Wed, 23 Sep 2026 - 124 - Be The Top 1%: Two Simple Moves Every Founder Must Make
If you are still pitching with your experience and portfolio, you need to listen to this episode. I had a crazy experience the other day. I posted on LinkedIn asking for help writing some case studies, and I was inundated with DM's. What blew my mind was that not a single person led with any value. They all just shared their experience and portfolio. In 2026, this only gets you drowned out in the noise. It won't win high-value clients, and you are probably leaving thousands on the table. Instead, you must lead with value and insight. The right clients have more money than time; they won’t DIY; they’ll pay for someone who’s showing how it’s done. You must give away your best ideas and thinking before you pitch I break down the exact approach in this episode and what I would have done differently. Wed, 16 Sep 2026 - 123 - Stop sending proposals - do this instead
Do you remember the feeling of sending the proposal and then patiently waiting to see if you won the project? What if you never had to feel like that again, and there was a better way... In this episode, I break down why PDF proposals lose projects and what to do instead. I talk about framing, uncovering the real objections and moving people from "let me think about it" to "When do we start?" You can also grab a copy of my One Page Sales Framework which has been used by hundreds of creative founders to close more deals and raise prices.Send me a message on LinkedIn and I will send you a copy back
Wed, 09 Sep 2026 - 122 - Finally Eliminate Procrastination By Making Friends With Your Inner Child
What would it be like if you could eliminate procrastination by improving the relationship with your inner child? Sounds like a strange concept right? That's exactly what happened to Lucio in this session. This episode pulls back the curtain on a real coaching session. What starts as business stress quickly becomes something deeper: a childhood wound, a lonely 6‑year‑old, and a surprisingly simple way to reconnect that unlocks confidence and better decisions. It’s honest, intimate, and practical. You’ll hear the moment Lucio meets that younger part of himself, the 5‑minute practice he commits to, and how a week later things have already shifted. Stick around; this one feels like a chat with a friend that actually helps.Connect with Lucio on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/lucio-di-giacinti/ Connect with Matt on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattessam/ Apply to work with me 1:1: https://social.mattessam.co.uk/coaching
Wed, 02 Sep 2026 - 121 - Stop playing it safe and unlock your true potential
If you’ve ever found yourself choosing the "safe" path over the one you really want to pursue, this episode is for you. I break down why security is actually an illusion and how to avoid falling into the trap. I've personally found that the energy you bring to what you do, is far more important than what you actually do. When you choose work that lights you up, you’ll find that challenges are just temporary obstacles and opportunities show up in unexpected ways. Consider this episode a gentle nudge to re-examine the choices you’re making: are you chasing security, or are you chasing something that lets you show up fully alive? A small but courageous decision can change everything.I would love to know what you think of this episode. Wed, 19 Aug 2026 - 119 - How to find out what really makes you happy
Humans are terrible at predicting what will actually make them happy. So how do we avoid wasting years of our life chasing things that won't give us what we are actually looking for. Today I'm breaking down "goal renting", which involves deliberately testing a goal in real life before committing years of sacrifice to it. I walk through my own experiment as well as many other examples. Ultimately closing the the gap between what you think you want and what you actually want. You'll learn: Why stress-testing a goal beats logically reasoning your way to it How to compress the time between clarity and experience A simple framework for testing big life goals (more free time, relocating, buying property) in weeks instead of years Why the people who already have what you want are your best and most honest source of information How I reward myself along the way to a long-term goal, instead of only at the finish line Whether you're craving more time, eyeing a lifestyle change, or just chasing a goal you've never actually tested, this episode gives you a practical way to find out if it's really what you want. Wed, 12 Aug 2026 - 118 - Whose Permission Are You Waiting For?
If you’ve ever felt stuck in your business or life and didn’t know why, this episode might be worth a listen. This week I threw thousands of hours of coaching calls into Claude and one common pattern came up...The one thing that keeps most founders stuck is waiting for permission. Most of us know what to do but we have subconscious patterns that keep us stuck, often waiting for permission from someone that isn't even around anymore. These patterns can show up in your pricing, your sales calls and even your positioning. In this episode I explore how to spot the patterns and break them once and for all. Whose permission are you still waiting for? This episode is a warm invite to look inward, update your script, and get out of your own way so you can do the work you actually want to do.Please hit the subscribe button if you found this useful and share it with a friend.

Wed, 15 Apr 2026 - 113 - Are You Undercharging? Use This Number To Find Out…
It might feel like you’re charging the right amount. Your close rate is good. The business is running smoothly. But what if you could charge more without increasing your hours? Most creative business owners wouldn’t say no to that. And there’s a number most creative founders are missing that can easily tell them whether or not they’re undercharging. In this episode, I share what that number is and how you can apply it. If you’re consistently winning work but you feel too busy, or want to find out if you’re leaving money on the table, this is for you. Covered in this episode: The number that tells you if you’re undercharging. What a healthy close rate looks like. Why a high close rate can actually be a red flag. Wed, 08 Apr 2026 - 112 - Uncovering The Hidden Patterns Holding You Back with Kristy Campbell
Most creative founders think their business needs them to survive. That if they step away, everything will slow down or fall apart. But what if the opposite is true? In this episode, I’m joined by Kristy Campbell, Founder of Pink Pony Creative. Kristy has built a social media following of hundreds of thousands. But what makes this conversation interesting isn’t just what Kristy has built, it’s how she’s been able to step away from the business and keep it growing. We unpack what happened when Kristy took time away from her business after having a baby and how the business and her following continued to grow without her. We also have a mini coaching session, where I help Kristy uncover some of the hidden patterns and limiting beliefs that hold many creatives back. If you’ve ever felt like your business depends too much on you, or you feel stuck in ways that you can’t quite explain, this episode will help you see what’s really going on. Covered in this episode: Why creative business owners find it so difficult to step away from the delivery. How Kristy’s business continued to grow while she took time off. How to maintain a steady stream of content. What creatives get wrong with social media that limits growth. The strategy behind Kristy growing an audience of over 300k. Wed, 01 Apr 2026 - 111 - Scarcity Mode vs. Opportunity Mode - Which One Are You In?
As a creative business owner, it can feel like there’s a lack of opportunities out there. Like you’ve exhausted all possibilities, or, people “just aren’t buying at the moment”. But often, the opportunities are there, we’re just not in the right mindset to see them. We’re in ‘scarcity mode’, rather than ‘opportunity mode’. And when we’re in scarcity mode, our brain switches to fight or flight. We make defensive decisions and we stop seeing opportunities that are right in front of us. In this episode, I break down the difference between scarcity mode and opportunity mode, how scarcity damages your sales and creativity and the practical steps you can take to shift your thinking when panic starts creeping in. Because once you learn to recognise it, you’ll start seeing opportunities showing up everywhere. And you’re more likely to land them when they do. Covered in this episode: The difference between “scarcity mode” and “opportunity mode”. Why scarcity thinking leads to bad business decisions. How panic harms creativity. The real reason many creatives stay stuck in a feast and famine cycle. Techniques to pull yourself out of scarcity mode. Why more opportunities exist around you than you think. Wed, 25 Mar 2026 - 110 - How To Stop Fear and Scarcity From Running Your Business with Sebastian Bates
After a serious BASE jumping accident that shattered both his legs, doctors told Sebastian Bates he may never walk again. During Seb’s 2 years of rehab, he lost 15 of his close friends, leaving him with PTSD and major survivors’ guilt. This is one of the most fascinating conversations I’ve had on this podcast (back in 2024), so I wanted to share it again for anyone who hasn’t heard it. After a journey of personal development, Seb is now the founder of Warrior Academy, the largest martial arts academy in the Middle East. Seb teaches thousands of kids worldwide while leading a team of 100. Seb has also built several other six-figure businesses and founded a charitable organisation that’s doing incredible things for disadvantaged children globally. Seb shares fundamental principles of courage and resilience that are transformative for creative business owners. If you want to overcome imposter syndrome, develop resilience, and break through the barriers holding their business back, this episode is for you. Covered in this episode: How a near-fatal accident shaped Sebastian’s journey. Why courage is the most critical trait for success and how to get more of it. Practical exercises to overcome fear and replace anxiety with excitement. The impact of a scarcity mindset on creativity and how to break free from it. How to leave your comfort zone without becoming overwhelmed and burnt out. The biggest mistakes leading to fear-based decision-making and how to avoid them. Wed, 18 Mar 2026 - 109 - Why Your Clients Are Killing Your Business
Your clients are slowly killing your creative business. Not the market. Not the algorithm. I recently ran a poll asking creative business owners what their biggest frustration is. Over 60% said inconsistent income and project flow. The feast and famine cycle. But the truth is that this usually isn’t caused by the quality of your work or how much promotion you’re doing. The difference between studios that are constantly busy and those that struggle for work comes down to the way they perceive their clients. In this episode, I break down the shifts that separates oversubscribed creative businesses from those scrambling for the next project. If you’re tired of taking on poor-fit projects just to keep cash flowing, and you’d rather build a business where you’re inundated with enquiries, this episode will show you the mindset shifts you need to make. Covered in this episode: Why inconsistent income usually isn’t a marketing problem. The difference between “feast and famine” studios and consistently busy ones. The two major problems your current client dynamic is creating. How to spot a toxic client relationship. When to say no to clients. What it takes to run a business that gets to pick and choose opportunities. Wed, 11 Mar 2026 - 108 - The ‘4 Ps’ Strategy That Will Future-Proof Your Creative Business
Does business feel a bit slow at the moment? You’ve got the portfolio, but enquiries and referrals aren’t coming in like they used to. And with AI rapidly evolving, a lot of creatives are asking themselves if things are only going to get worse. In this episode, I break down the shift I believe every creative business owner needs to make if they want to stay relevant, profitable and in demand over the next 5–10 years. Most studios aren’t struggling because their work isn’t good enough, they’re struggling because of how they’re positioned. And that positioning is turning them into commodities. I walk you through the “4 Ps of Power Positioning” that will make you irreplaceable. I’ve seen this work for so many creative business owners. So, if business is feeling slow, or you’re earning less than you should be, this is for you. Covered in this episode: Why business feels slow right now. The positioning mistakes struggling studios are making. The ‘4 Ps’ that keep businesses relevant and growing. What AI can’t replace. Myths around niching. How to avoid pricing ceilings. Wed, 04 Mar 2026 - 107 - How To Become The Go-To Expert In Your Industry with Sabrina Stocker
You do great work. You have all the case studies and testimonials. But you still feel invisible. This is a problem most creative founders face. They want to be seen as the go-to expert. The name that gets mentioned in rooms they’re not even in. But instead, they’re constantly chasing projects and wondering why people with less experience are getting all the attention. In this episode, I sit down with Sabrina Stocker, serial entrepreneur, Founder of Two Comma PR and former Apprentice candidate, to unpack what it takes to build visibility and authority as a creative. Sabrina has built a powerful personal brand, spoken on some of the UK’s biggest stages and grown an audience of over 50,000 followers. We explore the strategies and mindset shifts that separate leading authorities from talented but overlooked creatives, and how to position yourself so the right people start coming to you. If you feel undervalued and overlooked, this episode will change the way you think about authority and how to build it. Covered in this episode: The 3 steps to becoming the go-to expert in your industry. Why creatives should pay attention to AEO. How to go from visibility to paying clients. What most creatives get wrong about their offering. How to build relationships and get into the right rooms. How Sabrina has been able to speak on some of the UK’s biggest stages. Wed, 25 Feb 2026 - 106 - Scaling A Business Without Losing Your Creativity with Sam Ramsden
Most creative founders don’t struggle because their work isn’t good enough. They struggle because the business they’ve built, or the role that they play within that business, isn’t right for them. In this episode, I’m joined by Sam Ramsden, Founder of film production studio, Dojo Films. Sam has been employed in the creative industry, he’s freelanced, and now he’s running an agency. But throughout his journey, Sam has found that success on paper doesn’t automatically mean fulfilment. We dive deep into the shifts that Sam had to make within his business to allow him to do more of the work that he loves, while still scaling. If you’ve ever found yourself losing the creativity that made you start your business in the first place, this conversation is for you. Covered in this episode: How Sam built a film production studio working across 16 countries remotely. Can creativity truly be standardised? How niching can allow a business to be more creative. Choosing the role within your business that’s right for you. Agency vs one-person studio and when each model makes sense. When giving work away for free can make you more money. Wed, 18 Feb 2026 - 105 - Why An “Authentic Brand” Doesn’t Exist with James Martin
“Be authentic.” You hear it all the time in the branding space. But what if authenticity wasn’t actually possible? In this episode, I’m joined by James Martin (Made By James) for a very different kind of conversation. We dive into the idea of why “authenticity” when it comes to branding is misleading, why so many creatives end up bored of their businesses, the shifts happening in the creative industry and a whole lot more. You’re either going to love this conversation, or hate it. And if you’re a James Martin fan, and want to hear him take the p*ss out of me, you’ll probably love it. Covered in this episode: Why “authentic” brands don’t exist. Evidence vs. perception and why you need both. Why followers don’t equal success. What a brand really is. Wed, 11 Feb 2026 - 104 - You’re Paying Too Much Tax (Here’s How To Fix It) with Pali Banwait
You’re probably paying more tax than you need to. And for a lot of creative business owners, that extra tax can become a real burden and slow down growth. In this episode, I’m joined by Pali Banwait, who shares some advice on how you can avoid paying more tax than you should be paying. But our conversation goes a lot deeper than tax. Pali is the founder of Strive, which helps entrepreneurs set up businesses in Dubai and he’s also founded and invested in many other businesses over the last 20 years, which has given him a unique perspective on what makes a business thrive. Wed, 04 Feb 2026 - 103 - The VA Mistakes Most Founders Are Making with Richard Woods
Business is hard. With delivery, sales, marketing, and everything in between, there’s too much to do, and not enough time to do it. That’s why I tell creative studio owners that the first hire they should make is a virtual assistant. And in this episode, I’m joined by Richard Woods - a three-time bestselling author, serial founder, and finalist on The Apprentice - to dive deep into how to leverage VAs to scale twice as fast. Richard runs Million Dollar Sprint, where he helps small businesses get to a million dollars as well as Sprint VA, a global virtual assistant business with nearly 200 people. If you don’t have a VA yet, this will help you figure out what to look for and where to start. And if you already do, you’ll learn how to stop managing them so closely and get hours back each week. Covered in this episode: Why most creative business owners wait too long to hire a VA. How to find the right VA. The first task you should outsource in your business. The common mistakes that cause outsourcing to fail. Management strategies for those who hate managing people. How to know when a team member isn’t working out. What will separate businesses from the rest in 2026. Wed, 28 Jan 2026 - 102 - What Creatives Get Wrong About Content with Chris Do
Should you be creating content? It feels like everywhere we turn, we’re being told we need to regularly pump out content to attract more clients. And yet many creatives I talk to feel stuck when it comes to content. They overthink it. Or they post a couple of times and they decide it’s not for them. But the reality is that most creatives don’t have a content problem. They have a clarity problem. In this 100th episode of Creative Courage, Chris Do returns for a conversation that goes way deeper than ‘how to get more followers’. We talk about what people are missing when it comes to content, the first mistakes people make, why so much content gets ignored, and what stops people from sticking around. We didn’t agree on everything… which made this one of the most valuable conversations I’ve had in a long time. Covered in this episode: Should every creative business owner be making content? The first content mistakes most people make. How to overcome the internal blockers that stop you posting. What really makes people buy (and what doesn’t). Why there’s more to content than marketing. The missing “thread” in most content. Wed, 21 Jan 2026 - 101 - Freelance vs Agency: Which Model Gives You More Freedom? with Shoaib Ahmed
Should you run your business solo? Or is it better to build an agency? It’s a question I hear often from creative business owners. You started your business for more freedom and flexibility. But somewhere along the way, things changed, and you end up with less freedom than you’d get from a 9 to 5 job. In this episode, I’m joined by Shoaib Ahmed, who’s lived the agency life, and as a solopreneur. He built an agency doing £30k months with a full team, but realised he could never truly switch off. So he burnt it down and went all in on his freelance business, where he specialises in helping people build their personal brand. We break down the trade-offs between staying solo and building an agency and how to find real freedom in your business. If you’ve ever felt torn between scaling up and simplifying, this is for you. Covered in this episode: The symptoms you’re building the wrong size business. The ‘freedom trap’ most creatives fall into. How to make a solo business work without doing everything yourself. What people never measure when they talk about freedom. How to structure your business so you can take time off. The one thing more important than client acquisition that most creatives miss. How to build trust and win business without constant outreach. What most LinkedIn content gets wrong. How to know when it’s time to change your business. Wed, 14 Jan 2026 - 100 - The 3-Step System For Getting Sh*t Done in 2026
If you want 2026 to be a 10/10 year, you don’t need resolutions. And you don’t need SMART goals. In 2025, I wrote a book, hit 100 podcast episodes and launched a new coaching programme, all while running my multiple six-figure coaching business (and still took two months off). And in this episode, I’m sharing the 3-step process I followed to make this happen. This is the same process I use with my clients to turn vague intentions into measurable results. If you want 2026 to be a year you can look back on and be proud of, this episode will give you the exact framework to make that happen. Covered in this episode: Why goals often fail. How to get clear on what you actually want. Mapping out the exact actions you need to take next year. How to keep yourself from giving up on your goals halfway through the year. Why SMART goals don’t work for most creatives and what to use instead. Why it’s easier to show up for clients than for yourself and how to fix it. Wed, 07 Jan 2026 - 99 - Are You Building The Wrong Business For Your Personality Type?
Most creatives see stress and burnout as a time-management problem. Or a team problem. So they hire more people. They implement new systems. But nothing changes. And if you find yourself burning out regularly, you’re probably looking in the wrong place for an answer. Stress can completely break your creativity. And if you’re like me, you probably compare yourself to the Hormozis and Bartletts of the world, wondering why you can’t handle stress and pressure like they can. But what I’ve come to understand is that not all personalities are built to handle stress in the same way. Yet so many of us are modelling our lives and businesses on these serial entrepreneurs who are wired completely differently. In this episode, we dive into why this is dangerous for your business, and how to build a business that works for you. Covered in this episode: Why stress shuts down creativity. How different personalities process pressure and why it matters. Why comparing yourself to other entrepreneurs is burning you out. Wed, 17 Dec 2025 - 98 - AI Will Make Creatives Invisible Unless They Do THIS with Paul Fernandez
Most creative businesses aren’t struggling because they’re not good enough. They’re struggling because they’re invisible. And in a world where AI can produce decent deliverables in seconds, visibility is becoming the difference between the businesses that grow and the ones that get left behind. In this episode, I’m joined by Paul Fernandez, Co-Founder of The Growth Guys and Social Pitch AI. We unpack the truth behind what exactly creative businesses need in order to stay relevant. If you’ve been feeling shift in the creative industry, this conversation will give you the clarity you need to stay one step ahead. Covered in this episode: How to stay relevant with AI replacing creative work. The real reason creative experts are going unnoticed and how to fix it. Why “know, like and trust” isn’t enough anymore. How “unconscious incompetence” silently limits your growth. Will AI replace creative jobs? How to use AI in a way that builds trust instead of eroding it. Wed, 10 Dec 2025 - 97 - Why Fun Is The Secret Advantage And How To Get It Back with Adam Faulkner
Are you having fun running your business? I’ve asked myself this question in the past and the answer hasn’t always been yes. A lot of creative business owners hit a point where their business is ‘working’, but it’s boring. And that boredom drains the energy from their business. In this episode, I’m joined by Adam Faulkner. Adam has been running a successful video production agency for over five years, but he reached a point where business became boring, and he knew that something had to change. Adam changed direction with his business and content and attracted the attention of a talent agent, and when he did, he started opening doors he never expected. We dig into why fun is more than a “nice to have” and how it can become the compass for your business. So, if you’ve been feeling bored, stuck or like you’re playing it too safe with your business, this is for you. Covered in this episode: Why fun might be the most underrated business advantage you’re ignoring. How avoiding being overly strategic can actually help your business. How Adam got picked up by a talent agent. Why authenticity doesn’t need to mean oversharing. The real reason content doesn’t stick. Why ‘showing up consistently’ isn’t enough anymore. Wed, 19 Nov 2025 - 94 - The Blueprint For Landing Huge Clients Like Pepsi & Cadbury with Simon Forster
In a crowded market, many studios are leaning on awards they’ve won to stand out. Or they find themselves pitching against a dozen other agencies. But Simon Forster decided to do neither of those things with his branding agency, Robot Food, and has still landed huge global brands like Pepsi, Cadbury and Carlsberg. Not because they’re the biggest. Nor the cheapest. But because they’ve garnered trust and focused on the right things. And in this episode, Simon breaks down the real reasons global brands choose one studio over another and the strategies that creatives need to consider if they want to play at that level. If you want to be the studio that big brands pick, this is for you. Covered in this episode: How to get big corporates to trust you. The hidden factors that matter far more than creative output. Wed, 12 Nov 2025 - 93 - The 3 Steps To Turning Rejections Into Fuel For Your Business
I’ve lost count of how many rejections I’ve collected in my business and life over the years. From no’s to appearing on podcasts, to no’s from prospects. I imagine you’ve collected a few yourself. And it can hurt. Almost like they’re rejecting YOU. But what I’ve realised is that the amount of rejection that someone faces is in direct proportion to what they’re able to achieve in life. In this episode, I share the 3-step process I use to reframe rejection and transform it into valuable feedback that helps you get more of what you want. If you find dealing with rejection draining, or that you hold back from ever asking out of fear of rejection, this is for you. Covered in this episode: Why rejection is required for success. Wed, 05 Nov 2025 - 92 - The Real Reason Your Portfolio Isn’t Attracting Clients
Many creatives spend hours polishing their portfolios, yet still struggle to attract the kinds of clients they feel they deserve. And that’s when the self doubt starts to creep in. But it’s not because your work isn’t good enough. It’s because most portfolios are built with the wrong mindset. I’ve seen award-winning designers get overlooked, while others with less polished work get taken more seriously, because they’re making this one mistake. In this episode, I break down the portfolio mistake that’s quietly costing you opportunities and the 3-step process to fix it. Wed, 29 Oct 2025 - 91 - Do You Need A Personal Brand To Build A Successful Business?
It feels like everywhere you look online, content creators and influencers are telling business owners they need to build a personal brand. But there are thousands of successful businesses without personal brands behind them, so why does everyone talk about personal branding like it’s essential? In this week’s episode, I’m taking you behind the scenes on my own personal branding journey. I recently had with Chris Do (The Futur), where we got into the truth about what personal branding really means and at what point should creatives consider building theirs. I also share insights from another conversation I had with James Martin (Made By James), who had a very different take, that might make you rethink how you see personal branding. If you’ve ever felt conflicted, or unclear about personal branding, this episode will help you find an approach that works for you. Covered in this episode: What is a personal brand? Wed, 15 Oct 2025 - 89 - The Hidden Reason You’re Not Satisfied With Your Business
Do you ever feel like there’s something missing from your life or business? If so, you’re not alone. But what you think is missing might not give you the satisfaction you’re after once you get it. A lot of my clients tell me that they want more clients or they want to reach a certain financial goal. But what they’re chasing is the vehicle, and even once they reach it, they still don’t feel satisfied. In this episode, I share an exercise I walk my clients through to uncover what truly matters. As we move into the last quarter of the year, I want to help you to achieve any outstanding goals you’ve set before the year ends. I’m going to run you through a process that I do with my clients every 90 days, to discover what is and isn’t working, to give you more clarity and help you keep up the momentum. Wed, 17 Sep 2025 - 85 - It Was The Trip From Hell - Until I Realised THIS
Have you ever made a choice that felt right in the moment, only to realise it was the decision from hell? That was me recently. I flew to Amsterdam, dropped $2,000 on a Mindvalley ticket, and instantly started regretting it. Instead of enjoying the experience, I found myself frustrated that I’d wasted the money and beating myself up for not making the most of it. But then something shifted. I was able to reframe the whole trip and turn what felt like a mistake into something valuable. In this episode, I break down how you can do the same, so you can transform bad decisions into powerful lessons. You’ll learn how to make choices that align with your values, so no matter what the outcome looks like, it doesn’t have to come with a side of regret. In this episode, I break down why pricing isn’t about the number, it’s about how prospects perceive the value you deliver. And I share how to completely change your prospects’ mindset around how much your service is worth, so you can double, triple, or even quadruple your rates without losing business. Covered in this episode: The real reason prospects say no. How to reframe value so a higher price makes sense. Why asking for a prospect’s budget NEVER works. There’s a fundamental shift happening in the creative industry, and it’s changing how we find and attract clients. In this episode, I share with you the best way of fast-tracking your way to trust with your ideal clients, so you can reliably and predictably grow your studio. Wed, 18 Jun 2025 - 72 - Never Worry About Competitors Again Using THIS Strategy
Losing a project to a competitor can be gutting. You know your work is good. You know you can solve the client’s problem. But for some reason, they picked someone else. I’ve been there. Back when I ran my creative studio, I’d come across competitors with great work - sometimes even better than ours - often charging less. And I’d wonder why a client would choose us over other studios. I was assuming clients only cared about the work. But I was wrong. And in this episode, I’m sharing what really matters when it comes to winning clients. It’s a strategy I call ‘The River of Life’, and it’s going to help you cut through the noise, make the competition irrelevant, and charge what you’re really worth. There’s a hidden force stopping creatives from making more sales and landing bigger deals - it’s called your shadow. Wed, 02 Apr 2025 - 60 - THIS Is Stopping You From Making More Money
Let’s talk about money. I’ve heard from so many creative business owners that “it’s not all about the money”. And that more money will only create more stress. But money gives you freedom, space, and the ability to better serve your clients. Like one of my clients Cey, who was able to release a feature film in cinemas after changing his perspective around money. If you’re struggling to attract the income you want, it may come down to the way you think about money. In this episode, I break down some of the most common limiting beliefs around money and share practical ways to shift your mindset and increase your income - without adding more stress. Covered in this episode: The hidden ways your mindset around money is keeping you from earning more. How money can allow you to do more impactful work. Why making more money doesn’t have to mean more hours and stress. How to 10x your prices without 10x the skill. The decisions that separate struggling creatives from those who thrive. Wed, 26 Mar 2025 - 59 - How To Become The Top 1% of Creative Businesses
There’s a point in every creative business owner’s journey where they feel stuck. You’ve built a strong portfolio, won some awards, but something still feels missing and growth has slowed. In this episode, I’m sharing a concept that I cover in my new book that I’m currently writing - a phenomenon that I call ‘The Talent Limit’. After speaking with and coaching countless creative business owners over the past few years, I’ve found that a common cause of these symptoms is that they are focusing mainly on their creative skillset. But once you’ve reached the top 10% in your industry, skill alone won’t get you into the top 1%. If attracting dream clients feels harder than ever, if you’re questioning your value, or if your business still relies too much on you, this episode will reveal the three key shifts you need to make. Covered in this episode: Why being exceptional at what you do is no longer enough. The common mistake that keeps talented creatives stuck. The shift that separates the top 1% agencies from everyone else. The three areas you need to focus on to break through The Talent Limit. Many creative business owners get stuck for the same reason… They’re focusing on too many things at once. But the most successful entrepreneurs don’t do everything. I saw first hand what separates those who scale effortlessly from those who stay stuck. If you feel stuck in your business and unsure where to place your focus, this episode will give you the clarity you need to break through. Wed, 08 Jan 2025 - 48 - The Secret To Making Better Decisions in 2025
If you’ve been running your business for a while, deep down, you probably know what you need to do to grow faster and make more money. Over the past decade, I’ve coached some of the world’s leading creatives, and often they’re coming to me for permission, rather than answers. They know they shouldn’t have taken on that client or hired that team member. So what stops them from trusting their intuition? Fear. Their intuition is trying to steer them in the right direction, but fear and other external factors are holding them back. In this episode, I’m diving deep into the power of intuition, why it’s crucial for creative business owners, and how to start trusting yourself so you can make better decisions. If you ever struggle to take the steps you know are right for your business, this episode is for you. In this episode, we cover: What intuition is and why it’s so vital for decision-making in your business. The reasons people ignore their intuition. Why it’s so difficult to say no to opportunities that aren’t right for us. How to find the courage to trust yourself. The emotional patterns keeping you stuck and how to break free from them. Dan shares a ton of insight on how to identify the hidden problems in your business, make bold but necessary changes, and redefine success in a way that aligns with you. In this episode, we cover: How to know when your business is out of alignment. What to do if you’re running a business you don’t love anymore. Wed, 18 Dec 2024 - 45 - ONLY Work With THESE Types Of Clients
Not all clients are created equal. When I used to run my web design and marketing agency, I would work with just about any client who had the budget. But after working with them, some clients would make amazing leaps which would transform their businesses, and some got no results at all. So, what was the difference? And if you can deliver the exact same service to two different clients and get paid the same, why does it matter what they do with what you’ve created for them after? If you take on too many clients who aren’t getting the results they set out to get, I guarantee you that it’ll come back to bite you in the form of a damaged reputation, and a lack of growth. In this episode, I’m going to share a strategy that will help you to understand exactly what kinds of clients you should be taking on. The kinds of clients that will value what you do, achieve the results they were after and ultimately elevate your brand recognition, so you can grow your business faster and take on higher paying clients. You’ll learn how to qualify leads beyond just their budget and discover why saying no to misaligned clients (even high-paying ones) can protect your business in the long run. In this episode, we cover: Why some clients thrive after you’ve worked with them and others don’t. Why working with the wrong clients can harm your business (even if they have a big budget). How to spot the attributes that determine ‘perfect fit’ clients. How aligning with the right clients builds your brand’s reputation in the market. Wed, 11 Dec 2024 - 44 - The Hidden Indicators Of Success You NEED To Pay Attention To
Most creative business owners are measuring success the wrong way. It’s easy to get caught up in only measuring tangible outputs like how much revenue you’ve taken each month or how your team is performing. But what happens when you spend hours and hours on business development and those results don’t immediately show up? Does that mean you haven’t been successful? This fixation on the outputs is causing many creative business owners to feel stuck and demotivated because they’re overlooking the real indicators of success. The hidden indicators that, with consistency, would bring them inevitable results. In this episode, I’m going to help you to reframe how you view success. You’ll learn how to spot hidden signs of progress, so you can stay motivated and keep growing your business - even when the big wins don’t show up immediately. Covered in this episode: Why focusing solely on the tangible outputs can stall growth. How to identify and celebrate the ‘invisible’ success indicators. The key inputs you need to focus on to make reaching your targets inevitable. How consistency and celebrating small wins can transform your business. Why many creative business owners are taking their foot off the accelerator too quickly and missing out on success. Real-life examples of how inputs have led to major breakthroughs for my clients. Wed, 04 Dec 2024 - 43 - Unlock Hidden Revenue Opportunities From Existing Clients With THIS Strategy
What would it be like if you could grow your creative business without having to find new clients? That’s exactly what the ‘realignment process’ can do for you. In this episode, I’m breaking down the powerful strategy I've been using with my coaching clients to raise prices and increase profits without signing any new business. Most creative agencies rely on repeat clients, but the stream of work can be inconsistent and it makes increasing prices difficult. By using the realignment strategy, you’ll be able to consistently deliver value, position yourself as an expert (not just a worker), and strengthen your client relationships, while breaking free from legacy pricing. If you’re not regularly realigning with your clients, relationships can easily fall out of sync. And if you’re like most creatives, most of your conversations with clients happen over email and are focused purely on projects. But if you want to unlock hidden opportunities and keep clients coming back, realignment is essential. Covered in this episode: How realigning with your clients is essential to growing your creative business. How to pitch the idea of realignment calls to clients so that they’re excited to be involved. Structuring the four elements of a realignment call. How to deliver value that positions you as an essential partner, not just a 'nice to have'. Ways of getting valuable feedback and uncovering new opportunities during realignment conversations. Why giving away your best ideas for free can actually drive more business. Wed, 27 Nov 2024 - 42 - The 4 Seasons of Business Every Creative Business Owner Needs to Understand
What season of business are you currently in? This is one of the most important questions you can ask yourself as a creative studio owner. I used to believe that there were good times and bad times in business, but what I came to realise is that these are just ‘seasons’. And like the seasons in nature, by understanding them and preparing for their arrival, you can weather the worst storms and benefit the most when the sun is shining. In this week’s episode of the Creative Courage podcast, I unpack the four seasons of business, and how each one impacts your projects, clients, and mindset. Knowing which season you’re in can reshape how you make business decisions and help you to avoid frustration and burnout. If you ever find yourself stuck as to where you should be putting your priorities, or your business tends to rapidly switch from ‘way too busy’, to ‘desperate for work’, this episode is for you. Covered in this episode: What are the four seasons of business and which one are you in? How to avoid the cycle of burnout that traps many creative business owners. Why limiting your capacity can actually be a benefit to your business. How to avoid panic mode when the leads dry up. Why marketing is a year-round priority - even when you’re fully booked. When is the right time to seek outside support? How taking time to celebrate wins can fuel growth. Wed, 06 Nov 2024 - 39 - Use This Simple Referral Strategy To Generate Consistent Leads
If you’re like most creative agency owners, chances are most of your work comes through word of mouth and referrals. And that’s not necessarily a problem - referrals can be one of the best lead generators. But what I’ve discovered is that most people don’t have a referral strategy, leading to inconsistent results and a lack of control over the flow of projects. In this episode, I’m sharing an underrated strategy that can transform the way you win projects, giving you a steady stream of inbound inquiries without that uncomfortable feeling that you’re ‘begging’ people for work. We’ve implemented this strategy with our clients and it’s led to them paying for an entire year of coaching within 30 days of joining. And this can work for past clients and those you never ended up working with, too. I share the exact questions to ask that allows you to give more value, rather than take it and create a consistent referral machine. Are you struggling to scale your business, without working longer hours? Are you feeling burnt out and unfulfilled, even though from the outside, your business looks like it’s thriving? That’s exactly where I was years ago - snowboarding in Canada, living the digital nomad lifestyle. I had friends messaging me, congratulating me on living the dream - but beneath the surface, it was a different story. I wasn’t happy. I was working with the wrong kinds of clients, feeling overwhelmed, and constantly stressed about money. But this all changed when the loss of a family friend forced me to rethink everything. In this episode, I share the game-changing lessons I learned to help you build a business that doesn’t just pay the bills but allows you to thrive and do more of the work that fulfils you. The three things that move the needle when it comes to doing more work that makes a positive impact and leave you feeling fulfilled. How to position yourself as a partner so clients stop asking for discounts and start respecting your true value. Wed, 10 Jul 2024 - 26 - This Is Why You Are Unfulfilled
What are your values? And I’m not talking about your brand values, I mean your personal values. I ask because in my experience, whenever anything feels ‘off’ in my life or business, a conflict in values is usually the cause. This showed up for me back when I was running a remote creative agency. I was travelling the world and had the freedom I thought I wanted, but something didn’t feel quite right. It was an ‘empty’ kind of feeling. And it got me questioning why I wasn’t happy, despite living this lifestyle I’d chosen. And if you’ve ever felt this, you’re constantly stressed or you feel like your work lacks meaning or purpose, this episode is for you. In this episode I help you identify the symptoms you’re facing that could result from a values conflict. I share some exercises you can try that will help bring you back into alignment and get you what you really want from your life today. Covered in this episode: Discovering what you really want from your life and business so that you can become more fulfilled every day. Exercises that you can take to help you figure out what your values are. Identifying the symptoms of a values mismatch. How to attract more people into your life who align with your values.
