- 423 - Xbox Pulls Off a Kojima Coup & Moves to Phase 2 of Their "Reset" - Episode 410
In what can only be described as shocking, and incredibly upsetting news (ESPECIALLY to Kevin), PlayStation made the decision to pull funding from Kojima's upcoming Action Espionage game PHYSINT. All was not lost, though, as XBOX decided to swoop in and save the day. Is this the straw that finally breaks Kevin's camel's back?!? Xbox then followed that up with some less than stellar news as they continue down their "Reset" path by shuffling, and shutting down, some of their first party studios. Other topics include further details about the upcoming Terranigma re-release, new info on GTA 6, Kevin AGAIN trying Witcher 3, Sean falling for BALL x PIT, and lots more.

The Ocarina of Time Remake has finally been revealed for Nintendo Switch 2, and Sean’s favorite game of all-time looks like it’s getting the remake he’s always wanted. Nintendo’s Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct may as well have been called the Ocarina of Time Direct — and the guys are perfectly fine with that. They break down everything shown from the Ocarina of Time Remake, including its graphical style, gameplay changes, expanded dialogue, voice acting, and just how closely Nintendo appears to be sticking to the original N64 classic. Plus, the guys share their impressions of the Final Fantasy Resonance demo, Kevin has finished Darksiders II, Sean has already jumped into Darksiders III, and they wrap up the rest of the week’s gaming news.

Rockstar FINALLY pulled the curtain back on what is potentially the most anticipated video game release of all time. GTA VI's Extended Look showed off over 26 minutes of brand new footage, and it somehow looks even BETTER than everyone anticipated. The guys run through all their thoughts on the mind-blowing graphical fidelity, it seemingly running near 60FPS, gunplay, car-jacking, disguises, mini-games, character switching, voice acting, and much more. Other topics include Kevin finally getting into (and LOVING) Darksiders 1 & 2, his first time playing Madden in 4 years, another PlayStation live-service game on the brink of cancellation, and highlights from Geoff Keighley's Gamescom Opening Night Live!

They touch on this to kick off the show, before catching up on things over the past few weeks across all forms of media. These include their thoughts on The Odyssey, Spider-Man Brand New Day, Kevin's absolute slog of a journey to the Crosscode Platinum, the DELIGHTFUL Star Wars DLC for PowerWash Simulator 2, and Kevin's time so far with the highly anticipated Halo: Campaign Evolved.

Xbox's "reset" is here. With it came news that 3,200 employees with Xbox (15% of all employees) will be losing their jobs, 5 studios will be departing Xbox, Xbox lost 64 cents of every dollar invested, along with significant downstream impacts. Not content to let Xbox have all the fun, PlayStation announced that they are killing physical disc production in January 2028. This, understandably, resulted in what is probably the biggest public relations disaster in PlayStation history. THIS is why XBOX fans can't have nice things... Within days of what was largely viewed as a great XBOX Games Showcase, the wheels started falling off. Asha Sharma kicked things off with her "major reset" letter giving a brutally honest look at the XBOX business, then the reports started flooding in about major layoffs coming, studio shutdowns (including Ninja Theory who JUST ANNOUNCED a new game), longtime execs leaving, and on and on... As PC Gamer put it, "XBOX speedruns 'we're so back' to 'its so over' at a speed previously thought impossible." Thu, 07 May 2026 - 1h 13min - 414 - Jim Ryan Freakin FIRED Shuhei Yoshida & Game Pass DROPS in Price - Episode 401
Jim Ryan's legacy at PlayStation is not exactly looked upon fondly. Over the last week, that legacy took another brutal hit when Shuehei Yoshida opened up about his exit from PlayStation after 31 years. Long story short, he was forced out by Jim Ryan for not just blindly following along with some "ridiculous things" that came from Jim himself... Meanwhile, over at Xbox, new CEO of Microsoft Gaming Asha Sharma announced the first good news that Xbox fans have had in quite a long time. Game Pass Ultimate and Game Pass PC are DROPPING in price, after recently being raised to $30 and $16.50 respectively. The new prices ($23 per month for Ultimate and $14 per month for PC) are still higher than they were 6 months ago, and this decrease also means that COD will no longer come to Game Pass on Day 1, but this is still a win for fans of Xbox. Other topics discussed include the guys' thankfulness for the reception of their Saint Slayer review, their thoughts on the Mario Galaxy movie and WrestleMania 42, Sean's time with Mouse: PI for Hire, and Kevin's excitement after playing the Replaced demo.

The world of video games over the past week can be summed up by the timeless Jim Halpert quote "WHAT IS GOING ON?!?". PlayStation shut down beloved developer Bluepoint Games on Thursday, and then on Friday Xbox came out and said "Hold my beer" as Phil Spencer was announced to be "retiring", and Sarah Bond "resigned" from her position as well. Oh yeah, and the new head of Microsoft Gaming has no experience in games, but most recently was in charge of Microsoft's CoreAI program, so this is probably going to go GREAT! Let's discuss.

With last week's State of Play, it is easy to say that they absolutely delivered on that hype! Fri, 06 Jun 2025 - 1h 49min - 397 - DOOM: The Dark Ages is GOTY Material - Episode 384
Kevin had only played the demo of DOOM 2016, and tapped out mid-way through DOOM Eternal back in 2020. Despite this, he was very excited to get his hands on DOOM: The Dark Ages ever since it was first revealed. What he did not expect, though, was for it to end up his EASY Game of the Year so far in 2025. He goes deep into his thoughts after beating, and Platinuming, the game and all of his experiences across his 25+ hours of gameplay. Sean finally brought home his 100th Platinum with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which Kevin beat but won't be trying to Platinum, so the guys give their final thoughts on it, including an unintentionally hilarious final boss fight. Other topics include Superman's final trailer, TLOU Season 2's ending, and a hype check with the Switch 2 launch being only a week away.

However, a new report from Jeff Grubb indicates that we may actually be getting a GOW side-story set in Greece later this year! Sony stayed in control of the headlines with the surprising announcement of a new first-party studio launch named Dark Outlaw Games. Sony's latest State of Play presentation was, in our eyes, a very good one! From a dope looking new 2D Shinobi game from the developerss of Streets of Rage 4, to the fantastic looking Tides of Annihilation, as well as the reveal of Housemarque's next game, and seemingly spiritual successor to Returnal, Saros, there was a lot to get excited about! However, because the internet is the internet, not everyone feels like the same, and people need to just be mad about something no matter what. Nevertheless, the guys run through everything that was covered and give their thoughts on how the show fared overall. Oh also, Sean is an idiot and couldn't figure out how to turn his mic on for the first 45 minutes that they tried to record, so they lovingly relive that for all of you to kick things off. Enjoy!

The big question around Game Pass ever since the ABK acquisition, other than "Will Call of Duty come to Game Pass?", has been "Will Xbox raise prices on Game Pass?" We now have that answer, and it is yes. The pricing isn't the only thing changing though, as Microsoft has taken the bold step of removing Day-One first party releases from all Game Pass tiers except for the most expensive option. On top of that, PC Game Pass players do get access but for almost half the cost of what console players have to pay. Is Xbox giving the middle finger to their dedicated console base? The other big topic for the week is Kevin was finally able to jump into Shadow of the Erdtree and he shares all of his thoughts after spending 28 hours in the DLC. Square Enix has always been a third-party developer/publisher, but over the years they have become synonymous with PlayStation. That seems to be changing in the very-near future. After announcing that both FF7 Remake and FF16 failed to hit internal targets, some questionable publishing decisions, and layoffs across the US and EU, Square Enix has announced they will be getting aggressive with more multi-platform releases. Overall this is a good thing for gamers everywhere, but the biggest question right now is what this means for the FF7 Remake project moving forward. In other news PlayStation announced that they have named not one, but TWO new CEOs to replace Jim Ryan and Interim CEO Hiroki Totoki, and the fallout from Xbox's shocking studio closures continues to reverberate through the industry. The guys were all set to have a really fun and upbeat podcast, and then Xbox threw the whole industry into a tizzy by shutting down four studios, two of which were beloved to say the least. It is yet another example of how Game Pass makes no sense as a business model, and why spending upwards of $80 BILLION on two acquisitions is only a good thing for shareholders. Once again, the frontline workers get absolutely screwed. Outside of that tirade, they also discuss the newest (and most promising so far) leaks about the successor to the Switch, Sean's Platinum for Tales of Kenzera: Zau, Kevin gushing about beating Bioshock Infinite, our first look at Henry Cavill's replacement Superman, and lots more. Wed, 09 Aug 2023 - 1h 11min - 342 - Switch 2 in 2024 & Ubisoft Hates Us - Episode 330
For seemingly endless months before the release of the Nintendo Switch, it seemed like we spent nearly every episode talking about rumor or patents of what was then known simply as the NX. With the Switch's successor, the opposite has been true. Until now... VGC broke the news from multiple reliable sources that Nintendo's next hardware launch is schedule for the second half of next year, but details about the system remain scant. What do the guys think/hope Nintendo has in store for their follow up to one of the best selling console of all time? We also got word this past week that Ubisoft has seemingly canceled the sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising, much to the chagrin of the guys. Is Ubisoft's reliance on Assassin's Creed going the way of Activision with Call of Duty? It sure seems that way...
