Can ghost stories ever be funny? According to Washington Irving, they actually can! Do not fear; tonight's story, The Specter Bridegroom, from Irving's book A Traveler's Tale, is one such story. A ghost story that isn't scary. A scary tale that isn't ghosty! Either way, you shouldn't be kept awake with fear; that defeats the purpose of Fairy Sleepy. So, go ahead and shut off the light, and I hope the story makes you very Fairy Sleepy. Until next time, goodnight!

This is for my husband on our anniversary, I love you and your love of golf! Have you ever fallen asleep while watching golf on television? Yeah, me too! Tonight's story The Charm of Golf is a short story written by A.A. Milne perhaps best known for his stories of theHundred Acre Wood and Winnie the Pooh. Like all authors, the tendency to muse about life and sport will almost always land somewhere on a blank page. If you love golf, this story and a bit about the history of golf may be something you want to stay awake for, if not sweet dreams. Either way, I hope it helps make you very Fairy Sleepy. I'm off to go watch golf uh...take a nap.
Next week is my birthday and being an October baby may cause me to look for things of the spookier variety as we enter the Halloween season so I'll have a new and longer story for you next week. Rainbows are a symbol around the world of hope, peace, love, and perhaps pots of gold at the end of the rainbow. Mostly they are beautiful reminders of the calm after the storm. Tonight's story begins with rain and ends with a rainbow and hopefully deep sleep. The Maker of Rainbows by Richard Le Gallienne is a reminder of one of my favorite quotes from Albus Dumbeldore "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." Okay, now I'm off to re-read Harry Potter for the four hundredth time! I hope the story makes you very, Fairy Sleepy. Until next time, goodnight!

Can trees talk to each other or is that just a Fairy Tale? In tonight's story, The Garden of Memories by C. A. Mercer addresses a living, breathing, forest, and even science suggests that trees communicate. Although tonight's story isn't a Fairy Tale, it is a reminder that nature lives too all around us, and protecting nature is something we can all do. I'm off to hug a tree! I love to travel and during my many travels coming back, many times, felt like I was waking from a dream. Tonight's episode is a bit different. The story and the music are different. Tonight we walk together west of Brittany's beautiful coastline and find the island of Belle-Île-en-Mer,whose name aptly translates to ‘beautiful island’. It is France’s third largest island and has been a popular location for artists over the years. Most notably, French Impressionist painter Claude Monet captured the essence of the coastal rock formations during the 1870s and 1880s, Join me on a walk around the island, and discover with me Monet's Island muse and a trip I'll never forget. It was hypnotic and I hope it makes you very, Fairy Sleepy.

podcasts@fairysleepy.comWed, 22 Jun 2022 - 55 - The Fall of the House of Usher
Happy Wednesday, Fairy Sleepers! Tonight's story is The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe. Poe is known for his dark and scary stories that use words and prose to set the scene rather than overt jumps and scares seen in other horror writers. With that said, there is a trigger warning for those who may be adversely affected by stories of depression, loss, or fear. If you love a good classic horror story or Poe's work, I hope you enjoy tonight's story, and I hope it makes you very Fairy Sleepy or doesn't keep you up too late! Until next time have a good dream! Goodnight!

Happy Wednesday, Fairy Sleepers! Tonight's story is The Red Room by H.G. Wells. Perhaps best known for his SciFi writings, Wells also wrote short stories. This is one of those stories. The question in this story asks is the red room something to be feared due to a specter lurking or because fear is assumed, does fear appear? Not a very scary story, much like Edgar Allen Poe's writing much of the lead-up is assumed or suggested. I hope it makes you very Fairy Sleepy! Thank you for subscribing and listening and I hope you will pass it on to those who may struggle with sleep. Have a wonderful week!

Happy Wednesday, Fairy Sleepers! I hope you had a wonderful week! This week's short story is called A Curious Call by Louisa M. Alcott, who you may recognize as the author of Little Women.I'd like to dedicate this story to my mother, who passed away one year ago today, and for whom I started this podcast. She is missed tremendously. I hope this story makes you very Fairy Sleepy. Have a wonderful week, and until next time, goodnight!

Happy Wednesday, Fairy Sleepers! This week, we return to Scottish fairy tales from The Scottish Fairy Book by Elizabeth W. Grierson. The same author of the Elvin Knight from earlier this season. It's always fun reading Fairy Tales, although this one is about witches and what could be considered some very rowdy GNO of the times and a nod to the detriments of snooping. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope it makes you very Fairy Sleepy! Until next week, goodnight!

podcasts@fairysleepy.comWed, 27 Apr 2022 - 47 - The Missing Will
Happy Wednesday, Fairy Sleepers! I hope you have had a wonderful week! This week's story is called The Missing Will, written by one of the most prolific detective novelists of all time, and I don't mean Authur Conan Doyle, although he is a very close second. See if you can guess the mystery of the writer and The Missing Will.
One side note: Shameless self-promotion. ;-)
During the intro, I mention that the author grew up near a town called Brixham, England. I honestly had no idea of that fact until I did the research this week, but that is the town my book The Hundred Year Hotel by J A Lambert takes place because I found it so magical when I visited. The Berryhead Hotel in Brixham is the real hotel that inspired the fictional story. If you like Fantasy Fiction and magic, you will enjoy the story and can find it on Amazon. Working on the audiobook now!
If not, no worries! Enjoy tonight's story, and I hope it makes you very Fairy Sleepy! Until next time, goodnight!Thank you for all your downloads and amazing comments and reviews! I appreciate it!

Happy Wednesday, Fairy Sleepers! I hope you had a wonderful week! This week's story is written by Herman Melville and called The Piazzafrom the book of short stories called The Piazza Tales. Melville is perhaps best known for his novel Moby Dick.In this short story, his stream of consciousness takes us across a mountain seeking something magical he spotted from his perch in his piazza. His story reminds us that looks can be deceiving. To chase magic and rainbows is never a bad pursuit so long as we remember that (to quote Shakespeare from The Merchant of Venice) "not all that glistens is gold." I hope it makes you very, Fairy Sleepy! Until next time, goodnight!

Loki and Thor's first story may not be the same but interesting nonetheless! History is what is fascinating about these tales passed on from generation to generation.

Maybe not the most uplifting story but I like to search for stories you have never heard before and I hope it makes you very Fairy Sleepy.

podcasts@fairysleepy.comWed, 26 Jan 2022 - 34 - The Elfin Knight
Hello, Fairy Sleepers! This Scottish Fairy tale was adapted and written by Elizabeth W. Grierson in her book "The Scottish Fairy Book." However, the lore of this story is thousands of years old and influenced several songs, books, and folklore that is well over two thousand years old. More recently the story led to the creation of another adaptation. One of my favorite songs "Scarborough Fair" by Simon and Garfunkel, is based on this story even though the actual Scarborough Fair is a traditional English folk song from the Middle Ages, referring to an old fair in Scarborough, Yorkshire. The folklore of The Elfin Knight story led to their interpretation. I hope the story makes you very Fairy Sleepy! Keep an ear out for next week's story "The Glory of the Invisible Kingdom" a fairy tale about dreams. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarborough_Fair_(ballad)

Happy Holidays Fairy Sleepers and Happy Podmas! I'm super excited to bring Part 1 or Stave 1 of a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens! There are six "chapters/staves" So every week until Christmas I'll post a new chapter/stave until we reach the final week and I'll post the final two. Also, lookout for a special Christmas Eve post as well! Thank you so much for all your support! Happy Hanukkah to my friends and those celebrating this week! I wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season. Even though Dickens is discussing Christmas it is more a metaphor and lesson for all of us to help make the world a better place. Happy Halloween weekend for many of you in the world! Even though this isn't a Fairy Tale I thought I would try something different in the "spirit" of the season. While technically not an overly scary story it can be a bit...disturbing. Mostly Washington Irving was a wordsmith which I enjoy reading out loud. So don't Tarry, maybe this one keeps you Fairy Awake! Thank you for all the downloads and I hope you enjoy the Legend of Sleepy Hollow!
