I’ve talked to a lot of ol timers that bred horses and always told me the second dam was the most important part of the pedigree. I’m real big on maternal lines. In fact, I believe any decent sire will do, but your mare is your horse. Maternal lines are everything. Every great stud has a great momma and every great mare has a great momma. This also explains why sometimes good and bad traits seem to skip generations.

Hard work looks different to everyone. Scott explains a story where two boys wake up on Christmas day to a tree that has a ton of horse manure under it. One boy is upset at the sight of the manure and pouts. The other goes to digging through the manure and says "With all this manure, there must be a pony in here somewhere!"So when you are looking at work or opportunities, are you griping or digging for the pony?

Scott looks back on his younger years while driving home from a cutting show and gives a great talk to the younger generation about figuring out where you're wanting to go in life and how to get there. It might seem like a simple concept; teaching your kids to say "Yes sir" and "Yes mam." But in the Hulme household, it's what they've used to teach their boys about respect and how to conduct themselves in everyday life. From meeting his wife, to building his business and buying and selling properties, one thing has always stayed constant in Scott's life: horses.

Scott grew up in rural Idaho where his family ranched, and made a lot of memories. Take a trip down memory lane with Scott and some of his experiences hunting with his dad.
