- 6880 - Labor unlikely to deliver on its promise to halve immigration
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's pledge to halve immigration this financial year is under scrutiny, potentially leading to accusations of breaking an election promise.
He had committed to reducing the net overseas intake to 250,000 in 2024-25. However, with 547,300 foreigners moving to Australia in 2023 and 482,450 migrants arriving in the year to May, achieving this target seems unlikely.
Mike is joined by Saxon Davidson from the Institute of Public Affairs, who highlights that recent data suggests Labor may struggle to fulfill its promise.
"The latest ABS data confirms the federal government is simply not interested in
delivering on its promise to reduce Australia's record migration surge, and will
dramatically overshoot its net overseas migration commitment", he says.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Tue, 23 Jul 2024 - 6868 - Watch out, Labor set to ‘savage’ family businesses
In the US, both political parties support aspiration and family businesses. In contrast, Australia has chosen to target family businesses adversely.
Alarmingly, most of Australia’s 2.5 million family enterprises, employing around five million people, are unaware of the impending impact from the Albanese government.
Mike is joined by Business Columnist Robert Gottliebsen from The Australian, who explains that new legislation will require these businesses to share management control with union delegates, disrupting their decision-making process and harming productivity.
While large enterprises can manage this change, family businesses, which rely on trust and efficiency, will struggle, Mr Gottliebsen says.

Tue, 23 Jul 2024 - 6867 - Restoring the presumption of innocence
Australia’s leading group representing mothers of falsely accused men has called for recognition of the injustice they face in our biased court system captured by believe-all-women justice.
Mothers of Sons says fear of retribution has prevented too many legal experts, journalists, media commentators, academics and impacted families from speaking out about this issue which is causing harm to many Australian men every year.
Victims of appalling injustice in our courts, including family members from some of Australia’s most famous false allegations cases, will join academics and experts for an historic one-day conference event in Sydney on August 31, 2024, entitled Restoring the Presumption of Innocence.
The conference, hosted by Australians for Science and Freedom and sponsored by Mothers of Sons, is aimed at people everywhere concerned about fair treatment under the law. The organisers specifically hope to attract the parents of young men who are particularly vulnerable to false sexual assault allegations.
Mike is joined by Bettina Arndt, men’s rights advocate, media commentator & one of the founders of 'Mothers of Sons', who says "The media’s unwillingness to address the other side of this cultural phenomenon must end.”
“The public mood has shifted radically since recent high-profile cases have put the spotlight on wrongful accusations, and the media and political elites simply aren't keeping up. To prevent more suffering and injustice we need to have a much more mature and balanced public debate.”
*The Restoring the Presumption of Innocence Conference is on Saturday August 31, 2024 8.30am - 5.00pm Rushcutters Bay, Sydney.

Tue, 23 Jul 2024 - 6866 - What’s happened to Australian humour?
Mike is joined by Dr. Rachel Matthews, an author, social commentator, and university lecturer, to discuss the complexities of modern comedy and how she navigates what is considered funny today.
Dr. Matthews notes that humor is a core part of Australian identity, from Barry Humphries' iconic wit to Hannah Gadsby's contemporary insights. Despite this, she observes that digital pressures, global challenges, and the rise of wokeism pose significant threats to traditional humor.
In her writing and creative writing classes, Dr. Matthews explores the nuances of humor, particularly dark comedy. She examines what makes a joke timeless, what ensures the success of dark comedy or tragicomedy, and what renders a joke distasteful.

Tue, 23 Jul 2024 - 6864 - Cooking with Sarah Boorer
Mike Jeffreys is joined by Sarah Boorer, Communications professional & CWA award-winning cook, to look at the world of baked goods, delicious treats and & easy recipes.
This week Sarah whips up Chocolate fondant (recipe courtesy bbcgoodfood.com)
Ingredients
50g melted butter, for brushing cocoa powder, for dusting
200g good-quality dark chocolate, chopped into small pieces
200g butter, in small pieces
200g golden caster sugar 4 eggs and 4 yolks
200g plain flour
Caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream or orange sorbet, to serveMethod
STEP 1 First get your moulds ready. Using upward strokes, heavily brush melted
butter (use 50g in total) all over the inside of the pudding mould. Place the mould in
the fridge or freezer. Brush more melted butter over the chilled butter, then add a
good spoonful of cocoa powder into the mould. Tip the mould so the powder
completely coats the butter. Tap any excess cocoa back into the jar, then repeat
with the next mould.STEP 2 Place a bowl over a pan of barely simmering water, then slowly melt 200g
good-quality dark chocolate and 200g butter, both chopped into small pieces,
together. Remove the bowl from the heat and stir until smooth. Leave to cool for
about 10 mins.STEP 3 In a separate bowl whisk 4 eggs and 4 egg yolks together with 200g golden
caster sugar until thick and pale and the whisk leaves a trail; use an electric whisk if
you want. Sift 200g plain flour into the eggs, then beat together.STEP 4 Pour the melted chocolate into the egg mixture in thirds, beating well
between each addition, until all the chocolate is added and the mixture is completely
combined to a loose cake batter.STEP 5 Tip the fondant batter into a jug, then evenly divide between the moulds.
The fondants can now be frozen for up to a month and cooked from frozen. Chill for
at least 20 mins or up to the night before. To bake from frozen, simply carry on as
stated, adding 5 mins more to the cooking time.STEP 6 Heat oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6. Place the fondants on a baking tray,
then cook for 10-12 mins until the tops have formed a crust and they are starting to
come away from the sides of their moulds. Remove from the oven, then leave to sit
for 1 min before turning out.STEP 7 Loosen the fondants by moving the tops very gently so they come away
from the sides, easing them out of the moulds. Tip each fondant slightly onto your
hand so you know it has come away, then tip back into the mould ready to plate up.STEP 8 Starting from the middle of each plate, squeeze a spiral of caramel sauce –
do all the plates you need before you go on to the next stage.STEP 9 Sit a fondant in the middle of each plate. Using a large spoon dipped in hot
water, scoop a ‘quenelle’ of ice cream.STEP 10 Carefully place the ice cream on top of the fondant, then serve
immediately. Repeat with the rest of the fondants.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Mon, 22 Jul 2024 - 6859 - Bridgerton fans petition for white & heterosexual
Do only heterosexual skinny white people deserve love?
Bridgerton fans seem to think so. When Julia Quinn, the author of Bridgerton, agreed to change a heterosexual character to a lesbian one, over 40,000 fans protested. They opposed including lesbians in Regency England, preferring the show to remain white and heterosexual, excluding queer audiences.
This season's lead, Nicola Coughlan, has also faced attacks for her body size, with comments claiming a "fat girl winning the prince" is implausible. With WHO research indicating 43% of adults are overweight, such fans seem to believe nearly half the world doesn't deserve love.
Mike is joined by dating coach Karina Chapman & founder of Aligned Connections, who asserts that all singles, regardless of size, race, or sexuality, deserve love and that diversity should be celebrated, not attacked.

Thu, 18 Jul 2024 - 6844 - Reflections of pandemic peacefulness
Do you feel like you were less stressed a couple of years ago, after slowing down and having more ‘me time’ due to the pandemic?
Clinton is joined by Dr Marny Lishman, health & community psychologist, about a new study that has found that eastern Australian humpback whales were healthier and less stressed during the first year of Covid, when human activity on the ocean was limited, and many of us are resonating with this study.
Since getting back to 'normal' the world is ramping up again, and so are human interactions, which equate to more stress and more pressure.
When feeling stressed and burned out, it's helpful to reflect on what you were doing when you felt calmer and more at peace - were you spending more time relaxing?
More time engaging in hobbies? Spending more time with loved ones and less time sitting in traffic?
These reflections can help you slow down and in turn, reduce your stress levels.

Clinton Maynard is joined by Sarah Boorer, Communications professional & CWA award-winning cook, to look at the world of baked goods, delicious treats and & easy recipes.
This week Sarah whips up One pot creamy tomato beef pasta (recipe courtesy recipetineats.com)
Ingredients
1 1/2 tbsp olive oil
2 garlic cloves , finely minced
1 onion , finely chopped
500g/ 1 lb beef mince / ground beef
2 tsp Italian herbs
2 tbsp tomato paste
400g/ 14 oz can crushed tomatoes (or tomato passata)
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (chilli flakes, optional)
1 1/2 tsp cooking salt/kosher salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
4 cups (1 L) chicken stock/broth , low sodium
350g/ 12oz fusilli, penne, elbow macaroni or other short pasta
3/4 cups thickened / heavy creamServing:
Parmesan cheese , finely grated
Parsley , finely chopped, optionalInstructions
1. Sauté - Heat the oil on high heat in a large heavy-based pot. Cook garlic and
onion for 1 1/2 minutes.
2. Cook beef & seasonings - Add beef and cook, breaking it up as you go, until
you can no longer see red meat. Add the Italian herbs and cook for 30
seconds, then add tomato paste and cook for 1 minute to cook out the raw
flavour.
3. All in - Add crushed tomato, chicken stock, salt, pepper and red pepper
flakes, if using. Stir, then add the pasta.
4. Cook 15 min - Bring the liquid to a simmer, then cook for 15 minutes, stirring
every couple of minutes then more frequently towards the end (ensure pasta
doesn't stick to base) until the pasta is just about cooked.
5. Creamy - Add cream, then simmer for a further 1 to 2 minutes. It will still be
quite saucy - this is what you want! Pasta absorbs liquid quickly, so it will still
be nice and oozy when you start eating.
6. Serve - Remove from the stove. Give it a good stir then ladle into bowls. Serve
with parmesan and parsley.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Mr Taylor states that Trump's protection team should not have allowed him to stand and expose himself after the initial cover.
The now iconic image of Trump with his fist raised, shirt open, and face bloodied posed a risk of a second shooter and security protocols should have kept Trump low and covered for evacuation.
Trump's decision to pause and pump his fist was an unacceptable risk for media coverage as future security measures at rallies may include bulletproof barriers and increased surveillance of rooftop areas.

Wegovy and Ozempic, touted as magic bullets for weight loss and used by celebrities like Elon Musk, Rebel Wilson, and Oprah Winfrey, have been making headlines.
Weight-loss jabs have already been linked with 20 deaths across Britain, and many
people have been left severely unwell after using them.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Sun, 14 Jul 2024 - 6815 - Emotions are just visitors that come and go
Mike is joined by Dr Marny Lishman, Health & Community Psychologist, who reveals while we often see anger as a negative emotion, it’s also a valid emotion that needs to be felt and understood.
If you’re on school holidays with the kids and you’ve taken them to see ‘Inside Out 2’
you’re teaching them a valuable lesson about every emotion having its place... including the ones we don’t like.“Anger is a primal emotion, and one we need for survival,” says Dr Lishman.
“When properly managed, it can become a powerful tool telling you about what’s working in your life, and what isn’t. My advice is don’t be afraid of it.
Movies like Inside Out teach us that emotions are just visitors that come and go depending on what’s happening in our lives.
The trick is to not bottle them

Sun, 14 Jul 2024 - 6812 - Shocking ignorance among Aussies about superannuation returns
Clinton is joined by Katrina McPhee, Chief of Staff at Aware Super, to discuss new research revealing that most Australians have little to no understanding of their current superannuation fund.
With the majority (81%) of Australians recalibrating their investments due to the cost-of-living crisis, the importance of effective financial planning is clear, with superannuation playing a pivotal role in securing future financial wellbeing.
However, Aussies are still in the dark about their super funds, with two in five (43%) Aussies not really understanding how their super is invested, and a third (31%) hardly thinking about how their fun is performing.
After delivering an impressive 11.02% for their most popular investment option, High Growth, last year, Aware Super is encouraging everyone to explore their super performance and the diverse options available to select the best fund for their needs.

Thu, 11 Jul 2024 - 6808 - Cooking with Sarah Boorer
Clinton Maynard is joined by Sarah Boorer, Communications professional & CWA award-winning cook, to look at the world of baked goods, delicious treats and & easy recipes.
This week Sarah whips up Chocolate Mousse (Adapted from Recipe Tin Eats to use double cream instead of whipped cream)
Ingredients
3 eggs
125g dark cooking chocolate, bittersweet / 70% cocoa
10g unsalted butter
1/2 cup Little Big Dairy double cream
3 tbsp caster sugar (superfine white sugar)
More double cream (to decorate)
Instructions
1. Separate eggs and yolks while eggs are cold. Place whites in a large bowl and
yolks in a small bowl. Leave whites while you prepare other ingredients. Yolks:
Whisk yolks until uniform.
2. Break chocolate into pieces and place in a microwave-proof bowl with the butter.
Melt in the microwave in 30 second bursts, stirring in between, until smooth. Set
aside to cool slightly while you continue with other steps.
3. Add sugar to egg whites. Beat whites until firm peaks form.
4. Fold egg yolks into Little Big Dairy double cream using a rubber spatula – 8 folds
max. Some streaks is fine.
5. At this point, the chocolate should still be runny but warm (min 35C; ideal 40C). If
too cool or thick, microwave in burst of 5 seconds at a time until runny.
6. Pour chocolate into cream yolk mixture. Fold through – 8 folds max. Some
streaks here are ok.
7. Add 1/4 of beaten egg whites into chocolate mixture. Fold through until
incorporated – "smear" the spatula across surface to blend white lumps in – aim for 10 folds.
8. Pour chocolate mixture into egg whites. Fold through until incorporated and no
more white lumps remain – aim for 12 folds max, but ensure there are no obvious
egg white patches.
9. Divide mixture between 4 small glasses or pots. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours,
preferably overnight.
10. To serve, garnish with more double cream.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Mike is joined by Tim Blaire, Columnist with Daily Telegraph, about reactions to Joe Biden's mental meltdown during last week's presidential debate, which he writes falls into three main camps.
First, the "no surprises here" group has been observing Biden's decline for years, seeing last week's incident as just another episode.
Second, the fake-shocked media, who have downplayed Biden's blunders for decades, now pretend his collapse was unexpected.
Lastly, the reality-deniers, who insist that despite his infirmity, Biden is a decent person who, unlike Trump, would never lie.

Sun, 07 Jul 2024 - 6790 - Israeli-Palestinian conflict's impact on global politics
Mike speaks with Dr. Tanveer Ahmed, Psychiatrist & Social Commentator, about how the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is galvanizing Islamic communities worldwide.
This issue has significant implications for upcoming Western elections, including in the UK, America, and Australia.
In Australia, tensions are evident with Senator Payman crossing the floor against her Labor Party, highlighting growing rifts within center-left parties trying to balance support for Israel with opposition to Palestinian suffering.
In Britain, where there are almost 4 million Muslims, the campaign group 'The Muslim Vote' aims to capitalize on this sentiment, evidenced by a drop in the Labor vote in recent council elections in areas with large Muslim populations.
In Australia, formerly safe Labor seats in western Sydney and parts of Melbourne are also under threat from independent candidates.

Thu, 20 Jun 2024 - 6785 - Sydney Trains put unclaimed lost property to good use
Clinton is joined by Maureen Clark, Executive Director Customer Experience at Sydney Trains, who are working to give unclaimed lost property new life by passing on near-
new items to charities in need.Sydney Trains collects approximately 50,000 lost property items left on trains and at
stations each year. Dedicated staff try extremely hard to reunite passengers with their personal property,
but sometimes items go unclaimed for months or even years.Sydney Trains has established a new partnership with Muru Mittigar, a proud Dharug
Aboriginal Social Enterprise in Western Sydney, to donate unclaimed lost property
items. Muru Mittigar is passing these items on to its community partner organisations
across the state. So far this year, Sydney Trains has donated: more than 100 bikes, more than 20
scooters, body boards and a selection of clothing, handbags, wallets and sports gear
like fishing rods, tennis rackets and balls. A variety of general goods were also
donated like, toys, sunglasses, umbrellas as well as household appliances like a rice
cooker, electric frying pan, a pedestal fan, a sandwich press and a Soda Stream.Brand new personal items like make-up, perfume, and creams were also included.

Thu, 20 Jun 2024 - 6784 - Uncontrolled dogs reigning terror on posties
Clinton is joined by Kathy Kopellis McLeod, Dog Behaviour Expert, about taking charge of your dog when posties enter your property is essential.
It’s not ok to allow your dog to push through the front door or wander freely outside the front of your house, and your dog isn’t allowed to roam the neighbourhood and be a menace in the community.
The difference between ensuring a postie stays safe from a dog attack lies with the dog’s human. To allow your dog access to chase, bite or knock a postie off his bike is not okay. Your dog is acting out due to its genes, experiences, and because its being territorial.
Such incidents can easily be prevented by behaving like a switched-on dog owner. Posties are understandably fed up and Australia Post has now warned it will stop delivering to homes with aggressive, uncontrolled dogs, it also reports all dog-related incidents to local councils.
