Jessica Sobolowski-Quinn is a lifer in the ski industry. She’s skied more powder than almost anyone on the planet over the past 20 years, which is what you’d expect from the owner of one of Alaska’s premiere heli operations, Points North. But Jess didn’t grow up chasing powder in helicopters; she was a D1 ski racer who made her way to Palisades after college. From there, she met famous friends, started skiing rowdy lines, lined up sponsors, and traveled the world to film for a decade and eventually reeled it all in to manage the family business she runs with her husband, Kevin Quinn. The Pain McShlonkey Classic is arguably the most important event in all of skiing. The coveted Golden Saucer is up for grabs, and this year, 60 ski bladers had KT early ups on a Saturday pow day. The weekend's goal is to raise money in the name of our time's most important skiers and personalities. While Shane McConkey didn't look like an elite level athlete, he was way more than that: the funniest guy everyone knew, the most inclusive, the most awesome, and McShlonkey weekend is a way to celebrate his life and times with his friends at his home of Palisades. Kaitlyn Farrington grew up on a cattle ranch in Bellevue, Idaho. Life growing up was all about hard work, rodeoing, and, if there was fresh snow, skipping school to head to her home mountain of Sun Valley.  Eventually, she switched from skiing to snowboarding, earned a scholarship for the Sun Valley Team, and things happened quickly. Mark Mackay is a country music star in the making, but his background as a ski rep makes him the perfect new business episode. Ben Weis was one of the most exciting, high-risk skaters of his time, and his life outside of skating was just as death-defying…until it wasn’t. Connery Lundin’s ski career should be as prolific as he’s manufactured it to be. This is a kid from Oakland who was so burnt out on ski racing that he decided at 18 that he would never ski. Drew Petersen’s life and times have been defined by highs and lows from the time he was a little kid. On one hand, he lived in Colorado and developed a passion for skiing young. While that passion grows, so does depression and bipolar disorder, which is not diagnosed until much later in life. Combining that with a life of winning ski contests on the weekends and then returning to school as the smart, intense kid wasn’t the best combination. But Drew pushed through, made it as a pro skier, then had terrible accidents in the mountains, with a lot of head trauma and the suicidal thoughts became way stronger than they were at 9 years old. I’ve said enough, this is a heavy podcast, Drew is not afraid to share, and everyone should listen.

Louie Vito is a badass snowboarder. He’s an Olympian, a US Grand Prix Champion, a Dew Tour Champion, an X Games medalist, and he comes from a 300 vertical foot hill in Ohio. He also seems to know everyone form celebrities to pro athletes, he’s competed in Dancing With The Stars, he’s been in a Hollywood blockbuster movie and he’s pretty humble about it all. Mark Fankhauser has been a creative force in snow for over 20 years. “Fank” grew up worshipping Glen Plake, Scot Schmidt, and Mike Hattrup before he found the opportunity that came with snowboarding. From there, Fank chased Peter Line down the mountains of the PNW before landing his gig at Ride Snowboards while still in college. Eventually, Fank created and led the in-house design agency at K2 Sports; he spent time inside the walls of DOE, Mystery Made, and REI. These days Fank is a part-owner and head of design over at J Skis, and his story is a fun business episode.
