WHL This Week - Radio Edition, updates the 2024 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien.  Both Conference Championship series hit the weekend looking like they could go the distance. We will update an overtime filled Eastern Championship and take a look at the Western Championship as the series heads back North to Prince George for a game six and a possible game seven in necessary.Next week, the WHL hosts both it's US Prospects Draft and the WHL Prospects Draft.  Providing a preview of some of the top prospects that will be selected early is Taylor Green - Manager of Hockey Operations for the WHL.  Taylor previews the potential top six selections in the draft.The Prince Albert Raiders have the 2nd and 9th overall pick in the WHL Prospects Draft a year after drafting 1st, 2nd and 7th overall last year.  Raiders General Manager Curtis Hunt joins us to talk about what they are building in P.A.

We are down to four teams in the chase for the Ed Chynoweth Cup.Moose Jaw Warriors Head Coach Mark O'Leary is our guest.  He talks about their playoff run so far and what it will take to advance past the Saskatoon Blades.  Mark also has his dad - a former longtime Coach along for the ride so far in the WHL Playoffs.The Saskatoon Blades open the series on home ice. Hear from Head Coach Brennan Sonne, captain Trevor Wong & F Fraser Minten.The Prince George Cougars open the Western Conference Championship on home ice against the Prince George Cougars. WHL This Week - Radio Edition, takes a look at the 2024 WHL Draft Lottery.  Prince Albert and Everett emerged as the big winners.  The Silvertips will draft 1st overall in May and we will hear from their Assistant General Manager Mike Fraser, who stops by the show.The 2024 WHL Playoffs Presented by Nutrien are now underway.  We have a playoff preview and hear more from the top seeds in the Conference in Prince George & Saskatoon.  We also get the thoughts of Kelowna Rockets F Andrew Cristall after an 111 point season and preparing for Wenatchee in the first round.The "Firkus Circus" has won a WHL scoring title and the Bobby Clarke Trophy for the top scorer in the regular season.  Jagger Firkus talks about winning the title and how it came down to the final weekend of the regular season. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, takes a look at the playoff races heading into the final weekend of the WHL's regular season. There's a battle for the 1st seed in the Western Conference while four other teams are within three points from 4th to 7th.  Only one 1st round playoff series has been locked-in with just days remaining in the season.Edmonton Oil Kings Equipment Manager Rogan Dean earned an NHL assist this past weekend. We'll explain.Prince George Cougars rookie Terik Parascak continues to receive accolades.  After reaching the 100 point plateau, he's picked up the Tempo WHL Player of the Week.  He'll be our guest.Former Victoria Royals Goaltender Griffen Outhouse is a National USPORTS Champion with the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds. Outhouse and his team went undefeated all season.  He's our guest to talk about his season, his time in Victoria and how he's utilizing the WHL Scholarship Program.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, takes a look at another NHL debut from a WHL player from this past season.  Zach Ostapchuk (Vancouver, Winnipeg) debuted with the NHL's Ottawa Senators earlier this week.The Red Deer Rebels made a coaching change earlier this month.  Veteran Dave Struch has been tasked with guiding the Rebels down the stretch and into the playoffs.  He'll be our guest with Troy Gillard.The UBC Thunderbirds captured the Canada West title thanks to 22 WHL Alumni.  They are now competing for a National USPORTS Championship.  We talk to their captain - former Red Deer Rebel - Chris Douglas.The Bob Ridley Award for Media Excellence was recently presented for a 3rd time since it's inception. Longtime TV Broadcaster/Reporter Earl Seitz in Kamloops was announced as the winner. He'll be our guest to wrap up the show. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, catches up with new WHL Commissioner Dan Near on his impressions two months into his new role.  Dan talks about the WHL's strengths and an area he'd like to see some improvement with.Swift Current Broncos G Reid Dyck was the WHL's Goaltender of the Month for February.  He's our guest to discuss his play and his surging Broncos.He's a young player having a great 16 year-old season.  Vancouver Giants F Cameron Schmidt is turning heads.  He's our guest.Finally, Kamloops Blazers F Jordan Keller is the Tempo WHL Player of the Week after putting up seven points in three games. He'll wrap up this week's show.

WHL This Week - Episode 23, takes a look at former WHL/CHL Player of the Year Logan Stankoven and his electric start to his NHL career.  The former four-year member of the Kamloops Blazers scored his first NHL goal on his 21st birthday and has scored in his last three NHL games with the Dallas Stars.Spokane Chiefs Head Coach Ryan Smith recently returned from South Korea after coaching Canada's hockey team at the World Youth Olympics.  Smith talks about his experience and the abundance of WHL prospects on that team who will look to make an impact when they arrive next fall for their 16 year-old seasons.Former WHL'er Vukie Mpufo has risen the ranks as an NHL Executive at just 28 years-old.  The Saskatoon native went to Law School after his playing days and is now the Director of Hockey Operations & Legal Affairs for the Pittsburgh Penguins. We will share his story. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, hears from the WHL Player of the Month for January. Medicine Hat Tigers F Gavin McKenna has kept up his pace in February in his first full season in the WHL.  That product of Whitehorse, YK leads off thet show.Two former WHL players made their NHL debuts this past week.  Former Seattle Thunderbirds F Matt Rempe and former Red Deer Rebel Arshdeep Bains stepped onto the NHL ice for the first time.  We will have their stories and hear from Rebels GM/President Brent Sutter on the story behind Surrey BC's Arshdeep Baines.To close, Prince George Cougars captain Hudson Thornton was recently honoured with his own night in Prince George after securing three team records for career goals, assists and points from a defenseman. Hudson will be our guest. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, has special guest Clarence Iron to begin the show.  The hockey broadcaster joined the Regina Pats Indigenous Night celebrations by calling the 2nd period of the Pats - Edmonton Oil Kings game in his native Cree language.  More with Clarence in this week's show.Former Regina Pats/Prince Albert Raiders G Max Paddock is playing a 2nd sport at the USports level.  He's rediscovered his love of volleyball as he attends the University of Fraser Valley in Chilliwack, BC. Kamloops Blazers F Emmitt Finnie has been named the Tempo WHL Player of the Week.  The Detroit Red Wings prospect put up seven goals and added three assists in three games.  He will close out the show. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, recaps the Players of the Month for January including Gavin McKenna, G Chase Wutzke & rookie F Carter Bear.The WHL Canada West Graduate of the Month for January is former Portland Winterhawks/Victoria Royals G Shane Farkas of the Mount Royal Cougars.  He's putting together a solid year in Canada West including a 6-0 January. Farkas talks about his time in the WHL and how he's taking advantage of the WHL Scholarship Program.He's ranked 67th amongst North American Skaters in the NHL Central Scouting Mid-Term Rankings.  Kamloops Blazers D Harrison Brunicke continues to trend upwards with an increased role and an appearance in the Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition checks in with the Vancouver Giants who are starting to gain traction in the Western Conference.  General Manager Barclay Parnetta joins us to discuss the Giants and the pair of big moves pulled off at thte WHL Trade Deadline.The Red Deer Rebels are the hottest team in the WHL.  They ride a 13-game point streak into the weekend.  F Kalan Lind - a Nashville Predators prospect - explains what's going right with the Rebels.The Temp WHL Player of the Week is Calgary Hitmen D Carter Yakemchuk.  He's also ranked 6th by NHL Central Scouting amongst North American skaters.  He'll be our guests.Finally, Prince George Cougars F Reilly Heidt set a pair of records this past week.  The 18 year-old F is enjoying a big season. He will join us to discuss his record setting week. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, recaps the Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game held earlier this week in Moncton, NB. Hear from WHL participants Tij Iginla, Tanner Howe, and Colton Roberts.  Former Kamloops Blazers/Everett Silvertips D Olen Zellweger made his long awaited NHL debut for the Anaheim Ducks this week.  We will take you back to that night which included his first NHL point.The Tempo WHL Player of the Week D Luca Cagnoni of the Portland Winterhawks stops by.  After recording eight points in four games, the Winterhawks continue to battle for 1st place in the US Division and the top seed in the Western Conference.Outgoing WHL Commisioner Ron Robison talks about his history with the game, which has been a labour of love.  Robison will wrap up a 24-year run as WHL Commisioner at the end of the season.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, has a complete WHL Trade Deadline wrap.  Hear from the General Managers that made big moves and others who decided to go with what they have.  Swift Current Broncos GM Chad Leslie has been busy, adding World Jr. F Connor Geekie and veteran defenseman Tyson Galloway.  We get the breakdown for Leslie to begin the show.One of the prize pieces at the deadline was F Connor Geekie.  The power forward is our guest as he settles in to his new surroundings in the Central Division.Saskatoon Blades GM Colin Priestner, Lethbridge Hurricanes GM Peter Anholt and more this week in Episode 16.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, has the breakdown of two massive moves involving star players in Wenatchee.   The Moose Jaw Warriors acquired F Matthew Savoie and the Swift Current Broncos are adding F Connor Geekie - both from the Wenatchee Wild.  We will hear from Wild GM Bliss Littler on the two moves and what might have forced his hand.  We will get the Moose Jaw perspective from Warriors GM Jason Ripplinger.The Prince George Cougars have been active ahead of the WHL Trade Deadline.  They've added two veterans in D Chase Pauls and F Borya Valis. Cougars GM/Head Coach Mark Lamb says they may not be done.  He'll be our guest.The Tempo WHL Player of the Week is Spokane Chiefs F Chase Bertholet.  The veteran F is coming off a big week and leads his team into a Central Division road swing.Finally, Red Deer Rebels G Chase Wutzke has elevated his play to get the Red Deer Rebels right back into the mix near the top of the Central Division and Eastern Conference.  He's the WHL Goaltender of the Month for December and will wrap up our show in conversation with Troy Gillard.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, has the story of a life saving incident involving two members of the Kelowna Rockets.  Both Ty Hurley and Ethan Neutens sprung into action at a recent overnight stop in Strathmore, AB.  We will hear from both.Two teams in the WHL's East Division are starting to make big moves.  Both the Saskatoon Blades and Brandon Wheat Kings are putting together lengthy winning streaks. More with Blades Head Coach Brennan Sonne and Wheat Kings GM/Head Coach Marty Murray.Quite the story in Prince George this season with rookie goaltender Josh Ravensbergen.  He's already tied the WHL rookie record for shutouts.  We will learn more about Josh as he wraps up our show in an interview with Cami Kepke.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, takes a closer look at the potential WHL talent for Canada's U20 World Junior Team.  Peter Anholt is the General Manager for Canada's bid for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships in Sweden.  He joins us to discuss the upcoming selection camp and what they are looking for in players.Sportsnet NHL Draft Analyst Sam Cosentino joins to discuss the top WHL NHL Draft Prospects for 2024.  His take on players like Berkly Catton, Ryder Ritchie, Carter Yakemchuk, Tig Iginla and more.It was a big week for Prince George Cougars F Koehn Ziemmer.  He signed his NHL Entry Level Contract with the LA Kings and was also named the Tempo WHL Player of the Week.  He joins Cole Waldie to wrap up Episode 10 of WHL This Week.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition takes a look at new mandatory neck guard protection taking effect this weekend.  The WHL's Vice President of Hockey Richard Doerksen stops by to explain what led to the change in protection standards and how they are working together to outfit teams.After spending nearly six weeks with the Toronto Maple Leafs, F Fraser Minten is back with the Kamloops Blazers for his 19 year-old season.  Fraser talks about his time with the Leafs, his NHL debut and coming back to captain the Blazers this season.November is a month for men's health and men's cancer awareness.  Vancouver Giants Head Coach Manny Viveiros has had his own personal battle.  He shares his story and spreads the word of awareness.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, takes a look at all the WHL players on NHL opening night rosters incuding Connor Bedard, Kevin Korchinski, Zach Benson and Fraser Minten who all made their NHL debuts this week.  Several high profile players continue to move on to the next level.The Vancouver Giants are again going out of the box with their latest jersey design.  They will wear "referee striped" sweaters later this month - a first across the sports landscape.  As Giants Asst. General Manager Pete Toigo explains, besides having some fun, it's also an awareness campaign for youth officials.Finally, it's been a whirwind week for F Easton Armstrong.  He's the Tempo WHL Player of the Week, but also was involved in  a trade from the Wenatchee Wild to the Saskatoon Blades.  He'll close out our show from the road with his new team after a great final week with Wenatchee.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, hears from WHL Vice-President of Hockey Richard Doerksen on some rule changes for the new season.  Doerksen -, now into his 46th year with the League -  will also comment on the contributing factors on a 25 game-suspension handed out earlier this week for check-from-behind last Saturday in Vancouver.Calgary Hitmen F London Hoilett is balancing hockey and a budding music career.  His song "Vibe 2 Night" was featured on the WHL's Opening Week video. It's part of collection of songs he has written and recorded under the artist name "Ty Kiddo". The Winnipeg native is making a name for himself on and off the ice. He'll be our guest.Finally, the 1st WHL Tempo Player of the Week is Zac Funk of the Prince George Cougars. His opening weekend included his first ever WHL Hat-trick. Funk will close out this week's show.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, kicks off a new season with WHL Commisioner Ron Robison.  As he enters his 24th season as WHL Commisioner, this year will be his last.  We will look back at his tenure, and look ahead as well.Spokane Chiefs F Berkly Catton is poised for a big season.  As a top 2024 NHL Draft Prospect, the former #1 pick overall in the WHL Prospects Draft is coming into a new year after leading Canada to a gold medal this summer at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in dramatic fashion.  He'll be our guest.Finally, Medicine Hat Tigers F Gavin McKenna is a rising star and still only 15 years-old. Not NHL draft eligible until 2026, McKenna is ready for his first full-time season in the WHL after showing well in 16 games last year in Medicine Hat.  The native of Whitehorse, YK takes us through a busy summer and how he's approaching the season ahead. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, updates the WHL Championship series presented by Nutrien.  The Seattle Thundebirds holding a 3-1 series stranglehold over the Winnipeg ICE. Hear from both players and coaches ahead of game five.The Portland Winterhawks and G Morgan Stickney made history at the 2023 CHL Prospects Draft.  The Redondo Beach, Calif. native became the first American-born female player to be drafted in the WHL when the Winterhawks selected her in the 10th round, #215 overall.  We will hear from her on being drafted and her connection to the Winterhawks.We are just a week away from the 2023 Memorial Cup Presented by KIA in Kamloops, BC.  We will check in on the planning and execution from the local host committee Chair Norm Daley.  It's the first time Kamloops hosted the event since 1995.Three-time Memorial Cup Champion and Calgary Flames Assistant Coach Ryan Huska is one of only four players all-time in the CHL to win three Memorial Cups.  Ryan takes us for a trip down memory lane as we preview this year's tournament looking back on his titles from 1992, 1994 and 1995.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, takes you back to Saskatoon for a thrilling game seven between the Blades and the Red Deer Rebels.  The Blades becoming just the third team in WHL history to win a series after being down 3-0. Hear from Head Coach Brennan Sonne and more on the heroics of Spencer Shugrue.The Winnipeg ICE now host the Saskatoon Blades in the Eastern Conference Championship presented by Nutrien. ICE veteran F Connor McClennon previews the series after a hard fought win over the Moose Jaw Warriors.Kamloops Blazers D Olen Zellweger is having quite the post-season. His 21 points ties him for the lead in playoff scoring.  He's also the WHL Player of the Week after a playoff record-tying performance in game four against Portland.  He'll be our guest as he looks ahead to the Western Conference Championship against Seattle. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, breaks down the NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings from a WHL perspective with TSN's Craig Button.  Currently covering the IIHF U-18 World Championships for TSN in Switzerland, Button leads off our show.We update the 2023 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien with a look at the Seattle Thunderbirds advancing.  We hear from reigning WHL Player of the Week Logan Stankoven after his Blazers advanced past the Portland Winterhawks in round two.The Moose Jaw Warriors and Winnipeg ICE head back to the Winnipeg capital tied 2-2 in their best-of-seven series.  Hear from Warriors F and Seattle Kraken prospect Jagger Firkus as the series turns into a best-of-three.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, recaps a game seven showdown between the Saskatoon Blades & Regina Pats that saw the Blades advance to round two of the WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien.  The elimination of the Regina Pats may also mark the end of the WHL path for Connor Bedard. He's projected as the first overall pick in the NHL Draft this summer and make the jump next season. Hear from Bedard as he addressed local media for a final time this season.The Red Deer Rebels meet up with the Blades now in round two.  Hear from 2023 NHL Draft eligible F Kalan Lind on a first round victory over the Calgary Hitmen and looking forward to the Rebels round two match-up.When the Kamloops Blazers take on the Portland Winterhawks in the second round series, longtime WHL Coach Don Hay has experience on both sides of the rivalry going back to the 90's.  After serving as an Assistant Coach in Portland the past four seasons, Hay is back with the Blazers and breaks down the series.Prince Albert Raiders Head Coach Jeff Truitt's season isn't over yet.  He's been tabbed by Hockey Canada to coach Canada's U-18 team at the upcoming IIHF U-18 World Championships in Sweden.  He'll be our guest. 

We have the latest on the 2023 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien. Get caught up-to-date with the wild endings and overtime finishes with four of the eight first round series now decided heading into the Easter Long Weekend.2023 NHL Draft eligible F Brayden Yager is our guest after his Moose Jaw Warriors eliminated Lethbridge in the 1st round best-of-seven series. We take a look at some of the WHL Year End Award nominees and Player of the Month winners.  To close out the show, we  hear from Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt who will lead the management team for Canada's World Junior team for the 2024 tournament in Sweden. 

WHL This Week - Episode 27, gets you ready for the 2023 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien.  First, the Prince Albert Raiders were the big winners of the 2023 WHL Prospect Draft Lottery.  The Raiders will now pick 1st & 2nd overall in May's WHL Prospects Draft.  We will hear from Raiders General Manager Curtis Hunt.Two WHL year-end awards have already been announced.  The Winnipeg ICE have captured the Scotty Munro Trophy as the best team in the regular season.  Connor Bedard is the Bob Clarke Trophy winner as the WHL's top scorer. The Seattle Thunderbirds - Kelowna Rockets 1st round series has an intriguing storyline. Seattle acquired Rockets captain Colton Dach at the trade deadline.  Dach will now face his former team in the playoffs.  He'll be our guest.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, takes a look at Connor Bedard's recent milestone after reaching 70 goals and helping the Regina Pats clinch a spot in the 2023 WHL Playoffs.It was quite the 1st ever NHL start for former Kamloops Blazers G Dylan Ferguson.  He made 48 saves for the Ottawa Senators in a 2-1 win in Pittsbirgh.  Ferguson went nearly five years between NHL appearances and will share his story of perserverance.  The Seattle Thunderbirds head into the 2023 WHL Playoffs as the tod seed in the Western Conference.  Head Coach Matt O'Dette talks about coaching a star-studded lineup that has yet to get to full-strength.Finally, one of the most intriguing 1st round series in the Western Conference features the Prince George Cougars (4) meeting the Tri-City Americns (5).  Cougars veteran F Jaxsen Wiebe will provide a playoff preview of what to expect.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition checks in with WHL alumnus Brandon Sutter who continues to fight to get back into the NHL despite suffering from the symptoms of Long Covid.  The 13-year NHL'er has been skating with his former junior team in Red Deer as he works to resume his pro career.Kamloops Blazers F Matthew Seminoff flirted with WHL history this week.  Seminoff's eight-point game vs Victoria is something that's been done only three times now since the mid-90's. The USPORTS University Cup is underway in PEI with more than 40 WHL Alumni taking part.  Hear from former WHL forward Jadon Joseph from the Canada West Champion University of Calgary Dinos.  Joseph spent parts of three seasons with the Lethbridge Hurricanes.Finally, Kelowna Rockets F Gabriel Szturc is the WHL Player of the Week after helping his team go three-for-three last weekend.  He'll wrap up the show.

It's an all-players edition of WHL This Week - Radio Edition.  We catch up with Seattle Thunderbirds F Dylan Guenther who was re-assigned by the NHL's Arizona Coyotes last month to bolster an already deep roster.  Guenther talks about the adjustment and what he wants to get out of his time with the Thunderbirds.The University of Calgary Dinos are headed to the USPORTS Men's Hockey National Championships in PEI.  They captured the Canada West title this past weekend.  Former Prince George Cougars F Josh Maser played a starring role in a pair of wins.  He'll discuss his team heading to Nationals and how he's been able to utilize the WHL Scholarship Program.Finally, what a week for Regina Pats D Stanislav Svozil.  After 1G-7A in three games, he was named the WHL Player of the Week.  He'll wrap up the show. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, checks in on the Tri-City Americans with General Manager Bob Tory.  From missing the playoffs last season to fighting for home ice advantage in round one, Tory shares more on the Americans.Playoff races are tight for the 2023 WHL Playoffs.  We will hear from both Medicine Hat Tigers GM/Coach Willie Desjardins and Kelowna Rockets Head Coach Kris Mallette as both teams try and grab one of the final playoff spots.Winnipeg ICE F Zach Benson had a 13 point week to be named the WHL Player of the Week.  He'll discuss his recent stretch and his team's lengthy road swing that continues this weekend.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, has more with Regina Pats F Connor Bedard after reaching the 50 goals, 100 point milestone for a second straight season in the WHL.  He'll be our guest as the Pats continue to battle for playoff positioning in the Eastern Conference.Kamloops Blazers D Olen Zellweger has produced at nearly two points per game since being acquired from the Everett Silvertips at the trade deadline.  With a +24 rating in 17 games, Zellweger has had an instant impact. He'll join us to discuss.The playoff chase is heating up in the Eastern Conference, hear from Swift Current Broncos Coach Devan Praught as he attempts to get the Broncos into the post-season for the first time since 2018.Finally former Spokane Chiefs GM Tim Speltz was recently presented with his WHL Governor's Award as a Builder.  He will share on his time in the league.

McCrimmon spent 27 years with the Brandon Wheat Kings organization in every capacity.  He was recently presented the award at WHL Board of Governor's meetings.  The General Manager of the Vegas Golden Knights will be our guest.We have a WHL Alumni update with former Spokane Chiefs/Prince Albert Raiders F Curtis Miske (2014-2018).  After four years in the WHL, Miske attended the University of Alberta earning a degree in Commerce.  He's now a Financial Advisor for IG Wealth Management.  Finally, Prince George Cougars F Chase Wheatcroft is coming off a good stretch of games as the Cougars push for home ice advantage in round one of the WHL Playoffs.  He's the WHL Player of the Week and will wrap up the show.  

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, checks in on one of our own.  We have a health update from legendary broadcaster Bob Ridley.  "Rids" is cancer free and updates what he's been up to.  The first winner of the Bob Ridley Award for Media Excellence, he called over 4000 games with the Medicine Hat Tigers.Former Portland Winterhawks F Jake Gricius is enjoying life after the WHL with the University of Calgary Dinos.  He's the WHL Canada West Graduate of the Month. More with him.  Also, big news regarding Dylan Guenther and Dylan Cozens and former Kamloops Blazer D Nolan Baumgartner was inducted into the AHL Hall of Fame.  Prince Albert Raiders D Landon Kosior will wrap up the show after being named the WHL Player of the Week following a successful BC road trip. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition features former WHL Goaltender Matt Berlin who jumped into an Edmonton Oilers game last last week against Chicago.  Berlin (2015-19 Spokane, Seattle, Kootenay) played the final 2:24 as the EBUG.  The University of Alberta Golden Bear 'tender shares his experience and the aftermath of his surprise NHL debut.Connor Bedard mania is sweeping the Central Division.  This past week, Bedard and the Pats played in front of a record crowd in Red Deer and over 17,000 in Calgary.  WHL Alumnus Luke Philip made his NHL debut this past week for the Chicago Blackhawks.  The former Kootenay ICE and Red Deer Rebels used his WHL Scholarship to Attend U of A after his WHL playing days.  He then started his professional career.  After three years in the AHL, Philp joined the Chicago Blackhawks for their Western road swing. It's called the Orange Jersey Project and it's something you'll see in WHL rinks this month.  The awareness campaign towards Indigenous Truth & Reconciliation will see WHL teams wear orange jerseys in warm-up.  Project Coordinator Jeremy Boston joins us to discuss the goals and partnership with the WHL.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, previews the upcoming 2023 Kubota CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game set for the Langley Events Centre January 25th.  F Jaden Lipinski from the host Vancouver Giants will join us. Ranked #38th amongst N.A. skaters by NHL Central Scouting, Lipinski will be hoping to use home ice advantage for the event.  Everett Silvertips F Jackson Berezowski is closing in on some club history. He sits two goals behind Patrick Bajkov for the all-time lead in goals in Silvertips history.  He's also the WHL Player of the Week after putting up eight goals and 12 points in three games.  He'll be our guest.A change of scenery is paying off for G Braden Holt. Acquired by the Victoria Royals, Holt has found new life on the Island. He's the WHL Goaltender of the Week and will wrap up this week's show. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, recaps a WHL laden Team Canada gold medal victory at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships.  After a dramatic overtime win, Canada claimed back-to-back gold medals at the event.  Tri-City Americans F Parker Bell is the McSweeney's WHL Player of the Month for December. Bell put up 21 points in the month to help the Americans climb all the way to 4th in Western Conference by New Year's Eve.The Victoria Royals have found some traction recently.  With the return of Team Captain Gannon Laroque, the Royals are looking more at a playoff push than a trade deadline sell-off. Royals General Manager / Coach Dan Price is a guest this week.Finally, Red Deer Rebels F Kai Uchacz has become a hat-trick machine lately.   After 10 goals in four games, he's the WHL Player of the Week. WHL This Week - Radio Edition, heads to the 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships with Team Canada Head Coach Dennis Williams.  The Head Coach / GM of the Everett Silvertips has Canada preparing for a New Year's Eve matchup against Sweden before the playoffs begin.  He'll join us from Halifax.The Saskatoon Blades are right in the mix of the top teams after the Holiday break.  Blades General Manager Colin Priestner updates us on the season and just what he's looking at ahead of the WHL Trade Deadline on January 10th.Finally, WHL linesmen twins Cody & Chad Huseby recently got the call of a lifetime... on short notice.  They were asked to fill in officiating duties in Edmonton for the NHL Oilers and Vancouver Canucks game on December 23rd.  It was their NHL debuts for the 37 year-old longtime WHL officials.  Cody takes us through the getting the call, and the hectic day before hitting the big stage with his brother.

The disease has affected many loved ones around him., He explains his motiviation and the strong response so far.

They are also flirting with the WHL's best win streak to start the season.  General Manager & President Brent Sutter talks about the start and this year's edition of the Rebels.The future - the WHL had 43 players listed in the NHL Central Scouting's Preliminary Players to Watch List. Seven players were assigned "A" ratings. WHL This Week - Radio Edition focuses in on three players with different stories.  First, Logan Stankoven has been returned to the Kamloops Blazers after spending nearly five weeks with the Dallas Stars.  The reigning CHL Player of the Year will attempt to lead his hometown team to the Memorial Cup Presented by KiA which they will host in the spring.Three year Kelowna Rockets F Pavel Novak has won a big battle off the ice.  After a five month fight, he has been declared cancer free. The Minnesota Wild prospect updates his situation from back home in the Czech Republic.Saskatoon Blades F Connor Roulette has been named the WHL Player of the Week.  Traded to Saskatoon from Seattle to start the season, Roulette has tapped into his Indigenous roots for inspiration.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, updates the 2022 WHL Playoffs with the Edmonton Oil Kings the first to advance to the WHL's Conference Finals.  Here from Coach Brad Lauer and forwards Dylan Guenther & Carter Souch.The WHL hosts both it's US Prospects Draft and the 2022 WHL Prospects Draft next week for players born in 2007.  WHL Manager of Hockey Operations Taylor Green will preview both events and give us some names to watch for draft day.Matt Bardsley is back in the WHL. Warriors F Ryder Korzack will be our guest.What a season for Red Deer Rebels F Arshdeep Bains.  He won the WHL's Bobby Clarke as the league's leading scorer, signed an NHL Entry Level Contract with the Vancouver Canucks as an undrafted free-agent and now prepares to lead his team into the second round of the playoffs.  Bains will talk about all that and more this week.Finally, for the second time this season, Kamloops Blazers F Logan Stankoven has been named the McSweeney's WHL Player of the Month after putting up 26 points in just 10 games.  He'll wrap up the show. 

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, updates the 2022 WHL Playoffs with the opening round continuing into a second weekend.  We will take a look at the Saskatoon Blades who forced a game five in Moose Jaw.Luke Toporowski is enjoying a strong start to the playoffs with the Kamloops Blazers.  The former Spokane Chief sits tied in playoff goals and has his team on the verge of advancing to round two. We'll talk to him about going back to Spokane.The Portland Winterhawks were the first team to advance to round two.  After finishing up a series sweep in Prince George, we will hear from G Taylor Gauthier and F Gabe Klassen.Finally, the Medicine Hat Tigers won the WHL Prospects Draft Lottery last week.  They will select first overall next month in the WHL Prospects Draft.  Tigers Director of Player Personnel Bobby Fox will join us to discuss the first overall pick, and a big draft for the Tigers.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition recaps a final regular season game for Regina Pats 16 year-old Connor Bedard in which he hit both the 50 goal and 100 point milestone.  He made an appearance on TSN's That's Hockey following the conclusion of his regular season.WHL Commisioner Ron Robison is our guest to kick off the 2022 WHL Playoffs. After a challenging regular season, the WHL is set to host playoff hockey for the first time since May of 2019.The WHL hosted it's Draft Lottery for next month's WHL Prospects Draft. We'll recap the draft order and take a look at the award finalists for June 1st.Regina Pats captain Logan Nijhoff has been named the winner of the Dana Brons Honourary Award for his work with Hockey Gives Blood.  Program Co-founder Stu Middleton will tell us why Logan was a fitting winner of the annual award.  

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, has one final show before the 2022 WHL Playoffs.  We take a closer look at the remaining playoff races in the Eastern and Western Conference. Four playoff spots remain up for grabs while only two of the eight first round playoff series are set.  Meanwhile the WHL scoring race for the Bob Clarke Trophy appears to be all but decided headed into the final weekend.There is a new WHL all-time leader in goaltender wins. Royal University in Calgary and will be our guest to discuss life after the WHL.Call them the WHL's Super 16's. A six-pack of 2005-born players are putting up numbers not seen in nearly 40 years in the WHL as a collective group. We will hear from Kelowna Rockets F Andrew Cristall.Finally, Seattle Thunderbirds F Lukas Svejkovsky has been named the WHL's Player of the Week for his five goals, and three assists in a trio of Thunderbirds wins.  He'll close out our show.

WHL This Week - Radio Edition, pays tribute to one of it's own - Les Lazaruk of the Saskatoon Blades.  The veteran broadcaster called his 2000th game this week.  Les will begin our show.WHL Alumnus Shane Doan is now leading Canada into the Beijing Olympics as the General Manager of the Men's Hockey Team.  The co-owner of the Kamloops Blazers has one eye on gold, and another on the Blazers in Kamloops.The Swift Current Broncos have removed the interim tag from General Manager Chad Leslie.  We'll update the Broncos situation.Finally, Logan Stankoven put up 24 points in the month of January including 13 in the final week to be named both the WHL Player of the Week and WHL McSweeney's Player of the Month.  We'll talk to the Dallas Stars prospect about what's motivating him.

Dyck talks about their focus in the 2nd half.Winnipeg ICE goaltender Daniel Hauser has set a new CHL record for games started in a career without a regulation loss. WHL This Week - Radio Edition, features Edmonton Oil Kings General Manager Kirt Hill.  It's been a challenging time for GM's across the league with constant schedule adjustments due to Covid-19 and weather related postponements.  Hill has made a couple of major roster moves and is all-in on a run at the Ed Chynoweth Cup. "The Battle of the Sound" is coming to Seattle's Climate Pledge Arena. It's a game between the rival Seattle Thunderbirds and the Everett Silvertips.  Silvertips COO Zoran Rajcic is happy to be part of it all as the visiting team.  He'll talk more about the February game in the home rink of the NHL's Seattle Kraken.Is their anyone hotter in the WHL right now than Victoria Royals winger Bailey Peach?
