Ever think they don’t make music like they used to? Ever think new music isn’t for you? Think again my friend!Best friends Andy and Chris hit middle age and decided they still wanted to keep a withered finger on the pulse of new music. Each week, they listened to a new record from an artist they’d never heard before so they could have a chat about it. It was so much fun, they decided to make a podcast about it. Join Andy and Chris on their adventures each week where they give the lowdown on all the new music they’ve been investigating and dive deep on one featured album. From pop to classical, jazz to metal, hip-hop to J-pop, it’s a journey of constant discovery, always bringing new sounds to their ageing ears. And yours. So join our band of adventurers, listen along and get in touch with your views and recommendations. This is a podcast for all the musically adventurous who need to know that new music is alive and well and churning out wonderful things. Join us on ADVENTURES IN NEW MUSIC!

HELLLOOOOOO! And welcome in to the feast for the ears that is Episode 17 of Adventures In New Music! Kick back, relax, and settle down with your old muckers Chris and Andy and let them guide you through the world of new music!
In Episode 17 we chat about:
Jump Rope Gazers by The Beths (Chris's choice)
The Beths are a four piece pop rock band from Auckland, NZ and Jump Rope Gazers is The Beths second album. The band met studying jazz music at university, but don't let that put you off them. EHH! JOKES AND MUSIC!! Chris picked this album after getting excited about album opener I'm Not Getting Excited and was interested to see what clever musical trickery lies beneath this seemly straight forward pop rock head nodder.
Fantasize Your Ghost by Ohmme (Andy's choice)
And for our second album we have another album with an opening track in 7! Ohmme are multi-instrumentalist duo Sima Cunningham and Macie Stewart, both classically trained pianists and regular accompanists in Chicago where they are based. Starting out in 2014, this is the bands second long player. Released on the Joyful Noise label, this is an impressive collection of odd time tracks which gives a nod to artists such as Battles and Joanna Newsom. Grab the album and have a listen. You'll ned your odd time signature hat on. Your big one!
Don't forget to check out our playlist to see which of The Beths ands Ohmme's tracks we've added. Playlist available on the website or search Adventures In New Music on Spotify or Apple Music.

See you next time. Don't go tapping out on us.Fri, 02 Oct 2020 - 16 - Episode Sixteen - Our Two Skins by Gordi and Life Drawing by Mr Ben & The Bens
Good Morning, Afternoon, Evening and welcome to Episode 16 of Adventures In New Music! Chris and Andy are back again to guide you through this weeks albums in their very own 'expert' way! After last weeks black metal fest we are back on more easy listening terrain this week!
In Episode 16 we chat about:
Our Two Skins by Gordi (Andy's choice)
Andy picked this album after hearing the track Aeroplane Bathroom from this album. Gordi is the stage name of Sophie Payten, an Australian artist who is currently based in Sydney. As with her 2017 debut recording, Reservoir, this album was released on Jagjaguwar records, the home to acts such as Bon Iver, Angel Olsen and Sharron Van Etten. Described as Folktronica this album is a wonderfully personal affair inspired by and written during a fairly tumultuous period in Paytern's life. This is a real grower of an album and a mixed bag of genres which will reward you the more you listen to it.
Life Drawing by Mr Ben & The Bens (Chris's choice)
Self titled band leader Ben Hall begin this project back in 2012 in a barn in Lancaster in the North West of England. From there he's really put the time in and has self released seven albums as Mr Ben. Stylistically it's twee quirky indie pop (in a good way) along the lines of Belle and Sebastian, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci or The Shins. A “cloudy thread of narrative” is present throughout the album which Hall says is left open for listeners to map routes through it.
Don't forget to check out our playlist to see which Gordi and Mr B&TB's tunes we've popped on there. Playlist available on the website or search Adventures In New Music on Spotify or Apple Music.

Elton John's favourite band The Lemon Twigs are back with album number three 'Songs For The General Public'. 70/80's glam rock vibe, we love it.
The National's Bryan Devendorf releases new album under the name Royal Green. Pop on a sweatband, listen to the album but don't offer him a hug.

That was Episode 16, and it was Graham. Our Graham.Fri, 25 Sep 2020 - 15 - Episode Fifteen - Inlet by Hum and Im Wald by Paysage d'Hiver
Welcome along to another journey into Adventures In New Music! Strap in this week 'cos it's a bit of a heavy one this episode. As in two hours, one minute of black metal heavy. Yeah, you heard right people.
In Episode 15 we chat about:
Inlet by Hum (Chris's choice)
Originally released on Bandcamp in June this is Hums first album since 1998. And despite this obvious laziness it's been really well received by the critics! It's very spacey, alt-rock along the lines of My Bloody Valentine and is a proper swaggering, chuggy treat for guitar fans out there. Good starting point would be the album opener Waves and if you dig it let the album play on!
Im Wald by Paysage d'Hiver (Andy's choice)
Let's check out the main points of interest about this album. Black Metal. Two hours, one minute long. Got your attention?! Bit of info about old Paysage... Paysage d'Hiver is an ambient black metal band from Burgdorf, Switzerland. Formed in 1997, the sole member is Wintherr, an alias of Tobias Möckl who is a bit of a big cheese on the black metal scene playing in a couple of other bands in the genre. Pop the album on with an open mind, we dare you!
Don't forget to check out our playlist to see which Hum and Paysage d'Hiver tunes we've picked to go on there. Playlist available on the website or search Adventures In New Music on Spotify or Apple Music. Good lord, what Paysage song are we going to put on?! Andy?!? Help!!
Any other business:
Interesting article from The Guardian about the Norwegian Black Metal scene. This article was published just before the film Lords of Chaos was released.
If you are part of the 10% of the world that hasn't seen The Last Dance on Netflix yet make sure you correct that! It's inspired us to take up basketball as a side hustle. And to use the phrase side hustle.
New Bright Eyes album does not disappoint, but that won't come as a surprise I'm sure.

Eeeeeeeeeeee, episode 15. It was a week.Fri, 18 Sep 2020 - 14 - Episode Fourteen - Sex, Death & the Infinite Void by Creeper and Pure Luxury by NZCA LINES
Hello, and welcome to another edition of Adventures In New Music! Boy are we glad to see the back of the unlucky 13th episode and slide straight into this banging episode which features the following albums:
Sex, Death & the Infinite Void by Creeper(Andy's pick)
Creeperhave got back together after breaking up (supposedly) in 2018 to record this latest album and it's a really old mixed bag of genres and influences. Goth, punk, pop, rock, 60's, cheese, it's all there and there is much to enjoy on this album. Chris describes this as close to a guilty pleasure as he'll go, do you agree?
Pure Luxury by NZCA LINES(Chris's pick)
NZCA LINES is the synth pop project of Michael Lovett. Lovett has written and produced this banger of a disco pop masterpiece, as well as being part of Metronomy's live band, and playing on Christine and the Queens debut album. Busy lad. Bang this album on, ideally on headphones, and be prepared to have a good boogie to this one. 2020 Summer album for sure!
Don't forget to check out our playlist to see which of Creeper and NZCA LINES tunes we've added. Playlist available on the website or search Adventures In New Music on Spotify or Apple Music.

Cyanide - Creeper (official video)
Pure Luxury - NZCA LINES (official video)

Other bits and bobs worth mentioning:
The famous Ash hidden track (not for the faint hearted...)
Ava Adore video by the Smashing Pumpkins
Fontaines DC latest album A Hero's Death is out now. Strong album number two, two albums in two years from this lot. Impressive.
Bon Iver's new song AVATC can be checked out here. Can you spot Bruce?
Have a read of the story behind when Paul McCartney played celery on a Super Furry Animals record (not a carrot as Chris thought, but what's a carrot between friends...)
Biffy have a new album! Well worth a listen! It's Biffy Clyro so you know what you're going to get, and it's solid, classic Biffy.

...and don't forget...NEVER peak behind a magicians cloak.Fri, 11 Sep 2020 - 13 - Episode Thirteen - Spook The Herd by Lanterns On The Lake and Caught It From The Rye by Tré Burt
Episode Thirteen! Unlucky for some?! Unlucky for Mr Burt and Lanterns On The Lake?!
Welcome to Adventures In New Music, the podcast in which best mates Chris and Andy listen to two albums each week and voice their options about said albums from the comfort of their spare room/garage/make shift studio area.
This week the albums in question are Spook The Herd by Lanterns On The Lake and Caught It From The Rye by Tré Burt.
Lanterns On The Lake have just recently been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Awards for their fourth studio album Spook The Herd. This album was Chris's pick after hearing the lead single Every Atom. Will the album live up to this strong track, or is this a flash in the pan/lake?! Check out the vid for Every Atom and make up your own mind!
Fun fact for the fact fans out there! Tré Burt was once given 1000 dollars when busking in San Francisco by a generous stranger. Blimey! He used the money to book himself a tour and get his music out there to the wider audience. Have a look at his session for KEXP last year, it's a great starting place.
As well as our albums of the week there is talk of brewery tours that may or may not have happened, and we also recommend the following:

Adam Buxton Podcast - Ed O'Brien episode
The Balladeer by Lori McKenna
Don't forget to check out the playlist on our website which features one track from each artist featured on our pod. It's also available on Spotify or Apple Music if you give it a search there.
