Over quarter of a century on, South Africa’s 1996 iconic Afcon triumph remains the high point for Bafana Bafana. This monumental victory, however, remains our only triumph in the tournament’s history. The team had only played together for a short period, with world football governing body Fifa lifting SA’s expulsion from the international stage in 1991 as the racist system of apartheid was finally abolished. The Springboks’ world-conquering victory in the 1995 Rugby World Cup had given the team buoyancy. They felt they needed to maintain the high spirits of the country following the 1994 elections, as well as that iconic Bok triumph. The Boks did it again just a few months ago. Can Bafana do it again? Time will tell, but for now, a man who was there in 1996, who knows what holding that trophy aloft means, is here with us and he’ll tell us if the current generation can go all the way and emulate the class of ‘96. AmaZulu FC striker Bonginkosi Ntuli has died after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer recently, the club said. He was 32. Ntuli’s death was confirmed on Sunday after he became ill and had to be hospitalised a few weeks ago.

I want us to be brutally honest, because you know what, that's the only we will grow our sport of athletics. Raw, honest conversation with accountability. Something is really wrong at Athletics South Africa and we'll get to bottom of all their issues because you and I, need to know. What a month August has been, my goodness, absolute thriller of a month, for women by women. Banyana Banyana’s heroic performances at the Fifa Women’s World Cup in Australia/ New Zealand were there for us all to delight in, but I tell you what, there at a few women at SAFA, putting in the work, away from the cameras and the spotlight, to see to it our women football grows significantly. One of them is none other than SAFA's Head Of Women Football, Romaney Pinnock and my word, her CV reads like that of a movie script. A FIFA Master in the Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, an MSc with a focus on Ecotoxicology from the University of Siena, and a Medical Honours and BSc in Genetics, both from the University of Cape Town. As well as being a Director of Badgers Football Academy, Pinnock has held the roles of COO of The Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation, Programme Manager for the Western Cape Education Department and has been a freelance strategy consultant, recently for UEFA, the University of Cape Town and the University of Zululand.

Top of the week and there's no such thing as a blue Monday. In what should have been an interesting trial where proceedings on the first day of the trial of eight football officials, including a PSL club owner, match officials and a former Safa official accused of match-fixing, the case has been postponed to October at the Kempton Park Regional Court after the prosecution made some amendments to the charge sheet. Solomon Makhubela, the owner and chairperson of Limpopo club Magesi FC, former Safa head of referees Peter Sejake, PSL referee Bafana Mosia and assistant referees Ernest Nyambi, Stevens Khumalo, Linos Hobwane, Shane Chuma and Peter Chauke lined up in the dock for a brief appearance. Let's get to the bottom of this interesting case.

My guest was, without a doubt one of the most talked about players at the just ended Fifa Women’s World Cup. Every single social media platform, she trended. And for the large part of it, she was heavily criticised. Even on times where she saved our blushes, many chose to overlook all her good work and focused on the negatives. At just 15, she had to carry the shame of South Africa’s failure at the 2010 Under-17 Fifa Women’s World Cup, our poor investment in the women’s game was rudely exposed when Banyana conceded 17 goals in three games at that global showpiece. She was in goal for all three games. Fast forward to 13 years later, Kaylin Swart is still taking the stick. Suppose comes with been a goal minder. Never an easy position out there. What a pleasure it is to have Banyana goalie. Kaylin today, so much to unpack and unlock with this very underrated yet exceptional player
