Август в России – это особенный месяц. С одной стороны, лето ещё продолжается. На улице тепло, люди ездят на дачу, купаются, гуляют и едят арбузы. С другой стороны, все уже чувствуют, что осень близко. Вечера становятся прохладнее, дни становятся короче, а в магазинах появляются школьные тетради, рюкзаки и ручки.

В августе многие семьи готовятся к новому учебному году. Родители покупают детям одежду, обувь, канцелярию и школьные принадлежности. Дети обычно не очень рады, потому что каникулы заканчиваются. Но иногда им интересно снова увидеть друзей и узнать, кто будет их новым учителем.

Ещё август это время урожая. Люди собирают яблоки, огурцы, помидоры, кабачки и ягоды. Многие делают варенье, солят огурцы или замораживают овощи на зиму. Поэтому август часто чувствуется как месяц между свободой и подготовкой.

August in Russia is a special month. On the one hand, summer is still going on. It is warm outside, people go to the dacha, swim, walk, and eat watermelons. On the other hand, everyone already feels that autumn is close. The evenings become cooler, the days become shorter, and school notebooks, backpacks, and pens appear in stores.

In August, many families prepare for the new school year. Parents buy children clothes, shoes, stationery, and school supplies. Children are usually not very happy, because vacation is ending. But sometimes they are interested in seeing their friends again and finding out who their new teacher will be.

August is also harvest time. People pick apples, cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, and berries. Many people make jam, pickle cucumbers, or freeze vegetables for the winter. That is why August often feels like a month between freedom and preparation.

Летом многие русские семьи любят ездить на дачу. Дача – это небольшой дом за городом, где люди отдыхают, работают в саду и проводят время на свежем воздухе. У кого-то дача большая и удобная, а у кого-то совсем простая: маленький домик, старый стол, несколько грядок и яблоня во дворе.

На даче люди часто выращивают овощи, ягоды и цветы. В июле уже можно есть свежие огурцы, зелёный лук, укроп, салат и клубнику. Иногда кажется, что дача – это не отдых, а вторая работа. Нужно поливать растения, собирать ягоды, бороться с сорняками и чинить всё, что сломалось за зиму.

Но всё равно многие любят дачу. Там можно пить чай на улице, слушать птиц, жарить шашлыки и долго разговаривать вечером. Для многих людей дача – это место, где лето чувствуется особенно сильно.

Translation:

In the summer, many Russian families like to go to the dacha. A dacha is a small house outside the city, where people relax, work in the garden, and spend time outdoors. Some people have a large and comfortable dacha, while others have a very simple one: a small house, an old table, a few garden beds, and an apple tree in the yard.

At the dacha, people often grow vegetables, berries, and flowers. In July, you can already eat fresh cucumbers, green onions, dill, lettuce, and strawberries. Sometimes it seems that the dacha is not rest, but a second job. You need to water the plants, pick berries, fight weeds, and fix everything that broke during the winter.

But many people still love the dacha. There you can drink tea outside, listen to birds, grill shashlik, and talk for a long time in the evening. For many people, the dacha is a place where summer feels especially strong.

Пасха – это праздник воскресения Христа. Этот праздник пришел на Русь из Византии вместе с крещением в конце X века. С тех пор по всей России широко, красиво и торжественно отмечают этот христианский праздник.

Традиционное ритуальное блюдо на столе – кулич. Кулич представляет собой кекс цилиндрической формы, который занимает почётное место на каждом православном обеденном столе. Кулич – это сладкий хлеб c сухофруктами, миндалём, смородиной, кардамоном и другими сладкими штуками. Многие верующие завершают Великий пост, который длится шесть недель перед пасхой. Во время поста нельзя мясо, молочные продукты, яйца, алкоголь. Для того, чтобы отметить конец этих лишений, русские начинают уплетать традиционные куличи. Традиционно в этот день люди приветствуют друг друга фразой "Христос воскрес!". Ответ " Воистину воскрес!" Ещё одна традиция – красить яйца. Раскрашенные пасхальные яйца могут содержать геометрические или органические традиционные узоры, пейзажи, церкви, сцены из истории или другие изображения. В царские времена пасхальные яйца, изготовленные из драгоценных металлов и драгоценных камней, дарились друг другу членами царской семьи.

Ну вот мы, как правило, учим в школе 10 лет, одиннадцать. – Да уж… – В институте, ВУЗе учим пять-шесть лет. – Ну а кого-нибудь, кто из иностранцев говорит по-русски, ты знаешь? – Ну конечно, встречала в своей жизни. Говорила, общалась. И на отдыхе очень часто иностранные граждане пытались с нами говорить на нашем языке, на русском. Это всегда очень забавно. – Ну откуда они были? – Из разных стран. Из Западной Европы. – А откуда они знают русский? – Ну это там разные варианты. Кто-то просто как хобби изучал. Кого-то жизнь заставила. Кто-то пожил в нашей среде языковой. Вот. – Ну и как ты оцениваешь? Это звучит смешно или нормально? – Это звучит всегда очень привлекательно. Но «смешно» – это не то слово. Ну, вызывает улыбку добрую.

Sometimes Russian names might seem really strange and complicated. So here we are trying to find the reasons why it is like that. And as usual many interesting new words for you. Enjoy!

Русские имена почему-то очень часто удивляют иностранцев. Дело в том, что почти каждое русское имя имеет две формы – официальную и повседневную. Например, моё имя Дарья, но чаще всего меня зовут Даша. То же самое с остальными именами: Мария – это Маша, Павел – это Паша, Виктор – это Витя и так далее. Некоторые имена не меняются – например, Марина. Кроме того, в России у каждого человека есть не только имя и фамилия, но и отчество. Оно образуется от имени отца. Например, моего папу зовут Сергей, поэтому моё отчество – Сергеевна. Дарья Сергеевна. Полное имя, то есть фамилия, имя и отчество, используется в большинстве официальных документов. Кроме того, незнакомые люди обращаются друг к другу по имени и отчеству (например, на работе). Молодые обращаются по имени и отчеству к старшим. В неформальных ситуациях мы обычно называем друг друга только по имени.

- Очень распространённый стереотип. Практически во всём мире думают, что это так. Но мы здесь только посмеиваемся. Конечно, медведи есть в лесах, в заповедных каких-то зонах, где нет людей. Ну бывает, медведи там близко подходят к каким-то деревням, сёлам отдалённым.

- Ну ты сама видела когда-нибудь дикого медведя?

- Да ну нет конечно.

- Вот я тоже только в зоопарке.

- В зоопарке и по телевизору. Всё.

In this episode we're talking about the great Russian holiday - Maslenitsa. It dates back to IX century! And we still celebrate it nowadays.

Одним из самых весёлых праздников в России считается Масленица. Это праздник прощания с зимой и встречи весны. Такая традиция появилась ещё до принятия на Руси христианства. Масленицу отмечают целую неделю. В 2016 году она празднуется с 7 по 13 марта. Главным блюдом на столе, конечно, являются русские блины. Они круглые, жёлтые, горячие, прямо как солнце. К блинам подают разные начинки – икра, солёная рыба, творог, варенье, фрукты. В наши дни в парках часто устраивают большие гуляния. Люди едят горячие блины, танцуют под народную музыку, участвуют в забавных соревнованиях. Главная традиция во время Масленицы – сжигание чучела зимы. Его делают из соломы или старых тряпок, наряжают в женскую одежду, красят и поджигают. Это символизирует конец зимы. Последнее воскресенье Масленицы называется «прощённое Воскресенье». В этот день все просятдруг у друга прощения. Когда кто-то говорит вам «прости меня», вы должны отвечать «Бог простит».

Вчера я ходила в московский Музей космонавтики. Потрясающее место! Космос и его изучение всегда имели большое значение для России. Именно СССР в 1957-м году впервые запустил в космос спутник. Спустя четыре года, в 1961-м, на орбиту отправился и первый человек, знаменитыйЮрий Гагарин. Интересно, что до Гагарина орбитальный полет совершали животные. Самые знаменитые русские космонавты-животные – собаки Белка и Стрелка. В 1960-м году они провели в космосе 25 часов и вернулись на Землю целыми и невредимыми. В музее космонавтики можно увидеть их чучела. Кроме того, там очень много интересных вещей! Модели космических кораблей и спутников, старые и новые скафандры, личные вещи известных космонавтов. Можно зайти внутрь космической станции и посмотреть, как там все организовано.

День святого Валентина пришел в Россию в начале 90-х годов. В это время сняли «железный занавес», и в страну наконец-то стала проходить западная культура.

Однако даже сегодня, спустя двадцать лет, этот праздник не очень популярен среди россиян. Конечно, магазины украшают сердечками, везде продаются конфеты и подарки в форме сердца, по телевизору показывают романтические комедии. Тем не менее, мало кто по-настоящему отмечает этот праздник. Старшее поколение и некоторые религиозные люди считают его «чужим», «нерусским». Иногда они даже организовывают какие-то митинги против дня святого Валентина. Для большинства молодых людей этот день – просто еще один повод провести время с любимыми, сделать друг другу небольшие сюрпризы. Многие пары устраивают романтический ужин при свечах и признаются друг другу в любви.

Но при этом есть огромная масса женщин российских, которые… Вообще им неведомо, что это такое. Во-первых, они полные. И не от того, что больны, а потому что много кушают. Там… Не следят за собой. Number one stereotype about Russia - drinking vodka! Let's talk about it a little.

– Давай про стереотипы о России. Какие из них правдивые? Какие нет? – Ой, ну это тут готовиться надо… – А что? Не надо, зачем к этому готовиться. Вот, например… – Первое, что на ум приходит? – … что все пьют, что все алкаши. – Ну нет, конечно. И нормальные люди за рубежом тоже понимают, что такого быть не может. Не было бы такой огромной страны… – Ну почему первая ассоциация – это пьяный человек… – Русская водка. – Бутылка водки в руке, какая-то шапка с идиотскими этими ушами. – Ну потому что ушанки были долго, я согласна. И щас даже некоторые ходят. – А где? Сейчас нет. Я ни разу не видела. – А я вот недавно дорогу переходила, на машине ехали с мужем. Дорогу переходит, я говорю: «Смотри, ушанка!»… Нет, ну про водку. – Ну. – Ну, это пятьдесят на пятьдесят миф. Он на 50 процентов оправдан, потому что действительно если что-то произошло, это обязательно выпивается водка. – Ну да… – Или, ну, люди садятся и это дело как-то обсуждают. Обсуждается за бутылкой вина или водки. – Ну не до усмерти же? – Ну нет конечно. Ну это тоже от человека зависит. Если у человека так, что-то произошло, он в стрессе, ему сразу наливают коньяк или водку. – Ну ты знаешь людей, которые совсем не пьют? – Конечно. Стереотип 1. Все русские пьют водку. За границей считают, что в России почти все страдают алкоголизмом. Некоторые иностранцы уверены, что водка обязательно есть в каждом доме, и что ее пьют каждый день.

Стереотип 2. По улицам ходят медведи. Многие думают, что в России медведи живут прямо в городе, и их спокойно можно встретить на улице. В интернете множество картинок, на которых русский человек обнимается с медведем.

Стереотип 3. Русские едят красную икру. Красная икра считается одним из символов России. В любом ресторане для туристов обязательно подают блины с икрой. В сувенирных магазинах продаются магниты с бутербродами с икрой. Традиционная русская кухня ассоциируется с полной тарелкой икры.

Стереотип 4. Русские девушки помешаны на своей внешности. Многие иностранцы думают, что все русские женщины следят за собой. Макияж, прическа, каблуки. Русские женщины всегда «при параде».

Стереотип 5. У русских дома куча матрешек, кокошников и прочих сувениров. Русская культура ассоциируется с национальным стилем: хохлома, матрешки, сарафаны. У каждого русского человека должен быть набор сувениров.

There are many stereotypes about Russia and the Russian people in the world. Let's review some of them.

1. All Russians drink vodka. People from abroad think that in Russia almost everyone suffers from alcoholism. Some foreigners are sure that there must be vodka in every home and that people drink it every day.

2. Bears walk down the streets. Many people think that in Russia bears live right in the cities and you can easily meet one on the street. There are lots of pictures on the Internet with some Russian hugging a bear.

3. Russians eat red caviar. The red caviar is considered one of the symbols of Russia. In any restaurant for tourists, they serve pancakes with red caviar. At the souvenir stores, they sell magnets with caviar. The traditional Russian cuisine is associated with a plate full of caviar.

4. Russian girls are obsessed with how they look. Many foreigners think that Russian women take care of how they look. Make-up, hairstyles, heels. Russian women are always all dressed up.

5. Russians have lots of matrioshka dolls, kokoshniks, and other souvenirs. Russian culture is associated with the national style: khokhloma, matrioshka dolls, and sarafans. Every Russian person must have a bunch of souvenirs.

New Year is coming... And for Russians it means lots and lots of FOOD! So it's the perfect time to learn a couple facts about traditional Russian dishes.

Традиционный русский обед обычно состоит из трех блюд. Сначала подают какой-нибудь суп из мяса с овощами (например, борщ или солянку). После супа подают второе блюдо – мясо или рыбу с гарниром (гречневая каша, картошка, рис). После этого люди обычно едят сладкие пироги и пьют компот. Во все времена в России были популярны закуски. Традиционными считаются блины с красной икрой, сельдь «под шубой», салат из помидоров и огурцов со сметаной. Также хозяйки готовили пирожки с капустой, мясным фаршем или картофелем.

В прошлом строго соблюдалось время завтрака, обеда и ужина. Вся семья собиралась за столом, где у каждого было свое постоянное место. Первым садился за стол хозяин дома, за ним все остальные члены семьи. Жидкие горячие блюда обычно подавали в общей большой чашке на всю семью. Твердые, печеные, жареные блюда (мясо, рыбу и так далее) нарезались на куски и тоже подавались на большом блюде. Их ели прямо руками, потому что вилки появились в истории гораздо позже. Вместо тарелок использовали большие куски хлеба. Гости клали на них густую пищу (например, каши), куски мяса и рыбы. После обеда такие «хлебные тарелки» обычно тоже съедали.

Правила поведения за столом были строгими: нельзя было стучать по столу ложкой о посуду, нельзя бросать остатки пищи на пол, а также громко смеяться и разговаривать. Перед тем, как сесть за стол, каждый должен был сказать молитву. Это подтверждает уважение, которое русские люди испытывали по отношению к пище.

Во многих католических странах главным волшебником Рождества является Санта Клаус. Это дедушка с белой бородой и доброй улыбкой. Он носит очки и красный костюм. Дети знают, что Санта ездит на оленях, а помогают ему маленькие эльфы. Чтобы получить подарок, обязательно нужно лечь спать до полуночи – иначе можно спугнуть Санту, который осторожно кладет подарок в рождественский чулок. Кстати, чтобы Санта Клаус знал, какой подарок принести, лучше написать ему письмо. И очень важно не забывать, что Санта обожает молоко с печеньем! Оставьте ему немного на столе рядом с рождественской елкой.

Кто не слышал про суровую русскую зиму? Русская зима – это один из главных стереотипов о нашей стране, вместе с медведями и водкой.

В Сибири зимой бывает очень холодно! В таких городах как Омск, Новосибирск, Красноярск снега зимой много-много. Иногда температура опускается настолько низко, что покрываются инеемдаже ресницы. А на юге России тепло круглый год. В Сочи практически не бывает снега. И температура редко опускается ниже нуля. В Москве и Санкт-Петербурге периодически бывают холодные и снежные зимы. Если вы хотите увидеть настоящую русскую зиму с ледяными городками, с катанием на санях, с нырянием в снег после бани, то поезжайте дальше от Москвы, туда, где много снега.

Now I work at a university, and I really enjoy teaching others. It is a wonderful profession. I often tell my students that they should memorize poems by heart—it's good for memory.

In general, constantly learning something new is very important. For example, now I want to learn to play the piano and dance.

The "Energia" — "Buran" program was a landmark project in the history of Soviet space exploration. It was a reusable transport space system (RTSS), developed as a response to the American Space Shuttle program. "Energia" — "Buran" was one of only two such systems ever implemented in the world.

Единственный полёт корабля «Буран» состоялся 15 ноября 1988 года. Он прошёл в полностью беспилотном режиме. Программа стартовала в 1974 году, но уже в 1993 году работы по проекту были официально прекращены. Главными конструкторами системы были Юрий Павлович Семенов, ответственный за разработку «Бурана», и Борис Иванович Губанов, руководивший созданием ракеты-носителя «Энергия».

The only flight of the "Buran" spacecraft took place on November 15, 1988, in a fully unmanned mode. The program was launched in 1974, but by 1993, work on the project was officially terminated. The chief designers of the system were Yuri Pavlovich Semenov, responsible for developing the "Buran," and Boris Ivanovich Gubanov, who led the creation of the "Energia" launch vehicle.

Translation:

Catherine II, also known as Catherine the Great, ruled the Russian Empire in the 18th century. She is one of the most famous and influential figures in Russian history. Catherine came to power after overthrowing her husband, Peter III, and entered history as an enlightened monarch who actively contributed to the expansion and modernization of Russia.

Catherine carried out a number of important reforms aimed at strengthening state power and developing culture. Her reign was marked by significant territorial acquisitions, including the inclusion of Crimea, and parts of Poland.

Catherine also actively interacted with many of the leading minds of her time, including Voltaire and Diderot, and her contribution to the development of Enlightenment ideals in Russia was significant. Catherine was unable to completely overcome the entrenched feudal orders, and serfdom remained unchanged until the end of her reign. Her rule left a deep mark in the history of Russia.

Kyiv is the capital and most populous city of Ukraine.

It is an important industrial, scientific, educational, and cultural center of Eastern Europe.

The city's name is said to derive from the name of Kyi, one of its four legendary founders. Kyiv probably existed as a commercial center as early as the 5th century. A Slavic settlement on the great trade route between Scandinavia and Constantinople.

Completely destroyed during the Mongol invasions in 1240, the city lost most of its influence. It was a provincial capital of marginal importance in the outskirts of the territories controlled by its powerful neighbors, first Lithuania, then Poland, and ultimately Russia.

The city prospered again during the Russian Empire's Industrial Revolution in the late 19th century. In 1918, after the Ukrainian People's Republic declared independence from Soviet Russia, Kyiv became its capital. From 1921 onwards Kyiv was a city of Soviet Ukraine, and, from 1934, Kyiv was its capital. The city was almost completely ruined during World War II but quickly recovered in the postwar years, remaining the Soviet Union's third-largest city.

Following the collapse of the Soviet Union and Ukrainian independence in 1991, Kyiv remained Ukraine's capital.

6 ноября 1893 года композитор скончался от холеры. Он похоронен в Александро-Невской лавре в Санкт-Петербурге.

At the age of five, Peter began to learn to play the piano.

In 1865, Tchaikovsky graduated with honors from the Conservatory – he received diploma and a silver medal.

In Moscow in 1866, Tchaikovsky composed his first symphony entitled "Winter Dreams" and the first opera "Voevoda".

The composer became an innovator in the field of ballet, where music became the main component of ballet drama. He created the ballets "Swan Lake" (1876), "The Sleeping Beauty" (1889), "The Nutcracker" (1892).

On November 6 1893, the composer died of cholera. He was buried at the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in St. Petersburg.

Who was the first man in space? Let's find out!

Кто был первым человеком в космосе? Первым человеком в космосе был Юрий Гагарин.

Он родился 9 марта 1934 года в деревне Клушино рядом с городом Гжатском. Сейчас этот город называется Гагарин.

В 1950-е годы Юрий учился в Первом Военном авиационном училище лётчиков. Как он стал космонавтом? Работать с космической техникой могли только особые кандидаты — профессионалы, абсолютно здоровые, дисциплинированные. Гагарина выбрали из 20 человек.

12 апреля 1961 года Юрий Гагарин стал первым человеком в мировой истории, который совершил полёт в космос. На корабле "Восток-1" он провёл в космосе 108 минут.

Чекалин — самый маленький город в России. Он находится в Тульской области. В Чекалине меньше тысячи жителей. В 2020 году в городе живут 863 человека.

Чекалин – это очень старый город. Впервые он был упомянут в летописях в 1565 году. При Иване Грозном город входил в состав опричнины, а к XIX веку превратился в зажиточный купеческий город на Оке.

Последнее столетие Чекалин пребывает в упадке: население сокращается, а городская инфраструктура разрушается. Тем не менее, когда в 2012 году администрация Тульской области предложила изменить статус поселения на сельский, многие чекалинцы выступили против и отстояли статус города.

Chekalin is the smallest town in Russia. It is located in the Tula region. Chekalin has fewer than a thousand inhabitants. In 2020, 863 people live in the city.

Chekalin is a very old town. It was first mentioned in chronicles in 1565. Under Ivan the Terrible, the city was part of the oprichnina, and by the 19th century, it had turned into a prosperous merchant city on the Oka river.

Over the past century, Chekalin has been in decline: the population is shrinking, and the urban infrastructure is collapsing. Nevertheless, when in 2012 the administration of the Tula region proposed to change the status of the settlement to a rural one, many Chekalin residents opposed and defended the status of the city.

В России мы, конечно, не отмечаем американский День Благодарения. У каждой нации есть свой праздник благодарности и урожая. Для русских это так называемый Яблочный Спас. Этот христианский праздник верующие начали отмечать в IV (четвертом) веке. Примерно с VII века православные верующие стали отмечать его 19 августа.

А у католиков эта дата вошла в календарь только в XV (пятнадцатом) веке. Они празднуют её 6 (шестого) августа.

В этот день люди идут в церковь и освящают яблоки и виноград. Кроме того, принято печь пироги и угощать ими родных и друзей.

С праздником связаны некоторые приметы. Например, на Яблочный спас внимательно смотрели на погоду. Считалось, что если этот день холодный, то и январь будет суровым.

In Russia, of course, we do not celebrate American Thanksgiving. Every nation has its own holiday of gratitude and harvest. For Russians, it is the so-called Apple Savior. Десять человек заболели уже в стране после контакта с приезжими, добавила она.

Smoking in Russia (Курение в России).

Давайте поговорим о курении в России. Для начала некоторые факты. Население России – одно из самых курящих в мире, примерно одна треть взрослого населения регулярно курит сигареты.

В 2013 году правительство запретило рекламу сигарет и курение в общественных местах. Минимальный возраст для покупки табака – 18 лет.

Что касается моего опыта, я знаю только одного человека, который регулярно курит – это моя свекровь. Остальные курильщики, которых я знала, давным-давно бросили курить.

В России используется валюта под названием рубль.

Первая рублёвая монета появилась только в 1654 году в ходе денежной реформы Алексея Михайловича.

В 19 веке монеты делали из меди, серебра и золота. Рубль стал третьей по стоимости валютой после Британского фунта и доллара США.

В 1920-е годы рубль был деноминирован, денежная система была реформирована: появились монеты номиналом в 1, 3 и 5 рублей.

Девальвация и деноминация рубля происходили позже не один раз.

1 июля 1992 года был введён свободный курс рубля, после чего он сразу же упал до 125 рублей за доллар. Появились купюры достоинством 50000 рублей, 100000 рублей и 500000 рублей.

Сегодня мы используем монеты номиналом 1, 2, 5 и 10 рублей, и купюры по 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 и 5000 рублей.

Russian superstitions today ;)

Text in Russian:

Сегодня я расскажу о трёх суевериях, в которые сама верю.

Первое. Перед дальней дорогой вся семья должна сесть и посидеть одну минуту, чтобы путешествие было хорошим. Мы делаем это перед каждой поездкой.

Второе. Если вы вышли из дома, а потом пришлось вернуться – надо посмотреть в зеркало, чтобы день был удачным.

Третье. Если вы просыпали соль на стол – надо бросить щепотку под стол, иначе в доме будет ссора.

Translation:

Today I will tell you three superstitions I believe.

First. Before a long trip the whole family should sit down and remain sitting an entire minute, so the journey will be good. We do it before each trip.

Second. If you went out of a house and then immediately return for some reason, you need to look in a mirror so the day would be fine.

Third. If you spill salt on a table, you ought to throw a pinch under the table, otherwise there will be an argument in the house.

Русский балет

Балет в России стал одной из визитных карточек нашей страны. Согласно источникам, первое представление прошло еще в 1670-е, во время царствования царя Алексея Михайловича.

Настоящий расцвет русского балета пришёлся на рубеж 18-19 веков, и к началу 20 в. он занял ведущее место в мировом балетном театре.

Всемирно известные русские балеты – «Лебединое озеро» и «Щелкунчик» П.И. Чайковского, «Ромео и Джульетта» С. Прокофьева и «Спартак» А. Хачатуряна.

Если вы когда-нибудь будете в России, обязательно сходите в Большой театр в Москве или Мариинский театр в Санкт-Петербурге.

Translation Ballet in Russia has become one of the calling cards of our country. According to sources, the first performance took place in 1670, during the reign of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich.

The real flowering of the Russian ballet fell on the turn of the 18-19th centuries, and by the beginning of the 20th century, it took the leading place in the world ballet theater.

World-famous Russian ballets - "Swan Lake" and "The Nutcracker" P. Tchaikovsky, "Romeo and Juliet" by S. Prokofiev and "Spartacus" A. Khachaturyan.

Диалог: минусы СССР

– Теперь давай про негативные стороны жизни в СССР.

– Я назову сразу один большой минус, из которого будет вытекать все остальное. Это так называемый железный занавес. И тогда мы это понимали, а сейчас прошло время – ещё больше это понимаем, осознаем. Что мы жили за большими железными воротами, и людей выпускали небольшими группами: артистов, партийных работников, и за ними следили всегда представители органов власти. Вот эта несвобода, этот занавес железный, невозможность увидеть мир породила целое поколение советских людей, которые не видели ничего дальше своего города, своей страны. Безусловно, это поколение с каким-то скошенным сознанием. Либо с манией величия своего государства, либо, наоборот, с ненавистью к нему, что «я не могу никуда поехать, увидеть то же море, кроме Черного». Да что моря, с людьми пообщаться, просто мир посмотреть.

– А про дефицит, про еду?

– Ну было такое понятие как «дефицит», да. Особенно продукты, вещи. За каким-то предметом мебели: ну шкаф, диван, холодильник, телевизор – люди стояли годами в очереди и копили деньги на это. Не то что сейчас поехал и купил.

– А про свободу слова? – Существовало такое понятие как «четвертая власть». Это была пресса. Если твоя фамилия в негативном контексте была опубликована в газете, тебя наутро снимали с работы. Вот такая была сила. Но это же не была свобода прессы, это диктат был.

– Даже не про прессу, а про обычного человека. Действительно ли нельзя было говорить ничего? – Конечно. Конечно, нельзя было. В принципе, можно было, но чревато последствиями. То есть надо было как-то использовать так называемый эзопов язык. Отсюда все вот эти жанры: анекдоты, частушки. Народ вот в этом и выплёскивал. Не было конечно никакой свободы слова, не было.

– Ну а если бы тебе сейчас предложили вернуть СССР? Назад всё что было?

– Нет! Можешь даже не продолжать свой вопрос. Нет.

– Now let's talk about the negative parts of life in the USSR.

– I'll name one big minus, and the rest will come out of it. It is the so-called Iron curtain. We used to understand it back then, and now after all this time, we understand and realize it even more. That we were living behind the big iron gate, and they were letting out only small groups of people: artists, political workers, and they were always followed by the representatives of power. And this lack of freedom, this iron curtain, the inability to see the world created a whole generation of Soviet people, who never saw anything beyond their city and country. And of course, it was a generation with a messed up mind. Either with a superiority complex about their country or on the contrary – with hatred towards it. Because «I can't go anywhere, even to see a sea except the Black one. Well, who cares about seas! I can't communicate with people or see the world!»

– And what about the deficit? about food?

– Well, there was such a term «deficit», yes. Especially food and goods. In order to buy a piece of furniture (wardrobe, sofa, fridge, TV) people had to wait in lines for years and save money. It was not like it is now – you go and buy.

– What about freedom of speech? – There used to be such a term – «the fourth branch of authority». It was the press. If your name was published in the negative aspect in a newspaper, the very next morning you'd lose your job. That was the power of it. But it wasn't the freedom of the press, it was a diktat.

– I don't even mean the press, it's more about a regular person. Is it true that you couldn't say anything?

– Absolutely! Of course, we couldn't. Actually, we could, but the consequences would follow. So we had to use the so-called Aesopian language. That's why all those genres appeared: anecdotes, chastushka (funny folk song). People spilled it all out this way. But of course, there was no freedom of speech at all.

– And if someone offered you to bring the USSR back? To get back everything that was there…

– No! You may not even finish your question. No.

Here is the story in Russian:

Однажды вечером я сидел во дворе, возле песка, и ждал маму. Она, наверно, задерживалась в институте, или в магазине, или, может быть, долго стояла на автобусной остановке. Не знаю. Только все родители нашего двора уже пришли, и все ребята пошли с ними по домам и уже, наверно, пили чай с бубликами и брынзой, а моей мамы все еще не было…

И вот уже стали зажигаться в окнах огоньки, и радио заиграло музыку, и в небе задвигались темные облака – они были похожи на бородатых стариков…

И мне захотелось есть, а мамы все не было, и я подумал, что, если бы я знал, что моя мама хочет есть и ждет меня где-то на краю света, я бы моментально к ней побежал, а не опаздывал бы и не заставлял ее сидеть на песке и скучать.

И в это время во двор вышел Мишка. Он сказал:

– Здорово!

И я сказал:

– Здорово!

Мишка сел со мной и взял в руки самосвал.

– Ого! – сказал Мишка. – Где достал? А он сам набирает песок? Не сам? А сам сваливает? Да? А ручка? Для чего она? Ее можно вертеть? Да? А? Ого! Дашь мне его домой?

Я сказал:

– Нет, не дам. Подарок. Папа подарил перед отъездом.

Мишка надулся и отодвинулся от меня. На дворе стало еще темнее.

Я смотрел на ворота, чтоб не пропустить, когда придет мама. Но она все не шла. Видно, встретила тетю Розу, и они стоят и разговаривают и даже не думают про меня. Я лег на песок.

Тут Мишка говорит:

– Не дашь самосвал?

– Отвяжись, Мишка.

Тогда Мишка говорит:

– Я тебе за него могу дать одну Гватемалу и два Барбадоса!

Я говорю:

– Сравнил Барбадос с самосвалом…

А Мишка:

– Ну, хочешь, я дам тебе плавательный круг?

Я говорю:

– Он у тебя лопнутый.

А Мишка:

– Ты его заклеишь!

Я даже рассердился:

– А плавать где? В ванной? По вторникам?

И Мишка опять надулся. А потом говорит:

– Ну, была не была! Знай мою доброту! На!

И он протянул мне коробочку от спичек. Я взял ее в руки.

– Ты открой ее, – сказал Мишка, – тогда увидишь!

Я открыл коробочку и сперва ничего не увидел, а потом увидел маленький светло-зеленый огонек, как будто где-то далеко-далеко от меня горела крошечная звездочка, и в то же время я сам держал ее сейчас в руках.

– Что это, Мишка, – сказал я шепотом, – что это такое?

– Это светлячок, – сказал Мишка. – Что, хорош? Он живой, не думай.

– Мишка, – сказал я, – бери мой самосвал, хочешь? Навсегда бери, насовсем! А мне отдай эту звездочку, я ее домой возьму…

И Мишка схватил мой самосвал и побежал домой. А я остался со своим светлячком, глядел на него, глядел и никак не мог наглядеться: какой он зеленый, словно в сказке, и как он хоть и близко, на ладони, а светит, словно издалека… И я не мог ровно дышать, и я слышал, как стучит мое сердце, и чуть-чуть кололо в носу, как будто хотелось плакать.

И я долго так сидел, очень долго. И никого не было вокруг. И я забыл про всех на белом свете.

Но тут пришла мама, и я очень обрадовался, и мы пошли домой. А когда стали пить чай с бубликами и брынзой, мама спросила:

– Ну, как твой самосвал?

А я сказал:

– Я, мама, променял его.

Мама сказала:

– Интересно! А на что?

Я ответил:

– На светлячка! Вот он, в коробочке живет. Погаси-ка свет!

И мама погасила свет, и в комнате стало темно, и мы стали вдвоем смотреть на бледно-зеленую звездочку.

Потом мама зажгла свет.

– Да, – сказала она, – это волшебство! Но все-таки как ты решился отдать такую ценную вещь, как самосвал, за этого червячка?

– Я так долго ждал тебя, – сказал я, – и мне было так скучно, а этот светлячок, он оказался лучше любого самосвала на свете.

Мама пристально посмотрела на меня и спросила:

– А чем же, чем же именно он лучше?

Я сказал:

– Да как же ты не понимаешь?! Ведь он живой! И светится!..

– Ну что, давай поговорим про жизнь в СССР. Были плюсы, были минусы. Сначала про плюсы. Что хорошего было? Если тебя попросят выделить три пункта, три плюса. Без политики, без каких-то таких вещей. Просто как человек в повседневной жизни. Три плюса.

– Ну… Мне нравилось, что тогда не было такого жесткого разделения на бедных и богатых. Все-таки жили все более менее ровно.

– Ровно бедно или нормально?

– Средний уровень. Да, была верхушка, олигархи были. Но это не было выражено так, как сейчас. Пенсионеры получают в тысячу раз меньше, чем, например, депутаты. Был какой-то плюс, потому что выделялись другим. Не одеждой, не финансовым положением, а брали чем-то другим: умом, достижениями. Это больше ценилось.

– Ладно, второй плюс.

– Ну второй плюс – это то, что государство обеспечивало в общем-то всех работой. Причем той, которой ты хотел заниматься. Три года государство тебе помогало. Была стабильность. То есть у тебя… после ВУЗа ты не переживал, куда ты пойдешь работать. У тебя всегда было место с зарплатой и с жильем. Тебе предоставляли как молодому специалисту три года. Давали жилье и зарплату. Это гарантия государственная была, сейчас этого нет.

– Что еще хорошего?

– Ощущение такое было, что страна огромная, дружная. Вот эта фраза «15 республик – 15 сестёр». И это был патриотизм, это была любовь к Родине. А про минусы мы сейчас скажем.

People could stand out differently. Not with clothes, not with financial success, but with intelligence and achievements. It was valued more.

– Ok, the second plus.

– Well, the second plus is that the state provided a job for everyone. The job you wanted to have. For 3 years the state was helping. There was stability. I mean that after college you didn't worry about where to go. You always had a job with a good salary and accommodation. As a young specialist, you were provided with it for 3 years. They gave you an accommodation and a job. It was a state guarantee, now there's no such a thing.

– What else was good?

– There was a feeling that the country was huge and united. This phrase «15 republics, 15 sisters». It was patriotism, it was love to the motherland. And now we'll talk about minuses.

Родиной российского футбола считается небольшой городок Орехово-Зуево, где в конце 19 века появилась первая команда.

С тех пор прошло много времени, и футбол стал любимой игрой россиян. Сегодня самые известные клубы – это Спартак, Зенит, ЦСКА, Локомотив и Динамо.

Сборная России, к сожалению, не может похвастаться достойными результатами. По состоянию на 15 февраля 2018 года сборная России в рейтинге ФИФА занимает только 61-е место. Лучший результат команда показала в 2008 году на чемпионате Европы. Россия вместе с Турцией заняла тогда третье место.

The homeland of Russian football is a small town Orekhovo-Zuevo, where in the late 19th century the first team appeared.

Since then, a lot of time has passed, and football has become a favorite game for Russians. Today the most famous clubs are Spartak, Zenit, CSKA, Lokomotiv and Dynamo.

The Russian National team, unfortunately, can not boast of worthy results. As of February 15, 2018, the Russian team in the FIFA ranking takes only 61 place. The best result was shown by the team in 2008 at the European Championships. Russia took third place together with Turkey.

Today I want to talk about Russian cartoons that I like. In childhood my favorite cartoon was "Prostokvashino". I used to dream of living in a village house all by myself, too.

I also liked the Soviet version of Winnie the Pooh much more than the Disney version.

I do not really like modern cartoons, because they are not so sincere. But the quality has become much better; it's a fact. For example, today the cartoons from the series "Three heroes" are very popular.

Russian literature is loved all over the world. Today we will talk about several Russian writers of the 19th century.

Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin was not only a poet, but also a playwrite and a prose writer. At school we study his works Dubrovsky and The Captain's Daughter.

Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky was a Russian writer and philosopher of the 19th century. His most famous novels are Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Brothers Karamazov, Demons.

Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy was one of the greatest writers in the world. Novels War and Peace and Anna Karenina are included as two of the treasures of world literature.

Школьное образование в России состоит из начального, среднего и высшего. Сегодня мы поговорим о начальной школе. Она длится 4 года.

Дети идут в первый класс в возрасте 6-7 лет. Задача начальной школы – дать минимальный базовый набор знаний: чтение, письмо, элементарная математика. Кроме того, дети занимаются музыкой, физкультурой, рисованием.

Во втором классе дети начинают учить иностранный язык.

(обычно это английский, иногда немецкий или французский).

У каждого класса есть свой учитель, который ведёт почти все предметы. Количество уроков обычно не больше 4-5 в день.

Обучение в школе в России бесплатное для всех. Родителям нужно купить только учебники.

School education in Russia consists of elementary, middle and high school. Today we're going to talk about the elementary school. It lasts for 4 years.

Kids go to the first grade at the age of 6 or 7. The main task of elementary school is to provide the minimum basic set of knowledge: reading, writing, elementary maths. In addition, children are engaged in music, physical education, drawing.

In the 2nd grade children start to learn a foreign language. Usually it's English and sometimes it's German or French.

Each class has its own teacher who teaches almost all the subjects. The amount of lessons per day is no more that 4-5.

School education in Russia is free for everyone. Parents have to buy only textbooks.

Здравствуйте! Меня зовут Даша. Мне 28 (двадцать восемь) лет. Я родилась 23 (двадцать третьего) декабря 1988 (тысяча девятьсот восемьдесят восьмого) года. Я родилась в городе Самара. Это город на реке Волге. Потом я жила в Омске (это город в Сибири), потом я жила в Санкт-Петербурге, и теперь уже 10 (десять) лет я живу в Москве. И я очень люблю этот город.

По профессии я учитель русского языка. Я учу иностранцев русскому языку. А еще я историк. Я изучаю историю России. И очень люблю историю России. Это невероятно интересный предмет.

У меня есть семья. Мой муж Алексей работает юристом. Он юрист. И у нас есть сын Роман. Роману 3 года. В сентябре он пойдет в детский сад.

Какое у меня хобби? В свободное время я люблю читать. Мой любимый русский писатель – Федор Достоевский. Я очень люблю его книгу «Идиот». Еще я люблю книги Ги де Мопассана, особенно «Жизнь» и «Милый друг». Еще один мой любимый писатель – Толкиен. Я люблю книгу «Властелин колец», именно книгу, фильм мне не понравился. И если говорить о фильмах, то я очень люблю старые советские фильмы, особенно наши комедии.

Скорая помощь в России бесплатна для всех. Обычно бригада приезжает довольно быстро, но иногда приходится ждать очень долго.

Пожарные занимаются не только борьбой с огнем, но и профилактикой. Они проводят беседы и лекции в различных организациях.

Полиция в России до 2011 года называлась «милиция». Они отвечают за соблюдение порядка и борются с преступностью.

Первого мая мы отмечаем Международный день труда. Он стал важнейшим праздником в Советском Союзе, его отмечали парадами и демонстрациями в центрах крупных городов. Самое масштабное празднование традиционно организовывали на Красной площади. Сегодня Первое мая утратило своё политическое значение. Это просто праздник весны, хорошего настроения и радости. Конечно, до сих пор проходят демонстрации, но чаще люди выходят гулять в городские парки, выезжают на природу жарить шашлыки и просто хорошо проводить время.

Translation On May 1st, we celebrate International Workers' Day. It was a very important holiday of the Soviet Union, celebrated with parades and demonstrations in the centre of the major cities. The biggest celebration was traditionally organised in Red Square. Today May Day has lost its political meaning. It's just a holiday of spring, good mood and joy. Of course they still organise demonstrations, but more often people go to city parks, go out to enjoy nature and have some barbecue, and just have a good time.

Usually we call it simply Peter. Founded by Peter the Great in 1703, this city became a capital of the Russian Empire for more than 200 years. Today Petersburg is considered the most beautiful city in Russia. Its wonderful palaces, fortresses, cathedrals impress everyone who comes there. Besides that, Peter is world famous with so called «white nights». They last from the end of May till the beginning of July. It's is the best time for visiting this wonderful place.

This short text is about Russian Maslenitsa. I love this holiday!

В русской культуре до сих пор остались некоторые языческие праздники. Масленица – один из них. Этот праздник символизирует начало весны.

Как мы отмечаем Масленицу? Я, например, пеку блины. Рецепт очень простой. Нужно только молоко, вода, мука, яйца, сахар и соль. В масленичную неделю блины – самый вкусный завтрак.

Do you know what Siberia is?

Это может показаться странным, но даже многие россияне не понимают, что такое Сибирь. Обычно под Сибирью понимается область Российской Федерации в северо-восточной части Евразии. Это огромная территория от Уральских гор до Дальнего Востока.

История Сибири очень интересна. В состав России она была включена в 16 веке. Долгое время Сибирь была местом ссылки преступников. Например, писатель Достоевский провёл там несколько лет.

Сегодня Сибирь – огромный современный регион. Самые крупные города – это Новосибирск, Омск, Красноярск. Кроме того, именно в Сибири находится всемирно известное озеро Байкал.

It's time to talk about Christmas in Russia:

Рождество в России

После революции 1917 года Рождество в России было запрещено как религиозный праздник. И только после 1991 года люди снова смогли отмечать его. Но до сих пор это более скромный праздник в России по сравнению с шумным Новым годом.

Перед Рождеством идет Сочельник, который означает начало старого славянского праздника под названием Святки. В этот день молодые девушки использовали зеркало и свечи, чтобы призвать образ своего будущего мужа. Традиция святочных гаданий снова набирает популярность в России.

Люди в России отмечают Рождество посещением рождественской службы и семейным обедом с родственниками.

It's time to talk about this wonderful holiday!

Я очень люблю Новый год с детства и всегда с особой радостью жду его. Ощущение праздника появляется ещё с первым снегом. Потом город украшают нарядными ёлками, огнями и гирляндами.

Больше всего я люблю отмечать Новый год дома, в кругу семьи. По телевизору весь день показывают новогодние фильмы («Ирония судьбы», «Девчата» и другие). Утром мы ходим гулять в парк, а потом начинаем готовить праздничные блюда. Традиционный новогодний стол состоит из: закусок с красной икрой, салатов «Оливье», «Сельдь под шубой», какого-нибудь горячего блюда. Обязательно шампанское.

В 11 вечера мы садимся за стол провожать старый год. В 11.55 по всем каналам транслируется обращение президента, в полночь бьют куранты и звучит гимн. Все поздравляют друг друга с новым годом и обмениваются подарками.

Система образования в России состоит из нескольких ступеней: детский сад, школа, колледж или университет, аспирантура. Детей в России начинают учить довольно рано. В возрасте 1,5 лет ребёнок может начать посещать детский сад, если есть свободные места. Обычно малыши идут в садик в 3 года, начиная с сентября. Данная ступень не является обязательной, но если родители заняты на работе, это неплохой вариант. Дети учатся общаться друг с другом и готовятся писать и читать. После садика, в возрасте 7 лет дети идут в школу. Русская школа делится на начальную (с 1 по 4 классы), среднюю (с 5 по 9 классы) и старшую (с 10 по 11 класс). Школа считается обязательной для посещения, за исключением последних классов. После школы дети обычно поступают в высшие учебные заведения – ВУЗы, где получают высшее образование в течение 4-6 лет. После этого можно поступить в аспирантуру и получить учёную степень.
