An abject performance against Atalanta, on a night when Anfield pageantry was already in short supply, left the Reds' Europa League hopes in tatters ahead of next week's second leg in Italy. Another game where the Reds completely battered a sorry Manchester United side, but criminally failed to win. The Reds returned to thePremier League summit after goals from Diaz and Salah erased an early setback to see off a tricky Brighton side. Honours even after a pulsating clash at Anfield. What a day! The Reds secured a tenth League Cup with a dramatic extra time win over Chelsea at Wembley to keep us on course for a glorious end to the Jurgen Klopp era. A true captain's goal from Virg averted the drama of a shoot out, following another topsy turvy final in which fortune favoured the brave. However, it was the Reds Academy graduates rising to the occasion against the billion dolla blues that will live long in the memory. Luton Town were caught in a second half whirlwind as the Reds overcame a half time deficit to blow away the plucky Hatters. Goals from Van Dijk, Gakpo, Diaz and Elliott completed a terrific turnaround that Jurgen Klopp compared to *checks notes* erm, the win over Barcelona. A big win that looks to have come at something of a cost. A deserved defeat and a self inflicted one, as the Reds didn't make the most of a lifeline given to them just before half time and proceeded to hand Arsenal the points with some calamitous defending. A fitting way to end a season of disappointment, as despite leading 2-0 the Reds were held to a 4-4 by an already relegated Southampton side. Jota scored twice, Gakpo also found the net and Bobby signed off with a goal on his farewell appearance, but defensively it was a horror show and Kelleher didn't make the most of a rare starting opportunity in goal. It was an uneventful, uninspiring night under the lights at Selhurst Park as the Reds were held to a 0-0 draw by Palace. The result itself isn't too bad but it's hard to feel anything other than disappointed by the nature of the performance. Another abysmal away day for the Reds. Three goals conceded for the third Premier League away fixture in a row and a third blank in four games for the attackers. Just miserable stuff. Another goal for Darwin, another record for Mo and a good solid 2-0 win for the Reds to avenge their defeat in the opening match of the group.
