The latest video from Women4Wes. Then, in the second half, we listen to two songs by topical songsmiths the Marsh Family; one a Starmer-themed parody of Bowie's Starman, the other a grotesque Band Aid-style Christmas single about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Wed, 31 Jan 2024 - 38min - 412 - UNLOCKED: Episode 169 - Jewison & DeVito's Guide To Neoliberalism (Part 2: 1979-2003)
NOTE: This episode was originally released in October 2020 on patreon.com/reelpolitik, but we've decided to release it for free in light of Norman Jewison's death. We'd already made the first in this two-parter available for free on this very feed here: https://soundcloud.com/reelpolitikpodcast/unlocked-episode-168-jewison-the-mighty-fist-of-liberalism-pt-1. RIP Norman Jewison. ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Jack and Yair are back with the back half of Norman Jewison's filmography, picking up after F.I.S.T. (1978) with a quick breeze through his 1979-91 filmography, before getting deep into 1991's Other People's Money - a flawed but somewhat incisive portrait of a changing American capitalism starring an electric Danny DeVito as a Gordon Ghekko-type parasite - and Jewison's final film, 2003's The Statement, starring Michael Caine as an escaped Nazi war criminal. Plus - 1998's The Hurricane and the Bob Dylan song that inspired it.

Mon, 08 Jan 2024 - 13min - 409 - Episode 281 - What's the Deal (ft. FFF)

After an absence from the airwaves of several months to learn and grow, friend of the show Farages Fucked Face (@soldierpaypig) returns to provide expertise on comedy of somewhat dubious quality, through an even poorer quality mic.

Mon, 11 Dec 2023 - 03min - 406 - Episode 280 - The Obituary Section
A morbid episode this week, as Jack and Yair pour one out for the dearly departed trinity of Henry Kissinger, Shane MacGowan and Alistair Darling. PLUS cuts to the BBC's Newsnight, the resumption of violence in Gaza, & Starmer saying the best thing about Thatcher was the Thatcherism.

In addition, we check out a couple of other top Israeli cultural exports: a terrifying pro-genocide anthem sung by children, and an abusive voice message some IDF guy sent to Owen Jones, before looking at the brilliant satirical mind of Lee "Jam Econo" Kern.

Fri, 17 Nov 2023 - 1h 41min - 400 - PATREON PREVIEW: RP275-6 Extra
A preview of our last two patreon.com/reelpolitik exclusives, featuring a Jack/Yair discussion of Bill Maher from a full hour of chat by the deadly duo, followed by one from our new Jack/Geraint bonus episode, in which we run through all the dumb Hollywood celebs to have signed the pro-Israel open letter doing the rounds over there. Once again, for every numbered episode that appears on our main feed, we are now releasing an "RP Extra" - each effectively an episode in its own right. patreon.com/reelpolitik got the goods.
Fri, 10 Nov 2023 - 03min - 399 - Episode 277 - Armistice Weekend Special
In celebration of definitely-real phenomenon of "armistice weekend" and the glories of war, Jack and Geraint review Ian Brown's 2007 anti-Iraq War, anti-Israeli occupation, anti-child poverty protest album The World Is Yours, which contains brilliant Sinéad O'Connor-aided masterpiece 'Illegal Attacks', and some other songs. Jack then presents selected readings from Ice Cube's 2018 Trump diss 'Arrest the President'. This episode was originally planned to be our patreon.com/reelpolitik bonus for this week, before we realised we didn't have time to get a free one ready before the weekend. Don't worry, though, RP subs, you will still be getting new content in its place!
Thu, 09 Nov 2023 - 57min - 398 - Episode 276 - Concrete Facts

As requested by one listener, Geraint and Jack run down the rogue's gallery of right-wing shitbags and Sebags among the signatories of British pro-Israel petition "the October Declaration". Read and, if you're a supporter of apartheid and/or genocide, sign the October Declaration over at https://britishfriendsofisrael.org. Fri, 03 Nov 2023 - 1h 49min - 397 - PATREON PREVIEW: RP274 Extra
the long-awaited episode 274 now finally gets its equally long-awaited RP Extra, this time pretty much one as lengthy as a standard episode. we talk about Israel and Palestine for another half an hour or so, and then get on our Britrock shit and go deep on Ian Brown (more on him on a future RP Extra), Muse and Beady Eye, among others. this clip contains stuff about Rachel Reeves and, separately, Ian Brown. Jack, Geraint and Yair discuss the Labour Party's 2023 conference and, more importantly, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Fri, 20 Oct 2023 - 1h 42min - 394 - PATREON PREVIEW: RP273 Extra
Hear the full hour of material at https://www.patreon.com/posts/90652547 by subscribing to patreon.com/reelpolitik. Pretty substantive and more-focused-than-usual RP Extra here today, though, as Geraint and I spend the vast bulk of it investigating politically incorrect British comedian Jim Davidson's new streaming service USTREME ("laugh like you used to") and the incredible comments of an elderly Geordie man called Kenny underneath virtually all their content. To warm up, however, we look at all the times "rival" Apprentice hosts Donald Trump and Alan Sugar have engaged in online beef with one another. PUSH. Jack
Mon, 09 Oct 2023 - 07min - 393 - Episode 273 - The Modern Game
Jack and Geraint convene to talk about the Rory Stewart scandal, wherein the centrist ex-Tory and podcaster was the subject of antisemitism allegations after he issued the mildest possible defence of Jeremy Corbyn on constitutional grounds, and what this tells us about how consensus is constructed in British politics. Once that's out of the way, we move onto Americans' love of shooting people with their guns, and some of the latest broken Starmer pledges. We also wildly but - in hindsight - quite accurately speculate on the then-forthcoming Channel 4 Dispatches documentary on Russell Brand. NOTE: This is the third and final instalment of what can be loosely termed "The Dog Death Trilogy", with this episode literally being recorded on the night Jack's dog died. Hopefully forthcoming episodes will be less coloured by this tragic loss. As ever, get more @ patreon.com/reelpolitik
Thu, 05 Oct 2023 - 1h 10min - 392 - PATREON PREVIEW: RP271-2 Extra

Thu, 28 Sep 2023 - 16min - 391 - Episode 272 - My Dogz Iz My Gunz
This episode is dedicated to the memory of Remus the dog, a beloved pet of fourteen years, although it was recorded while he was still with us. Jack and Yair convene for a loose chat concerning new Labour MP Keir Mather and other millennial politicians, dangerous dogs and the work of Sticky Fingaz, Kanye's antisemitism era and subsequent going-to-ground, and - four years on - the moral panic surrounding the film Joker, and the character's prior portrayal by Jared Leto. PLUS: The Finnish PM's resignation to actually get shit done at the Tony Blair Institute For Global Change, and the American right's continued insistence that Obama is secretly gay. For an episode's worth of additional material for this and all other new episodes, sign up at patreon.com/reelpolitik.

Jack and Geraint are joined by official RP Welsh Correspondent Stefan AKA Shrieking Tinman AKA @phased_bemused to talk spooky Welsh politicians, the Pie/Doyle/Spiked comedy empire and wider network, so-called (by Geraint) "Starmer dogging rumours", before we do an in-depth reading of Anne McElvoy's recent Evening Standard article "Jeremy Corbyn is back and has much in common with Farage". Jack, Yair and Geraint review Louis Theroux's three-part BBC documentary series, "Forbidden America", which aired in February 2022 and covers the US far-right, trap and soundcloud rap, and the porn industry. Inevitably, we end up comparing these recent films to our more "gonzo" favourites from the Theroux back catalogue.
Sat, 19 Aug 2023 - 1h 32min - 383 - Episode 267 - Reading Pod Save America Episode Titles (ft. FFF)
In what can be construed as either another misguided attempt to break the American market, or an attempt to explain the peculiarities of American culture to our UK audience, Jack spends almost an hour reading the names of episodes of hit liberal podcast Pod Save America to an increasingly agitated FFF. NOTE: It took a lot of work to make FFF semi-intelligible on this one. Not only was his side of the conversation recorded in the worst quality in podcasting history, about the only thing clearly audible on his end was that he was drunk as shit. Reprehensible really. Subscribe to patreon.com/reelpolitik to get more of this convo, as well as additional material from ALL our recent episodes.
Tue, 08 Aug 2023 - 52min - 382 - PATREON PREVIEW: RP266 Extra (ft. Jude Wanga)
Subscribe at patreon.com/reelpolitik and get the full hour+ of additional material here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/rp266-extra-ft-87114740 AKA "British Blues Corner" My rationale for dividing up my 2-hour-and-change convo with our good friend Jude (@judeinlondon) was basically anything Bruce in the main episode, and anything non-Bruce in the Patreon one. It pretty much came to an hour and change either way. So if you don't like Bruce Springsteen, it's your lucky day. Unfortunately, if you don't like the Rolling Stones or Eric Clapton, you're shit out of luck, because there's a lot of both here. However, at a present-in-spirit-only Geraint's insistence I corralled Jude into going off about Starmer at the end, so those of you understandably consumed by hatred for the worst man alive can seek some solace in that. keep it real dawgz Jack
Thu, 03 Aug 2023 - 05min - 381 - Episode 266 - Tell 'Em Bruce Starmer Out (ft. Jude Wanga)
Friend of the show Jude Wanga (@judeinlondon) joins Jack to review the Bruce Springsteen & the E-Street Band show they saw at Hyde Park last month. Jack also talks a bit about his own grand return to live musical performance at his friend's wedding. Following a misguided attempt to crack the American market, Jack and Geraint desperately try and cling onto their remaining UK fans with a tight hour of Blairite-bashing and Starmer-slagging.
Wed, 19 Jul 2023 - 1h 01min - 377 - WaterGape (GAPECAST #10) - Linear Edit
The original tenth GAPECAST from 2020, newly reedited and de-Memento-fied so the scenes take place in CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER and the narrative MAKES SENSE! In GAPECAST #10, we rewind to December 2019, in the aftermath of the corrupt rigged election that replaced Gapes as Ilford South MP with Corbyn's Candidate, Sam Tarry. Written once again by seasoned Ilford hack Jimothy Baker (currently scribbling away in prison like Gramsci), this episode documents one of the biggest scandals to rock Ilford politics since that depicted in our previous GAPECAST.

Frequent RP guest Juliet Jacques returns to the show to expand on her 2020 Red Pepper article 'How Corbyn unmasked comedy' (https://www.redpepper.org.uk/how-corbyn-unmasked-comedy/) in a discussion of the generation of British comedians and satirists who emerged in the 1990s from under the wing of two titans, Chris Morris and Armando Iannucci, following their mock news show On The Hour's successful transition from radio to television as The Day Today. We look at their many shows and films, the political milieu they came out of, their key collaborators, and ask when - or if - it all went wrong for these anti-establishment firebrands.

Mon, 29 May 2023 - 3h 08min - 367 - Episode 258 - Back On Top (ft. FFF)
After spending Too Long In Exile, we are now BACK ON TOP. Following a brief film chat, Jack, Yair, Geraint and FFF dive straight into this political world with discussion of the latest lies of #SirSmearStarmer and his goon James O'Brien, Woke Elon's latest attempt to silence Jack for his right-wing views, the anti-democratic (Starmer was there) coronation, and - most importantly of all - Mike Gapes' readmission to the Labour Party. Finally, we spend about 45 straight minutes riffing on the historic Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens-Salman Rushdie beef.
Tue, 16 May 2023 - 1h 44min - 366 - Episode 257 - Too Long In Exile
Jack, Yair and Geraint are back from another period in the wilderness to spit some real hard left politics, both on the ongoing Starmer situation and in our new, wholly unique segment "America Corner". We also go in on the bizarre convergence of the left-wing Socialist Campaign Group and the not-left-wing Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme, and - in spite of the rockin' artwork and Van Morrison-inspired title - barely talk about classic rock at all. Look out for more exclusive episodes coming soon (in addition to our considerable back catalogue) to patreon.com/reelpolitik
Tue, 25 Apr 2023 - 1h 38min - 365 - Episode 256 - A Right Hunt But A Proper Legend
Jack and Yair kick off an exciting series of RP2023 with a detailed dissection of the British TV dramas Life On Mars (2006-7) and its spinoff/sequel series Ashes To Ashes (2008-10), and their iconic "Clarkson but it's ok because he's not real" antihero Gene Hunt. We talk about how the shows contrast the rough and rowdy days of the '70s and '80s with the sort of radical leftist woke culture of the late Tony Blair era, and how they pointed the way towards David Cameron's straight-talking, honest 2010s. Along the way, we check in on the American and Russian remakes and assess what they got right and wrong (shocker, we come out more pro-Russia on this.)
Wed, 25 Jan 2023 - 1h 34min - 364 - Episode 255 - Glittermen (ft. FFF)

Tue, 29 Nov 2022 - 57min - 361 - Episode 251 - Queen Fatigue (ft. FFF)
After getting the lowdown from Ilford South investigative journalist Jimothy Baker on the reaction in Ilford South to the death of the queen, Jack, Geraint, and special guest Farages Fucked Face were all queened out and wanted to talk about pretty much anything else than the topic at hand. Instead: the 1996 Prince's Trust benefit concert at Hyde Park, the evolution, or devolution, of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band, Fat Cops uppercase and otherwise, and albums of recorded music by professional wrestlers. PLUS: a little bit on the bombshell Al Jazeera docuseries the Labour Files, which none of us had seen when we recorded this.

Mon, 05 Sep 2022 - 1h 09min - 356 - PATREON PREVIEW: Episode 246 - All We Want Is Revenge
Since we released all our stuff with SIR BANE QC as this week's free ep, we thought we'd dig into the RP Archives for its concurrent subscriber exclusive, with this unreleased episode recorded by Jack and Geraint around the time of the May local elections. The release was held up by some audio issues on Geraint's end, and then the fucking police covered up the crimes of Keirdelwald and rendered our whole conversation kind of dated. Still, the main points hold up - fuck Keir Starmer, all we want is revenge. Subscribe over at patreon.com/reelpolitik to hear the whole thing and many, many more exclusives besides.
Thu, 11 Aug 2022 - 06min - 355 - Episode 245 - Crimes and Misdemeanors (ft. @BaneNook)

After a discussion of the hated Mister Kieth's (8x) run-in with the Parliamentary Standards Commission, the Forde discussion - drawing on all the legal expertise our boy Bane has to offer - begins in earnest at about 45 mins in. Song at start and close is Jack's official RP tie-in cover of the Everly Brothers' 1968 single MILK TRAIN.

Jack and Yair engage in some now quite outdated talk about the latest exploits of Fucking French Cunt Macron, then talk about how hip-hop is still the most anti-establishment genre of music, before Yair guides the listeners through some of the highlights of the China state affiliated media he has been exploring in considerable depth For another hour of new material go to patreon.com/reelpolitik, subscribe, and hear the rest of this conversation!

- 349 - Episode 241 - Scratch A Liberal, Get A...
Jack & Yair return from a lengthy sojourn to go equally at length on film, touching on auteurist false advertising, early 2010s liberal imperialist crowdpleasers such as torture advertorial Zero Dark Thirty, the comparatively inoffensive Argo, and their earlier antecedent, Steven Spielberg's Munich, all the grouching about liberal melts you'd expect as a consequence, plus Shakespeare adaptations, the new documentary about reviled criminal Sir Jimmy Starmer, and the Albuquerque meth scene extended universe. Go to patreon.com/reelpolitik to hear another brand new film episode, this one focusing on king of family-friendly Christian entertainment MARKY MARK and his Boston ideology.
Fri, 17 Jun 2022 - 1h 17min - 348 - 'The Sacking of Carthage' (a song by Graveyard Goat Family)
Got you! Know you saw on your feed that Reel Politik had a new track and thought it was an episode. It's actually a comeback for a different project that falls under the wider RP Corp Intl umbrella. Graveyard Goat Family are effectively a rebrand of the previous musical project of RP host Jack Frayne-Reid, Crazy Moose, with no set lineup but more of an emphasis on collaboration with other musicians. Do you know how to rock? That musician could be you... Anyway, we will be collecting some choice tracks recorded for the unreleased (except for subscribers to patreon.com/reelpolitik) third and, for now, final Crazy Moose album, THE AGE OF ASTRAY, along with a handful of new ones, into a new album of the same name, which will function as GGF's debut LP. The painting by RP co-host Yair Rice that adorns this track will be the album cover, and this will likely be the closing song. RP listeners should be heartened that it is sort of about the cruel death of left-wing politics in Britain. GRAVEYARD GOAT FAMILY (on this recording) ARE: Jack Frayne-Reid - Guitars, vocals, organ, shakers DM (anonymous) - Bass, drums Yair Rice - Artwork
Wed, 15 Jun 2022 - 04min - 347 - Episodes 223/5 - Got Blunt. Got Weed./The Tree Of No Life (UNLOCKED)
Happy 4/20 to all RPheads! As a special treat for all our loyal listeners in Gape Nation - no doubt inveterate tokers to a man - we present a special omnibus edition of our two-part investigation into the stoner movie subgenre from last year. Original episode one description: This episode is about stoner movies. Lowest common denominator stuff. Movies that are just about weed. Movies where weed solves everything. What more do we need to say? How High. Half Baked. Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay, the single most searing satire of Bush-era America. They're all here. Tune in, toke up, drop out. Part one of two. Original episode two description: part 2 of the great Jack/Yair stoner movie extravaganza. after a brief sidetrack on netflix's particular brand of woke capitalism (for the avoidance of doubt, it's the "capitalism" part we're against rather than the "woke" part) this time we go through some of the more debatably stoner-oriented films on the genre's wikipedia page, look back at two shows that perfected the stoner comedy form through the medium of television rather than film, and spend an inordinate amount of time discussing late period Kevin Smith. Subscribe over at patreon.com/reelpolitik to hear more exclusive, fully fleshed out episodes like this, and much more besides.
Wed, 20 Apr 2022 - 2h 02min - 346 - Episode 237 - Mike Love, Asshole (UNLOCKED)
Jack draws on extensive Beach Boys research to regale Yair with tales of their famously awful frontman and artistic parasite, Mike Love, and why we must all suffer for Mike Love's art. NOTE - We have opted for the Americanised "asshole", as is the common parlance when discussing Mike Love, as a quick Google search of "Mike Love asshole" will bear out, once you've sifted through all the pornography. Similar results to "Mike Gapes" really. Subscribe to the RP Patreon today at patreon.com/reelpolitik to hear the second part, along with an extra half hour of material from the sessions for our 238th episode.

Sat, 26 Mar 2022 - 17min - 344 - Episode 238 - Ain't Marching Anymore
Once again, leftists are being asked "will you condemn?" about things we either needn't or have already condemned. Jack, Yair and Geraint reiterate that we are under no obligation to prove our leftist credentials by becoming neocons, then revisit a very funny Twitter brouhaha concerning the Mouth of Sauron, and Keir Starmer's extensive history with tax-dodging law firm (capital F Firm, if you Grisham Heads get me!!) Mishcon de Reya. Subscribe to patreon.com/reelpolitik today to hear another entirely new episode, this one about what a prick Mike Love from the Beach Boys is. As ever, we are taking on the real issues head on.
Thu, 24 Mar 2022 - 1h 10min - 343 - UNLOCKED: Episode 234 - SuperTankies
Recorded immediately prior to Patreon exclusive KRPFM's Sounds of the Seventies Vol. 1, the boys (in this case Jack, Yair and Geraint) get together for the first time in 2022 to just talk some shit about our political foes, from grifting viral "satirists" to nuke-loving Open Labour uwu bellends, to the despicable Sir Tony Blair himself. We also get sidetracked talking about paedophiles for like half an hour, which Jack does his best to stop, but comprehensively fails. Produced by Yair. For more stuff like this, kindly subscribe over @ patreon.com/reelpolitik and give us the will to go on!
Sat, 19 Feb 2022 - 1h 19min - 342 - Episode 235 - Questions To AnswerSat, 12 Feb 2022 - 56min
- 341 - Episode 233 - Ilford South Park (ft. @phased_bemused)
Comrade, rock 'n' roller, sometime Desolation Radio host and Welshman Stefan AKA "Shrieking Tinman" (@phased_bemused on the Twitter) joins Jack, Yair and Geraint to talk about the legacy of South Park and its ceaselessly vulgar brand of social commentary; whether it really curdled the brains of a generation, whether it has now truly "gone woke", and whether co-creator/sole writer & director Trey Parker is the Pasolini of post-1997 America.
Sun, 23 Jan 2022 - 1h 59min - 340 - UNLOCKED: Episode 230 - Bond #1
In the first instalment of a multipart series, Jack, Tom and Yair go deep on the first six James Bond films, plus 1981's non-canonical return to the franchise by Sean Connery, the MacGruberesquely titled Never Say Never Again. Our appraisal of the entire Roger Moore era has already been recorded, and we plan to enlist Geraint to help us discuss the last three James Bonds - Dalton, Brosnan, and Connery - before Christmas. Peace! Produced by Yair. For more episodes like this, and our brand new classic rock radio format, go to patreon.com/reelpolitik and subscribe.
Tue, 11 Jan 2022 - 46min - 339 - HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! (A Sinan Kose Stream ft. Jack, FFF and various)
Please enjoy this audio of the last 2.5 hours of Sinan Kose's New Year's Eve Twitch stream ft. Jack, FFF, nparticipacion, Juliet Jacques, @uslu_em, John Duncan, Jordan Hartley & more (genuinely struggling to remember, there were so many people). This, however, is only the Jack-featuring portion of the stream, although he's somewhat absent for a bit towards the start while he (off mic) eats some sausages and chips. Anyway, it gets really fun - we talk about Mike Hookem punching out his UKIP colleague in 2016, how Mike Gapes jokes are if anything the most moral thing in the world, and all sorts of other shit. Jack even gets the old guitar out to sing Auld Lang Syne and, er, Come Out Ye Black And Tans. FFF is on it, so you can imagine Sinan had some good reason to bin it off his Twitch channel. Thankfully, we lack his rigorous editorial standards.
Mon, 10 Jan 2022 - 2h 12min - 338 - Episode 232 - Ringo Rama (ft. Lilly @mothcub_)
Jack reviews GET BACK (Peter Jackson, 2019) - this year's 7.5hr Disney+ docuseries about the making of the Beatles' Let It Be album in 1969 - with help from youtuber, artist, and fellow Beatles fan Lilly AKA mothcub, who you can find on Twitter @mothcub_ and on YouTube simply as mothcub. We end up talking a lot about solo Ringo Starr. This episode also features covers by Jack - who produced it - of The Ballad of John & Yoko (Lennon/McCartney), How Do You Sleep? (Lennon) and Let It Be (McCartney/Lennon.)
Fri, 24 Dec 2021 - 2h 06min - 337 - Episode 229 - Bizarre & Frankly Unacceptable
Jack and Geraint present your semi-regular RP politics roundup ON: Sir Keir Starmer's ultra-Blairite new shadow cabinet and appointment of David Blunkett to an advisory role, newly surfaced evidence of Jeffrey Epstein hanging out at the Queen's private Balmoral pad, the typically vapid annual British Journalism Awards, and - on a less political note for this politics roundup - the death of great reggae bassist Robbie Shakespeare, which inspires us to look back on Tory singer-songwriter Gary Barlow's most Tory album ever. PLUS we read some of Bob Dylan's Gapesiest lyrics.
Sun, 12 Dec 2021 - 1h 49min - 336 - PATREON PREVIEW: Episode 228 - Three Non-Bonds
Subscribe over at patreon.com/reelpolitik to hear the full hour of material (plus a bonus 20 mins of dope Dylan covers!) Jack, Yair and TOM (not disso! original tom!) did a long recording where we covered every James Bond until Timothy Dalton, at which point Tom's internet crapped out, and Jack and Yair decided to talk about non-Bond movies for a bit in his stead. don't worry, though! Tom does appear here, as we edited together the non-Bond (are you getting the title now? there's three of us, and we're not talking James Bond) film discussion from after he left with our catch-up with Tom from before we really got into the issue you at hand. Yair recommends 'Love Liza' starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, and a bunch of cool foreign cinema. Jack bitches about the Eternals discourse and gets annoyed at someone for contradicting something he said on Twitter about Bob Dylan. WARNING: Contains a modicum of Van Morrison/Clapton discussion.
Wed, 08 Dec 2021 - 08min - 335 - PATREON PREVIEW: Episode 227 - Some Kind of Lenster (ft. Sinan Kose)
Hear this full episode and much more by subscribing at patreon.com/reelpolitik For 80 mins (ok, some of which is dedicated to Turkish pastries and Metallica) Jack & Sinan (@TheSinanKose on Twitter, @SKTheCrusader on Twitch) go EVEN DEEPER into Len McCluskey's Always Red: his feud with the hated Tom Watson, his feud with the hated Gerard Coyne, and OUR feud with the hated Stephen Bush, on whom we do a reading series of sorts. Seriously, though, skip through that first 20 mins if you don't want to hear the discussion of Mediterranean delicacies and Metallica.
Thu, 02 Dec 2021 - 09min - 334 - Episode 226 - Under The Always Red Sky (ft. Sinan Kose)
Further thoughts from Jack and friend of the show Sinan Kose (@SKTheCrusader on Twitch and @TheSinanKose on Twitter) on former Unite the union general secretary Len McCluskey's recent memoir Always Red, which we first reviewed on Sinan's stream recently. In these highlights from a longer conversation (more of which will be available tonight on the RP Patreon) we talk about the unique bind of Brexit on the left, the differences in political strategy between McCluskey and his (also left-wing) successor Sharon Graham, and go through McCluskey's account of his relationship with Keir Starmer the suspension of Jeremy Corbyn from the Labour Party. In addition to a further hour and a half or so of material at patreon.com/reelpolitik very shortly, you can listen to our initial review of McCluskey's book at https://soundcloud.com/reelpolitikpodcast/reviewing-len-mccluskeys-always-red-a-sinan-kose-stream-w-jack-frayne-reid or on this very feed on your podcast app of choice.

Mon, 08 Nov 2021 - 07min - 331 - Episode 224 - Cocaine Christianity (Donda Pt. 1 ft. @aarjanistan)
Fellow left-wing podcaster Aarjan (@aarjanistan) joins Jack and tom disso (@nailheadparty) to get into a long-awaited discussion of Kanye West's (or Ye's, as I guess we're supposed to call him now) most recent studio album DONDA, a fascinating record in equal parts ambitious and overstuffed, inspired and incoherent. We talk about how early 2010s EDM is already the most dated music in history, Kanye's immense struggle to write lyrics after expending so much effort proving himself as an MC, and the similarities between his outlook on the world and that of the Taliban. NOTES: Quality improves drastically after the first few minutes. We recorded like three and a half hours of this shit, so there's probably two more episodes to come.
Fri, 29 Oct 2021 - 1h 20min - 330 - Labour Conference Shitshow Special - A Sinan Kose Stream
Jack joined friend of the show Sinan Kose's epic "chaos stream" in the wake of last month's Labour conference to discuss the ways that Starmer used it as an opportunity to railroad the left - this recording covers the stream from the point at which he joined the conversation. It treads similar thematic ground to our recent episode with Tom Blackburn, which you should check out, along with Sinan's Twitch stream at twitch.tv/skthecrusader, and his Twitter account @TheSinanKose.

Tue, 12 Oct 2021 - 05min - 328 - Episode 222 - Thrillingly Blairite (ft. Tom Blackburn @malaiseforever)
Jack and Geraint are joined by guru of Reel Politik Thought Tom Blackburn (@malaiseforever on Twitter), a writer and editor for New Socialist and contributor to Tribune and the Guardian. Tom breaks down the labyrinthine political developments that took place over the week or so surrounding Labour's annual conference, in which Kieth Starmer delivered an endless speech written by the *politically* bald Phil Collins and rigged the party rules to shut the left out of the leadership indefinitely. Tom is an informed and erudite voice on any number of political matters, and especially the (arduous) struggle for socialism within the Labour Party, so those who want a clear-eyed take on Starmer's right-wing ideological project should check this episode out: along the way we read ridiculous pieces by Robert Peston, by Tanya Gold for the-other-cow-site (alongside mikegapes.co.uk) Unherd, and some stuff from the now-buried leaked Labour report into how the party's right purposefully threw elections while Corbyn was leader.
Thu, 07 Oct 2021 - 1h 25min - 327 - Episode 221 - Late Python (ft. Will Sloan)
Jack and Geraint are joined by Toronto's preeminent man of letters Will Sloan, co-host of the Michael & Us - @michael-and-us - and Important Cinema Club - @the-important-cinema-club - podcasts*, who tweets @WillSloanEsq. The topic of the day is the late period work of six of comedy's grandest old lions in winter - well, five really, as Graham Chapman died in 1989 at the age of only 48; yes, the old men whose turn it is to cop that trademark RP smoke today are the Monty Python team, and the work they've made both together and apart since their final feature film as a team, 1983's The Meaning of Life. We look at their varying approaches to coasting on past glories and - inspired by John Cleese and Terry Gilliam's sad decline into "you can't say anything these days" reactionary grumbling - the politics of Python. Their various reunions and semi-reunions are addressed, in addition to Eric Idle's appointment of himself as unofficial custodian of the group's legacy, steering them in an extremely lucrative kind of "Elvis in Vegas", Python-in-a-sparkly-suit, light entertainment type direction. We also relive the time Will bullied Idle off Twitter in argument over Jeremy Corbyn. *those @s are for our fellow soundcloud users.
Sun, 03 Oct 2021 - 1h 58min - 326 - Episode 220 - The Immortal Science of Marxism-Dylanology (ft. Rhian E Jones)
Writer, Red Pepper co-editor, and repeat RP guest Rhian E Jones - author of the new book Paint The Town Red and co-host of the Handbags & Gladrags podcast - joins Jack for a long-promised Dylanological summit, inspired in particular by his recent "livestream" performance Shadow Kingdom and the new, 16th, edition of his Bootleg Series, Springtime In New York (which features rare tracks from 1980-5.) We talk about the enormously creatively vibrant Infidels era, the lyrical peaks of 2001's "Love & Theft", how 2020's Rough & Rowdy Ways (reviewed previously on this show) proved that he's still got it, and his truly career-spanning setlist on the - final to date - 2019 leg of the Never Ending Tour. Thu, 23 Sep 2021 - 2h 05min - 325 - Episode 219 - Papa Loach
After a short hiatus for most of August, RP is back on the hype. Yair is back from paternity leave, and joins Jack and Geraint to discuss a trifecta of pivotal political matters: firstly, we celebrate the delicious defeat of the dastardly Gerard Coyne in the Unite General Secretary election. Then - taking up the bulk of the episode - we discuss the insidious political persecution and cruel vilification of legendary socialist, Britain's greatest filmmaker, Ken Loach. Finally, we yuk it up about Geronimo the Alpaca (RIP) and then do about 5 unplanned minutes on Netflix's shitty Woodstock '99 doc.
Tue, 07 Sep 2021 - 1h 46min - 324 - PATREON PREVIEW - The Foot Fist Way: An RP Audio Commentary ft. FFF
Go to patreon.com/reelpolitik to hear the full movie commentary and bonus half hour or so of chatter at the following link: https://www.patreon.com/posts/54719661 Despite being a huge fan of Danny McBride's work with his writing partner and director Jody Hill, I'd never seen the low-budget McBride/Hill debut flick The Foot Fist Way (2006), about a loser martial arts instructor with broadly the standard Danny McBride persona, with all that entails. My own GapeCast writing partner (season two is coming!) Farages Fucked Face insisted on showing it to me, and he asked if we could stream our hangout on Twitch. This, of course, meant I had no choice but to get my own bootlegging rig going (a free program called "mp3 skype recorder") to record it in far better quality than any of the ten viewers on FFF's Twitch would've got at the time (we forgot to advertise it). I liked the film a lot, and once it was finished we kept talking for a while about our comedy inspirations and some of the shit they've got themselves into over time, like Matt Damon and DaBaby have recently, in a segment I like to call 'Casters On Couches Doing Cannabis. Peace & love, Jack NOTE ON LISTENABILITY: Early on in the recording, I cease the hilarious observations and bon mots in order to eat a sandwich, and then eat lots of crisps and sweets. This is mostly within a fairly short space of time, so, as I advise in the recording, just skip ahead if that's not your idea of ASMR. This is also not a great commentary to watch the film along with, as mine and FFF's copies of the film go out of sync at times (as much as I tried to remedy this live in the minute), and the link we were streaming from kept freezing (I tried to cut out as much "for fuck's sake it's frozen" and talk about what link to go on as possible, but it means that the commentary won't run concurrently with the film after a certain point.
Wed, 11 Aug 2021 - 07min - 323 - Episode 218 - RAM! Jam! Fuck You, Maan! (UNLOCKED ft. tom disso)
We promised that our epic dive into Ruth and Martin's Album Club - episode 217: the RP RAM Album Club Club - was only a taste of what we'd recorded with tom disso on the subject. True to our word, here's another full episode (not some skimpy 20 min "Bonus RP" type shit) in which we address two of the worst RAM Album Club reviews of all: Chris Addison's spectacularly ignorant lukewarm 6/10 review of Marvin Gaye's seminal What's Going On, and Euan McColm (guitarist for the band Fat Cops, alongside bandmates Al Murray the Pub Landlord, JK Rowling's husband and a guy who calls himself "Bobby Bluebell") completely failing to appreciate Joni Mitchell's masterful Blue album. Follow tom disso on Twitter @nailheadparty Special thanks to our guy Rob @aboynamedposh for inspiring our deep RAM dive with this increasingly agitated thread; https://twitter.com/aboynamedposh/status/1415100149605572608?s=20 To hear more content like this - including bonus RAM material with tom disso - go to patreon.com/reelpolitik and subscribe!
