Today’s podcast: Before Donald Trump, the Biden administration wrote to PM Justin Trudeau, and Congress had The Northern Border Caucus as Americans had real concerns about the proliferation of threats from Canada to the U.S. - Is it all posturing by Donald Trump that Canada is not fulfilling our agreement to have each other's back? Our guest says, indeed not only posturing by Trump. - On border security, the premiers are stepping up with their own plans, in the absence of federal leadership. And the premiers' plans can actually be implemented, while the federal plan "isn't really worth the paper it's written on." And on the subject of tariffs, does it make any sense for Canada to threaten retaliatory tariffs against the U.S.? Guest: Christian Leuprecht. Distinguished professor at Royal Military College How many do you remember? Might you have forgotten a few? RIGHT DISHONOURABLE: Scandals that defined the Trudeau era is a piece by Bryan Passifiume Post Media national politics reporter. Guest: Bryan Passifiume, Post Media national politics reporter As we wind down the program, longtime guests and friends join us. Tim Danson has been the lawyer for the French and Mahaffy families for 30+ years in their battle for whatever justice Canada's offender-friendly system deems acceptable. Tim was also the lawyer of Jim and Anna Stephenson whose 12-year-old son Christopher was abducted from a Brampton, Ontario shopping mall by convicted child sexual psychopath Joseph Fredericks who would murder Christopher. During the inquest into Christopher's death, the federal government refused to fund Stephenson's legal expenses, suggesting federal government lawyers could properly represent Stephenson's concerns. After a program with Jim Stephenson, Christopher's father, and Tim Danson, the federal Minister of Justice and Attorney General Doug Lewis demanded to be on our program to 'set us straight.' The next morning Lewis spent two painful (for him) hours in-studio. The following morning, the Minister of Justice called in to say the federal government had been wrong and that Ottawa would not pay the Stephenson family's legal costs. Tim Danson had not sent the Stephenson's one invoice. Guest: Tim Danson, lawyer for the French and Mahaffy families U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has said he would not use military force to annex Canada, but that he will use economic force to create an economic union between the U.S. and Canada. - But, the United States did have a detailed plan for a military invasion of Canada in 1935 and today, near Watertown, New York, some 10 miles from the New York/Ontario border and some 50 or so miles from Ottawa sits a massive U.S. military installation, Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division of the U.S. Army. A rapid deployment military unit. The question is periodically asked "why is this military unit stationed in such proximity to the seat of Canada's national government? Might the U.S. have plans to invade Canada under specific circumstances? Guest: Dr. Tim Cook. Sat, 11 Jan 2025 - 14847 - Roy Green Show Podcast January 5: The Liberal Party Caucus revolt, MPs confront Trudeau, controversies with the Canadian Justice System and remembering great moments on the Roy Green Show
Today’s podcast: Trudeau remains silent on his plans concerning the Liberal Party of Canada caucus revolt against his leadership. Guest: Ujjal Dosanjh. Former BC premier and federal Liberal Party health minister More on Trudeau's silence, with a special Liberal Party national caucus meeting scheduled for Wednesday. MPs are set to confront Trudeau on his unwillingness (so far) to resign as PM. Guest: Brian Lilley, Post Media columnist. Since the beginning of the RGS our go-to guest on issues concerning the Canadian justice system, Correctional Service Canada and the Parole Board of Canada has been a former Alberta crown attorney, executive director of the Canadian Police Association, senior policy advisor to a federal Minister of Public Safety, Scott Newark. In the 90's this included so-called "Club Fed" prisons like Ferndale in B.C. which included a 9 hole golf course inmates were allowed to use. In recent years the Canadian justice system has come under significant criticism for the easy (instant) parole granted dangerous individuals, for the moving of convicted serial rapist, kidnapper and murderer Paul Bernardo from a maximum to medium-security prison. We took our program inside two federal prisons, Joyceville and Warkarth, for live shows with the inmates committees. At Joyceville, we asked the inmates committee what would happen to Clifford Olson, British Columbia serial child/youth murderer if he were transferred into the general population of the prison, as Olson had been requesting. The chairman of the committee said bluntly "he would be murdered." Guest: Scott Newark, former Alberta crown attorney, executive director of the Canadian Police Association, senior policy advisor to a federal Minister of Public Safety On September 11, 2002, the first anniversary of 9/11, we took the show to New York City for a Corus radio network broadcast where we rented studio space at WOR radio. Americans repeatedly told us how grateful they were Canadians had come to share the day with them. RGS producer Rick Zamperin and I walked the perimeter of St. Paul's Chapel, across the street from where the World Trade Center buildings had stood. St. Paul's was undamaged in the terror attack and thousands of people had placed memorial messages on the iron fence surrounding the chapel. One in particular remains seared in memory. A piece of cardboard on which, in a child's writing, were the words "I love you Daddy." - Rick decided to engage on his adventures in NYC where there was concern of a possible repeat terror attack. He attended a NY Yankees game and visited the observation deck of the Empire State Building. Our first guest on the national broadcast was former prime minister Brian Mulroney. On September 11, 2002, the first anniversary of 9/11, we took the show to New York City for a Corus radio network broadcast where we rented studio space at WOR radio. Sun, 05 Jan 2025 - 14845 - Canadian justice system has come under significant criticism
The chairman of the committee said bluntly "he would be murdered." Sat, 07 Dec 2024 - 14812 - Dec. 7: Canada's newest federal immigration minister is now pulling the welcome mat out from under would-be Canadian asylum seekers
Canada's newest federal immigration minister is now pulling the welcome mat out from under would-be Canadian asylum seekers and posting global warnings claiming asylum in Canada is "not easy." This after his boss Justin Trudeau, during the first Donald Trump presidency of the U.S., posted to X, "To those fleeing persecution, terror and war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength." This was as Trump was closing the U.S. border to entrants from six predominantly Muslim countries. -- As well, the story we broke some weeks ago that migrants who break the law and enter Canada at uncertified land border crossings with the U.S. and manage to evade detection by Canadian authorities for 14 days are then eligible to appeal for inclusion into the refugee queue, with hearing dates pushed back four years while they benefit from Canada's social programs and healthcare.
