The wheels of fate make a return, giving the guys an event from 1985 to do an episode about. The David Ghantt heist, which occurred in October 1997, involved the theft of $17.3 million from the Loomis Fargo & Company in North Carolina. David Ghantt, an armored car driver for the company, stole the money after disabling the security systems, loading the armored van up and driving away. He then met with his accomplices intending to split the money three ways and escaping to Mexico. Ghantt and his accomplices went on a comedically extravagant spending spree after the robbery that led to their eventual capture by the FBI. This heist has been the subject of books, movies, and documentaries, and now this podcast. In April 1986, a reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine exploded, releasing large amounts of radioactive material into the environment. On July 10,1985, a Greenpeace ship called the Rainbow Warrior was docked in New Zealand, when two bombs that were planted on the ship exploded.
