- 262 - Friday Favorites: Emma - A Day at Donwell Abbey
The weather is getting warmer, and that means it's the perfect time to explore the great outdoors. When the initial plan of going to Box Hill is delayed, Mr. Knightley invites a party of friends to his home at Donwell Abbey to partake in his bountiful strawberry harvest. Mrs. Elton quickly tires herself out, Mr. Woodhouse spends his time indoors with a fire, and Jane Fairfax departs Abbey early, just as Frank Churchill arrives late and out of spirits. It's an eventful afternoon for everyone, and this week's Friday Favorites takes us around the Highbury set, so let their visit to the Abbey carry you away into a night of peaceful and restorative sleep.

After a week in Bath, Catherine Morland has finally made an acquaintance, and he's a delightful one. She's introduced to a young man named Tilney, who is lively, intelligent, and nearly handsome. He's a witty dance partner, and Catherine is smitten. Mr. Tilney's knowledge of muslins even charms Mrs. Allen. Meanwhile, Mr. Allen's inquiries leave him satisfied that Mr. Tilney is a respectable clergyman from Gloucestershire, and perfectly appropriate for his young charge. Things are at last looking up for our heroine, and as they do, let Mr. Tilney's charms bring you into a night of soft and restful sleep.

Mon, 19 Oct 2026 - 28min - 260 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Mr. Knightley Grows Suspicious
Summer has arrived at Hartfield, and it's full of schemes and connivances, at least for Emma. But Mr. Knightley isn't so sure that her hopes will come to fruition. He's lately observed that there appears to be some sort of understanding, perhaps even admiration, between Frank Churchill and none other than Jane Fairfax. The more he sees, the surer he is, and he knows he must let Emma know his suspicions. But Emma will have none of it; after all, she's the one who is a keen judge of character, not Mr. Knightley. Our latest Friday Favorites brings another character into the romantic fold, and as it does, let it help you ease your mind into a night of gentle slumber.

Armed with advice from her mother and ten guineas from her father, Catherine Morland is ready to set off on her journey to Bath with the Allens. But when they arrive, they realize that it will be harder than they realized to fit in. Though they are well-dressed, thanks to Mrs. Allen's fashion sense, they have no acquaintances in Bath. Catherine's first ball involves more watching from the sidelines than dancing with handsome men. But at least she overhears some gentlemen calling her pretty, which is more than enough to keep her in good spirits for now. As Catherine gets settled in Bath, let her story help you settle in for a night of warm and peaceful sleep.

Harriet has recovered from her unfortunate run-in after the ball, and with her recovery has come a new mental clarity. She is at last completely over her attachment to Mr. Elton. To mark the end of her affection, Harriet has come to Hartfield to participate in the time-honored tradition of burning her mementos of her former beloved. Emma is both shocked and bemused, not realizing how deep Harriet's attachment really was. But when Harriet mentions that her affections have shifted to her rescuer from the night of the ball, Emma is delighted, though she promises not to interfere. This week's Friday Favorites brings a new chapter for Harriet and Emma, so let the beats of familiar story help you bring you a fresh night of relaxing sleep.

Mon, 28 Sep 2026 - 02min - 254 - Friday Favorites: Emma - The Highbury Ball
With Frank Churchill back in town, there is at last nothing to prevent the long-awaited Highbury ball from taking place. Though Frank is noticeably cooler towards Emma than before, it doesn't bother her too much, because her night is full of laughter, dancing, and lots of chatter from Miss Bates. And when Mr. Knightley gallantly steps up to save Harriet from a terribly rude snub from Mr. Elton, Emma is delighted. The two end the night dancing together -- what more could Emma ask for? This week's Friday Favorites brings a beloved Highbury highlight, and as it does, let the warm and familiar story help you find your way into a night of peaceful sleep.

Mrs. Elton continues to be the talk of the town in Highbury, and Emma, not to be outdone, arranges a dinner party for her. The dinner also gives Emma a chance to make good on her renewed desire to be a friend to Jane Fairfax by including her in the party. When they all discover that Jane walked to the post office this morning in the rain, it quickly becomes a hot topic of conversation. Elinor helps as best she can, but her calm is suddenly disrupted when the Dashwoods' manservant comes home with news of seeing the new Mrs. Ferrars in Exeter. It's the moment Elinor has been dreading, and though her emotions may be less visible than Marianne's, they are no less strong. Mon, 31 Aug 2026 - 31min - 246 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Mrs. Elton Sets Her Sights on Jane Fairfax
Mrs. Elton is settling into Highbury, and has yet to give Emma any reason to reconsider her initial opinion of her. In fact, Mrs. Elton fixes on another young lady as the target of her attention, none other than Jane Fairfax. What is most surprising to Emma is that Jane Fairfax seems to go along with it, even though Emma is sure she knows better. A discussion with her friends Mrs. Weston and Mr. Knightley reassures Emma of one important thing, however, that Mr. Knightley seems uninterested in Jane Fairfax as anything other than a friend. This week's Friday Favorites is a peek into the dynamics of Highbury society, and as new connections form, let them help you connect with a deeper state of relaxation as you fall into soft and gentle sleep.

Illness has made Marianne more reflective than usual, and she is sincere in her desire to improve herself and express gratitude to her loved ones. The contrition convinces Elinor that it is all right to tell Marianne about Willoughby's visit and the feelings he expressed about his own role in the matter. The conversation overwhelms the still-delicate Marianne, and she needs to take time to rest and recover. As she does, let the latest chapter in her story help you find your way into your own rest and recovery as you drift into a night of deep sleep.

Highbury has a new resident, and she is certainly something. At long last, Mr. Elton's bride has arrived, and Emma finds her positively insufferable. Between Mrs. Elton's comparisons between Highbury and her brother's estate, Maple Grove, her insistence that she and Emma start a musical club, and her overly familiar way of speaking about Emma's friends, Emma is hard-pressed to find a single redeeming quality. And Mrs. Dashwood brings even better news: Colonel Brandon has confessed his love for Marianne. Frank Churchill has left Highbury, leaving Emma to contemplate her feelings. Could she be in love? Emma is unconvinced of her own feelings for Frank, though it's evident that he has clearly formed an attachment to her. And an offhand comment in his latest letter suggests that he could be convinced to have some affection for Harriet, which is a comfort to Emma, because Mr. Elton's wedding date has finally been set and his bride will soon be coming to town. As Emma reflects on one departure and prepares for a new arrival, let her story in this week's Friday Favorites help you end your week and drift into a night of restful and restorative sleep.

Marianne is still unwell, and her illness is worse than everyone first thought. When the apothecary mentions an infection, the Palmers quickly set off to protect themselves. Mrs. Jennings is convinced of the worst, while Elinor does not allow herself to imagine such an outcome. But when Marianne becomes feverish and delirious, they send Colonel Brandon to fetch her mother. Eventually, her recovery takes a turn for the better, and Elinor is relieved. And the upturn is just in time for the arrival of a carriage outside. But to Elinor's great surprise, her mother hasn't arrived; the visitor is none other than Willoughby. It's an emotional roller coaster, and as Elinor navigates the ups and downs, let her story bring you comfort as you drift into a night of restorative and healing sleep.

Mon, 27 Jul 2026 - 31min - 236 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Emma and Frank Call on the Bateses
After their outing in Highbury, Emma and Harriet join Frank and Mrs. Weston at the Bateses' to hear Jane Fairfax's new pianoforte. Frank openly speculates on the nature of the gift, which they presume is from the Dixons, and his manner seems too open for Emma, until she notices Jane's attempts at hiding a smile. Could Jane have hidden feelings? Emma isn't sure, but the reappearance of Miss Bates and a chance encounter with Mr. Knightley distract them all. As our protagonists continue their afternoon in Highbury, let their story in this week's Friday Favorites help you settle in for a night of soft and restorative sleep.

Despite the awkwardness of the situation, his gratitude toward Colonel Brandon, and toward Elinor, is sincere, and they part on good terms. All that's left is to clear up Mrs. Jennings's conjectures and misunderstandings of the whole situation, which brings some levity to the otherwise heavy afternoon. Frank Churchill is back in Highbury, and it's just in time for the dinner party at the Coles'. The party is abuzz with the news that Jane Fairfax received a surprise gift: a pianoforte, delivered to the Bates's home. Everyone is convinced that it's a gift from the Campbells, but Emma isn't so sure. She thinks the gift could be a sign of affection from Mr. Dixon, and Frank Churchill seems to agree with her. But that's not the only thing on Emma's mind. Her flirty banter with Frank is interrupted by Mrs. Weston's suggestion that none other than Mr. Knightley might be in love with Jane Fairfax -- could it be so? It's an eventful evening, and perfect for an extra-long Friday Favorites, as our return to Highbury society takes you away from your day and into a night of warm and gentle sleep.

Mon, 06 Jul 2026 - 31min - 230 - Friday Favorites: Emma - An Intriguing Invitation
After just a few days in Highbury, Frank Churchill jets off to London for a day, merely to have his hair cut. To Emma, that conveys a bit of foppery, but all young people have their little whims, after all. At least Frank's absence gives her time to consult with the Westons about whether to accept an invitation to dinner at the Coles. The Coles made their fortune through trade, so it would be most appropriate for Emma to refuse their invitation ... but it is so thoughtfully given, and all her dearest friends will be there. The Westons advise her to attend, and it's just the advice Emma is hoping to hear. This week's Friday Favorites brings you deeper into the complex social dynamics of Highbury, and it's just the thing to help you end your week with a night of restful sleep.

For Elinor, it's a chance to become acquainted with the one remaining member of the Ferrars family whom she hasn't already met, Edward and Fanny's brother, Robert Ferrars. Unfortunately, he's everything Elinor expected him to be. Meanwhile, Mr. John Dashwood is struck with the idea that he should invite his sisters to stay with him -- an idea that Fanny promptly shuts down by inviting the Steele sisters to visit instead. The Ferrars siblings may continue to disappoint the Dashwoods, but their story will be anything but a disappointment, as it calms you into a night of tranquil and restful sleep.

Mon, 15 Jun 2026 - 38min - 224 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Mr. Elton Returns
The newly-engaged Mr. Elton has returned to Highbury, and as a young person in an interesting situation, he is very kindly spoken of. That's unfortunate for Harriet, who is unable to be talked out of love as easily as she was talked into it. Though Emma is sure that Miss Augusta Hawkins won't hold a candle to her dear Miss Smith, that won't stop the immediate problem of Harriet continuing to pine for her lost love. A visit to the Martins might help, and though Emma feels a little guilty for making it a formal visit, she does have to look out for her friend's reputation. As Highbury prepares for the arrival of a new bride in this week's Friday Favorites, let their story help you prepare for the arrival of another night of gentle slumber.

After the unpleasant dinner with Mrs. Ferrars, Elinor finds herself almost grateful that she's not the one engaged to Edward. But Lucy Steele had a thoroughly different experience, and she's called on her "dear friend Elinor" to gloat about how much Mrs. Ferrars and Fanny liked her. While she's there, the two women receive another visitor: none other than Edward Ferrars himself. It's supremely awkward, made even more so when Marianne joins them and addresses Edward with sisterly warmth. Tonight, Edward, Lucy, and Elinor would all rather be anywhere else but here -- but their discomfort will be the source of your comfort, as tonight's story soothes you into a night of warm and relaxing sleep.

Mr. Knightley is at Hartfield, and he has exciting news, but before he can reveal it, Miss Bates arrives and spills the beans: Mr. Elton is engaged. After four weeks in Bath, he has met a Miss Hawkins, and they are going to be married. Miss Bates is delighted at the prospect of a new neighbor in Highbury, while Emma is concerned about Harriet (and annoyed at Jane Fairfax's muted reaction to the news). But Harriet's attention is focused elsewhere, on a chance encounter with Mr. Martin, at least until Emma redirects her in a more appropriate direction. When Fanny Dashwood finally meets Lady Middleton, it's a match made in heaven, and Fanny even likes Mrs. Jennings -- she likes them all so much that she invites them all to dine with her at their London home. The Miss Steeles are staying with the Middletons, so they'll be joining for dinner too, as will Fanny's formidable mother, Mrs. Ferrars. Fanny and Mrs. Ferrars warm to Lucy Steele's unique charms, while remaining cold towards Elinor, a fact that almost amuses her. But it doesn't amuse Marianne, who only sees their unbearable rudeness and has no choice but to stick up for her sister. All the while, John Dashwood is talking up Elinor to Colonel Brandon, hoping to secure a match between the two. It's a dinner full of misguided assumptions, and while our characters may be wrongheaded, their story is just right to help you into a night of restful and restorative sleep.

Mon, 01 Jun 2026 - 35min - 220 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Meet Jane Fairfax
The much-discussed Jane Fairfax has arrived in Highbury, and Emma is determined to have a good opinion of her. Sure, everyone always assumes Jane and Emma are close because of their similar ages, and yes, Jane is superior at playing the piano, but she is very elegant, and Emma highly values elegance. Moreover, Jane's situation as an orphan destined to a life of governessing is truly pitiable. Emma's goodwill lasts for exactly one meeting before Jane's reserve sours her again -- Jane won't even reveal details about her meeting with the elusive Frank Churchill, which is unforgivable. This week's Friday Favorites brings another key character into the world of Highbury, and as it does, let it help you move from the waking world into the sleeping one as you drift into warm and gentle slumber.

Marianne finally agrees to go out of the house with Elinor. On their shopping trip, they are surprised to run into none other than their older brother, John Dashwood. He is genuinely happy to see his sisters, and calls on them at Mrs. Jennings's house the next day (without his wife Fanny, of course). After meeting all of their new acquaintances, John Dashwood is pleased to see that they all appear to be much richer and more elegant than he was expecting. He even thinks that Colonel Brandon has eyes for Elinor, and that Mrs. Jennings may be fond enough of Elinor and Marianne to leave them money in her will. After all, John's financial demands are so great that he needs to be sure that someone will take care of his sisters. With everyone in town, it's a family reunion of sorts for the Dashwoods, and the perfect occasion to help you relax and fall into a night of peaceful sleep.

The conversation with Miss Bates is winding and tedious -- a bore for Emma, but perfect for falling asleep. Mon, 18 May 2026 - 35min - 216 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Emma and Mr. Knightley Spar on Frank Churchill
Frank Churchill is not coming to Highbury. After all of Mr. Weston's excitement about his son's visit, Frank ended up postponing his plans. While Emma is too distracted to be too disappointed, when Mr. Knightley expresses critical opinion, she still feels compelled to defend Mr. Churchill. The resulting debate between the two is illustrative of both of their characters, and it's a perfect vignette of Austen's comfortable, familiar banter. This week's Friday Favorites will help you relax as you end your day and fall into a night of warm and gentle sleep.

As Marianne continues to recover from the sudden end of her relationship with Willoughby, Elinor receives a visit from Colonel Brandon, who feels compelled to share a history that he hopes will help Marianne get over her pain. After the tragic downfall and death of Colonel Brandon's first love, he took on her daughter as his ward. Last fall, he learned that this young girl had been seduced and deserted, and the culprit was none other than Willoughby. While the story isn't exactly comforting, Colonel Brandon hopes it will help Marianne understand Willougby's true character. Elinor is thoroughly shocked, but also grateful to Colonel Brandon for sharing this troubling history. It's a long and sordid tale, so let yourself get lost in the story as it carries you off into a night of deep and restful slumber.

Mon, 11 May 2026 - 45min - 214 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Mr. Elton's Proposal: The Aftermath
Mr. Elton's unexpected proposal has Emma reeling, and she needs to take time to reflect. Emma knows that his supposed feelings are more for Miss Woodhouse's status, rather than true love for her; and she realizes that it was an error for her to take such an active role in pushing Harriet towards him. Luckily, the weather prevents her from going to church and seeing Mr. Elton at Christmas, and he soon leaves Highbury for Bath. All that is left now is for Emma to share the news with Harriet, and comfort her as best she can. This week's Friday Favorites is one of quiet reflection, so let it help you quiet your mind and fall into a night of soft and restorative sleep.

Marianne is still distraught over Willoughby's betrayal, especially after learning that he is to marry a Miss Grey, who has fifty thousand pounds. Mrs. Jennings, concerned for her young friend, is showing kindness the only way she knows how -- with good food, good wine, and cards -- but it's not enough to soothe Marianne's broken heart. To Mrs. Jennings, this is the perfect opportunity for Colonel Brandon to make his move, but his first response to hearing the news is thoughtfulness, not happiness. Time may heal all wounds, but right now, they are far too fresh. As everyone begins to adjust to this new reality, let their story help you adjust from day to night as you fall into gentle and relaxing sleep.

Mon, 04 May 2026 - 38min - 212 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Mr. Elton Proposes
The Christmas party at Randalls is interrupted by the news that it has begun to snow, putting the guests in a flutter about how to get home. In the commotion, Emma and Mr. Elton end up in a carriage alone together, allowing Mr. Elton the perfect opportunity to declare his feelings, not for Harriet, but for Emma! She is aghast; and once Mr. Elton discovers that Emma thought he was in love with Miss Smith, he is shocked too, making the rest of their ride home rather awkward. While the interesting silence unfortunately doesn't have the meaning Mr. Elton hoped, the familiar story in this week's Friday Favorites will help silence your worries and help you into a night of warm and peaceful sleep.

Christmas at Randalls has commenced! The Woodhouses, Knightleys, and Mr. Elton have all joined the Westons for a night of holiday cheer, despite the impending snow. Elinor and Marianne accompany Lady Middleton to a party, where they are finally reunited with the elusive Willoughby. But what should be a happy moment of reunion is instead a moment of shock and confusion. Willoughby barely acknowledges Marianne, and certainly does not seem to return her affection. Neither Elinor nor Marianne understand what has caused so material a change, and Marianne is so shocked that she can barely keep her wits about her. They make their way home to contemplate what might have happened, and as they do, let the latest chapter in their story help you contemplate your evening as you settle in for another night of restful and restorative slumber.

Mr. Knightley has joined the family at Hartfield for dinner, to meet his newly-arrived brother and sister-in-law and their children. It's the perfect opportunity for him and Emma to make up after their disagreement about Harriet and Mr. Martin, which is good news, because it will take both of them to ensure that Mr. Woodhouse and Mr. John Knightley don't rub each other the wrong way. Luckily for them, the dinner merely brings talk of farming on one side, and the pros and cons of sea-bathing on the other, with minimal disagreement. The cozy, familiar scene is a perfect Friday Favorite to comfort you after a long and stressful week, so let it help you as you drift away into warm and peaceful sleep.

Elinor and Marianne have arrived in London with Mrs. Jennings, and it soon becomes clear that Marianne's focus will be single-minded while she is in town. She's waiting for a letter, a note, or even a visit from Willoughby, and nothing will shake her, whether it is the return of Colonel Brandon, or an excursion with Mrs. Palmer. Elinor is concerned, but there's really very little they can do but wait to hear from him. Nonetheless, the new setting will do them good - or so they hope. As the next stage of the Dashwoods' story begins, let it help you begin your night with relaxation as you fall into deep and restful slumber.

Mon, 02 Mar 2026 - 38min - 194 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Mr. Knightley and Emma Disagree
Mr. Knightley has called at Hartfield, and he has news that he's sure will excite Emma. Her little friend Harriet is about to be proposed to by Mr. Robert Martin. But Emma has one better, for she informs him that Harriet has already refused Mr. Martin's proposal. What follows is a vigorous disagreement between the two over the merits of Harriet marrying Mr. Martin. Though the sparring feels playful to Emma at first, she's left uneasy by Mr. Knightley's disapproval of her interference. But she distracts herself with thoughts of Mr. Elton and her confidence that he is well on his way to falling in love with Harriet instead. Our latest Friday Favorites brings us two protagonists who are evenly matched in wit, though perhaps not in maturity. As Emma and Mr. Knightley have it out, let them take you into another night of restful sleep.

Fri, 27 Feb 2026 - 48min - 193 - Sense and Sensibility, Chapter 20
The Palmers are still at Barton Park, and their presence remains a distraction for Elinor and Marianne. Despite Mrs. Palmer's eccentricities, Elinor finds herself enjoying her conversation with her. Though Mrs. Palmer seems a little too certain of Marianne and Willoughby's engagement, Elinor is at least pleased with her warm and favorable impression of Willoughby, since the Palmers live in the same county as Combe Magna. It's a small comfort in a winding conversation that takes the Dashwoods on a journey to places they never expected - so settle in under the covers and join them on their adventure, as the Palmers calm your mind and help you into a night of soft and gentle sleep.

Mon, 23 Feb 2026 - 35min - 192 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Mr. Martin Proposes
Harriet has arrived at Hartfield with a dilemma: the charming farmer Mr. Robert Martin has sent her a letter with an offer of marriage. Emma has to give him credit; the letter is much better-written than she was expecting. Nonetheless, she can't imagine her dear little friend Harriet married to a farmer. Of course, Emma knows she mustn't influence Harriet's decision. It should be all her own. But it can't hurt for Emma to give some gentle advice - after all, what are friends for? If anything, it would be doing her friend a disservice not to share her wisdom. This week's Friday Favorites is peak Emma Woodhouse, so let the latest chapter in her familiar story accompany you into a night of peaceful and restorative sleep.

Fri, 20 Feb 2026 - 34min - 191 - Sense and Sensibility, Chapter 19
Edward's week at Barton Cottage comes to a close, though he doesn't seem too enthusiastic about leaving. His departure leaves Elinor plenty of time to contemplate his feelings, and her own. But before she can get too carried away, the Dashwoods are interrupted by the arrival of new guests: the Palmers. Mrs. Palmer is Mrs. Jennings's other daughter, and shares Mrs. Jennings's boisterous disposition, while her husband is the complete opposite. The Dashwoods have never met anyone quite like the Palmers, and their presence is certainly a distraction from lost love, for both Elinor and Marianne. As the Palmers burst onto the scene, let them be a distraction for you as well, and help you forget your day as you fall into a night of warm and restful sleep.

Mon, 16 Feb 2026 - 38min - 190 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Emma Draws Harriet's Portrait
Both Harriet and Mr. Elton have been spending more time at Hartfield, and Emma has the perfect idea to bring them both together: she will draw Harriet's portrait for Mr. Elton. Emma has a great fondness for taking likenesses, and is very experienced, though none of her previous portraits were ever finished. That doesn't seem to bother Mr. Elton, who is highly complimentary of all of Emma's sketches, and especially of the new portrait of Harriet. His gallantry is a sure sign that he's in love; Emma is certain of it. But we know better, and as Emma takes the next step in her familiar story, let this week's Friday Favorites paint a picture that takes you into another night of soft and relaxing sleep.

Edward's visit to Barton continues, and his old comfort with the Dashwoods is slowly returning. As he discusses the rolling landscapes of Devonshire with Marianne and Elinor, Marianne spots a new accessory on Edward's finger: a ring containing a lock of hair. It's not the right color to be his sister's hair, so the sisters are sure it must be Elinor's. But when could he have gotten it? There's no time to find out, as Sir John and Mrs. Jennings soon arrive to get to know the new gentleman visitor. As they do, let their story help relax you and take you into a night of restorative slumber.

Edward Ferrars is at Barton Cottage, and all it takes is some time in the presence of the warmth of the Dashwoods to (mostly) restore him to his former friendly self. After all, for the Dashwoods, this is the visit of a future intimate family member. Yet, as much as Edward begins to open up, there is still something different about him that Elinor just can't put her finger on. As Edward is welcomed into Barton, let his banter with the Dashwoods help welcome you into another night of restful and relaxing sleep.

Mon, 02 Feb 2026 - 28min - 186 - Friday Favorites: Emma - Meet Harriet Smith
With Mrs. Weston settling into her new home, Emma and her father are welcoming their other Highbury friends into their home for company: people like former vicar's widow Mrs. Bates and her chatty daughter Miss Bates, and proprietor of a local school Mrs. Goddard. When Mrs. Goddard asks if she can bring one of her students, Harriet Smith, Emma is delighted. Harriet is pretty, friendly, and deferential. She's exactly the type of person who could benefit from Emma's wisdom. As this week's Friday Favorites fills Emma's mind with schemes, let it help you pass the night away as you relax into a night of soft and gentle slumber.

Marianne's sorrow continues, nourished by her own sensibility, and her sense of what her feelings require of her. When Elinor finally convinces Marianne to join her sisters for a walk, they are met by a pleasant surprise: Edward Ferrars has arrived in Devonshire to visit the Dashwoods. But his manner is different than when they last saw him. He seems colder and more reserved, to the extent that even Elinor finds his behavior lacking. Nonetheless, his presence is a happy distraction, both for the Dashwoods and for you, as this week's story takes you away from your day and into a night of warm and restful sleep.

Highbury is a cozy place, and as we settle in with Emma, it's time to get to know some of the inhabitants of her little town. Mr. Weston, her governess's new husband, is a warm and friendly neighbor. He lost his first wife many years ago, and his son, one Frank Churchill, was adopted by his late wife's brother and sister-in-law. Though Mr. Frank Churchill has never visited Highbury, the town still considers him one of their own, and they are very impressed with the handsome letter he sent to congratulate the new Mrs. Weston. This week's Friday Favorites brings us closer to the cast of characters who will accompany on our latest comforting bedtime journey, and as it does, let yourself relax and fall into a night of peaceful sleep.

The Dashwoods' peaceful life at Barton Cottage has been upended - Willoughby has to make a sudden departure, and nobody knows why. Marianne, meanwhile, sees it as her duty to consign herself to tears and pining, while she waits for Willoughby to return. Though the Dashwoods may be in disarray, their story will bring you calm and peace, as you settle in for another night of gentle and restorative sleep.

It's a new year and it's time for a new favorite novel to help you get to sleep. But that all begins to change when her dear governess Miss Taylor gets married and leaves Hartfield, the Woodhouse's home. Though the new Mrs. Weston's home is only half a mile away, her departure is a big change for Emma, and prompts some unexpected feelings of grief. Luckily for her, her dear family friend and brother-in-law Mr. Knightley has stopped by to call on Emma and her father, which cheers her up, especially since she can take credit for matchmaking Miss Taylor and Mr. Weston. It's time to settle in with our next set of favorite characters, as this week's Friday Favorites brings us into the world of Highbury and takes you into the world of deep and restful slumber.

While Mrs. Jennings wonders and speculates about what could have pulled Colonel Brandon away to town, Elinor wonders about something more pressing: the true state of Marianne and Willoughby's relationship. While they're certainly acting like they're engaged, they haven't said a word to anyone about it. But there's no misinterpreting Willoughby's affectionate behavior - everything about Barton Cottage, from the house to its inhabitants, seems to please him. All Elinor can do is continue to wonder, and as she does, let her thoughts fill your mind and take you away into a night of warm and peaceful sleep.

A large party has come together for an excursion to Whitwell, the estate of a friend of Colonel Brandon's, when a sudden letter from London changes the group's plans entirely. Colonel Brandon has been called away on urgent business, and he must leave immediately, unable to spare even an hour before he departs. His sudden exit means that the day's excursion is canceled in favor of a ride around the country. Marianne and Willoughby ride off together, and Mrs. Jennings teases them about their visit to Allenham - a visit which Elinor finds highly inappropriate. But nothing can dampen Marianne's delight; for her, the day was a success regardless of the earlier inconvenience. Let her joyful journey help you enjoy your own journey as you drift into a night of soft and restful sleep.

Marianne and Willoughby's relationship is continuing to deepen at a pace that is somewhat alarming to Elinor. After convincing Marianne that Willoughby's gift of a horse is impractical (and beyond their means), Elinor learns from Margaret that Marianne has also given Willoughby a lock of her hair. With all of this closeness, Elinor is sure that the two must be engaged. But she's soon distracted by her sister Margaret's precociousness in another venue, when she reveals to Sir John and Mrs. Jennings that Elinor was previously attached to a mysterious Mr. F. The attention is quite distressing to Elinor, but at least they have an upcoming group outing to look forward to. The Dashwood girls are entangled in a web of relationships, and as they navigate their way through, let their story help steer you into a night of gentle and restorative slumber.

Now that Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are engaged, only one hurdle remains: telling her family. Jane is the first to learn the news, and she is incredulous - a wretched start, indeed. But eventually Jane comes around, and it's up to Darcy and Elizabeth to tell Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. Neither of them can believe it, either, but with Lizzy's reassurances, they each come to accept it in their own way. After months of back and forth, our story is finally approaching its conclusion, and as it does, let this week's Friday Favorites help you conclude your own day and week with a comforting story that takes you into a night of rest and relaxation.

After Willoughby rescues Marianne from her sprained ankle on the moor, the two quickly become inseparable. They have so much in common: music, dance, books, poetry, not to mention his wonderfully good looks. Marianne is sure that Willoughby is everything she has ever wanted in a man, and even Mrs. Dashwood is enchanted by him. Elinor, though, is more cautious. In fact, she is convinced that Colonel Brandon may be developing an attachment to her sister, even though Marianne is decidedly uninterested. Willoughby is a charmer, and as he delights the Dashwoods, let his smooth words help lull you into a night of gentle and relaxing sleep.

Mon, 15 Dec 2025 - 32min - 172 - Friday Favorites: Pride and Prejudice - A Letter from Mr. Collins
Elizabeth is still reeling from Lady Catherine's visit, when her father summons her for a most diverting distraction. He's received a letter from Mr. Collins asserting that Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are engaged, and warning them to be careful of the disapproval of the gentleman's most esteemed and noble aunt. It's a wonderful joke, because Mr. Bennet is sure that Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are the two people in the world least likely to be engaged. Elizabeth humors him, but it adds to her distress - could she be hoping for too much? Our latest Friday Favorites is not a diversion to Lizzy, but it will divert you from the stress of your day and into a night of soft and restorative slumber.

Fri, 05 Dec 2025 - 39min - 169 - Sense and Sensibility, Chapters 7-8
Freshly arrived in Devonshire, the Dashwoods are off to dine at Barton Park and meet the rest of their new neighborhood acquaintances. There's Lady Middleton's teasing and slightly vulgar mother-in-law, Mrs. Jennings, and Sir John's quiet friend, Colonel Brandon. Mrs. Jennings, who is fond of pairing people up, is soon convinced that Colonel Brandon is in love with Marianne, but she's having none of it. Colonel Brandon is 35, and Marianne is convinced that at his stage of life, all that's left is infirmity, since he's too old for romance. With their social circle growing, the Dashwoods are settling into their new home, and as they do, let them help you settle into your bed for a night of soft and peaceful sleep.

Fri, 28 Nov 2025 - 35min - 167 - Sense and Sensibility, Chapters 5-6
It's been decided: the Dashwoods are relocating to Devonshire. They have decided to take up their cousin Sir John Middleton's offer to take up residence in Barton Cottage, and soon set off from Norland to make their way to their new home. The cottage is smaller than they are used to, but Mrs. Dashwood is full of ideas to make it more homey (if she can save the money for it). They also make the acquaintance of their landlord Sir John, who is boisterous, and his wife Lady Middleton, who is elegant. It's a big transition for the Dashwoods, but they are making the best of it. As they do, let their story help you as you embark on your own transition from a busy day into a night of gentle and relaxing sleep.

Fri, 21 Nov 2025 - 28min - 165 - Sense and Sensibility, Chapter 4
Elinor and Edward's relationship is growing closer, but they are not actually engaged, much to Marianne's surprise. In fact, Elinor herself isn't sure of the degree of Edward's attachment to her. But the attachment is enough to catch the eye of Fanny Dashwood, who makes it clear in no uncertain terms that her family has high hopes for her brother's marriage - hopes that don't include Elinor Dashwood. Luckily for them, a letter has just arrived from one of Mrs. Dashwood's relations, inviting them to take up residence at his cottage in Devonshire. It's the perfect time for the family to make a move, and as they do, let their story move you along into a night of soft and relaxing sleep.

Lydia and Wickham are off to Newcastle, which is a disappointment to Mrs. Bennet, but she's soon comforted by the news of the arrival of a familiar neighbor - Mr. Bingley is back in town. What's more, he's brought Mr. Darcy with him. The gentlemen call at Longbourn, and both Jane and Elizabeth's emotions are in a flutter. It's all too much for the two eldest Bennet girls, as they alternate between hopes of rekindling old affections, attempting to stay calm, and mitigating the intensity of their mother's reaction to both gentlemen. As the girls work out how they feel in this week's Friday Favorites, let their story comfort you into a peaceful night of restful sleep.

The Dashwoods remain at Norland while they search for a place that will fit their new financial situation. He has been staying with the family at Norland, and by all accounts to be forming an attachment with Elinor - she esteems him, which is high praise. Marianne finds Edward lacking in his understanding of art and literature, but their mother is pleased that her eldest daughter has found love. As Elinor and Edward's attachment grows, let it help you relax as you drift into another night of restorative slumber.
