KaZkO is an Underground DJ & Producer from Sri Lanka. Whatever the time or place, he believes his music has to express feeling and this is something he tries to bring in his own productions and DJ sets. He’s also just signed with Nick Warren for The Soundgarden label, so we’re really happy to have him on our guest mix series. He joined the Electronic music scene in 2020 with his first Tech House record release, then dived into Progressive House, Melodic Techno and Afro-House in early 2021 and he won tremendous support across a broad spectrum of DJs and producers. "If I can offer people big smiles and tears of joy with my Music and my stage performance, that's the biggest achievement in my life." THIS MONTH, we have a special guest mix by the one and only, Richard Trout. Richard's also just signed up as one of our new 2023 residents - Amazing. Check out this 2 hour mix by the man himself. Richard first began DJing in the mid-'90s at the age of 16. Playing everything from breakbeat, techno, Italian house, jungle, and house. Along with a friend, he started a successful night in a local pub but grew out of the dance scene over time and learned to play the guitar. Being in several bands and playing hundreds of gigs over the years gave Richard a good knowledge of reading crowds. Around 3 years ago Richard rediscovered his love for house music and set about learning to play on digital equipment. Richard set up Transmission Lost, a listening platform for DJs to submit mixes to, and built up a group of residents and guests. Building on this Richard set up his own night called All Things House and has just announced his new night in 2023 called "Early Doors Disco" with PHUK and Lost In head honcho Danny Jarvis. Having played many clubs and festivals, with residencies on Saturo Sounds and Subcode radio Richard's a hard-working DJ whose star is really starting to shine!

Dave's mixes are always popular. Recently we chatted about the music he's playing and his take on 'Progressive'. As mentioned before Dave and I go way back so I'm always intrigued to get his insight and listen to what he's enjoying. "I still like to play good music, I'm hooked on Vivrant at the moment, Jeremy Olander's sound is always futuristic and alongside labels like Tale & Tone and Anjunabeats I like to hang between solid groove and the deeper emotional side of the sound. More than anything, I just like to have a rough plan and let the mix take me where I feel it should go". This mix is live from Richard's show on Saturo Sounds on 18th August. I was lucky enough to be asked to join Richard as his guest on the show, with the only promise I would provide a 'banger'. Looks like we both did! This is a shape of things to come as Richard and I have decided to come together and put private events on ourselves in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Watch this space!

The International Guest Mix (IMG.) series is all about collaboration and forging connections. Collaboration I believe is at the very heart of what lies beneath the underground progressive house music scene. Although progressive house seems to be a smaller genre here in the UK this is not the case across South America. Argentina in particular seems to have by far the biggest visible scene with stalwarts like Hernan Cattaneo and the UK's very own Nick Warren flying the flag and entertaining not hundreds but often tens of thousands in outdoor clubs and spaces to the envy of the world. However, Colombia, Mexico & Brazil to name a few have a healthy nu breed of DJs and producers putting out fantastic music constantly. However, just like here in the UK, there are DJs and producers working tirelessly to share the wonderful and varied style that progressive house spans. In Barranquilla Colombia, Ruben Rojano has been the man for many years to unite and push the progressive house scene. Like many of us on the underground scene, Ruben and I met online through the online community 'Super Progressive' brilliantly run by Willy Noglows. Willy has interviewed the cream of the crop from Paul Oakenfold, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Danny Tenaglia, Sander Klienenberg to Steve Lawler. Ruben and I are supremely lucky enough to share the same experience of doing their 'Backtracks' offshoot podcast series where we discuss our experience and history of our own origins of the music we love. I reached out to Ruben as a natural next choice to produce IMG.005 the follow-up to the superb IMG.004 from Denver-based U.S producer ORTICAAN, which kick-started the series again earlier this year. Ruben has nailed a perfectly neat and tidy 60-minute mix. It's intelligent, subtly paced with excellent track selection and builds gently gathering energy towards the finale. Massive thanks to Ruben for taking the time out to produce this mix for PHUK. The greatest thing about doing these projects is meeting people with the same burning passion for the music you love. The sixth and final chapter of the YANA Takeover on Subcode comes from Garry Howden, now based over in the U.S.A. A top-notch selection of tracks from Garry acts as the perfect closing set for the entire Resident team effort.

This month's outing is an out-and-out summer vibe mix, starting with Breakbeat courtesy of the wonderful Framewerk, which is a medley of some of my recent favourites, and into Organic House and twisted groove from then on. There are some Lost In Classics mixed into the set for good measure! Warning, exessive foot-tapping and dacning could result from listening to this mix!

This was mix three from the YANA Takeover on Subcode. It's another great journey from Dave this month and it's a solid tracklist to boot. He takes us through the gears in true progressive style; weaving in and out of slower and quicker tempos, lighter and deeper moods and guiding us through some tried and tested producers on some of the finest labels. Meet 'Intrinisic' Resident Milah - A British DJ who in the late 1990s was captivated by the mighty Cream in Liverpool following Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten. Inspired by the trance sound he started playing gigs for local promoters around the UK and before long began to explore his own production work. Milah's worked alongside up-and-coming producers in the past and after a long hiatus away from making his own music has revisited the idea of playing his own tracks in his sets once again. These days he follows a much more progressive sound and producers who have an element of the old 90s sound within their style. Artists such as Alfonso Muchacho, Woriskey, Ric Niels to name a few, have really ignited Milah's passion once again. He is a resident at Intrinsic, plays several times a month on twitch for other promoter events and has recently finished his degree in business management. With the degree firmly in the bag, he'll soon be smashing the production with his good friend and recent PHUK International Guest Orticaan! Watch out for his own tracks coming soon.

His mixes can be slower or faster, harder or more melodic and sometimes all of those together. One thing you can rely on for sure is he always produces the goods time after time. The infamous Guest Mix Series is back with a twist. Same criteria in terms of being a double CD (each CD an hour), any genre, or bpm or on any equipment. It's a real DJ challenge of focusing on an idea or theme rather than a trend or being constricted by any ridged rules. The Twist then? This year's series sees 2 DJs come together and work with one another to create their own theme and double mix album. This is what collaboration is all about. We're thrilled to see 2 DJs who worked together for the first time together on a project in 2019 come back to create their vision of Progressive 'Space' House music. A softer, more gentle trip this month as we move toward those light and warm summer evenings. I tend to lean toward the more Organic and deeper house vibe fused with the more laid back progressive sound. There are some beautiful vocal tracks in this mix with a good nod to the wonderful 'All Day I Dream' label and associated artists.

Master of the Deep (House); Nick's May mix once again heads away from the ever-popular trends down a more Fabric and dare I say it Back To Basics route. Chosen especially by PHUK, Nick always finds those rarer grooves and house licks that make him stand out.
