  • 322 - AFCON conversation with Andre Arendse

Over quarter of a century on, South Africa’s 1996 iconic Afcon triumph remains the high point for Bafana Bafana. This monumental victory, however, remains our only triumph in the tournament’s history. The team had only played together for a short period, with world football governing body Fifa lifting SA’s expulsion from the international stage in 1991 as the racist system of apartheid was finally abolished. The Springboks’ world-conquering victory in the 1995 Rugby World Cup had given the team buoyancy. They felt they needed to maintain the high spirits of the country following the 1994 elections, as well as that iconic Bok triumph. The Boks did it again just a few months ago. Can Bafana do it again? • 320 - Legends Night: Doctor Khumalo, Teboho Moloi and Edward Magents Motale

Doctor Khumalo, Teboho Moloi and Edward Magents Motale Now you got to agree either way me on this one, 2023 was certainly a standout year as far as sports is concerned in our country. More highs than lows hey! Definitely a year that will long live in the memory of South Africans as an unprecedented year of breakthroughs and success for South African sport and on the creative and artistic front. And how crazy and fitting that we reflect back on a year that was today as we all celebrate that holiday, hey, you remember it? Friday, 15 December 2023, a National Sports Day Celebration, following the Springboks’ record-breaking fourth Rugby World Cup title victory, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared 15 December 2023 a public holiday. Remember it? We won the rugby world cup. Hosted a successful netball world cup. Banyana Banyana did exceptionally well in the Fifa Women’s World Cup. From hockey to football, to swimming, athletics. What a year.
