Start Sweep & Smile today! https://simplyconvivial.com/sweep
How many times have you scoured the internet, browsed Pinterest, or binged YouTube, looking for the next best tip or secret for a clean home? You want a clean home, fast, but no tips seem to work and no routines seem to stick. Oh, yeah, I've been there, done that.
Have you spent as much working any of those home cleaning tips as researching them?
Ouch. I know. But the truth is that any routine for a clean home will work if you do.
However, there's a huge temptation we absolutely must resist. It is a plague for those of us who tend to be both overambitious and overwhelmed - at the same time. We can teeter-totter between having everything together and totally giving it all up as impossible. This is the dreaded boom and bust cycle.
The boom and bust cycle is hard on moms. It's hard on families. It's not a good cycle or a good plan.

Learn to love what must be done: https://simplyconvivial.com/sweep
Need more cleaning motivation? Hate housework? Frustrated with chores? Here's the problem...First, we can feel angry while we clean the house when we focus on finishing or being done with the work and then — too soon after we “finish” — we have to do it again.
It’s easy to blame the kids or even our husband for undoing the work, for making messes again, for needing more food or more laundry. When we see housework as a thing we’re supposed to finish, check the work off as done, then the people in our house feel like a problem. We finished the work, but because of others, the work has to be done again.
The problem in such cases is only our perspective, not the other people and not the work. We have a wrong view of the nature of housework and the nature of life. We don’t understand our position in relation to our home and family life.
**The work of keeping a home is not work that ever stays done. **
That’s not a discouraging statement if we look at it rightly.

I couldn't keep my homeschool running and organized and on track without checklists for me as the teacher and checklists for each student being homeschooled, but that doesn't mean I haven't made mistakes along the way! There are wrong ways to use checklists and bad ways to depend on them. Here are the major mistakes I've made while homeschooling with checklists so that you don't have to!
1. Making all the homeschool checklists up front at the beginning of the school year.
2. Start creating new homeschool checklists from scratch every week.
3. Using shorthand and shortcuts on the checklists while homeschooling
4. Letting student checklists roam free and loose - checklists need a home!
5. Not looking at each kids' checklists - if mom doesn't look at them, neither will the kids.Blog posts about homeschooling teens -

Every homeschooling mom's dream is to have independent learners who just do their own work and love learning - every day. Yes, that's a dream. The dream is different from the reality. Checklists aren’t a tool where we offload our responsibility onto our kids. But they are a tool that lets us train them in diligence if we keep up our end of the diligence.
Raising an independent learner is more than handing a checklist to a kid and telling him to do it. It takes time, coaching, and consequences after mistakes for kids to learn. There are age-appropriate stages for expecting independent work. Learn more about proper expectations when it comes to homeschooling with checklists in this video!

As a homeschool mom, it's important to stay organized and on top of things. In this video, I'll share the THREE kinds of checklists that have helped me stay organized and efficient in our homeschooling journey. From lesson plans to weekly accountability with our students, these checklists are a game-changer for any homeschool mom. Watch now for homeschooling tips from Mystie Winckler!
Simplify doesn’t mean doing as little as possible.
We don’t want to be like the worst version of our students, getting away with as little as possible. But we also don’t want to be idealist dreamers, planning for so much more than is actually possible.
Have a purpose for everything you assign.
Avoid busy work. Will having done this work make a difference in the child’s education? Will both of you be happy in ten years that you did it. You will be when it comes to reading good books, having meaningful discussions, learning important skills.Mystie Winckler encourages moms to organize their attitudes and get traction at home so we are no longer overwhelmed or frustrated with homemaking. Checklists only work if you look at them and use them to inform your choices.
Checklists take time and training and consequences - for us as well as kids. Are we willing to do the work? It’s not as simple as just telling the kids what to do and then - ta da!

Wed, 27 Dec 2023 - 471 - Do you have the nerve to be a Mom?
Daily free encouragement emails: https://www.simplyconvivial.info/email
Find the article on Simply Convivial: https://simplyconvivial.com/2023/the-nerve-to-be-mom/
Moms often lack the nerve to be the leader with their kids, but the truth of the matter is that Mom’s ability to homeschool is dependent not primarily on her own level of knowledge, but on her level of leadership and backbone with her kids. You can outsource teaching as a homeschooler, but you can’t outsource the role of Headmaster.
I want to help equip moms to be better leaders of their children, better mothers and educators who are willing to put up with temporary resistance for the long-term good of their people.
Wed, 20 Dec 2023 - 470 - Help! I can't find morning devotional time!
Makeover your home management skills and mindset: https://simplyconvivial.com/membership
When we want to be sure we’re spending time in the Word and starting our day with prayer, we very easily slip into idealistic vision-chasing.
We imagine our morning devotions should
- be the very first thing we do in the morningbe done before the kids are awaketake at least thirty minutes, but maybe sixtyinclude a stack of booksbe comfy-cozy with warm light, a hot beverage, and earth tone midliners and a gentle candle flickering
So then when our mornings begin by being tossed from bed by a crying infant, when we don’t have ten minutes together without being interrupted, when we never make it to our candle-lit reading corner, we wind up never actually beginning the day with prayer and Scripture.
But it doesn’t have to be that way. We don’t need to have the perfect setting before we can fly to the Lord for daily sustenance. Such desperate, mid-action flight is more biblical than a cozy morning corner with scented candles, too.

Change the story you tell yourself about your life. Make it a true story: https://www.simplyconvivial.info/story
I spent so many years trying to get my bearings, get a grip, figure out the routines, and make things run smoothly. I mothered with intensity. I did not keep house with intensity. I meditated on the word convivial and how to get out of my own head so I could build a home and life where we all enjoyed one another.
I educated my children to take initiative, to think, to problem-solve for themselves, not to accept commands unthinkingly. And I was frustrated when their practice attempts were aimed at me. Instead of noticing that they were stretching their muscles toward proper independence and directing it with joy, I strategized over how to make my own life easier.
But an easy life isn’t the goal of our mothering. The goal of life isn’t to find or make the easy road. Sanctification for God’s glory is the goal, both for us and for our children, which makes it also the goal for our mothering.

Take the Mom's Weekly Review Masterclass: https://www.simplyconvivial.info/weekly-review-masterclass
Overcome perfectionism and start with baby steps as you work on organizing and planning. A 'weekly review', which is a practice to continually iterate, allows us to grasp our plans and obligations for the upcoming week.
An integral part of this process is identifying and addressing 'open loops'. Coined by David Allen, 'open loops' refer to uncertainties, obligations, or commitments in one's life that are undefined and might be causing stress or anxiety. They are the things that are on one's mind but are not being actively addressed.
The first step in tackling these open loops is by ‘brain dumping’, which involves writing down all the things that are occupying your mind. This practice helps make them specific rather than vague, reducing the feeling of overwhelm.
The next step is to focus on particular issues among these open loops, and take baby steps to address them. Essentially, regular brain dumping and reviewing of these lists in a weekly review can lead to better organization and reduction of stress.

https://www.simplyconvivial.com/stop-overwhelmSat, 17 Jun 2023 - 452 - What is women's work?
Women were created by God, in his image, with biological distinctions that separate and distinguish them from men. God not only created humans, male and female, but He also created work for them. In the perfect garden, mankind had a job. Because God made both women and work, we must look to Scripture to determine what makes up women's work.
Unfortunately, many women, especially Christian women, struggle with home management, motherhood, and figuring out what they ought to be doing. There is a lack of direction and instruction in the Christian world today for women who want to be faithful to Christ in their homes. The gospel touches and transforms our whole lives, bringing us into greater conformity with God's revealed will.
Both men and women have the duty to love God with all their hearts, minds, and strength. Both have the call and ability to know God more deeply and personally through prayer, Scripture, and corporate worship. The fruit of the Spirit applies equally to both men and women, but the opportunities and expression of that fruit will be different. God made men and women different by nature and gives them different roles so that we better image the glory and complexity of God Himself.
The Bible has much to say about the duties of women, with one passage giving us a comprehensive glimpse of our job description: Titus 2:3-5. God makes it clear that real kingdom work is done through families in homes. Women are not to stay home in order to keep small. Instead, God tells women to cultivate a fruitful life from their own home base because they are the cultivators of beauty and glory and the home is the best place to build beauty and glory.

Free 7-Day Stop the Scroll Challenge: https://www.simplyconvivial.info/stop-the-scroll/
The rise of social media has been a double-edged sword for many of us. On the one hand, it's never been easier to keep in touch with friends and family from all around the world, but on the other hand, social media can also have some significant negative effects on our mental and emotional health, as well as our relationships. This is especially true for homeschooling moms, who may find themselves constantly comparing their own lives to the seemingly perfect lives of others on platforms like Instagram.
The problem with Instagram, in particular, is that it works as a comparison machine. When we scroll through our feed, we're bombarded with images of other people's lives, which our minds then evaluate and analyze. If the photo seems acceptable, our minds register it as good, which can then lead to feelings of obligation. For example, if we see a picture of someone's perfectly organized kitchen, we may feel like we should be doing more to improve our own living spaces.
The images we see on Instagram can also shape our conception of normal, which can be a good thing when it comes to passing down cultural practices from one generation to the next. However, in the world of social media, our perception of what's normal is more shaped by what other people choose to post online than by interpersonal interactions in physical social contexts.
For homeschooling moms, the constant exposure to images of other people's homeschooling experiences can be especially problematic. We may find ourselves constantly comparing our own homeschooling practices to those of others, which can lead to feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. Additionally, we may start to view our own lives through the lens of Instagram, constantly thinking about what's "Instagrammable" and how we can document our own experiences to make them look better on social media.
To avoid these negative effects, it's important for homeschooling moms to be mindful of their social media usage. Try going a week without looking at or posting on Facebook or Instagram, and see if you notice any unhealthy patterns of relating that you didn't even realize were happening. Remember, Instagram is just a highlight reel of someone's life, and it's not a true reflection of what life is really like. So, take a step back, and focus on what really matters - building meaningful relationships with your family and creating a fulfilling homeschooling experience for yourself and your children.

Free how-to-make-a-cleaning-plan guide: https://simplyconvivial.com/clean
When I was a young mom and homemaker, I read blogs and books on keeping house better. I didn’t love housework, but I did want to do a good job. I wanted to be a good housewife, a good homemaker.
I would try to do the cleaning routines promoted by bloggers. I copied lists and plans from magazines. I asked friends who had clean houses how they did it.
But having a clean house just seemed like one of those things that was not going to happen for me. I would go in fits and spurts, but no routines or consistent level of cleanliness ever stuck.
The only thing I was master of was the boom and bust cycle: Go on a cleaning frenzy, make a ton of progress all in a day, collapse exhausted from the effort, and wake up sad the next day that the work all had to be done again.
What I know now, nearly twenty years later, is that I was missing two things: 1) an unconscious preference for neatness and 2) an understanding of the nature of cleaning.
Women are the backbone of society, so we must be free from cultural lies & personal guilt and have the freedom of good habits and self-control so we can build God-honoring families and communities.

Change your internal narrative: https://simplyconvivial.com/story
I bet I’m not the only one who has stood in the middle of the house, staring. Everywhere I looked, there was a task screaming for my attention. Every room needed to be decluttered, cleaned, and organized. It felt like there wasn’t a single thing that was the way it was supposed to be.
The to-do is so long, it’s impossible to know where to start. And that’s just the written to-do list. The mental to-do list, kept in my head, was even longer. It left me feeling a sense of impending doom. There was no such thing as catching up. I had zero chance of even knowing, much less doing, all the things I ought to be doing.
If you find yourself in a similar place, where you have multiple responsibilities, all with many duties, many tasks, some urgent, some important, many unlisted and possibly unknown, so that you feel overwhelmed by life, there is hope.
Women are the backbone of society, so we must be free from cultural lies & personal guilt and have the freedom of good habits and self-control so we can build God-honoring families and communities.
