  • 1213 - DUSTIN DIEFENDERFER | Are You Tough Enough?

“Tough” is an adjective we often associate with our perception of manliness. But in the relative ease of modernity, men are becoming increasingly soft and pathetic. Being tough is no longer amatter of survival but a matter of choice. And, why wouldn’t you choose to be tough? It’s rhetorical but why are so many men weak?

My guest today, founder of MTNTOUGH, Dustin Diefenderfer is a man who knows what it means to be tough. He’s also training thousands of men to do the same though physical fitness that matters in the mountains and in everyday life. Today, we talk about the importance of brotherhood, the reason every man needs a purpose, passion, and plan, taking “tests” to quantify your progress, what he calls, “the 10-year rule,” the “Spartan Effect,” and so much more.

  • 1212 - Communication is King | FRIDAY FIELD NOTES

In this week's FRIDAY FIELD NOTES, Ryan Michler tackles the often-unspoken side of communication—the receiver's role. He unpacks the concept of a 100-100 approach, where both parties carry equal weight in ensuring the success of a conversation. He explores how being aware of the intended outcome can shape our understanding and responses, and why it's crucial to set personal and time boundaries for a respectful and fruitful dialogue. As he dissects these responsibilities, he also addresses the need to actively strive for comprehension rather than feign ignorance, shedding light on how these practices contribute to more meaningful interactions.

  • 1211 - OJ Simpson, Faith in Your Course of Action, and Taking on Other People’s Issues

In this week's ASK ME ANYTHING, the news of OJ Simpson's passing hit the headlines, it set off a whirlwind of emotions and retrospection about the impact of celebrity and the justice system on society. Our latest discussion is an unflinching look at how we remember those who've led tumultuous lives, and the struggle to honor the departed while acknowledging their controversial legacies. Kipp and I delve into societal expectations when it comes to paying tribute to such individuals, weighing the scales of public opinion against legal outcomes, and sharing our personal reflections on the matter.

Stoicism offers a beacon in the fog when personal integrity seems at odds with external pressures. It's a philosophy that Kipp and I summon as we navigate the maze of life's decisions, from the verdicts handed down by juries to the practices of parenting amidst societal shifts. This episode is an open invitation to our listeners to consider the influence of conscience over fear. We share stories from our own lives, from blending families to supporting friends through personal struggles, which illustrate the profound impact of our choices and actions in shaping our path to authenticity.
