Join Quentin Willson and Dr. Euan McTurk as they explore the latest in electric vehicles battery advancements. As a consultant battery electrochemist who has been working on - and driving - EVs since 2009, Euan is one of the UK’s leading experts on EV batteries, and most definitely has his finger on the pulse when it comes to emerging battery technology.

This week Quentin welcomes Labour’s Shadow Minister for Transport, Bill Esterson MP. In this incredibly insightful interview, they discuss the transition to electric vehicles and Labour’s plans on this front. 

As an EV driver and politician, Bill recognises the many benefits of embracing electrification for individual convenience, air quality and economic growth. But he also highlights the current challenges to achieving this, much of which he feels stems from the government’s mixed messaging and the rise in misinformation and scepticism from certain media outlets. 

Bill also shares an overview of Labour's plans to accelerate the transition, including details of their "5 missions" framework, aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in renewable energy, fostering economic growth, and creating opportunities for people.

This week, Quentin Willson continues our fact-sharing mission with special guest Matt Cleevely of Cleevely EVs, one of the country’s most established and experienced EV servicing and repair specialists.

There has been much speculation about EV repairs, particularly when it comes to the battery. Many believe complexity, cost and safety concerns make EV batteries difficult to maintain and fix, but Matt argues that this is not at all the case, sharing many examples from his own busy workshop and national mobile repair business.

Quentin and Matt also explore where the real EV repair challenges lie, and talk about the work Matt is doing to share his business model within the service and repair industry, helping other garages and dealerships become EV-ready.

After coming to the US from the UK to study at MIT Andreas settled in New York. Inspired by advancements in battery technologies, he set up Tenet with Stanford alumni Alex Liegl in 2021 and they have made huge steps within the US EV sector, which includes making the most of US citizen's federal tax credits.

As a result, Tenet can cut hundreds of dollars of a typical price, with the option to buy or trade vehicles. The US may not quite be Norway just yet in terms of EVs on the roads, but Andreas believes companies like Tenet can really make a real difference in EV adoption and the numbers increasing, especially in more clean tech receptive states like New York and California.

Easing his way into the New Year, in this week’s podcast Robert speaks with Robert Safrata, a Vancouver based entrepreneur and former Canadian Olympic Alpine Team skier. With over 25 years experience in acquiring, building and growing companies (Canadian) Robert takes (Fully Charged) Robert through his approach to making sure sustainability is at the heart of all that he does.

As inaugural member of Vancouver’s “Greenest City Action Team”, helping the city toward the goal of making Vancouver the greenest city in the world by 2020, Robert explains how by moving a business to a more sustainable future can yield many positive and unanticipated benefits not only for the company, but also for the employees and the wider local area.

For our last podcast of 2022 Robert wanted to catch up with ‘our man in China’ Elliot, to find out what he’s been up to, and get the lowdown on all the local news. With updates on BYD’s growing dominance, China’s grid capacity challenges, the tough times ahead for Tesla, and how by increasing their use of burning coal China are set to smash their emission targets.

Ever since Robert filmed his first pilot for the Fully Charged SHOW, some 12 years ago, he’s always wanted to record a podcast in front of a small, high quality audience. Well in this week’s edition of the Fully Charged Podcast he does just that.

Joined by Fully Charged CEO Dan Caesar and presenter Imogen Pierce, this pilot of the new Fully Charged FRIENDS video podcast showcases a new format that will begin rolling out from April 2023. Don't worry it doesn't necessarily mean you will lose out on the current podcast format!

This week’s special guest and long-term friend of Fully Charged is Juliet Davenport OBE, former CEO of Good Energy and current Chair of Atrato Onsight Energy, which focuses on commercial solar rooftops. Alongside being on the board of EV charging company Connected Kerb, Juliet has also recently published The Green Start-Up which brings her extensive industry knowledge and experience together to help guide founders and business through the journey of making their organisations greener and better for the planet.

In this week’s podcast Robert is joined by Giles Parkinson, founder and editor of The Driven, Australia’s most-read online electric vehicle news site - and one of Robert’s go to favourites. This week Robert speaks with Fastned co-founder Michiel Langezaal about their growing roll out of premium charging stations across Europe.

With the aim to provide electric vehicle drivers with “the most welcoming charging experience”, Michiel shares his insights and perspective on this fast growing and constantly developing essential piece of the electrification of transportation puzzle.

Fastned is a Dutch company that owns and operates a network of over 200 EV charging stations in the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Switzerland. Fastned was co-founded back in 2012 by Michiel Langezaal and Bart Lubbers. The first British location was in Sunderland, Fastned now has stations in Oxford, Newcastle, London, Glasgow and more.

This week Robert is joined by his old mate Roger Atkins, and as you can imagine in their own very distinct style they discuss a wide range of news topics and interesting stories from around the world of electrification. This week Robert is joined by Andrew Mott (Planning Manager) and Mark Rowcroft (Development Director) from Exagen. As a company, Exagen take an integrated approach to pairing utility scale solar farms with co-located grid balancing battery storage solutions, but how practical is it to create new solar farms? Andrew and Mark talk through some of the challenges and successes they've experienced working with Government and local communities to deliver these large scale projects.

Paul Martin is a chemical engineer, with 30 years of experience  across the full breadth of the chemical process industry. Now heading up his own Spitfire Research Inc, he offers his expertise in chemical process development, the vetting of research, hydrogen, biofuels, electrification and decarbonization. 

Professor David Cebon has authored or co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed papers on dynamic loads of heavy vehicles, road and bridge response and damage, asphalt micromechanics, weigh-in-motion, advanced suspension design, safety, productivity and energy consumption. In this episode, he hones in on Hydrogen and sets straight a few myths about its uses and cleanliness.

Helen Czerski is a British physicist and oceanographer and is a presenter on the Fully Charged Show. She has presented documentaries on a wide range of incredible subjects for both FC and the BBC. She is passionate about conveying the beauty and ingenuity of the physical world around us, and the perspective on the world that science provides.

After the amazing experience that was Fully Charged Live San Diego, Robert records a rant fueled solo podcast in his hotel room from across the pond. Robert talks about dams in British Columbia the Canadian show next year, ridiculous fracking the UK and Jacob Rees-Mogg's attitude towards climate change.

Jeni is the Director of Clean Transportation at San Diego Gas & Electric where she is responsible for developing, advocating and leading innovative program design and implementation in order to advance clean transportation as it supports California's clean energy policies and customer objectives.

Electrify America is installing more rapid chargers across the United States than you can poke a stick at. They currently have over 800 charging stations with around 3,500 individual chargers from 150 kW up to 350 kW. They are currently installing 4 new charging stations or hubs every week. This is a seriously rapid roll out. Electrify America have developed ways to reduce strain on local grids with their installation of multiple rapid chargers. Robert Barrosa is the Senior Director of Sales, Business Development & Marketing for Electrify America, and in this week’s episode of the Fully Charged Show Podcast, he explains how this is being achieved and a little bit about the history of the funding that has made much of this expansion possible. In late 2016, the U.S. Justice Department fined VW $30 billion after the company was caught rigging two of its diesel engines to pass U.S. emissions tests. That figure included the funding new zero-emissions vehicle technology and in particular charging networks. Quite a sensible way of using the money from a corporate fine.

Robert is joined by Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield from Youtube channel, Transport Evolved. 

Her knowledge of the US EV market is exceptional. Robert and Nikki talk about the EV’s that are currently available, and the trials and tribulations the manufactures are facing. 

Nikki updates us with the crew’s latest (inefficient) secret and how she intends to off-set this with perhaps THE most efficient EV in the future.
