In Mark chapter 4, Jesus begins with the Parable of the Sower. We learn of four types of soils for planting. These soils also represents types of heart conditions for receiving the word of God. Jesus is asking us which heart best describes us. Are you a hard heart, a shallow heart, and crowded heart, or a good heart?

In Mark chapter three, we see three groups of people respond to Jesus in different ways. One group thinks Jesus is a liar. Another group thinks Jesus is a lunatic, while another group considers Him to be Lord. Mark is asking us this question...Is Jesus considered to be a liar, a lunatic, or a Lord?

We look at the teachings of Jesus about binding and loosing. Jesus has given the Church authority to bind things on earth, which will be bound in heaven and to loose things on earth, which will be loosed in heaven. We have authority to walk in victory through the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus and our sins were bound on earth while on the cross. Jesus was also loosed from the grave to conquer death at the resurrection. His sacrifice and resurrection was bound and loosed on earth and also in heaven.

We often think that God rested on the 7th day because He was tired from all His work. it's hard to believe God was tired. He actually rested to take in and observe all His wonderful creation. Our Sabbath should begin with praising God for all He has accomplished over our previous week. We should approach observing our Sabbath not as an obligation (which it is a commandment), but rather a gift we receive from the Lord. Man was not created for the Sabbath, but the Sabbath for man.

Through the questioning from the Pharisees about fasting, Jesus answers with abstract explanations of the difference between following religion and following Him. Jesus brings celebration, whereas religion brings condemnation. Jesus offers new life, whereas religion offers to just patch up our lives. Jesus brings a bigger life, whereas religion brings a brittle life.

In this message from Mark chapter two, we look at the calling of Matthew, who was known as the biggest sinner in the city due to his job of collecting overcharged taxes from the Jewish people. Jesus shows that He can call anyone, no matter the weight of their sin, the scope of their reputation, or the shame that haunts them. Many people like Matthew want to get out of their sinful situation, but just don't know how. Jesus points the way and calls us to "follow me".

For the first time in the Gospel of Mark we see the authority of Jesus over sin. In this encounter with the paralyzed man, Jesus sees things the crowd and even the ready may not see. He saw their faith. He saw the man's deepest need. And Jesus saw the cross.

In this message of our Gospel of Mark series, we visit the encounter with Jesus and a man with leprosy. As with our own spiritual leprosy, we need to first come to Jesus just as we are. Jesus will draw near and "touch" us to show we're not alone. And finally, we will experience Jesus take our place in the hurt, the sick, and the shame.

The Gospel ministry of Jesus had much purpose. We learn from Mark chapter one His Gospel was powerful as many people were healed and demons cast out. His Gospel was also personal as Jesus displays His personal time with God in prayer. And His Gospel was public. Everyone is looking for Jesus. We need to tell others and don't keep the good news to ourselves.

in Mark 1:21-28, Jesus shows us His authority when confronted with a man possessed by a demon. We see many demons in the Gospels make themselves known because of Jesus. For the most part, demons today do not want to make themselves known. They want to be discreet. The work of Satan and his demons are just as much active today. It just looks a little different. We can even find demonic influence in the church and the leaders. But Jesus has given us His same authority through the power of the Holy Spirit living in those of us who follow Jesus.

As we continue in chapter one of the Gospel of Mark, we come across the calling of the disciples to follow Jesus. We see in this passage three elements to the calling of Jesus. It's an urgent call, a personal call, and a transformational call. As believers, we are called to be a part of the Kingdom of God. This kingdom doesn't stop at our conversion to Christ. Jesus is our Savior when we repent and believe. But Jesus is also our Shepherd when we choose to follow Him. Many Christians just have a Savior. But He longs to also be your Shepherd. Will you choose to follow Him today?

In this second week of our series through the Gospel of Mark, we visit the scene where Jesus was baptized and was then driven out to the wilderness by the Holy Spirit. We all will face seasons of wilderness. We arrive their in one of three ways: decision, disruption, and direction. Our poor decisions can land us in the wilderness. Disruptions in life that are of no fault to ourselves can land us in the wilderness. And finally, God can direct us into the wilderness in order to grow in your faith.

The common approach to all of these is to do them in secret.
