Halifax, Nova Scotia is a city with no shortage of tall tales, folklore, and urban legends. The story of the Glove Guy may be stranger than all of them. When Dianna Mah-Jones uncharacteristically missed a meeting, a co-worker went to her house to check on her. What was found in the home was aftermath of one of Vancouver’s most horrific crimes. The double murder of 65 year old Dianna Mah-Jones and her 68 year old husband Richard Jones was as brutal as it is senseless. When the suspect, 25 year old Rocky Rambo Wei Nam Kam, was questioned he seemed more interested in talking to police about video games then what happened inside the home. In fact, video games would become a major part of the case… as Rocky Rambo’s defense is that he thought he was in one when the elderly couple were brutally murdered. Prince Albert, SK - May 11, 2021 Bernie Herman has been with the RCMP for over 30 years and at 55 years old, retirement was inching closer every day. With a wife at home, children grown, and grandchildren to enjoy, you would expect the veteran Mountie was anxious spend his golden years stretching out in the life he spent a lifetime building. But, that's far from the way Bernie's story goes. For reasons we may never fully understand, Bernie formed a friendship with a young man he met on facebook and that relationship evolved into something between a father/son dynamic and an extramarital affair. What we do know, is that whatever motivated and nurtured the relationship isn't what ended it. While in his uniform, and with his RCMP issued firearm, Bernie shot his 25 year old lover dead in a wooded area on the outside of town. I only need to walk a block or two in any direction from my home to see a poster pleading for information related to the disappearance of 16 year old Devon Marsman. Ryan Sommers has a rather remarkable story to tell. Back in 1994, when he was a student at C.P. Allen High School, he was involved in an economics project in which groups of students started businesses. Ryan's group decided on running a sort of gambling scenario that involved bringing a cow to the school's sports field, and having people wager bets on where it would first poop. As you will hear in this episode, the entire event went horribly wrong, and resulted in a cow chase involving RCMP, animal control officers, and large groups of excited school kids. On Jan. 3, 2017, Afghanistan war veteran Lionel Desmond bought a semi-automatic rifle, dressed himself in camo, and snuck through the woods to his family home. Inside he shot his mother, his wife, and his 10-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself. The factors that led to this horrific outcome, and the red flags missed/ignored along the way were the topics of a public inquiry that has just concluded. I love a David vs. Goliath story, and in this episode we have an especially lopsided mismatch. Romana Didulo, the self declared Queen of Canada, has managed to convince her followers that she is leading this country with the help of both international partners and... well... aliens. Our story is going to take us back to 2022 and into suburban Ontario for what can only be described as a living nightmare. Something awful had been happening to 37 year old Iranian immigrant Elnaz Hajtamiri. Although she never confided in her loved ones what exactly was going on, it is quite clear she was being hunted. Over the span of several weeks multiple tracking devices were found on her car, she was violently attack with a frying pan by two masked men, and then in her last known moments three men dressed as police officers entered a home she had been staying at claiming to have a warrant for her arrest. Elnaz was last seen being dragged by these men barefoot through the snow and into a white SUV. The questions of where she is, who took her, and why remain unanswered, but it seems those secrets won't be kept for long. Duncan, BC. New Years Day 1970. Just before dawn. Doreen Kendall, a nurse at the Cowichan Hospital, wanted to open a window and get some fresh air in a patients room. As the curtains parted, a blinding light being projected from an object hovering just outside the window froze her dead in her tracks. In a past episode, I shared the story of Romana Didulo, the Pilipino immigrant who, from a bedroom in a Victoria, BC boarding house, convinced a surprising number of Canadians that she is the true queen of Canada and our Kingdom's commander in chief. Via a series of follow up episodes we also heard how she and her followers attempted a sort of twisted siege of a Peterborough police station. Despite the failed arrest of a police force, Romana Didulo and her followers haven’t slowed down. Earlier this month they arrived in Kamsack, Saskatchewan with plans to rebuild the town under Didulo’s rule only to be chased out of town by locals… but they didn’t travel far. The Queen and her followers are now sheltering in an abandoned school house in the town of Richmound, Saskatchewan and the towns people have been circling it in protest almost since their arrival. 2006, Near Regina Beach, Saskatchewan On the third night of a three day long graduation party, a group of people unconnected to the event crashed the party. At some point after their arrival tensions flared between members of the groups. What started off as a verbal altercation in a dimly lit field has evolved into one of Regina's most often discussed unsolved murders. Despite there being nearly 200 in attendance, and 17 years of finger pointing, investigators have yet been able to prove who killed 19 year old Misha Pavelick. In June of 1997 two Halifax Regional Police officers took a break from the action to have a coffee and catch their breath. They pulled into a dark lot behind a Tim Hortons, pulled their cruisers window to window, and began to chat... unaware their lives were about to change forever. This episode is going to take us to Hogsback Lake, a sort of natural recreation area southeast of Vanderhoof, British Columbia. Although the area is known by locals as an ideal spot for camping and fishing, it has also become known as the setting for one of Canada's most often discussed missing person cases. On May 28, 2011, then 20 year old Maddy Scott attended an annual party at Hogsback Lake. Maddy and her friend Jordi intended to camp out at the lake together but unexpected attendees and alcohol would lead to Maddy being left behind to camp alone. The next morning the only thing found at the lake was Maddy's truck and an empty tent. Over the past 12 years the search for Maddy would receive international attention and a ravenous online following despite very little in the way of clues or developments but that all changed just last week and dramatically so. In this episode I’m joined by Madelayne Kline to discuss the disappearance and death of Maddy Scott.
