Johari Abdul-Malik is a prominent American Islamic scholar, activist, and community leader, known for his work in interfaith dialogue, social justice, and community empowerment. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, He embraced Islam in the 1970s after converting from Christianity. He went on to pursue Islamic studies and became deeply involved in the Muslim community, particularly in the Washington, D.C. area. Johari Abdul-Malik holds a degree in Biology from Howard University and a Master’s degree in Islamic Studies from the University of Virginia. His educational background in both the sciences and Islamic studies has equipped him with a unique perspective, allowing him to bridge the gap between religious and secular knowledge. As an Imam, Johari Abdul-Malik served as the Director of Outreach at the Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church, Virginia, one of the largest and most influential mosques in the United States. In this role, he was instrumental in leading community outreach initiatives, focusing on social justice, interfaith relations, and civic engagement. His efforts have helped foster a positive relationship between the Muslim community and broader society, particularly in the post-9/11 era. Johari Abdul-Malik is also known for his work as an advocate for social justice. He has been actively involved in various causes, including racial equality, prison reform, and poverty alleviation. His commitment to these issues is rooted in his belief that Islam calls for the upliftment of the oppressed and the pursuit of justice for all people. In addition to his work as an Imam and activist, Johari Abdul-Malik is a sought-after speaker and educator.
