That Farm Life is Agri-Health Network's weekly podcast hosted by Stan Norman. We dive into topics that affect those in the farming community. We believe it's ok to not be ok, but we want to help people not stay that way. The Agri-Health Network is a non-profit established to provide stress assistance those engaged in farming, ranching, and other agriculture-related occupations. We encourage and provide resources for these groups to create a safe zone in the Agri-community to handle stress with biblical, faith based answers. Our goal at the Agri-Health Network is to help others recognize the signs of stress and offer opportunities to help deal with that stress through faith, family, and community with other farmers.
The Agri-Health Network is a part of Eagle Farms at Williams Baptist University.

Two Ways Parents in a Blended Family can Improve Connection
· Learn your stepchild’s love language & put it on a scale. Instead of a bear hug for the child whose love language is physical touch, choose a fist-bump. Honor and respect their level of comfort with you.
· Respect the story of the child you’re trying to connect with. Be patient, persistent, continue to be present.

“People within agriculture, they’re doing so much for everything else – for other people, for their animals, for their land – and if we’re constantly running ourselves into the ground, we’re going to feel stressed, we’re going to feel tired, we’re going to feel anxious and we’re not going to be able to perform at our top capacity.” -Emily Shaw, Dairy Girl Fitness“The entire point is building a foundation, and really building it brick by brick, and taking those baby steps. Because when we start with the smaller changes that you feel more confident about, it feels more do-able, it feels more maintainable.” -Emily Shaw, Dairy Girl Fitness

In this episode, therapist Mandy Young shares many practical tips to help us focus on the blessings of our holiday get-togethers.
Here’s some of the ideas and suggestions Mandy shared with us in this episode:
Strategies for Dealing with Difficult Relatives
Set boundaries before you go.Decide how long you will stay.Write ways you cope or can calm down on index cards and bring them with you.Make an escape plan if an uncomfortable situation arises.Choose to set aside debates and disagreements until after the family gathering.Know your capacity – for invitations, preparation, time, and emotional energy. Say no to anything above your capacity.Remember:
Being firm is not being rude.It is ok to say no.You are not responsible for the way other people respond. It is ok to avoid toxic family gatherings and choose to celebrate with others who love and support you instead. We'd love to hear your feedback! Jesus told many stories based on the agrarian society of His day. Pastor Rod Ohmes from Ramsey Creek Baptist Churchin Clarksville, Missouri sees these stories come alive in the community of his rural church.
You can find Ramsey Creek Baptist Church at their website or on Facebook.
“Farming takes some of the most faith of any kind of a profession out there… Like Jesus talks about in Mark 4, that a farmer, he sows the seed, he puts the seed in the ground, and then he just goes to sleep and he trusts that it’s going to grow…. Nowadays we can put all kinds of things on the seed and we can wait until just the right time and we can fertilize it at just the right time, but no farmer out there causes that seed to grow. God does…. There’s a lot of faith involved in farming. And so we can draw a lot of parallels between faith and farming just out of the stories Jesus tells and what the nature of faith is.” – Rod Ohmes

After college, James Thornton returned to the family farm and was looking forward to his first harvest when his dad was run over by a tractor. Six weeks in ICU and months of recovery meant that James was facing his first harvest without his father and mentor.
Neighbors stepped in. Retired farmers stepped up. A community of experienced farmers walked him through that harvest and helped him make it a success.
While we may not face difficulties this extreme, we all need a good support system. During times of stress, financial difficulty, illness, injury, or other tough situations, a good support system can keep us going.
“It’s humbling when your neighbor pulls in there, into a field that you can’t get to… and they knock it out for you. It was a blessing and I saw a lot of good come out of something that was traumatic… That was the first crisis of my life that I saw God bring a lot of good out of.” – James Thornton

· Mentioning their death following a certain difficulty such as foreclosure, bankruptcy, etc.
· Saying that their family or farming operation would be better off without them. When we hear these statements, discomfort may cause us to brush it off. But, asking a follow-up question can save a life. Possible follow-up questions can include “What do you mean?” or “Are you thinking of suicide?”

“When you talk with God on a daily basis, He’ll teach you how to cope with life’s stresses, life’s strains. And He’ll help you – because the Scriptures also say: ‘Casting all of…our cares upon him because he cares for us.’ He wants us to talk to him.” - Dr. Connie Ware
From her beginning as the only female in her high school FFA class to her role today as an Innovation Specialist for BASF, a love for agriculture and a love for the Lord define Dr. Connie Ware’s life.
Full of wisdom and practical insight, this episode is one you will want to share with others.

In 1999 Colleen and Arnis Benthal went on a church trip to Romania. This began a decades long partnership with a local congregation. No one could forsee how their partnership would change from a medical clinic to a kindergarten and now a place for Ukranian refugees.
With the current crisis in Ukraine and the millions of refugees pouring across the borders, people around the world are looking for ways to help. Colleen shares ways their network is involved with providing a safe place to stay while they arrange travel to a more permanent location.
If you would like to know more about Colleen’s work and The Servant’s Heart Foundation she mentions, email her at arnis@centurytel.net.
