Parents have to have many uncomfortable conversations with children at different ages and maturity stages.
For example, explaining to a child why some relatives are not welcome into your home, explaining to them what to do if a police officer pulls them over, or having to tell them how to be safe to prevent sexual abuse or human trafficking.
The list goes on. There are many conversations that we must have with kids that no one prepares us for. I believe that we are in an era where these conversations are becoming more public.
To help you learn how you can have the conversation of body consent, boundaries and safety, I invited Veronica Del Pino, a bilingual (ENG/SPAN) licensed clinical social worker to share with you everything you need to know about working with a professional to help you learn how to have these hard conversations and manage your own trauma.
We talk about:
🗣🗣Veronica’s qualifications that allow her to serve moms
🗣🗣The different methods of therapy that she uses
🗣🗣The role of a therapist
🗣🗣Accessibility to therapy for low-income families
🗣🗣The reality of finding the right therapist
🗣🗣Why some mental health specialists don’t work with insurance providers
🗣🗣Important terms such as EMDR, In and Out of network providers and sliding scales
🗣🗣What an intake is and what it includes
🗣🗣The importance of a professional who can help you better communicate with others
🗣🗣Who Veronica offers her services to
🗣🗣Availabel services to Spanish speakers

If you are a new or parent not, and you’re having trouble getting your kids to go to sleep, you will love this week’s episode.
Carla Perl is a mom of three beautiful children: two boys and one girl. She had her children very close together and realized early on that sleep was key to a smooth-running household (and my sanity).
Carla was very diligent about instilling good sleep habits in her children. Nana, her mom, inspired her to create early bedtime routines and follow consistent schedules.
To this day, her kids are all good sleepers and understand the benefits of a good night's sleep. As her family was growing, many of Carla’s friends would ask her how she was able to keep everything under control.
Carla quickly realized that because she had such a consistent routine, her children always knew what was coming next, and bathtime and bedtime struggles were few and far between. As her friends looked on, she began offering them support; helping them establish routines, and giving them recommendations for sleep and toddler behaviors.
This led to her interest in becoming a Pediatric Sleep and Positive Encouragement Consultant and the founder and owner of Slumberland Solutions. Carla is here to help YOU and your family create loving and happy routines and she provided some really great tips to help you if you’re struggling getting your kids to sleep.
Carla talks to us about:
Setting up a sleep schedule for kids.
Establishing boundaries.
Managing challenging kids who won’t go to sleep.
Proper sleeping posture for babies.
The resources and services she offers to parents.

While bullying will always exist, it can be drastically reduced if only societies, communities, institutions, and organizations made a committed effort to create an anti-bullying culture.
This is not an easy task, since it requires groups of people to work together, but movements have been created that have changed our way of life.
So, it is doable!
Here are three main factors that I believe can successfully create an anti-bullying culture to improve quality of life for everyone, not just our youth.
Anti-bullying education and awareness
Creating supportive environments
Implementing strong policies and consequences
Remember that change can happen and it only takes one person to take the initiative to start that change.

She responded by saying that she is not defined by anyone’s definition of Latina and that she walks in her world confidently.
Just like her, I agree that there isn’t a one size fits all for any demographic. I have lived experiences as a Latina raised in the U.S. and have learned from other individuals who have faced ridicule by other Latinx people who believed they weren’t real enough to identify as part of the Latin American community.
This is the gist of this episode and I share my sentiments on it as well as two stories from people who have been made to feel outcast and/or denied to be fully accepted in their own Latin American community.
Please keep in mind that this is a sensitive topic and while you may not agree with what I have to say, you are expected to be respectful.
Any hateful, mean or bullying comments are not accepted. We can all agree to disagree amicably. Thank you.

Whether or not college is the right next step for a child can depend on a variety of factors, such as their interests, goals, and educational needs. For some students, college may be the best choice to pursue a certain career or to continue their education in a specific field. While others it may not be the best fit and they prefer to enter the workforce or explore alternative educational opportunities.
College is a big commitment, both financially and in terms of time, and students need to be able to handle the rigors of college-level coursework and the responsibilities that come with living away from home.
It's important to talk to your child and help them explore their options.

They all banded together and with a lot of work, they were able to put a stop to it. But it shouldn’t have taken over 30 women to stop one cyberstalker. That experience lead Cairo to do a lot more in the world. Cairo created Bringing The Globe (BTG), a virtual international student exchange program and a global village for students equipping them with the transferable skill sets and resources they need to thrive. BTG provides self-paced courses, live and virtual workshops, and online international conferences every year that leverage evidence-based and scientific research to help students find their purpose and passion.

Once such patterns are nurtured at a young age, the likelihood of children practicing such patterns as they grow up is high.

Truthfully, it gets challenging and exhausting. However, as a parent with a chronic illness you can still cater to yourself and your children. Jennifer Maharajh is a testament to this as she has been able to execute her parenting roles and lead a successful business.
As an author, Parkinson's warrior, global summit producer and speaker, health/wellness entrepreneur, and above all, as a parent and wife, she shares her experience with us in this episode.
She talks about:
Her journey with Parkinson’s disease How she has managed to parent her children while dealing with a chronic illness Why it’s important to let your children in on your chronic illnessConnect with Jennifer Maharajh:

The media we consume has a profound influence on how we see, understand, and treat people, both those within and different from our own race or ethnicity, and that is why representation is important.
It helps kids build their perspectives on their own ethnic-racial group, as well as that of others and because of that parents ought to encourage their kids to view media content that is diverse.
In this episode, I speak to Joshua Lorea who has championed the need for diversity in comic characters and representation in media by publishing his comic book Nahualli, Modern Aztec Heroes: Volume 1 to highlight people of color and their experiences.
Joshua talks about:
How the portrayal of diverse races in the media is important Why parents should not shy away from the topic of race and ethnicity How NFTs are transforming the art world Why children should explore their art creativityConnect with Joshua Lorea:

LGBTQ+ people exist, they are in our families, workplaces, and schools and we can no longer ignore their presence.
Due to their classification, the majority face discrimination and this is not right because just like other people they have human rights.
In schools especially, there is a divide between teachers, school administration, and parents on whether issues surrounding LGBTQ+ should be taught to students.
Much as everyone is entitled to an opinion surrounding how they would want their children to be raised, it is important to be aware of the diversity in the world and for that case needs to be addressed and that is why Destiny Clarke, an LGBTQ+ Educational Consultant and former teacher who helps teachers, school leaders, and caregivers create communities of care for LGBTQ+ youth graced us with her point of view.
In this episode, Destiny talks about:
The importance of LGBTQ education to parents, children, and teachers Dos and Don'ts of getting to know the LGBTQ What gender is and its different forms Resources for LGBTQ youth How addressing LGBTQ+ issues is more than sexualityConnect with Destiny Clarke:

With schools focused on educating children to ensure they are excelling in their grades, they may tend to miss out on teaching them about bullying, which is important to create a safe learning environment.
I came to this realization after years of volunteering at schools and then selling my anti-bullying services to schools.
With the first step in most cases being reporting bullying incidents to the school, children need more in-depth education about bullying because when a child is victimized, parents need the help of educators to make sure bullying is addressed. Parents and school leaders need to ensure that the victim is kept safe and that other children have an understanding of how to treat others.
In this episode, I address;
The importance of in-depth bullying education in schools. Why parents need to speak up more about the need for bullying awareness at schools. How bullying awareness empowers parents and children.Connect with Dali at…

A number of states in the U.S. have seen a surge in deadly street racing amidst the pandemic and some of the individuals involved are younger drivers.
Much as they participate in such an act for fun, due to the nature of their driving, accidents are bound to happen and death occurs.
Such deaths are very unfortunate because with the right measures in place, they would have been managed and this is what led Reina Jackson, a wife, and mother of six children to launch the AJ Project, Inc. in September 2021.
In May 2021, her firstborn child Ajanni passed away tragically in a car accident in which speed was a factor and Reina decided to use the AJ Project as a solution to this crisis which the U.S. Secretary of Transportation has recently declared a national crisis targeting young adults 13-21.
The AJ Project also shares the truth about the deadly dangers of Illegal Street Racing & Reckless Driving and also offers bereavement services to mothers & families.
In this episode, Reina talks about:
The signs parents should look out for to determine if their child is involved in street racing. How the pandemic led to a surge in street racing among children. Fines issued for street racers and how they offer minimal regulation. Why and when you should have the conversation about speed racing with your children. Resources to track your child’s driving. The importance of having loving people around you to help get you through bullying experiences and/or trauma. Small acts of activism. The importance of focusing on the cause of kids’ misbehavior and empowering them to choose how to deal with their actions and emotions.Connect with Reina:

Further, she provides exam prep coaching for test-takers who often find themselves anxious about preparation and test-taking.
Understanding this anxiety, she enjoys conducting tutorials and workshops on incorporating interests within the study process. One of these interests includes use of TikTok and Instagram/Facebook Reels.
Having worked as an English composition adjunct professor, tutor, and speech-language pathologist, she cherishes education and believes it should be available to all who want to receive it. While some people have grown out to become the superstars that they are today, your favorite celebrity/movie stars did face bullying as kids and those incidents shaped them. This was the case for Tonatiuh, with more than a decade of experience on stage, screen, and in the VO booth, Tonatiuh is an actor and screenwriter. He is currently a series regular on the ABC drama PROMISED LAND playing the role of Antonio Sandoval - who embodies a bully-victim which is a common reaction by some victims of bullying as a way to survive, and deal with their pain. During our discussion, Tonatiuh talks about: Bullying within the family. Understanding that we have to accept how our actions are received, even when we especially when we hurt someone. The large impact that bullying has on society and social issues. His forgiveness journey. The importance of having loving people around you to help get you through bullying experiences and/or trauma. Small acts of activism. The importance of focusing on the cause of kids’ misbehavior and empowering them to choose how to deal with their actions and emotions. Tonatiuh’s experience with bullying, and the social changes he wants to see have impacted the projects he works on. You can definitely see that in his work now and I invite you to support his work. Additional television and streaming credits include a major recurring guest star role on the forthcoming Peacock limited series ANGELYNE as well as a three-season recurring guest star arc in the GLAAD Media Award-winning STARZ series VIDA, where Tonatiuh played the gender-bending "Marcos Zamora", which landed him on the cover of the LA Times Calendar Section in May 2020. As always, I ask that you consider supporting our guests. You can support Tonatiuh by watching Season 1 of Promise Land on HULU and stay tuned for ANGELYNE, where he appears on episode 3. I decided to get a little personal for this episode. So, I invited by younger child, Jess to give some parenting advice. The conversation turned out fun and insightful. If you've had moments when your teen doesn't understand what you want from them, or if they give you a confused look when you tell them to do something, Jess explains what's really going on in their brain.
Hopefully you can relate to some of the things we talk about and it is my wish that you not feel alone. Like me, you are evolving, learning every day, and your kids will love you for that!
