Genesis 1–2 shows that humanity originally enjoyed fellowship with God, but Genesis 3 brought disobedience, resulting in shame, hiding, the curse, death, and the loss of Eden.

This also created an identity crisis: Man's understanding of both God and himself was shattered.

In Genesis 3:7, Adam and Eve tried to cover their shame with fig leaves, representing man's attempt to define or cover himself through his own efforts.

However, in Genesis 3:21, God provided a covering made from animal skins. This becomes a watershed event: A historic point or event that permanently changes the course, direction or a state of a situation and anticipates the biblical truth of sacrifice, redemption, and ultimately Christ's substitutionary sacrifice.

The event teaches that:

1. We should not try to cover our shame or define ourselves by our achievements and efforts.

2. Our true identity is found in Jesus Christ, not in ourselves.

3. We are clothed and covered in Christ, whose blood provides a permanent covering.

4. God did not abandon humanity after the fall; He provided a way toward redemption and restoration.

5. The blood covenant points forward to Christ, whose precious blood purchased our redemption (Zechariah 9:11; 1 Peter 1:19).

As Christians, we are defined by the scars and sacrifice of another, Jesus Christ.

Key message: The watershed event calls us to stop hiding and exchange the temporary “fig-leaf identity” for the permanent, blood-bought identity we have in Jesus Christ.

It represents the finished work on the cross.

In John 19:28-30, Jesus completed His mission, making it a decisive moment for humanity, while 2 Peter 1:3-4 shows that through this, we receive everything needed for life and godliness.

From the beginning, God created everything perfectly and declared it good (Genesis 1:31). However, He gave a command that disobedience, going outside His Word, would lead to death. Easter, therefore, becomes God’s solution to restore what was lost through disobedience.

As believers, we belong to the spiritual family and lineage of Christ. According to Ephesians 4:1–7, those who are called by God must live lives worthy of that calling, showing humility, gentleness, patience, and unity.

God expects His children to be humble in every situation regardless of their position or status, because pride is the opposite of humility and has no place in the life of a believer.

Believers must walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16, 19–22), producing the fruit of the Spirit instead of the works of the flesh. Also, following Christ may involve suffering (Philippians 1:29), but it is part of the calling of those who belong to Him.

This message teaches that God calls believers to grow into spiritual maturity and responsibility. In Matthew 14:15–18, Jesus told the disciples, “You feed them,” because it was time for them to act on what they had learnt. He wanted them to offer what they had so He could perform a miracle through it. Likewise, in Exodus 5:2, Moses only had a shepherd’s rod, yet God used that ordinary object powerfully. The lesson is that God can use whatever we place in His hands.

2 Timothy 2:15 encourages believers to study the Word of God so they may be approved and properly equipped. The Word is the Bread of Life, living and active, and it carries God’s power. We must know it, pray it and live by it in order to help others and bring glory to God.

Psalms 138:2 teaches that God magnifies and honours His Word, meaning He is committed to fulfilling His promises. Because God exalts His Word, we can trust it completely. The Word should be treasured, relied upon and used as our spiritual weapon, for without it we can easily be deceived.

Jesus commands us in John 13:34–35 to love one another as He loved us. This love is not optional; it is the true mark of a Christian. While many people pray, it is love that proves we are His disciples.

Christ showed the highest form of love through sacrifice, laying down His life for us despite rejection and pain. Therefore, true brotherly love involves sacrifice, pain and forgiveness. Hatred is a trap, but love strengthens the Church.

As new creations in Christ, we must walk in sincere brotherly love, because it is the divine character of our faith and the evidence that we belong to Him.

The inheritance of believers is primarily spiritual, not material. It is the privilege of being co-heirs with Christ, meaning we share in the victory He won and in the inheritance He received from God.

The ultimate purpose of salvation is intimate fellowship with God. From Exodus 19:4–6 to John 17:24 and Revelation 21:3, the consistent theme is that God’s desire is to dwell with His people. Worship is therefore not the end goal or objective, but a means to deeper intimacy with Him.

Although God provides material blessings (Deuteronomy 8:18), His greater inheritance is spiritual and is found in the person of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is both the reason we are born again and the means by which we receive this inheritance.

According to Romans 4:16, we receive this inheritance by faith through grace. As God’s people, we must stand and fight together in unity to walk in this inheritance.

The Word of God is the source of our inheritance. To receive what God has promised, we must first know His will through His Word and then obey it with patience. ( Hebrews 10:35-36).

Inheritance can either be natural or spiritual, and God has a specific timetable for each person’s life. His promises are time-bound and cannot be rushed. Though it tarries, we wait. the fulfilment may delay, it will surely come at the right time.

The greatest fight is to be able to fight according to the Word of God, which requires studying and rightly applying it. Sin and disobedience can delay or even block inheritance, as seen in the lives of Moses and in generational consequences within families. Small feuds, can create long-lasting spiritual strongholds.

Ultimately, entering into God’s inheritance takes patience, obedience, and the miracle-working power of God. We must trust His timing, remain faithful, and not be afraid, knowing that God will bring us into our inheritance at the appointed time.

Emotional distractions, especially unresolved emotions, can hold people in the past and prevent them from moving into God’s future ( Hebrews 12:1).

True focus begins in the heart before it shows in actions. When a believer is focused, they stop dwelling on what holds them back and start moving forward. Consistency is proof that focus has matured, and God always rewards faithful consistency.

As we step into a new year, we begin not with haste, but with prayer.

This prayer was recorded on the first Sunday of the year as we gathered to thank God for His faithfulness from January 1st to December 31st, 2025.

We reflect on the challenges that discouraged us, the moments that tested our faith, and yet the many ways God came through for us, both as individuals and as a church.

We also commit the year into God’s hands, trusting Him for divine order, direction, and purpose. Though we know the enemy may contest what God has spoken, we stand confident that the Lord will speak through for His people.

As we pray, we declare in faith that no gate will be closed before us, that every opportunity aligned with God’s will shall remain open.

May this prayer strengthen your heart, align your spirit, and encourage you to walk into the year with confidence in God.
