The Brum Radio Bookshow is back, featuring novelists Mike Gayle and Catherine O'Flynn. This month we talk about the phenomenon that is Sally Rooney's Normal People, winner of multiple prizes and a huge seller too. We also talk about the conclusion to the TV series Game of Thrones - what are the implications for writers adapting books when they run of out book? Plus: Netflix-style binging for books and the alarming growth of "cancel culture" where writers pull their books due to criticism.

The Brum Radio Bookshow is back, with novelists Mike Gayle and Catherine O'Flynn giving the inside track on the world of literature. This month Catherine's tour of Birmingham libraries rolls into Yardley Wood and she reads from her essay on the feel of this beautiful building. And speaking of tours we also talk about the Orenda Books booktour, where a supergroup of writers hit the road together. We also cover the news in the world of books and writing, and some insider views of the London Book Fair. It's riveting.

The Brum Radio Bookshow signs off the year in style! Mike Gayle spills the beans on the goings on at the National Book Awards, plus we discuss Jonathan Franzen’s “10 rules for novelists” with Catherine O’Flynn. Catherine also reads from an essay she wrote about the Sutton Coldfield leg of her “libraries safari” and we chat about the books we are looking forward to reading over Xmas.
