Mega64 Movie Club

Is it a movie or is it a documentary? A lot of people back then didn't even know the answer themselves! The gang watched the movie and has a lot of thoughts on this 1966 movie about a very real war made in a very real way!

Last week, we reviewed what many consider to be the greatest film of all time. So this week, Rocco felt like we needed to go into the opposite direction. We watched Mac & Me starring the ugliest creature ever devised for film. You won't believe what we thought- no, no you will actually.

After years of being told it's the greatest movie ever, the boyz have finally sat down to make time to watch Citizen Kane. You may be surprised by their discussion on it...!

Cannibalism. Kids smoking cigarettes. Choreographed gross sex stuff. Fisheye lens. Yup, Derrick picked another French film for Mega64 Movie Club. So how much did we enjoy our visit to the Delicatessen?

THIS IS 50!! Rocco saw some of 50 Cent's movie in a hotel once, and was kind of surprised by what it was like. He brings the movie to the crew and we see if there's more artistic value to Mr. Cent's movie than meets the eye!

A gripping look into a musician's struggle with sudden hearing loss, Sound of Metal is this week's movie- Rocco, Derrick and Shawn all had plenty to say about it!

Today on Movie Club, we're going surfing! We'd never really watched Point Break as adults, so we wanted to see if it's still worthy of being called a "classic" or whatever. I mean, it has Keanu, how can it fail?? Is it at least better than the remake? Wait... there was a remake? We'll find out in this extra long episode of Mega64 Movie Club!

We're back in the world of anime to check out a beloved classic for the whole family!! Perfect Blue is one of Satoshi Kon's most acclaimed movies from the 90s about a pop star quitting her career and losing herself in the process. What did the bunch of us think about it?

We put the rumors to rest: this is definitely a movie that exists. With that out of the way, let's do a full deep dive on this duck-pun-filled CLASSIC!

Join us in revisiting this 1996 blockbuster that BLEW OUR MINDS as young, alien-fearing children... but did it deserve its accolades? Does this 4th of July institution hold up 25 years later?

Is this Leon? Or The Professional? Is this a French film? The director did WHAT? There's a lot of confusion in this episode, but we decided to snipe right through the questions and finally see the movie we've always heard lots about: Leon the Professional.

In this week's Mega64 Movie Club, we revisit a classic story... but not the original one. There was a remake of King Kong in 1976, and none of us have seen it at LEAST since we were little kids. Is this a worthy take on the classic, or was it meant to be left behind in our gorilla dreams? Watch this longer special episode and find out!

This week on Movie Club we watch Police Story. A Hong Kong Action-Crime film from 1985 that was written, directed, and starring Jackie Chan! How much action and dangerous stunts can we handle? Tune in to find out!

Verily, we very viciously vindicate voraciousl- okay, you know what, let's just end this gimmick here. We watched V FOR VENDETTA from 2005. Hadn't thought about this one in a while- did it hold up? Or is it as corny as all that other stuff from the early 2000's?

A three hour movie telling the definitive tale of America's journey to space. So... how has Shawn not watched this already? Seriously. Whatever his reasoning, check out our discussion on this 1983 classic!

YEEHAW!! It's the rootinest, tootinest western this side of the Mississippi! [EDIT: Sorry, was just told this description wasn't professional enough for such an acclaimed western. I'm required to tell you that Paul Newman and Robert Redford both have award-winning performances in this timeless classic. Thank you]. But whaddya reckon WE thought of it??

On tour, we watched a TON of movies- and just by chance, out of a bargain bin we picked one of Garrett's all time favorite movies! Join him as he sits down with Rocco and Shawn (who had never seen the movie before at all) to gather all their thoughts about this movie we totally didn't know had vampires in it.

What is this movie? The next film by acclaimed director Damien Chazelle? A gigantic box office bomb? An undiscovered epic? A three hour slog? Does ANYONE know? We don't know anyone that saw Babylon, so we're gonna dive in ourselves in a VERY divided episode! Unlike the movies within the movie, we're not staying silent on this one.

We simply couldn't conclude a year of Mega64 Movie Club episodes without paying one last visit to the Sand-man! We saw Adam Sandler's comedic side once again in our Happy Gilmore episode, so let's finally get to see him bring the drama in Uncut Gems. Shawn has very explicitly said he didn't want to see this because it looked "stressful," so let's make him endure it and see what we all thought at the end. Have a happy new year, everyone!!

Having just visited Alcatraz ourselves, we HAD to see how one would escape it. The easiest way was to watch ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ with Clint Eastwood, based on the true story of a real escape! Was it a trip seeing this 1979 prison flick shot at the very historical location we just explored? Or should this movie go back to the slammer?

Here's Rocco, Shawn, and Garrett digging into Killers of The Flower Moon, which they all saw together on tour. Did we erupt with moans of pleasure OR pain during this lengthy journey to a taboo point in history?

Through a sequence of events, some random dude just becomes president. Does this movie premise produce White House level gold or Waffle House level crap? Rocco and Shawn finally return from tour with a long overdue Movie Club episode where they both watch it- both from the perspective of a newcomer AND someone affected by it at an early age. What will they think now?

We go back to the source of many cinematic scares- the old Universal monster movies! And we check out the Bride of Frankenstein... right? She's in this movie, isn't she? Eventually?

Isn't it fun to be a vampire? We find out today in our Lost Boys episode of Movie Club- once again joined by two people who've never seen it (Rocco and Shawn) and a trained master on the subject (Garrett). Is this a tour of gore and horror, or just a funny 80s movie?

We were finally compelled by the power of cinema to sit down and see THE EXORCIST from 1973. For two of us, it's our first time seeing it- luckily we've got long time exorcism film expert Garrett to join us for this episode! Grab some pea soup and sit a spell for this special lengthy discussion on the Exorcist legacy.

After getting to briefly work with Matt Johnson for a special 64X segment, we couldn't help but be stoked to check out his latest feature film, Blackberry! We missed it in its limited theatrical release, but now that it's on VOD we kicked back to finally see what we think of this handheld device biopic.

Like the fastest man himself, The Flash was in and out of theaters in an instant. But now it's streaming... should we watch it and see if it was as bad as everyone said? You may be surprised at our hot take that defies the laws of time and space!

Rocco and Shawn sat down and watched the 1991 "Classic?" movie Doc Hollywood. Is this Michael J Fox's best movie? Probably not but lets watch together and find out.

The day has finally arrived! Rocco got Shawn to watch the classic Korean film OLDBOY and we get to hear what he thought of it! This oughtta be FUN! Believe it or not, both these guys hadn't ever seen it until this last month. Let's see what they both got out of it after missing out for 20 years!

We finally watched Wes Anderson's new movie and have no clue what to say about it.

The big storm (or lack thereof) last week knocked our schedule off its axis a bit, but we're back in the studio to double up on new Movie Club episodes! This time we're watching Kevin Smith's first big studio movie, Mallrats! It was a huge bomb when it came out, but us here at Mega64 loved it back in the day. We haven't watched it in a long time though- is it still funny or is it as dead as our local mall?

WTF is Logan Lucky? Shawn and Rocco have no idea- a heist movie directed by Steven Soderbergh... that ISN'T Oceans 11? However, its writer is someone we have a connection to from our pre-teen years... Let's check out this random 2017 flick with a surprisingly awesome cast! Had YOU seen it before?

Get your ass to this episode of Movie Club! LOL get it??? Shawn just saw Total Recall (the 1990 movie with Arnold in it) recently, and Rocco just saw it for the second time at Quentin Tarantino's movie theater. What do they both have to say about this practical effects blowout of a film? And did Rocco also watch the Total Recall remake from 2012 JUST for this episode?? (Spoiler: yes)

Shawn is new to Ghostbusters, having only seen the first movie recently... but he hasn't seen the second one! Rocco was a huge Ghostbusters fan, and saw the second one a million times growing up... but hasn't seen it in a while. Where did they both arrive on this polarizing sequel to a paranormal classic?

Here's a special episode of Movie Club recorded in the best possible forum for film discussion: a hotel room in New York! Join us on the road as we finally sit down and watch all of Blazing Saddles in one sitting, once and for all, and report back on if it's actually aged well or not...

Our schedule may be a little nutty over the coming days as we get sandwiched between Anime Expo, our live tour, AND San Diego Comic Con... but we're gonna get creative and bring all this extra video goodness to you from wherever the road takes us! From our AX booth, we present to you our conversation on the M Night Shayamalan film SIGNS... some people love it, but a lot of people felt burned by it back in its first release. Was the hate warranted, or did we have fun with it over 20 years later? (Also it was a long AX weekend so we were losing our minds- please bear with us as we try to make ANY sense. Also we got new microphones that might sound a little weird, like panning audio and stuff... we'll get it fixed for next time!)

This week for the first time is our good friend Garrett! He brought in one of his all time favorite movies, TRAINSPOTTING. Is this totally a Garrett flick, or did we all find something to enjoy in this Scottish drug overdose opera?

THE KEVIN COSTNER SAGA CONTINUES... Sean Connery? Prohibition? The Scarface director? Bangin' music score? What's NOT to love in THE UNTOUCHABLES? We both watched this movie for the first time and went all-in on our thoughts on this 80's gangster flick.

The polar ice caps are melting! Oceans rising! The world destroyed! YES! All great news, because that means Rocco and Shawn are talking about the expensive disaster called WATERWORLD. Sure it was an expensive flop, but does that mean they didn't love watching it?

Somewhere out there, there has to be something better than man... but you won't find a better discussion on 1968's Planet of The Apes than THIS! (Well, we didn't really look. We're just assuming.) This has been known for decades as a sci-fi classic, and we're eager to get down to monkey business (GET IT?) and give it a rewatch!

Did this "Scary Perry" guy really get cast in a huge blockbuster movie? We're still not sure what's real and what isn't, but we know we had a hell of a time with this cult classic TV movie "Windy City Heat" from 2003. Had you seen it or even heard of it? This has always had a spot on our shelf (since we could actually find a copy of the DVD), and we talk a little bit about what we love about it.

It's up to Rocco and Shawn to don the trenchcoats and solve some mysteries! See what we had to say about our first Bogart flick. This is part one of two fedora-laden Movie Club episodes this weekend- stay tuned for Windy City Heat!

If you like martial arts, AND Donnie Yen, AND choreographed trash pickup sequences, AND father issues... you may want to watch this new Movie Club! Derrick shows us Iron Monkey, which he's seen- and we hear plenty from the guys who haven't!

This episode of Movie Club may not last as long as Tom Hanks' first piss in the women's locker room, but it's just as entertaining!* (*Almost) We watched A League Of Their Own from 1992 - which of us saw it then and barely remember? And which of us never saw it at all? And... wait for it... is it a HOME RUN or a FOUL BALL? GET IT???

You may be shocked as you scroll by this new Movie Club episode. You may think to yourself- "Wow, that thumbnail image... I've NEVER seen that image before." Yes, a common reaction to seeing anything for the very first time (ever). But look past the image and see it for what it really is- a new, reflective, introspective episode of Movie Club where we watch The Whale and peel back what we think is really going on with its characters.

Hey, have you guys played Metal Gear? Cool, then you've pretty much already seen ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, where every video game idea was lifted from. But is there more to it than that? Watch as we dive into another John Carpenter movie we hadn't seen yet and see what it's all about!

Kill the soundtrack and remove all men from the premises (at least, their physical presence). It's time to PAINT. Let's sketch up a Portrait of a Lady On Fire and see what everyone thought of it.

"ALRIGHTY THEN!" - Guess the movie :) So yeah, we've all heard the quotes and impressions (at least we did on the playground decades ago), but how much do we care about Ace Ventura now? We all watched it again (some of us for the first time) to see if there's something still there in the ol' birdcage or doghouse or whatever.

Last week we said we'd watch The Whale. But it wasn't widely available to watch at home, which was lame. So we pivoted to another film rife with Oscar accolades- Tommy Boy, the 90s comedy with Chris Farley and David Spade! Who here embraced it in their youth and who here never saw it at all?

Excuse me? Are we rowin? Are we feckin rowin right now? Let's put our differences aside and watch Banshees of Inisherin for this week's Movie Club! This movie about an EXTREME misunderstanding between two friends in Ireland has lots of Oscar buzz, so we set out to see if we can connect with it ourselves before anyone does any bodily damage.

Behold, the ChristmasCast CHAMPIONSHIP BELT. The ULTIMATE new prize, made of gold and built of victory. This is the trophy that all ChristmasCast competitors are battling for this year, in the ultimate competition of food and fury… who will eat the most? Who will eat the least? Why does Spam smell like that? And will the sinister Doctor Ryan return to reclaim the throne once and for all?

What level are YOU on? Well, hopefully you can join us on the top level as we drop a huge Mega64 Movie Club dump on everyone below (wow this is a HORRIBLE intro). We watched the bizarre, creepy Spanish thriller "The Platform." Was it a connectable tale about societal structures, or was it a gross slab of food scraps? Join us as we all dine on it for the first time!

Didn't we just do this episode? Like, yesterday? Oh, silly us! We're just watching and talking about Groundhog Day, one of the most iconic Bill Murray movies about one day repeating forever. We all saw this when we were younger, but haven't revisited it in a good while. Want to see what we thought? We got you, babe!

It's Oscar season (or it was when we recorded this), so we might as well start diving into the good stuff now and see some long, quiet movies about music composers. None of us had seen (or knew anything about) Tar (2022), but it's got some awards season buzz, so we figured it was time to give it a watch. Who will enjoy it? Who won't? And who's cancelled?

Our friends urged us to see it. YOU insisted we see it. So... we saw it. And what do we even say here? There's so much to touch on- fire, water, bullets, tigers- just about everything ever made shows up at some point in this 3+ hour Indian epic. And this episode's length is equally as vast! Watch our thoughts and feelings on RRR... you may be surprised by our review!

*We are on tour right now so we are putting up 2 episodes of movie club up early! Listen now or wait till Tuesdays... The choice is yours! We did an episode of Movie Club LIVE on twitch. In this episode, we discuss the hit action movie John Wick starring Keanu Reeves is it good? Did it go too far? Let's find out!

*We are on tour right now so we are putting up 2 episodes of movie club up early! Listen now or wait till Tuesdays... The choice is yours! We all watched Home Alone 2 once again. We've all confirmed our love for the first movie a million times, but how has the sequel aged? We talk about it AND discuss the nature of sequels- can they retroactively affect your opinions on the original movie? All that PLUS Trump talk! Credit card, you got it!

Two men grew up with this twisted golf tale. One man did not. Will Happy Gilmore cross the great Sand-man gulf and change the mind of the unmoved? Find out as the Mega64 crew tees up to revisit this Adam Sandler classic!

Mega64 Movie Club to dives into one of the country's most beloved holiday movies! Beyond the turkey dreams and transportation nightmares, can this Steve Martin/John Candy entertain those seeing it now for the first time?

Time for us to settle in for a nice, romantic, quiet, introspectve Korean film. That's what this is, right? Well, turns out we were wrong. MOST of us didn't know there were zombies involved. Did you? It's time for some great Korean cinema on this week's Mega64 Movie Club! Choo choo! It's apocalypse time!

The Official, completely factual Weird Al biopic just came out on streaming recently, so the Mega64 gang took the opportunity to take a deeper look into this very unusual take on music film formula! Did we "EAT IT" up? Leave a comment if you got that joke.

This week on Movie Club we're paying respects to some other filmmakers shooting low budget stuff in San Diego! Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead have been embarking on some higher profile gigs (like with Marvel) and some more notable features... But let's take a look at their first attempt back in 2012, the quiet and creepy indie film "Resolution!"

Man, that title was a mouthful. Anyway, Movie Club is back and we're doing something a little different. We watched the first 3 episodes of Lord Of The Rings - The Rings of Power! 3 hours worth of TV is pretty equal to a movie, right? Let's dig into the mines beneath this Middle Earth streaming epic and see what all of us thought about it!

Tom Hanks had a ton of movies in the 80's, just like this one. Except this one is... actually a 90s movie? Where he wants to jump into a volcano? How had none of us seen this before? Even Hanks-heads may have skipped this in the past, but we're diving head first into Joe Vs. The Volcano!

Straight from the sewer and into your home! All of us have fairly formative memories of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from our youth- and at the center was a major TMNT motion picture! It had a lot of big box office numbers, but was the film actually good? As these turtles became men, so have we, and we give you our grown-ass-men assessment of the movie now!

Rocco and Derrick head to the movie theater to finally see some Italian horror for Movie Club! Join us for the gross and gooey DEMONS... and let us all wonder what Shawn would have thought.

For our returning full-group episode of Movie Club, we're paying a visit to two criminals we always heard about, but never really knew all their history. Well, apparently we chose a bad place to do our research, because this film version of Bonnie & Clyde is apparently not too historically accurate. But does that matter in a movie like this? Give us your take- and watch ours!

Shawn and Rocco are SHOOK (LOL!) by this 90s Kevin Bacon cult classic about creatures terrorizing humanity from beneath the ground. What did they learn, feel, and vibrate with after watching it all these years later?

After yet another schedule derailment, Movie Club is back and in full Michael Bay mode, as the AMBULANCE charges through the city at high speeds! Does the city of LA benefit from this medical mayhem, or is it an insult AND injury? Next week's movie is TREMORS.

Can you believe Shawn picked a baseball movie??? Bull Durham has Kevin Costner playing in the minor leagues as Susan Sarandon tries to have sex with him or whatever. Is this movie good or not, and what did we take away from it?

This week, we're revisiting a film that we all loved back when it came out, but haven't seen in a long long time- a walk down the faded-lime tinted aisles of The Green Mile. Has this 1930's prison with a dark fantasy tinge aged well or what?

This week on Movie Club we discuss the Stanley Kubrick classic Full Metal Jacket. Released in 1987 the film observes soldiers as they deal with boot camp and the traumatizing effects of the Vietnam war. Does this film hold up and how do the guys feel about it? Tune in to find out!

As we wait for Derrick to return, we bring you this BONUS interim episode of Movie Club where Shawn and Rocco discuss the oft forgotten sort-of 4th Jackass movie, Bad Grandpa!

Are you a bit of a Candyman? All John Candy nuts, gather round for the ultimate Movie Club episode where we watch "Summer Rental" for the first time! Is it funny? Or should we have watched Uncle Buck instead?

Imagine completing The Godfather Part II and then just... dropping another movie a few months later. Well, Coppola did it! But did it pay off? We watch THE CONVERSATION, a movie about our privacy. Is it more relevant than ever? Or is the conversation a boring one?

The three warlocks gather around to once again stir the witches' brew... and they come up with a 1998 movie that many consider a cult classic! Derrick thinks he may have found an unappreciated gem... will the other guys feel the same way? Or does the spell not work on them??

What a rush! Step into the portal and watch our deep dive into Stargate, an action movie from the 90s that tapped into peoples' otherworldly fascination with pyramids and stuff. Did it rule or has the flow of time damaged this desert adventure?

This week on Movie Club we discuss the 1980s Sci Fi (Maybe? Kind of?) war film The Final Countdown! It was NOT what any of us were expecting. Did we watch it for free on Tubi with commercials? Tune in to find out!

Viewer beware: this episode of Movie Club is our HOT TAKE episode! You might think WE are the dirty rotten scoundrels here! I mean, as opposed to the 1988 comedy by the same name. Watch this and see what we thought of it!

No, we didn't say Librarian. It's Conan the Barbarian- a movie all of us had heard of but hadn't totally watched as adults. Arnold swears it was a godsend to his career... but does it live up to the legend? Join us as we explore this sword and sorcery adventure together!

Hold your breath. Make a wish. Count to three. Come with [us] and you'll [watch the latest episode of Movie Club where we talk about the 1971 classic film, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory].
