- 614 - The Man Behind The Blindfold : Episode 545
She spent more than 100 hours with the man she believed she loved - but she never saw his face.
Kye Fortune was, to the woman at the centre of this case, a real person. They had built a relationship online and eventually met in person, but only on the condition that she wore a blindfold. What followed would lead to one of the strangest criminal cases in the UK, involving deception, identity, trust and consent.
In this episode, I tell the story of Gayle Newland and the woman who believed Kye Fortune was real.
I release new episodes of the UK True Crime Podcast every Tuesday and Friday, so please do join me for the next story on Tuesday. I’ll also be releasing a bonus episode on Sunday - an interview with the victim of an astonishing fraud case. It’s a fascinating and very personal conversation, so I hope you’ll join me for that too.

Mon, 14 Sep 2026 - 31min - 612 - The Murder of an Identical Twin : Bonus Episode
What would it be like to lose your identical twin to murder?
In this episode, I talk to Nick Dawson, whose identical twin, Simon, was murdered in the most dreadful attack in 1998. I found this conversation incredibly moving and, at times, very emotional. Nick takes us back to his brother’s childhood and talks about the man Simon was before his life was so brutally taken away. We also discuss the murder itself and the devastating impact it had on Nick and those who loved his brother.
But there is another extraordinary part of Nick’s story. He has met the men who killed his brother. Nick tells me about those meetings, what it was like to come face-to-face with the people responsible for his twin’s death, the questions he wanted answered, and what those encounters meant to him. It is a deeply personal conversation about murder, grief, memory, forgiveness and the search for answers, told by someone who lost the person who, in so many ways, was the closest person in the world to him.

Mon, 07 Sep 2026 - 27min - 609 - Interview With Top Crime Reporter Martin Brunt : Bonus Episode
In this bonus episode, I chat with top crime reporter, Martin Brunt.
Martin spent 36 years at Sky News and built such a reputation for contacts that, during the 2006 Ipswich serial murders, a police press officer reportedly told a rival journalist: 'Call Martin Brunt. He knows everything before we do.' Martin Brunt joined Sky for its launch in 1989, reported from the Gulf and Balkan wars, then became one of Britain's best-known crime reporters, covering cases including Fred and Rose West, Sarah Payne, Jill Dando, Madeleine McCann and the Hatton Garden raid.
His book, 'No One Got Cracked Over the Head for No Reason', opens up his notebook on the victims, detectives, villains, sources, errors and ethical choices behind those headlines, and asks why some crimes seize the public imagination while others barely register. Martin stepped back from full time reporting in 2025, but retirement seems to have evaded him: he remains a Sky crime commentator and, with Helen Fospero, co-hosts the award-winning True Criminals podcast.
I release new episodes of the UK True Crime podcast every Tuesday and Friday - please join me for the next episode on Tuesday.

Minutes before taking his own life, Michael Ryan looked back on the devastation he had caused in Hungerford. He had killed 16 people and injured 15 others. Then he told the police negotiator: “I wish I had stayed in bed.”
In this episode, I look back at what happened that day, the people whose lives were changed forever, and the events that unfolded as a quiet town found itself at the centre of a tragedy that shocked the country. Mon, 31 Aug 2026 - 42min - 606 - Revisited - A Pact With The Devil
Note: This epiosde was originally released in August 2023.
Detectives believed they had identified the murderer, and when they entered the bedroom of 18-year-old Danyal Hussein in south-east London, they found something extraordinary. Among his belongings was a handwritten note, signed in his own blood, which described a pact he claimed to have made with a demon called Lucifuge Rofocale.
According to the beliefs surrounding black magic, Lucifuge Rofocale was said to be in charge of the government and treasury of Hell, acting on the orders of Lucifer. The pact Hussein had written described a chilling bargain: he would murder six women every six months in return for financial rewards, including the promise of winning the lottery. What detectives had discovered would give them a disturbing insight into the thinking of the teenager they believed was responsible for two brutal murders.

At about 4pm one Saturday afternoon, Vikki took Daisy for her usual afternoon walk in the pretty countryside close to where she lived. Half an hour later, Daisy returned home with no sign of Vikki which was most unusual. Jonathan knew something was wrong and headed out to look for his wife where he was joined by others in the village.
At just before 7.15pm Vikki was finally found by the railway embankment, but she had been attacked, suffering terrible injuries and despite an air ambulance taking her to hospital in Oxford, just six days later Vikki had died of her injuries. In this episode of the UK true Crime podcast I ask just who killed Vicki - and why?

Mon, 17 Aug 2026 - 26min - 600 - Lost Evidence. Unanswered Questions. The Death Of Ed Cornes - The Inquest/Where are we Now? : Episode 4/4
Welcome to the final episode - for now, anyway - of this special four-part series of the UK True Crime Podcast, where I explore the life and death of 19-year-old Ed Cornes. Today, we look at the inquest into Ed’s death, the Met Police referring themselves to the IOPC over their handling of the investigation, and I ask the question: where are we today?
If you have missed the other three episodes, 19 year old Ed Cornes had only just begun the next exciting chapter of his life when, in October 2021, he arrived at University College London with ambitions of becoming a barrister. But less than 48 hours later, those ambitions were cut tragically short when paramedics were called to a hotel in King's Cross, just half a mile from his university accommodation, where they found Ed dead.
At the time of his death, Ed was in the company of two men in their fifties - strangers he had met only a few hours earlier.
If you have any information at all that can help us find out any more about what happened to Ed, please contact in the strictest confidence:

Sat, 15 Aug 2026 - 30min - 599 - A Crime of Pure Evil : Episode 535
The murder of Sadie Hartley is a shocking story of jealousy, obsession and a carefully planned killing.
Sadie was a successful businesswoman from Lancashire who was attacked and murdered on her own doorstep. What followed was a complex investigation which uncovered a plot that had been developing for months. This episode looks at Sadie's life, the events that led to her murder, the investigation that followed and how police eventually uncovered the truth behind what had happened.
Above all, this is the story of a woman who was simply going about her life, completely unaware of the danger that was developing around her.
My next episode is released on Sunday, the final part of my four part series about the life and death of Ed Cornes. Please do join me for this.

Stephen Port was a serial killer who murdered four men in Barking, East London, between 2014 and 2015.
In this episode, I examine the failings in the police investigation into Stephen Port and ask whether the Metropolitan Police repeated some of the same mistakes in their handling of Ed Cornes' death. It's a thought-provoking episode that raises important questions about policing, accountability, and whether the lessons from the Port investigation were truly learned.

St Helena, a tiny British territory in the South Atlantic, is famous for Napoleon’s exile and for Jonathan the tortoise, the world’s oldest living land animal. Journalist Luke Jones, who you might remember from The Pitcairn Trials, is back investigating another shocking scandal. He travelled to St Helena to speak to Islanders who were meant to benefit from the arrival of a top orthopedic surgeon 2015. Wed, 05 Aug 2026 - 32min - 594 - The Surgeon Who Betrayed His Patients : Episode 532
For years, Ian Paterson was regarded as one of Britain's leading breast surgeons. Patients placed their trust in him at some of the most frightening moments of their lives, believing they were receiving the best possible care.
Instead, many underwent unnecessary or inappropriate operations that left them with lasting physical and psychological consequences. As concerns mounted, one of the biggest medical scandals in modern UK history began to unfold, raising serious questions not only about one surgeon's actions but also about how he was able to continue practising for so long. In this episode, I explore the rise and fall of Ian Paterson, the devastating impact on his patients and the lessons that continue to shape patient safety today.

Next Sunday, I examine the police investigation into serial killer Stephen Port and ask whether the Metropolitan Police repeated some of the same mistakes in their handling of Ed Cornes' death. It's a thought-provoking episode that raises important questions about policing, accountability and the lessons that should have been learned. I hope you'll join me.

Thu, 30 Jul 2026 - 29min - 591 - Bonus Episode : Inside the Suzy Lamplugh Investigation: Interview With Ex-Detective Mike Barley
To mark today, the 40th anniversary of Suzy Lamplugh's disappearance, last week I sat down last week to chat with former Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector Mike Barley.
Mike was one of the first officers involved in the investigation, helping to establish the original incident room at Fulham Police Station within hours of Suzy being reported missing. He remained closely involved with the case for more than 12 years, following countless leads, investigating reported sightings, working with Suzy's family and later focusing on convicted murderer and rapist John Cannan.
It's a fascinating interview where Mike shares behind-the-scenes insights into one of Britain's most enduring missing person investigations, including the remarkable story of an afternoon spent interviewing John Cannan in prison, during which Cannan briefly admitted killing Suzy before immediately withdrawing his confession.
Mike and co-author Russell Barnes have recently published a new book, Suzy Lamplugh: The Inside Story of Britain's Most Notorious Missing Person Investigation, drawing on Mike’s decades of first-hand experience of the case. You can buy the book on Kindle by following the link below.
I'll be back as normal on Friday for the next episode of the UK True Crime podcast, so do join me then.

Mon, 27 Jul 2026 - 56min - 590 - Suzy Lamplugh: 40 Years Without Answers : Episode 530
Forty years ago today, estate agent Suzy Lamplugh disappeared after leaving her office in Fulham to meet a client known only as 'Mr Kipper'. She has never been seen again. In this special anniversary episode, I revisit one of Britain's most enduring mysteries, examining Suzy's life, the investigation, the suspects, and where the case is at four decades later.
In a second episode also released today, I interview former Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector Mike Barley about this case. There is nobody out there more qualified to provide insight than Mike who was one of the first officers involved in the investigation, helping to establish the original incident room at Fulham Police Station within hours of Suzy being reported missing. He remained closely involved with the case for more than 12 years, following countless leads, investigating reported sightings, working with Suzy's family and later focusing on convicted murderer and rapist John Cannan.

Mon, 27 Jul 2026 - 35min - 589 - Lost Evidence. Unanswered Questions. The Death Of Ed Cornes : Episode 1/4
Welcome to this special four-part series of the UK True Crime Podcast, where I explore the life and death of 19-year-old Ed Cornes.
Ed had only just begun the next exciting chapter of his life when, in October 2021, he arrived at University College London with ambitions of becoming a barrister.
Throughout this series, I'll speak to Ed's family and friends - the people who have fought tirelessly to uncover the truth about exactly what happened to him. Together, we'll examine the events leading up to his death, the police investigation that followed, and the many questions that still remain unanswered today.
If you have any information at all that can help us find out any more about what happened to Ed, please contact in the strictest confidence:
1, Ed's family via Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/Da8cL06MHmq/

Sat, 25 Jul 2026 - 0min - 587 - Daniel Khalife : Spy, Soldier or Fantasist? | Episode 529
You will probably remember Daniel Khalife for his extraordinary escape from HMP Wandsworth. But his story started long before that. In this episode, I look at how a young British Army soldier became caught up in a world of espionage, the events that led to his arrest, and the remarkable prison escape that made headlines around the world. It's a story of ambition, deception and some surprisingly old-fashioned spycraft.

Mon, 20 Jul 2026 - 29min - 585 - The Bogus Doctor : Episode 527
We all trust our doctors, don't we? In many ways, we have little choice. We rely on them to diagnose illness, offer advice and make decisions that can have a profound impact on our lives.
But in today's episode of the UK True Crime podcast, I look at the extraordinary story of a doctor who wasn't at all what she seemed. For more than two decades, she practised medicine in the UK despite not being properly qualified, exposing serious failures in the systems designed to protect patients. It's a story of deception, misplaced trust and missed opportunities - and one that raises uncomfortable questions about how such an astonishing fraud was allowed to continue for so long.

What goes on inside the mind of a killer?
In this special episode, I'm joined by top forensic psychologist Kerry Daynes, who has spent her career assessing and treating some of the UK's most dangerous offenders. We talk about dangerous criminals, manipulation, violent crime, and what she's learned from sitting face-to-face with people most of us hope never to meet. Sat, 11 Jul 2026 - 55min - 582 - The Drugs Mule : Episode 525
Melissa Reid and Michaella McCollum became known around the world as the "Peru Two" after they were caught trying to smuggle 11 kilograms of cocaine out of Peru.
They said they had been drawn into the operation by an organised crime gang and felt they couldn't back out, while others argued they had knowingly taken a huge risk in return for money. Their arrest made headlines across the globe and sparked years of debate about where the line lies between exploitation and personal responsibility. In this episode, I look beyond the headlines to explore how two teenagers ended up at the centre of one of the most talked-about drug trafficking cases of recent times, and why their story still divides opinion today.

Thu, 09 Jul 2026 - 28min - 581 - The Stalker Who Walked Free : Episode 524
"Is it fair that a young lady who dresses to attract, the queen bee attracting the drones, the queen bee that dresses to kill... cries out foul because somebody finds her attractive?"
Shockingly, those were the words of the defence barrister during the trial. Understandably, this sparked widespread outrage at the time and remains one of the most extraordinary examples of victim blaming in a British courtroom.
A chance encounter with a stranger turned Perry Southall's life into a nightmare. What followed was a relentless campaign of stalking that left her living in fear and exposed serious flaws in the way the justice system dealt with dangerous offenders. Perry's courage in speaking out helped change the conversation around stalking in Britain, making this one of the country's most important stalking cases.

Mon, 29 Jun 2026 - 25min - 578 - Murdered Just Steps From Home : Episode 521
Scott Pritchard was just 19 years old when he was brutally attacked only yards from his family home in Sunderland. The football-mad teenager, who was recovering from a broken foot and relying on crutches, was especially vulnerable when he was ambushed and fatally struck with a blunt object.
For years, his murder remained one of the North East's most enduring unsolved cases. His family suffered unimaginable heartbreak, while Scott's dad faced the additional anguish of being wrongly suspected of his own son's killing. In this episode, I examine the investigation, the mistakes, the unanswered questions, and the extraordinary twist that finally revealed the truth. Thu, 28 May 2026 - 27min - 567 - A Deadly Grudge : Episode 512
It was a small village in Hertfordshire, where very little ever disturbed the peace - certainly not the kind of brutal violence that unfolded when retired Army Colonel Robert Workman was shot dead on his own doorstep.
Robert was an old-fashioned military man: well spoken, private, proud, and known for his calm and easy-going nature. He lived a quiet life and had no obvious enemies. So when news spread that he had been murdered outside his own home, the question on everyone’s mind was chillingly simple - who could possibly have wanted him dead, and why?

Mon, 25 May 2026 - 30min - 566 - Caught In The Crossfire : Episode 511
In this episode of the UK True Crime Podcast from the north-west of England, I cover the devastating murder of Elle Edwards - an innocent young woman caught in the crossfire when gun violence erupted outside a busy pub.
What began as a normal night out ended in chaos within seconds, leaving a family shattered and an entire community searching for answers. Detectives launched a major investigation as CCTV footage, forensic evidence and witness accounts were pieced together to uncover exactly what happened. I explore the events leading up to the shooting, the hunt for the gunman and the court case that followed, in a case that shocked Merseyside and the wider UK.
I release episodes every Tuesday and Friday, so please join me on Tuesday for the next episode of the UK True Crime Podcast.

Thu, 21 May 2026 - 30min - 565 - An Obsession With Fire : Episode 510
Between January 2022 and December 2024, 65,053 arson offences were recorded across the UK police forces that provided data - yet only 4.83% of these cases resulted in charges. Arson is a terrifying and often deadly crime with incredibly low conviction rates.
In this episode of the UK True Crime Podcast, I look at the case of Stefan Geary and a series of arson offences that affected communities across the North East. I examine the police investigation, the evidence presented in court, and the impact the fires had on local residents and emergency services. The episode also explores Geary’s background and the circumstances that led to his conviction.

Mon, 18 May 2026 - 27min - 564 - Bonus Episode : Interview With Ex-DCI Colin Sutton
Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of sitting down with legendary ex-detective Colin Sutton to talk about his new TV Series:
Confessions of a Serial Killer: Levi Bellfield- available to stream on Prime Video from 25 May.
In this series, Colin and his team re-examine the claims of serial killer Levi Bellfield, whose repeated and conflicting confessions to the 1996 murders of Lin and Megan Russell have reignited one of the country’s most controversial cases. With another man still serving life sentences for the crime, this series unravels a complex web of evidence, doubt and deception, asking whether Bellfield is manipulating the system from behind bars. This is one series you really don't want to miss.
I hope you enjoy my chat with Colin and I'll be back on Tuesday with the next episode of the UK True Crime Podcast.

Sat, 16 May 2026 - 26min - 563 - The Distinctive Smell Of Death : Episode 509
For many people living on the fringes of society, long-term plans often give way to simply surviving day by day. It can be a world shaped by addiction, instability and violence - as seen in today’s case from Bournemouth on England’s south coast.
After human body parts were discovered in different areas of the town, a major police investigation led detectives to a cramped one-bedroom flat shared by three vulnerable people living chaotic lives dominated by drugs, alcohol and financial hardship. As tensions inside the flat spiralled out of control, the situation turned deadly, ending in a shocking and brutal murder.

Fri, 15 May 2026 - 30min - 562 - The Man Who Stole Identities : Episode 508
A crime with no victims, just the faceless banks. Or is that ever really the case?
Elliot Castro was one of the most prolific fraudsters in the UK, starting from a very early age where he stole identities and credit card details to fund a life of luxury across the world. From five-star hotels to designer shopping sprees, Castro lived under countless false identities while staying one step ahead of authorities for years. But behind the glamour was a deeply compulsive double life built on deception, manipulation and fraud.
In this episode, I look at how Elliot Castro became one of the UK’s most notorious conmen - and how his extraordinary criminal career finally came crashing down.

Mon, 04 May 2026 - 25min - 560 - A Pub Argument in Luton : Episode 505
What began as a celebration ended in devastating violence.
Pat Howard and Adam Fanelli were killed after a baby shower in Houghton Regis spilled out onto the street, where a confrontation escalated rapidly into a brutal and sustained attack. In front of multiple witnesses, the violence intensified - culminating in the use of both a vehicle and a knife. Along with Adam Fanelli, who was trying to defuse the situation, Pat suffered fatal injuries in a case which shocked the community.
Investigators reconstructed the events through CCTV, witness accounts, and forensic evidence, revealing a deliberate and relentless assault. In this podcast I look at events leading up to the two murders, the police investigation and how those responsible were brought to justice.
The events of that night remain a stark reminder of how quickly a minor argument can spiral out of control into shocking violence.

Mon, 27 Apr 2026 - 25min - 558 - Murder At The Birthday Party: Episode 503
50-year-old Robert Powell was brutally murdered outside a party in Essex in what investigators believed was a planned, targeted hit - carried out in front of his two sons. A truly shocking and deeply distressing crime.
Thanks to determined and meticulous police work, the main suspect, Nana Oppong (pictured), was tracked down after fleeing the UK immediately after the killing. He travelled to Spain, before attempting to cross into Morocco hidden in the back of a lorry, using a fake Maltese passport. He was intercepted at Tangier Port and returned to the UK to face justice.
Oppong later stood trial for Powell’s murder - but his courtroom history added a dramatic twist. On three previous occasions, he had faced murder charges…and been acquitted every time. Would this be the fourth?

A gang of experienced criminals set out to pull off what would have been one of the biggest robberies in British history - targeting a priceless diamond exhibition inside London’s Millennium Dome. But what the gang didn’t know was that detectives from the Metropolitan Police were already watching their every move. This is the story of the infamous Millennium Dome heist - an audacious plot that came within moments of success before being dramatically foiled.

Mon, 20 Apr 2026 - 25min - 556 - Operation Julie |The Rise and Fall of a Drug Empire : Episode 501
In the late 1970's, LSD was big in Cambridge University's radical academic fringe, inspired by LSD pioneer Timothy Leary. He had a strong belief that the drug broadened the mind and could transform society and make it better for all of us. Henry Todd got very much into this scene and then started his own LSD lab, producing huge quantities of the stuff.
In the episode of the UK True Crime Podcast, I look at the undercover police operation 'Operation Julie' soon had Henry Todd and others making and selling LSD under surveillance, and how Todd later made the unusual move into high altitude mountaineering.

Mon, 06 Apr 2026 - 25min - 552 - Revisited - Murder At A Remote Farmhouse
Cornwall isn't the sort of place you associate with large scale drug imports from South America, IRA terrorists and murder. But in this episode of the UK True Crime podcast, we hear a story that involved all of these things. When detectives quizzed local farmer Ross Stone about cannabis being grown on his farm, they could never expected that he would reveal that two missing men - Brett Flournoy & David Griffiths were also buried there. But was he responsible for the killings?
Back in January 2024, I covered this story, but today I have just heard that one of the key people in the story was found dead in their prison cell last month. In light of this latest development, I’ve decided to re-release this episode today.

Jean Windridge lived near Birmingham and was always immaculate in her appearance, with a real fondness for flashy costume jewellery which led to her gaining the nicknames among friends of ‘Diamond Lil’ and ‘Goldfinger’. She didn't wear expensive pieces, but loved the jewellery that she wore. At 78, Jean had a busy social life and lots of friends, being known locally for her kindness and sense of community. So when she was found murdered in her own home after an afternoon party at the local church, nobody could understand why anyone would want to hurt Jean. Sun, 22 Mar 2026 - 31min - 546 - A Life of Criminal Fantasy : Episode 493
In this episode of the UK True Crime Podcast I delve into the criminal history of Paul Bint, a serial conman known as the “King Con.” Bint repeatedly posed as high-status figures, such as barristers and senior officials, to manipulate victims, often targeting women and gaining their trust before exploiting them financially. With hundreds of offences and multiple prison sentences, his story reveals how confidence fraud relies on charm, deception, and psychological manipulation rather than complex schemes. It is quite a story.

And she certainly did this, telling some dreadful lies and causing terrible distress, as we will hear today...

The story this week is from South Wales and is as shocking a story as I have ever brought to you on the UK True Crime Podcast. In this episode, we hear how this fantasy become a terrifying reality.

He is always so generous with his knowledge and insights and is such a wonderful person and great company.

Mon, 12 Jan 2026 - 1h 00min - 527 - Bonus Episode: True Crime Catch Up - The Murder of John Lennon
You may have listened to the 'True Crime Round Up' this year, where me and Stuart, host of the British Murders Podcast, talked about all things true crime once a month. Well, due to the popularity of this show we now release it every Wednesday on a separate feed and it is called the 'True Crime Catch Up'. You can listen every week on the usual podcast apps or you can watch us on YouTube. The link below will take you to Spotify, Apply and YouTube and if you enjoy the show, please do follow us there so we can continue to grow the show.
This week, we look at the shocking 1980 murder of John Lennon in New York which shocked the world. What followed raised uncomfortable questions that continue to surface after acts of extreme violence.
In this podcast, we examine the murder and the intense focus placed on The Catcher in the Rye, the book carried by his killer, Mark David Chapman. We explore how quickly media attention shifted from the crime itself to the idea that books, films, and popular culture can influence real-world violence, and whether that connection stands up to scrutiny.

The Ultimate Traitor explores the chilling true story of Robert Hendy-Freegard — the conman who posed as an MI5 agent and manipulated his victims through fear, loyalty and lies. A real-life game of trust and betrayal that echoes The Traitors, this episode examines how deception became a weapon — and how ordinary people were drawn into his control, with so many lives destroyed.
In the end he was just a Traitor, playing a game that nobody agreed to play.

Tue, 06 Jan 2026 - 32min - 525 - Revisited - A Naval Disappearance
Today I am re-releasing an episode I recorded in 2019 about Allan Grimson, a totally depraved excuse for a man who murdered at least two Royal Navy Sailors and it is speculated, up to as many as twenty others. The reason I have re-released this episode for you today, is because as you may have heard, the police announced last week that they have ended the investigation into the disappearance of Simon Parkes in Gibraltar - a man widely thought to have been another of Grimson's victims.
I don't think this story is widely enough known and so wanted to release it again as a tribute to the two men who were killed by Grimson - Nicholas Wright and Sion Jenkins - and to raise awareness in the hope that Simon's devastated family and friends can finally discover what happened to him.

Fri, 02 Jan 2026 - 43min - 524 - Under The Radar : Episode 476
The story from this week looks at a massive seizure of heroin and cocaine from a gang based in the north-west of England and rural north Wales. But what hit me is there is none of the drama we see in crime programmes on the television - it is a story of four men quietly going about their business under the radar, making money for themselves and causing untold misery in the communities where we all live. Depending on your view of the failure - or otherwise - of the so-called 'War on Drugs' then this story is either of real significance, or it doesn't really matter....
