Sometimes, you think you have a podcast planned and then something happens that changes everything.

On this episode of The 1970, I'm joined by my co-host, Marc Damon, to discuss the latest Paris Saint-Germain transfer news, however, all of that got pushed to the side after Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed during a UEFA European Championship match against Finland due to an apparent heart attack. It was a scary scene that could have been even worse if not for the life-saving efforts from his teammates and doctors.

We react to the decision to continue the match after Eriksen's collapse and the coverage of the incident in which broadcasters continued to show the Inter Milan player receive life-saving treatment on the pitch.

Marc and I then attempt to transition to PSG and the transfer window that is now officially open. Earlier this week, the club officially signed Georginio Wijnaldum and we discuss what the former Liverpool FC midfielder will bring to Les Parisiens. Wijnaldum was heavily recruited by FC Barcelona and I ask Marc about his tweet in which he declared PSG as the alpha club.

The signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma isn't official, but all reports indicate that it's just a matter of time until one of the best young goalkeepers in the world signs for PSG. What does his arrival mean for Keylor Navas and why would PSG make this move when other positions need to be addressed?

We also discuss Kylian Mbappé's contract situation with Marc asking why the France international is holding PSG to such high standards when it comes to building a team around him while Real Madrid, for example, has been pretty stagnant in recent months.

We conclude the show with a conversation about beIN Sports, who hold the U.S. rights to Ligue 1. They recently sold their rights to La Liga to ESPN, and we speculate what they might do with Ligue 1 ahead of the 2021-22 season.

On the latest 1970 podcast, I'm joined by my co-host Marc Damon and we discuss all of the latest news regarding PSG. It's the perfect companion to get you through the international lulz...

Paris Saint-Germain reached the UEFA Champions League final last season but knocking FC Barcelona out in the Round of 16this season might be their most important win in the club's history of the tournament.

On this episode of The 1970, Marc Damon and I sit down to reflect on PSG's 1-1 draw against Barcelona last Wednesday and the tie itself, which PSG won by a margin of 5-2.

For years, PSG has bought pricey superstars in order to fast-track their status as a "big club" only to come up short in the Champions League when matched against historically great sides like Real Madrid and Barcelona. This year, though, PSG kept their composure against a squad that wrecked them emotionally four years ago and they have Keylor Navas to thank primarily.

We spend the majority of the show breaking down the biggest moments of the game, including Navas' penalty save on Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembélé failures in front of goal, and Mauricio Pochettino's timely substitutions of Abdou Diallo and Angel Di Maria that changed the game for PSG.

With Les Parisiens through to the next round, Marc and I look ahead as the tastiest quarter-final matchups. Do we want to see Thomas Tuchel and Thiago Silva at Chelsea FC, or is a rematch against FC Bayern Munich in the cards? For the second time in four years, Paris Saint-Germain holds a significant lead over FC Barcelona in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League heading into the second match. All they have to do is hold on.

On this episode of The 1970, I'm joined by my co-host, Marc Damon, and we spend about 30 minutes or so previewing the big match between PSG and Barcelona at the Parc des Princes with Les Parisiens holding a 4-1 advantage over their European rivals.

The show begins with our overall feelings on the final match of the tie and whether the potential is there for another catastrophic collapse like we saw in 2017 when PSG blew a 4-0 lead. In fact, PSG's last two managers (Unai Emery and Thomas Tuchel) have blown leads in the Champions League in spectacular fashion, will Mauricio Pochettino reverse the curse?

Next, we discuss the situation with Neymar Jr., who will not be in the squad to face his former team. The PSG superstar has returned to light training but isn't 100 percent healthy. Should PSG at least have Neymar on the bench to gain a psychological advantage or are they doing the right thing saving him for an intense run of matches in Ligue 1 and the quarter-finals of the Champions League if they advance?

Marc and I agree that the more boring the match is, the better things will be for PSG. If there is a red card decision against PSG and penalty decisions that favor Barcelona, things could go downhill very quickly. Make no mistake about it though, Barcelona's strategy will be to fall down in the box to deceive the referee and it will be up to PSG to play smart, fundamental football and not let Ronald Koeman's men get under their skin.

To conclude the show, we give our predictions and look around at the rest of the Champions League competition.

Since the 6-1 loss to FC Barcelona in 2017, Paris Saint-Germain set out to build a squad capable of competing with the Spanish giants in the UEFA Champions League. They took Neymar Jr. from them and added Kylian Mbappé. They also added role players like Leandro Paredes and Moise Kean who would compliment their superstars.

On February 16, PSG went to the Camp Nou for a rematch in the Round of 16 of the Champions League and proceeded to dominate Barcelona by a score of 4-1. PSG's superior talent was on display and on the latest 1970 podcast, we discuss how Mauricio Pochettino led his team to one of the most famous victories in club history.

Joining me on the show as always is Marc Damon and we begin by sharing our overall thoughts on the match. The scoreline and performance were a surprise due to the simple fact that Neymar was out injured and he had become intricate to PSG's offense. He is the player who unlocks defenses and allows Kylian Mbappé to be special. Without the Brazilian, all eyes were on Mbappé, and boy did he deliver by scoring a hat-trick.

When it comes to talent, we agree that PSG probably isn't quite at the level of Manchester City and FC Bayern Munich depth-wise, but Les Parisiens have two of the top five players in the world and no one else can say that. With Pochettino now at the helm, if he can continue to get the most out of Idrissa Gueye, Julian Draxler, Layvin Kurzawa, and others, PSG could be a team no one wants to face in the latter stages of the Champions League.

In terms of the game itself, we talk about the ridiculous penalty decision given to Barcelona when Frenkie de Jong went down in the box after inadvertent contact with Kurzawa. I think the call was egregious while Marc believes while unfortunate, the decision was correct.

Later in the show, we discuss whether Neymar should play in the return leg if he's not fully healthy and what PSG's mindset should be heading into that match. You'll also hear us talk about the passing of Paredes and Kean's incredible form since arriving via loan from Everton.

In just a few days, Paris Saint-Germain will have the opportunity to get revenge on the club that embarrassed them three seasons ago in the UEFA Champions League.

On this episode of The 1970, recorded during Saturday's 2-1 win over OGC Nice, I'm joined by my co-host, Marc Damon, to preview the upcoming tie against FC Barcelona in the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

The last time these two sides met was during the Round of 16 of the 2016-17 Champions League. PSG won the first leg 4-0 at the Parc des Princes but went on to lose 6-1 in the return leg at the Camp Nou. Neymar Jr. suited up for the Catalan club at the time but left the following summer for PSG in a world-record transfer.

Unfortunately, Neymar won't be available for PSG when they return to the Camp Nou on February 16. The superstar was injured last Wednesday in the Coupe de France against Ligue 2 side Stade Malherbe Caen. On the podcast, I express my frustration with that reality and question why Neymar was even in the lineup.

We also look back to that 6-1 defeat in 2017 and debate whether that PSG squad is better than the one that will walk out on the pitch this Tuesday.

Later in the show, we discuss what kind of tactics Mauricio Pochettino should deploy against Barcelona. Should he set up his side to play conservatively or more attack-minded? The Trophée des Champions was played a few months later than usual but it was the same outcome as always with Paris Saint-Germain lifting the trophy for the eighth consecutive season with a 2-1 win over rivals Olympique de Marseille.

Paris Saint-Germain's match against Manchester United on Tuesday night was supposed to be a chance at redemption. The Red Devils eliminated PSG from the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and their return to the Parc des Princes was a chance for Les Parisiens to prove that result was a fluke. Unfortunately, that didn't happen.

On this episode of The 1970, I'm joined as always by Marc Damon and we give our instant reaction to discuss PSG's frustrating 2-1 loss United and discuss who is to blame.

According to my followers on Twitter, most PSG supporters believe manager, Thomas Tuchel is to blame for the loss to the Premier League side and Marc and I agree but for different reasons.

Marc believes Tuchel's inability to create a system in which Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr. can thrive is a fireable offense. While I tend to agree with him, I think Leonardo, PSG's sporting director, should make a change to inject some optimism into the squad and supporters. It worked for FC Bayern Munich last season as they won the Champions League over PSG.

Tuchel may keep his job for a couple of more weeks. PSG host Dijon FCO on October 24, and then travel to Turkey to play Istanbul Başakşehir F.K. That's a game PSG should win comfortably but if things go south, it's hard to imagine Tuchel continuing with PSG and the club's future in the Champions League this season would very much be in the balance.

After a rough start to the Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain has bounced back and strung together four straight wins. Despite the positive results on the pitch, there's plenty of drama swirling behind the scenes.

On this episode of The 1970, which was recorded during PSG's 6-1 win over Angers SCO at the Parc des Princes last Friday, Marc and Ed examine the current squad and how being so reliant on Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr. to score goals can be a bad thing. Has manager Thomas Tuchel become lazy in coming up with his gameplan, especially in Ligue 1 play, because he has two of the top five players in the world?

We do know that Tuchel doesn't believe his team is as strong as last season and his recent comments about that have not gone down well with Leonardo, PSG's sporting director. With the transfer window coming to a close on Monday, Les Parisiens are running out of time to make the important signings that will help them return to the UEFA Champions League final.

Before the Champions League final, PSG must go through the group stage and after last week's draw, we now know that Tuchel will lead his team against Manchester United, RB Leipzig, and İstanbul Başakşehir. The two games against Manchester United should be very interesting considering Angel Di Maria's history with the Red Devils and the report that Edinson Cavani could soon suit up for Premier League club.

Any time Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille get together on a football pitch, there's bound to be fireworks but last weekend, the latest installment of Le Classique crossed the line in more ways than one.

Marseille's 1-0 win over PSG at the Parc des Princes was their first win over their rivals in league play since November 2011. The match was brutal to watch and included 10 yellow cards and five red cards. Referee Jerome Brisard lost complete control and towards the end of the match, there was a brawl, an accusation of racism, and a video that appears to show Angel Di Maria spitting towards an OM player.

On the latest episode of The 1970, I'm joined by Marc Damon and we try to sift through the fallout and make sense of it all. The loss to Marseille was PSG's second consecutive loss to start the 2020-21 Ligue 1 season and the lack of goals has us wondering if Thomas Tuchel's tenure in the French capital is coming to an end.

We also give our thoughts on Neymar's allegation that he was racially abused by Marseille's Álvaro González. There's no video evidence as of yet to confirm Neymar's allegation but considering how upset he was and the fact he went to an official right away, I'm inclined to believe him.

The episode concludes with us discussing if there should be fans at the Orange Vélodrome when PSG visits Marseille on February 7, 2021, or if it's too dangerous for the visiting players. We also give new signing Alessandro Florenzi some shine as his debut exceeded expectations and he proved he is a right-back who can put a decent cross into the box.

Sometimes you need some time to properly reflect on a major event and that's exactly what Marc Damon and I did following Paris Saint-Germain's 1-0 defeat to FC Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League final.

You can listen to the PSG Talking podcast for an instant reaction to the loss but on The 1970, we dissect what went wrong for PSG at the Estádio da Luz on August 23. Paris Saint-Germain booked their ticket to the UEFA Champions League final on Wednesday with an emphatic 3-0 win over RB Leipzig at the Estádio da Luz.

It's the first time Les Parisiens have reached the final of the prestigious tournament in their 50-year history and fans celebrated around the world after the final whistle as did the PSG Talk crew. However, there's business to attend to and we're pleased to bring you a 1970 podcast.

On this episode, Marc Damon is joined by fellow contributor Ty and the duo break down the win over Leipzig and explain how PSG made it look so easy. It's been a long time coming for supporters and finally, with all the chips on the table, PSG elevated their play and Leipzig didn't even look like they belonged on the same pitch.

No discussion of this match would be complete without giving Angel Di Maria his credit. The winger was suspended against Atalanta in the quarter-finals but he returned to the squad and was the Man of the Match.

The podcast was recorded prior to the FC Bayern Munich vs. Olympique Lyonnais match but the crew rightly assumed the Germans would advance and they provide some thoughts on the final matchup and while Juan Bernat, in particular, will be up for this match. They also discuss whether or not Mauro Icardi should return to the starting lineup or if his limitations are too risky against a club like Bayern that did defeat FC Barcelona 8-2.

Before that match though, let's just enjoy this feeling of reaching the Champions League final. There's a lot of PSG fans out there that have been following the club for a long time and never thought they would be in this final. The return of the UEFA Champions League is finally here but before we can focus on Paris Saint-Germain's matchup against Atalanta, there's plenty to discuss from the club's two domestic cup victories and exhibition match against Sochaux.

On this episode of The 1970 (recorded on August 6, 2020), Marc Damon is joined by fellow PSG Talk contributor, Ty! The conversation begins with that match against Ligue 2's Sochaux and the appearance of Xavi Simons, Kays Ruiz-Atil, and other youngsters who will look to replace the recently departed Tanguy Kouassi and Adil Aouchiche.

As always with PSG, the squad has suffered several injuries to key players that make the Champions League quarter-final match against Atalanta a lot more difficult. Kylian Mbappé went down with an ankle injury against AS Saint-Étienne in the Coupe de France final and Marco Verratti reportedly picked up an injury in training before the match against Sochaux.

Despite manager Thomas Tuchel lowering expectations due to the injuries, fans still expect the squad to compete and advance. How Les Parisiens can pull that off is a different story. Tuchel has to decide on a formation that can slow down the high-scoring squad from Serie A. He will be without Verratti and Angel Di Maria due to a suspension. Paris Saint-Germain last played a UEFA Champions League match on March 11, when they advanced to the quarter-finals with a win over Borussia Dortmund. Nearly four months later, we now know who they will play in the next round.

On this episode of The 1970 podcast, I'm joined by Marc Damon and we discuss the Champions League quarter-final and semi-final draw that took place on Friday.

Up first for PSG will be Atalanta and if they advance past the red-hot Serie A club, PSG will take on the winner of RB Leipzig vs. Atlético Madrid for a place in the Champions League final.

It's by far the easier of the two brackets but don't dare say that out loud or you'll be put in your place by the Serie A aficionados on Twitter who talk about Atalanta like they're the Boogeyman and PSG is just some pub team comprised of overweight plumbers.

Considering their resources, Atalanta has outperformed everyone's expectations this season and their style of play is entertaining to watch. However, as Marc and I explain, they're no match for PSG's much more talented squad and it will take a series of mental mistakes for Les Parisiens to crash out at this stage.

We share our ideal starting lineups for the Atalanta fixture and whether the three scheduled friendlies and two domestic cup finals will be enough to properly prepare PSG for the Champions League after such a long layoff due to the coronavirus.

Four of the top five leagues in Europe have all resumed the 2019-20 season, but that hasn't stopped Paris Saint-Germain from making headlines despite not having any games to play due to the premature cancellation of Ligue 1.

The last time you heard from The 1970 crew was last March when Paris Saint-Germain defeated Borussia Dortmund to reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Since then, that competition has been suspended and Ligue 1 has been shut down completely due to the coronavirus. Despite the lack of matches, there's still plenty to discuss when it comes to the capital club, and joining me as always to break it all down is Marc Damon.

On this episode, Marc Damon and I reflect on the decision to cancel the Ligue 1 season now that we know the other four top leagues in Europe will complete the 2019-20 season.

We then look ahead at what the next few months look like for PSG as they'll face a long layoff with the Coupe de France final, Coupe de la Ligue final, and Champions League knockout stage to play in August most likely.
