In 2024 she represented Great Britain in the European Multisport Championships bringing home two age-group bronze medals in duathlon and half ironman distance triathlon. Sat, 03 Oct 2020 - 184 - Season 2 Episode 8 with Michael Maisey
Today Alex and Lisa talk with Michael Maisey, author of Young Offender, self-development coach, motivational speaker, host of the C.I.P. Podcast, creator and Host of The Free ‘Time For Change’ online programme. We absolutely loved recording this episode, where we discussed Michael’s amazing story, what led him to sobriety and the impact he is now having on the lives of so many. In Michael’s book, Young Offender he documents his life growing up during the late nineties on the Ivy Bridge Estate in Isleworth, west London. Abandoned by his father and abused by his uncle, scared and wanting to feel as if he belonged, he fell in with a local gang. He started drinking, taking drugs and shoplifting. By the time he was fifteen he was an armed robber. When a poorly planned raid on his local corner shop went wrong, he was sent to the infamous Feltham Young Offenders Institute. Michael's first stint in Feltham left him hardened. Assigned to the Quail Wing, home to the institute's most violent and dangerous offenders, he soon established his place in the system. Over the next five years, Michael became one of London's most wanted armed robbers. In and out of prison, he was accused of drug-dealing, assault and even attempted murder. Totally dependent on drugs and alcohol, he was subjected to a controversial detox programme which ended in a failed suicide attempt. At rock bottom, he began attending AA meetings. But a drug-deal gone wrong left him with an ultimatum - change or die. Could he leave his criminal past behind? Young Offender is a powerful story of redemption by a man who found the strength to turn his life around and - with no qualifications - to become a successful businessman and loving father. Today Alex and Lisa talk to Louis Harrington, founder of The Sharing Experience. Louis is an ex-professional golfer now-turned coach and mentor. In this episode we talk about how supporting his friend through a 90-day sober challenge, turned into his own sober journey and transformed his life. Here’s what Louis has to say about himself: Currently 35 years old and found my purpose and desire to share my experiences to try and inspire and help others. I spent over 10 Years as a PGA Golf professional and had dreams and aspirations to play the game at the highest levels, to which I never achieved. Having suffered with severe mental health difficulties throughout most of my adult life and taking antidepressants for most of my adult life also I had always wanted to know what was behind it all…. In December 2019 away on a typical alcohol fuelled golf holiday and severely hungover at the time, a good friend started to explain how he felt he had to seriously stop drinking and get his life in order…… ding!! This was a special moment in my own head….There and then I committed to a 90-day challenge myself through the OYNB team starting 1st Jan 2019… 90 days turned into 365-day challenge and here we are coming up 600 days sober!! I could go on for a long time about the radical changes my life has taken but most importantly have been able to stop taking the anti-depressants for the first time in my life, started my own coaching/mentoring business, and improved every aspect of my life as the partner/father/friend/son and colleague from this one simple yet so almost impossible change! Sat, 29 Aug 2020 - 179 - Season 2 Episode 3 with Jesse Mogle
Today Alex and Lisa talk to Jesse Mogle, founder of From Sobriety to Recovery. Jesse just gets it and you are going to love him. He is an author, public speaker and coach, making a difference in the recovery world. Jesse also runs ‘Sober Sessions’, a group coaching service. Here is what Jesse says: I am Jesse Colin Mogle and I am a recovering addict who spent over 20-years looking at life through the bottom of a bottle. What was once the solution, became the problem, and almost ruined my life. On January 12th, 2017, I decided I was done with living my life beholden to intoxicants. The never-ending hangovers, the compulsion to drink when I knew it was destroying me, the isolation it led me to – because heaven forbid anyone see or hear me in a state of blacked-out. The following day I called Kaiser Permanente and entered their addiction treatment program. That day was a beginning, an ending, and a continuation of my journey. My mind, body, and spirit all knew one day I would have to make a drastic change in my life if I was ever going to earn the life I had always desired. The self-doubt, the shame, the guilt, the fear of too much time lost, every emotion you or I could think of and then a couple hundred more coarsed through my veins those first months. As I changed my habits and behaviors and adapted to my new reality I slowly became more clear headed, self-aware, open-hearted, and as ready as I could be for the future journey awaiting me. I have taken the lessons from my entire life – the years helping my mother battle Crohn’s disease, the decades surviving alcoholism and drug addiction, and the last three+ years in addiction recovery and have turned that knowledge outward so I can be of service to others so desperately in need of a life-altering change. In helping others identify and overcome the underlying architecture that is leading them into a life they do not want – I have discovered many secrets and keys to activating the mind, body, and spirit into immediate change mode – change CAN happen in an instant. It’s turning that change into a habit people tend to struggle with. As a professional speaker, podcaster, and lifestyle architect (as well as being the nation’s #1 bee fan) – I am a recognized authority on the psychology of growth mindset, positive habit creation and the self-identity that comes from programming put in place when we were children. I have served as a friend, coach, consultant, and advisor to people around the world for over 20 years. My favourite mottos: The Power of Positive Energy; Release & Flow In a Universe of Infinite Possibilities – Why Can’t this be One. Welcome to season 8 Episode 5 of The Sober Experiment Podcast by Bee Sober where Alex and Lisa chat with Bee Sober Book Club ambassador and sober coach, Jane Sproston. Jane is a 52 year-old Mum of a 7 year old pocket rocket and got sober in 2017 after five years of trying and a long stint “moderating”. Jane previously had a drinking career of some 30 plus years. She survived student days, raving, and the ladette culture only to find herself using alcohol to cope and numb after lots of complicated trauma. Jane’s journey has been full of highs, lows, twists and turns, including a period spent in The Priory, AA, an attempt at moderation, relapse and recovery. Jane is now a qualified person-centred therapist (a journey which took 9 years instead of the usual 4) and a qualified sober coach and also volunteers as a counsellor for a Well woman’s centre. Jane talks about her road to recovery, and how finding Bee Sober and becoming the book club ambassador finally helped her to find the connections she’d been missing. Sun, 19 Feb 2023 - 109 - Season 8 Episode 2 with Vicki Rebecca
Welcome to season 8 Episode 2 of The Sober Experiment Podcast by Bee Sober where Alex and Lisa chat with Vicki Rebecca. TRIGGER WARNING: This episode discusses rape in significant detail Vicki Rebecca has run a successful private Hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming practice that includes one to one therapy, both in-person and online, classes, retreats, live-in intensives, books and products since 1999. Since 2003 that practice has included retreats all over the world including Egypt, India, Turkey, the sacred sites of Scotland and more. She wrote her first book: ‘The Me I Want To Be: Simple Shifts To Authentic Wellbeing’ initially for the clients and students she’d worked with for over twenty years. It was also a way of pulling all her knowledge together, but most of all she wrote it for those who could not manage to go along to sessions or classes because of cost or distance. It had always been a source of frustration to Vicki that she could not help them too. To make her work accessible to a larger audience she wrote the book and recorded over ten hours of instruction and guided journeys to accompany it. In response to “The Me I Want To Be” when she has opened up during public talks, informal chats, and most especially her own realisation that a huge part of her sadhana IS to share her story, Vicky has now written her autobiography, no holds barred: “Naked Truth: Diary of a Glamour Model” is a time document ranging from 1956 to today. The true story of a young runaway who made her way through the seedy photo booths of Soho of the 1970s into a career as a page three girl and Monroe lookalike. A broken heart left her fluctuating between stardom, drugs and despair and when she hit rock bottom a spiritual experience changed her life. Vicki Rebecca has certainly lived! Sat, 03 Sep 2022 - 101 - Season 6 Episode 8 with Sam Phillips
We are back for season six episode eight of our podcast. Alex and Lisa chat with Sam (Aka Dare to dip) about cold water therapy and how it can be a fantastic addition to sobriety and therapy for mental health! Sam struggled with his Mental Health for years, specifically anxiety and depression. The anxiety started in school and Sam had no idea what this feeling was in his chest. He soon learnt that it was not physical pain but a mental one. Later in life, he turned to alcohol and drugs, which soon escalated leading him to go off the rails. This only heightened his anxiety and escalated his feelings of depression. Sam discovered Cold Water Therapy, and decided to train his body with 30 days of cold water showers. And then like everything else he does in life, he wanted to take this to the next level. Sam decided to take a dip in the North Sea every day for a year and is now asking people to support him by joining in or donating to his charity of choice, Anxiety UK!
