The 2023 Formula 1 offseason marked the first time in the sport's history that all 20 drivers on the grid that finished last season, stayed with their original teams. But when Lewis Hamilton announced in February that he was switching to Ferrari for 2025, it opened the floodgates to some of the earliest "silly season" dialogue that the sport has ever seen. It was a rain-affected classic as Round 2 of the World Endurance Championship headed to Emilia-Romagna and the 6 Hours of Imola. Ferrari were hopeful for home glory after a perfect 1-2-3 in Qualifying, but a strategic blunder when the rain fell mid-race dashed all hope for the Italian manufacturer. In 2023, the IMSA GTP class introduced new cars built to the LMDh formula, featuring a hybrid energy management system as manufacturers were keen to show more relevance to the passenger car industry. The competition in the GTP class was intense, with six driver pairings from four manufacturers (Acura, BMW, Cadillac, and Porsche) entering the final race, the Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta, in contention for the championship. The top three entries were only separated by five points. Ultimately the Cadillac of Britain's Alexander Sims and Pipo Derani was victorious. Despite winning only once during the season (at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring), their consistent performances and strategy paid off. This victory marked Derani's second IMSA championship and the first for Sims. The Aston Martin Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award is motorsport's most prestigious accolade aimed at recognizing and supporting young talent.  Established in 1989, the award was created by Autosport Magazine and the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC). Its purpose is to identify and assist promising British racing drivers in their progression up the motorsport ladder. Each year young competitors are selected based on their performance in lower-tier racing series. The selection process involves a combination of on-track driving tests and off-track assessments, including fitness and professional skills. The British Touring Car Championship season threatened to become a one-horse race at times in 2023, such was the searing speed of Ash Sutton and his Motorbase Performance-run Ford Focus ST.
