Cincinnati Podcast Studio

Video podcasting is the best content system a business can run. The thing is, nobody tells you what it costs, what you'd talk about, or how to keep it going past episode four. That's what this show is for. Josh and Brian run Cincinnati Podcast Studio, with hundreds of episodes produced and years of video and marketing behind it. Podcast topic strategy. Turning one session into a month of content. Getting a busy executive on camera. Video podcasting for banks, credit unions, and financial advisors, compliance and all. Not a show about going viral. The right 500 people, not the wrong 50,000.

The 5-Step Process for Working With Cincinnati Podcast Studio: From Discovery Call to Weekly Rhythm

Josh Lewis & Brian Erickson walk through the exact five steps every editing client goes through at Cincinnati Podcast Studio, from the first 30-minute call to a steady recording rhythm. You will leave knowing what happens before the first recording, why it is built that way, and how to tell whether a video podcast actually fits the problem you are trying to solve.

    In this episode:

    - Most people arrive with one of two problems, brand recognition or education, and that is what decides whether video podcasting is the right tool

    - The discovery call is a 30-minute conversation, not a sales pitch, and it sometimes ends with "you don't need a podcast"

    - Video podcasting is only part of the work: webinars, course creation (one client recorded four courses in a single studio day), pitch videos, and short-form video are all on the table

    - Why the studio tour matters: seeing the space, and having a scheduled trip to the studio, gives busy executives ritual and accountability that a home setup does not

    - Proposals are custom every time, and can include creative consulting, social channel creation, and posting your podcast across platforms

    - Three meetings happen before the first recording on purpose, so branding, artwork, music, and voice are settled before a weekly show needs to move fast

    - Why you should not publish your first episode the moment it is delivered: record the next one first so you keep a buffer and never miss a week

    - Launching with two or three episodes, and banking edited episodes, gives new listeners something to binge and a reason to subscribe

8 Business Moments That Call For a Podcast: From Leadership Change to M&A

Brian Erickson and Josh Lewis have sat across the table from dozens of businesses navigating leadership changes, rebrands, and acquisitions -- and they've watched the same pattern play out every time: silence creates mistrust. In this episode they name the eight specific moments where a video podcast stops being a marketing nice-to-have and becomes the fastest way to keep people from filling the information gap with their own worst assumptions.

    In this episode:

    - Why treating a conference as a once-a-year event wastes the ten podcasts worth of content sitting in your speaker lineup

    - The Deloitte stat on retiring baby boomers ($6.9-9.6 trillion in projected lost output) and why a podcast is the fastest way to capture a retiring expert's institutional knowledge before it walks out the door

    - How to use a podcast to stabilize a company through a CEO transition instead of letting the rumor mill fill the silence

    - The Harvard Business School research showing communication dips during leadership transitions, and why that gap is exactly when trust erodes fastest

    - Why Deloitte found companies that communicate well during M&A retain employees 3.5x more often, and how a podcast becomes the CEO's steadying voice through the deal

    - How a podcast turns your sales team's same ten questions into pre-built objection-handling content that shortens the sales cycle

    - Why a rebrand isn't just a logo change -- it's a new company language, and a podcast is how you teach it to your whole organization at once

    - How Glasshouse Real Estate used podcast clips to recruit new agents by showing candidates the culture instead of describing it in a job posting

Episode 034: Stop Making Excuses: Every Objection to Starting a Business Podcast, Answered

Brian Erickson and Josh Lewis run the studio behind hundreds of business podcasts, and in this episode they answer the objections and FAQs that come up on nearly every sales call -- straight, with real numbers.

    In this episode:

    - Why "cost" is really a choice between time or money -- and the real range for a produced episode, from $500 for a bare-minimum session to $2,500 for a fully edited, done-for-you package

    - What DIY podcasting actually costs you in hours: about six hours minimum per episode once you know what you're doing, often a full day when you don't

    - Why 27 minutes is the shortest length worth making (it matches the average American commute), and why pushing closer to an hour usually gets better content and more usable clips

    - What happens to footage that never gets edited or posted -- the wasted guest time, the wasted spend, and the compound interest you never get back

    - Why "I'm not cool enough for video" doesn't hold up: if your business already works, you've already proven you're the person your clients need

    - Why there's no contract required, but 12 to 18 months is the real minimum commitment before brand awareness actually shows up

    - Why hyper-local businesses -- even ones podcasting for an internal audience of 300 employees -- still get real value from video

    - The actual disqualifiers for starting a podcast: no time, no money, no clear goal, or nothing you're willing to say in public

Brian Erickson & Josh Lewis on Podcast Topic Strategy: The 4-Part Framework for Never Running Out of Things to Say

Brian Erickson and Josh Lewis break down the exact framework they use with every Cincinnati Podcast Studio client to solve the question that stalls more shows than anything else: what do we actually talk about?

    In this episode:

    - Start with your business goal before you brainstorm topics -- if the podcast doesn't tie to something specific (more leads, more brand recognition, more team culture), it won't survive past month three.

    - Your podcast's ICP can be broader than your business's ICP -- cast a wide net to reach the narrower group who actually buys from you.

    - Pick the ICP you enjoy working with, not just the ones who spend the most -- your biggest clients aren't always your best-fit audience.

    - Define your unique authority one of two ways: what your team is uniquely great at, or the deeper "why" behind what you build. Both work, but pick one on purpose.

    - Ask your SEO person and your sales team what questions people already keep asking -- that gap is your next dozen episodes.

    - Run your website through an AI tool like Gemini and ask why it isn't ranking for the questions you want to own -- it will tell you exactly what content is missing.

    - Don't wait for the perfect topic to start recording -- your first episode won't be your best one, and the reps are what get you there.

    - Free tool: run your show idea through the Podcast Evaluator to get a score, a competitor breakdown, and a list of starter episode ideas.

We Almost Killed Our Own Podcast. Here's the Audit We Ran Instead.

Brian and Josh open up the Cincinnati Business Podcast -- their other show - and audit it live, on camera. A year and a half in, over a million content impressions, and they were still asking each other whether it was worth keeping. This is the full teardown: what was broken, what they're changing, and the three-part framework they use on client shows to make that call.

    In this episode:

Why "is this worth it?" is the right question to ask about your podcast -- and why viewership is almost never the metric that answers itThe 3 P's audit framework: Positioning, Packaging, and PromotionWhy a podcast without a defined ICP is a networking hobby, not a business assetHow narrowing your guest list actually increases views instead of shrinking themWhy the host's job is to represent the audience in the room, not himselfThe "does this bring me joy?" filter for guest selection -- and why an obligation-driven show diesHow wardrobe, set design, and thumbnail direction are all positioning decisions, not aesthetic onesWhy YouTube Promotions is a shotgun when you need a rifle - and what to run insteadWhat it looks like to promote a podcast the way a media network would, not the way a creator does"Cold caking," typewriter thank-you notes, and building moments of delight into the guest experienceThe guest promotion handoff most shows get wrong -- and the simple fix
