Thu, 11 Jun 2026 - 33min - 343 - Financial fragmentation: the $6 trillion cost of breaking the "plumbing" of global finance
The global economy is fragmenting, and it could lead to a hit of $6 trillion to GDP worldwide. That's more than the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic or the 2008 financial crisis.
So what exactly is causing this fragmentation, and can the impacts be mitigated?
Finance industry experts join us to explore the forces of fragmentation and examine a new report by the World Economic Forum and Oliver Wyman, which quantifies its impact and details the consequences on the global economy and emerging markets in particular.
Guests:
Matt Strahan, Private Market Initiatives Lead at the World Economic Forum
Daniel Tannebaum, Global Anti-Financial Crime Practice Leader at Oliver Wyman
Anne Walsh, Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Guggenheim Partners
Daniel Mminele, Chairman of Nedbank

Thu, 04 Jun 2026 - 49min - 342 - Chief Economists Outlook: counting the cost of the Hormuz crisis, with Maersk's Ilaria Maselli
As the World Economic Forum publishes its latest Chief Economists Outlook, Maersk's Head of Macro & Market Insights Ilaria Maselli gives her view on the state of the global economy.
The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, "the aorta of global fossil fuel trade", is one of the "biggest crises" in the history of capitalism, with huge implications for economies around the world, Maselli says.
And we discuss how the impact of the Hormuz crisis compares to the shock that the COVID pandemic imposed on the world, in terms of economic growth and inflation.

Katharine Hayhoe is a climate scientist and an evangelical Christian who lives in Texas and knows how to reach out to conservatives who might see climate change as a party political rather than a science-based issue.
Two years after she last spoke to Radio Davos, Prof Hayhoe assesses the rise of climate denialism, particularly on social media, but also the rising awareness of the issue caused by increasingly frequent extreme weather events around the world.

Thu, 23 Apr 2026 - 54min - 337 - The one skill you need to succeed in your career in a turbulent world - by Adam Grant
"We don't live in a stable world anymore. We live in a rapidly changing, turbulent world. And in a dynamic environment, intelligence is not just your ability to think and learn, it's your capacity to rethink and unlearn."
Adam Grant, organizational psychologist, podcaster, and author of the bestseller "Think Again", tells us why we are wrong in many of our assumptions about today's world, and why we would all benefit from tackling our own biases - not least the "I'm-not-biased" bias.
And he explains why the wrong sorts of people too often get promoted or elected to positions of power.
Adam spoke to Radio Davos at the World Economic Forum's Annual Meeting 2026 in Davos, Switzerland.

Christian Keller, Head of Economics Research at Barclays Investment Bank, joins to flesh out the key parts of the latest outlook – and helps us understand why tariffs haven't proven to be quite the disaster economists feared (yet), and why people are saying that even if this is an AI bubble, it might in some ways be a good one.

The Global Risks Report, the World Economic Forum's annual snapshot of the biggest risks facing the world in the near, medium and long terms, shows geopolitical and economic risks on the rise in the new 'age of competition'.
The report is published just days before the Forum's Annual Meeting and is a good indicator of what the 3,000 leaders convening in Davos, Switzerland will be talking about.
Gayle Markovitz is joined by a co-host, Forum Managing Director Saadia Zahidi, and two expert guests, Peter Giger, Group Chief Risk Officer at Zurich Insurance, and Andrew George, Global President of Specialties at Marsh.
The Global Risks Report, available here, was compiled by Mark Elsner and Grace Atkinson of the Forum's Global Risks Initiative.
Catch up on all the action from the Annual Meeting at wef.ch/wef26 and across social media using the hashtag #WEF26. And follow Radio Davos wherever you get podcasts to get our daily morning shows every day of the Davos week, starting Monday, 19 January.

Lyunn Kuok, Lee Kuan Yew, Chair in Southeast Asia Studies at the Brookings Institution, and a member of the Forum's Global Future Council on Geopolitics, analyses the state of the global relations almost a year into the second Donald Trump presidency. Thu, 23 Oct 2025 - 56min - 308 - "All of this is teamwork" - how 'industrial clusters' are accelerating the energy transition
The transition to net-zero is a daunting challenge for any industry - but what if diverse sectors can help each other speed up progress? That's what can happen in an 'industrial cluster'.
In the episode we hear from two such clusters - the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium and the Andalusia Green Hydrogen Valley in Spain - just two of the more than 35 industrial clusters around the world, supported by the World Economic Forum's Transitioning Industrial Clusters (TIC) initiative, to drive economic growth, employment and cut greenhouse gas emissions.
And we speak to the head of the Mission Possible Partnership - an organisation that works to advance the energy transition in industry which also puts a strong emphasis on industry clusters or 'clean industrial hubs'.

Thu, 09 Oct 2025 - 1h 16min - 306 - Neurotechnology could help billions of people. Has its time come?
Electronic devices that tap into a human's nervous system have been around for decades, for example to help paralysed people move and deaf people hear. Now, a new generation of neurotechnology promises to revolutionise treatments for a range of conditions that afflict billions of people.
We look at the benefits and assess the risks with Jen French, a campaigner for access to neurotechnlolgy who has been using a device for 25 years since a snowboarding accident made her quadriplegic. And Tom Oxley, the CEO of neurotech startup Synchron, explains how 'brain computer interfaces' are giving paralysed patients the ability to use computers and smart phones.
They also address concerns about things such as data privacy, unequal access to health tech, and device 'abandonment'.

In this episode, we hear how the First Movers Coalition helps create that market by getting big companies to invest in emerging technologies that aim to de-carbonise the 'hard to abate' sectors. And we meet the buyer and seller of low-emissions cement doing just that.
Speakers:
Noam Boussidan, Programme Head, First Movers Coalition
Julia Fidler, Head of Materials and Fuels Decarbonisation, Microsoft
Joe Hicken, Senior Vice President of Business Development and Policy, Sublime Systems

Thu, 11 Sep 2025 - 38min - 302 - What are 'embedded emissions' and can global trade help reduce them?
The European Union is implementing a 'Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism' (CBAM) that will levy a fee on importing certain goods that are produced in countries that lack regulations forcing producers to cut their greenhouse gas emissions.
It's an idea that other countries are considering, but is also hugely complex and may be challenged by exporter countries. Two expert guests explain the policy and its implications for business and global trade.

Aaron Cosbey, Senior Associate, International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD)
Dandy Rafitrandi, researcher at the Department of Economics, Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Indonesia

Thu, 04 Sep 2025 - 44min - 301 - BONUS EPISODE: Ones & Tooze
Welcome to this bonus episode of Radio Davos.
A few episodes ago we interviewed author and historian Adam Tooze about geopolitics. Adam has his own podcast, Ones & Tooze, published by Foreign Policy where he is also a columnist. We thought we would pop an episode on the Radio Davos feed so you can take a listen. In this episode, Adam and his co-host Foreign Policy deputy editor Cameron Abadi, look at the state of global development.
Radio Davos will be back very soon, in the meantime enjoy this episode of Ones and Tooze.
Ones and Tooze show notes:
Whither Global Development
Some 10 years ago, the United Nations came up with its Sustainable Development Goals, a series of objectives for the world around alleviating poverty and protecting the planet. But these days, it's clear that very few of those goals will be met by the target date of 2030. What happened? And what does the Trump administration's retreat from international development mean for the world?
On this episode of Ones and Tooze, a weekly economics podcast from Foreign Policy magazine, hosts Adam Tooze and Cameron Abadi dig in.
New episodes of Ones and Tooze are released every Friday. Follow the show on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen.

Mon, 01 Sep 2025 - 43min - 300 - Climate science is clearer than ever. How should companies respond?
The politics might change, but the science is clearer than ever. The planet is warming - and even faster than predicted - due to the emission of greenhouse gases. Faced with the facts, where do businesses, policymakers, and the rest of us go from here?
We get the latest in climate science from Johan Rockström, director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, and hear from Sumant Sinha, the head of India-based renewable energy company ReNew, on the outlook for business.
The episode is co-hosted by Pim Valdre, head of the World Economic Forum's Climate Ambition Initiative and leader of the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders.

Thu, 27 Mar 2025 - 29min - 281 - 'I want my daughter to have the same opportunities as my sons - that's not unreasonable,' - Crystal Awardee David Beckham
David Beckham shot to fame in the 1990s playing football for Manchester United and England and boosted the game's profile in the USA playing for LA Galaxy. Off the pitch he was at the centre of Cool Britiannia-era glamour, marrying Posh Spice pop star-turned-fashion designer Victoria.
He's a global brand, and he has used that fame and influence, among other things, as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations children's fund, UNICEF, where his 7 Fund - named after the number he wore on the pitch - works in schools around the world to combat bullying, violence, child marriage and missed education.
Beckham, who turns 50 this year, was at the Forum's Annual Meeting in Davos to receive a Crystal Award, which the Forum bestows on people in arts and entertainment who have gone beyond the day job to help improve the state of the world.
At a time when overseas development is under pressure like never before, and with a rise in online misogyny, we spoke to David Beckham about his work with UNICEF and his role as a father.

We also hear from the head of the Hollywood actors' union on why moviemakers went on strike over the threat posed by AI. And from Refik Anadol, a leading light in AI-generated art.

Tue, 18 Jun 2024 - 16min - 251 - What are the 'positive tipping points' that could help us accelerate out of climate disaster?
Climate 'tipping points' are the dangerous phenomena that could suddenly make climate change even worse than it is already: melting ice sheets that could change ocean currents, thawing permafrost that releases vast amounts of methane, or rainforests turning into dry savannah - events that could completely destabilise the global environment and would be hard or impossible to reverse.
But, according to a growing number of climate scientists, there is also the prospect of 'positive tipping points'. Things that can happen to speed up the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in ways that humanity has so far failed to achieve.
One of those is Tim Lenton, Professor of Climate Change and Earth System Science at the University of Exeter. As you will hear in the interview, other climate experts use terms such as 'social tipping points' or 'sensitive intervention points' - Professor Lenton says these are similar concepts that altogether should dispel the notion that we are doomed by climate change.

Thu, 06 Jun 2024 - 21min - 250 - 'We have the most to benefit, but also the most to lose': how AI could transform human health
Artificial intelligence has the potential to massively improve human health: from developing new drugs to providing more accurate diagnoses and helping people who live with severe disabilities.
But AI also has the potential, if used wrongly or governed badly, to make life worse for people dealing with health problems.
In this episode, we hear from people on the front lines of the technology.

Wed, 29 May 2024 - 37min - 249 - Tourism is bouncing back - but can we make travel sustainable?
With the pandemic well behind us, international travel has bounced back. The World Economic Forum's Travel and Tourism Development Index, a major survey of the state of the sector, gives a clear picture of how things look around the world. Maksim Soshkim, who leads much of the Forum's work on the issue tells us the headlines, and Jacqueline Gifford, Editor-in-Chief of Travel + Leisure magazine, gives her take on the state of the travel scene.
One of the key areas the TTDI looks at is sustainability - the impact of travel and tourism on the environment and local communities. And in this episode we hear from two people engaged in making tourism more sustainable: a hotel company taking action across its supply chain, and the head of tourism for Rwanda, where income from foreign visitors helps conserve a unique ecosystem and its endangered mountain gorillas.
Speakers:
Maksim Soshkin, Centre for Energy and Materials, World Economic Forum
Jacqueline Gifford, Editor-in-Chief, Travel + Leisure
Neil Jacobs, CEO, Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas
Michaella Rugwizangoga, Chief Tourism Officer, Rwanda

Tue, 21 May 2024 - 1h 01min - 248 - Tinder Swindler: how 'romance fraud' became a multi-billion dollar cybercrime
The Netflix documentary 'The Tinder Swindler' is a mind-boggling case of so-called 'romance fraud' in which a charming, handsome - and apparently very rich - man meets women on a dating app - gets them to fall in love with him - and then cons them out of lots of money.
Cecilie Fjellhøy is the Norwegian woman at the centre of the documentary whose life was torn apart by the actions of a conman. A survivor of romance fraud on a grand scale, she now advocates for the rights of, and support for, others who find themselves in similar grim circumstances.
We also hear from Sean Doyle, who works at the World Economic Forum's Centre for Cybersecurity, on just how widespread romance fraud really is, why it's a multinational, multi-billion form of cyber crime, and what is being done to combat it.

Thu, 16 May 2024 - 41min - 247 - Spatial computing: why the future of the internet is 3D
'Spatial computing', 'blended reality', 'the metaverse'. For those of us who still use screens and keyboards to access the digital world, those phrases might not mean very much. But many experts believe the '2D' internet will soon be a thing of the past, and we will all be, one way or another, in a 3D metaverse.
With Apple's Vision Pro headset renewing interest in virtual reality, we speak to two proponents of the metaverse who see both huge opportunities and significant risks.
Guests:Yonatan Raz-Fridman, CEO of Supersocial and host of the podcast "Into the Metaverse"
Brittan Heller, lecturer on International Law, Technology, and Human Rights, Stanford University.

Thu, 09 May 2024 - 36min - 246 - Where are the innovations that can make mining more sustainable?
Mining is an industry that many of us probably rarely think about, but one that provides the raw materials for so many of the things we use, not least the modern technologies such as smart phones and electric vehicles that require certain minerals that are not always in abundant supply.
The International Energy Agency predicts that the demand for minerals will double by 2040. So how can we meet that demand in the most energy efficient and sustainable way?
UpLink, the open innovation platform of the World Economic Forum, is inviting entrepreneurs who have answers to that question to take part in its Sustainable Mining Challenge - a competition that aims to pick the most promising startups in the field.
On this episode we speak to Vivek Salgaocar, the founder of Prospect Innovation, which is the leading funder and business partner of the Sustainable Mining Challenge, and to Megan O'Connor, CEO and Co-founder of Nth Cycle, a company which is innovating in ways to better recycle mining waste.
This podcast is published around the World Economic Forum's Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development. Find more information at wef.ch/specialmeeting24 and across social media using the hashtag #specialmeeting24.
