoflife #planning #future Website: http://www.clutterbug.me YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@clutterbug TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@clutterbug_me Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/clutterbug_me/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Clutterbug.Me/ Learn more about your ad choices. Because embracing 'average'—yes, average—is actually the secret to freeing up your time, energy, and mental bandwidth for the things that really matter. I know, I know, the word 'average' doesn’t sound appealing. Nobody wants to feel mediocre, right? But here’s the truth—most of us waste so much energy trying to be ‘perfect’ at things that don’t actually move the needle forward in life. And when we focus on perfection, we burn ourselves out and have nothing left for the stuff that truly makes life extraordinary. In this episode, I’ll share why embracing 'good enough' in the areas that don’t matter—like household chores, decluttering, or even certain work tasks—can give you more time to focus on what does matter. I’ll also explain how taking shortcuts, like my ‘Do It Shitty’ method, can actually lead to more success, not less. Whether it’s cleaning your house, improving your career, or strengthening your relationships, I’ll show you where you can cut corners, save time, and still get things done without the stress of perfectionism holding you back. #clutterbug #podcast #mondaymotivation #motivation #mindsestshift #doitshitty Website: http://www.clutterbug.me YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@clutterbug TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@clutterbug_me Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/clutterbug_me/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Clutterbug.Me/ Learn more about your ad choices. We’ve been fed a huge lie — that the stuff in our storage rooms or storage units is worth money. It’s not! The truth is, your “storage treasures” are probably costing you thousands of dollars and stealing valuable space in your home. I’m sharing my own story of how I turned a cluttered storage room into a home office, added $15,000 of value to my house, and never missed a single thing I let go of. You’ll learn how to figure out what your storage is really costing you, the mindset traps that keep us holding on to stuff “just in case,” and my simple decluttering rules to help you decide what’s actually worth keeping. I also talk about why “preservation becomes paralysis” — and how freeing yourself from storage clutter can literally give you more time, money, and peace of mind. Mon, 22 Sep 2025 - 392 - Why Organization Beats Design Every Time with Carrie Locklyn | Clutterbug Podcast # 291
In this episode, I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with Carrie Locklyn—a woman whose journey is as inspiring as it is entertaining. From her early days as a backup dancer for Mariah Carey (yes, you heard that right!) to touring the world with iconic stars, Carrie’s story is one of fearless reinvention. We dove into the real, unglamorous side of life on TV—talking about everything from lugging boxes in messy hotel rooms to finding beauty in the chaos of decluttering. Carrie’s down-to-earth approach, her knack for mixing humor with practical advice, and the way she champions taking risks, even if it means failing spectacularly, truly resonated with me. I was especially struck by how she balances the art and science of organizing—turning everyday clutter into a canvas for a soulful, personal space. Mon, 03 Mar 2025 - 363 - Get It Together with Cas: The Tough Love Edition | Clutterbug Podcast # 262
Buckle up, Buttercup, because today we’re talking tough love and small steps to BIG changes and create instant motivation. We’re going to tackle how to get your life together without feeling like you’re climbing Mount Everest - I’m sharing my favourite shortcuts and hacks that have seriously changed my life. Sound good? Let’s dive right in! Give Yourself a Reality Check - “NO ONE IS COMING TO RESCUE YOU”. We have the home, (body, relationship, finances etc) that we are willing to put up with. Don’t like where you are right now? Change it. Only you have the empower, so put on that cape and save your own damn self. Break Big Goals into 5-Minute Goals - Micro Commitments are the secret. Train your brain to stop the “all or nothing” mentality by focusing on tiny 5-minute tasks. Daily Brain Dump - Every morning write down all the things you want to get done and then circle the top three. Out of those top three, star the ONE that is NON-NEGOTIABLE and must get done that day. Try Hypnosis! I’m using an app called Kure and it’s been helpful! Change your brain just by listening. Create a Vision Board - Pick a few goals and dreams (make sure they are in the realm of possibility) and create a daily visual reminder! I have a FREE vision board template here: https://clutterbug.me/products/digital-vision-board-templates Get an Accountability Buddy! Schedule a weekly date through Zoom, a phone call or an in-person meeting and body double with someone while you get stuff done together! Get in a Win before 10:00am - Do a small thing that feels like an accomplishment before 10:00 am - Examples: Make your bed, write a to-do list, stretch for 10 minutes. Habit Stacking - Do a new tiny habit at the same time as you do an old habit - Example: Write a daily to-do list while your morning coffee brews or take your vitamins when you brush your teeth. Make a Power Playlist - Make a playlist with all the songs that fire you up! Borrow Motivation - Watch and listen to FIRED UP people and borrow some of their passion and fierce motivation. Here is a good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4KsEUiw3gA Nightly Gratitude Journal - I know…don’t roll your eyes, just try it. But don’t worry—we’re not staying stuck. We’ll talk about tiny, doable steps to get your zest back, from embracing small daily victories (hello, clean kitchen sink!) to sneakily scheduling in those guilt-free moments of “me time.” If you’ve been searching for a spark to reignite your excitement about what’s on the horizon, this episode is your matchstick.
