Wed, 31 Mar 2021 - 13 - "The future of Sleep: How to reduce stress and improve your personal performance" with Yadid Ayzenberg - Part of the Hospitality Resilience Series
Welcome to the fourth installment of the Hospitality Resilience Series .
Jonathan Humphries , Chris Mumford and Jon Hazan are joined by Yadid Ayzenberg, Global head of Sleep devices and Director at BOSE Corporation .
In this session on The Future of Sleep, Yadid introduces us to the importance of sleep and its effects on our health and performance in the short and long term. A person needs to have a good sleep cycle in order to be optimally productive. Whether you can train your body and mind to need less sleep is but a myth. So many misconceptions exist around sleep but here's what you need to do to develop good habits and get a better night's sleep.
Yadid also introduces us to the Sleepbuds II: Bose's new wireless earbuds that deliver relaxing sounds to help you fall asleep and use Bose noise-masking technology to keep you asleep.
Nowadays, the hospitality sector is enduring huge adversity and is faced with a long challenging road ahead. This environment is placing new burdens and strains on leadership and bringing the need for personal resilience and inner immunity into sharp focus. Sleep is one of the pillars of resilience we decided to look into. It is defined as a dynamic activity and in order to fully understand the brain, we need to first understand sleep and its effect on the body and mind. Also, Sleep is the hospitality sector's main product offering and the industry would benefit greatly from understanding it.
About Yadid Ayzenberg:
Yadid Ayzenberg, Global head of Sleep devices and Director at BOSE Corporation an industry-leading audio equipment technology company, determined to bring about quality, performance, and design in its innovative products. He leads the firms’ Sleep products business and is focused on bringing product innovation to hundreds of millions who struggle from sleep issues. An entrepreneur, with over 20 years experience in product development, his team recently launched the SleepbudsTM II: wireless earbuds that deliver relaxing sounds to help you fall asleep and use Bose noise-masking technology to keep you asleep.

Jonathan Humphries , Chris Mumford and Jon Hazan are joined by Claudia Roth, Quantum Energy Coach and Founder ofSoul Luxury as they explore the topic of self-awareness, mindfulness and meditation; How important it is to allow ourselves to self-reflect and develop good habits in order to live our lives with intent and purpose. Throughout this third episode of the Hospitality Resilience Series, Claudia touches upon many topics with a key message of self-awareness. After an introduction to Claudia’s career by Chris, she immediately delves into her transition from high flying hospitality executive to Quantum Energy Coach. As a business executive, Claudia sought to reinforce the self-image she had created on what success meant. The turning point seemed to be waking up in the Ritz in Paris with her Blackberry imprint on her face. In her own words “life outside had moved, but Claudia hadn’t”. To go through a journey of personal transformation one needs to learn to live a more intentional life.
Chris, Jonathan, Jon, and Claudia discuss in length how meditation helps facilitate intentional living and how that helps with transformations. Meditation doesn’t only come in the form of silence and yoga mats, but Claudia outlines the way individuals find inner peace through the strong day to day habits such as exercise or a brief walk. Finally, she outlines that community can help individuals with this daunting task by sharing compassion and creates a safe space for their journey.About Claudia:

He has authored two books "The High Performance Company Manifesto" and "The Path to Personal Excellence". In this session, Simone talks about what it takes to be a leader in today's world. Mindset playing an important role in the way we view what surrounds us, maintaining good habits can help us take perspective and goal-set in the right way. As leaders, role-models, it is crucial to understand the responsibility we have towards our companies, communities and society. So essentially, we need to be present and mindful in our everyday lives, in order to be aware and seek the right kind of opportunities, allow space for change and adaptability to change, therefore, creating positive momentum all around.

Tue, 12 Jan 2021 - 10 - "Community-building: the journey it takes us on and its importance" with Monika Kanokova
Jonathan Humphries is in conversation with Monika Kanokova, author, entrepreneur, community strategist and lifelong believer in the power of communities. This is the final episode of 2020, marking the end of the year HoCoSo labelled as the "Year of Community", back in January. This year, more than ever, the power, significance and importance of communities was revealed.
In this podcast episode, we will come to understand why hospitality concepts of the future must take into consideration community building: what it means, what it is and how we do it. Humphries states "ultimately, we don't have to ask for permission anymore" because, according to Kanokova, access to information and access to people has never been so in reach, as it is today. So you must grab the opportunity, believe in your purpose and your values and be determined. You can be creative in your own way if you break the self-critique obstacle and let that inner-creativity express itself, in order to build self-confidence. So use your time wisely because time is precious, and time spent building and maintaining connections has proven to be beneficial in the long run.
There are solutions to be found and it is through collaboration and positivity that that will be achieved. There lays the power and importance of community.

Fri, 18 Dec 2020 - 8 - "Mental Health, Wellness and Creativity" with Mariana Palmeiro
Jonathan Humphries is in discussion with Mariana Palmeiro, Wellness and Spa expert, co-founder and head of Wellness Consultant, co-founder and chief business development officer at Field LLC, on the topic of "Mental health, wellbeing, and creativity". Her life has been devoted to wellbeing and looking after one-self in the art of prevention. She is an educator, consultant, thought leader, innovator, and entrepreneur.
Our mental health is under extreme pressure lately. During these trying times, we need to focus on all aspects of building our inner immunity and our personal resilience.
The World Health Organization - WHO - defined, in 1948, Health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. 72 years on, has that been achieved? The physical health has been very developed since that statement but a lot of that has been focused on the disease . Now, we started talking about a more wholistic approach to mental and emotional health and how we need to prepare our lives to be as healthy as possible.
Technology, as well, can now assist us and the professionals and practitioners in this field to better care for ourselves and our wellbeing. Biohacking is being introduced more and more in the field to help enhance the way our body is expressing itself. The hospitality industry, being years ahead in the level of experiences that companies are putting together with their technology, can serve as the best setting for these new biohacking technologies to flourish and develop and be in contact with people. Mariana explains her role in activating her network connections and advocating for this innovation to take place and reach a wide audience and community.

TheHospitality Resilience Seriesaims to challenge existing mindsets, exchange personal insights, discuss practical solutions and provide a forum for shared experiences that will help build personal solutions.
“Building personal resilience and inner immunity” marks the launch of the Hospitality Resilience Series. This first session was hosted by Jonathan Humphries from HoCoSo, Chris Mumford from Cervus Leadership Consulting and Jon Hazan from Atlas Coaching.
Resilience is about having a conversation and learning from each other. Humans adapt to change and learn to change according to the conditions they find themselves in. Leaders, nowadays must learn to drop the labels and adjust their expectations. But "this will pass" and it is necessary to look to the future and reshape the way we do things. Remember however we are not alone. Connections are now more important than ever and we must rely on our community, draw on the positivity that surrounds us and ask for help when it is needed.

Mon, 13 Jul 2020 - 3 - "Leadership through crisis" with Alphy Johnson - Part 2
Jonathan Humphries is in conversation with Alphy Johnson, a legend within the hospitality industry. He has had an incredible career and now heads his own consultancy International Hospitality Advisor.
Alphy Johnson is an expert in managing hotels, around the world, and he has had his fair share of managing hotels and leading through crises. In Part 1, we covered North America, his time in San Francisco during the earthquake of 1989 and the 1992 Los Angeles riots. We're now in Asia, in Indonesia during the financial crisis of 1997/1998.
During this time of crisis, rising from the coronavirus pandemic, we look to others for inspiration. Although we’ve never had this kind of situation, for many of our leaders, and many of us as industry professionals, the opportunity to have a conversation with Alphy Johnson about some of the crisis that he has faced in his career is invaluable. He describes himself as the humble Inn keeper which is really not a true reflection of the amount of responsibility and ability that he has shown. At the time when leadership was all around command and control, charisma and being on stage, and selling a message, his management and leadership style now seems extremely relevant and was not in tune with the typical leadership styles of the time. Yet he was [is] highly regarded, highly respected by his colleagues, his friends and his community.

They are two events that are marked in history as major crisis, they didn’t last a significant amount of time but they had significant impact on the community, the city, and the tourism sector in a way that it took time for these markets to recover and for the people to recover.
At the time when leadership was all around command and control, charisma and being on stage, and selling a message, his management and leadership style now seems extremely relevant and was not in tune with the typical leadership styles of the time.
