This week on the show is American politician, writer, performance artist, poet, & transgender activist, Andrea Jenkins. She was the first black openly transgender woman elected to public office in the United States, serving since January 2018 on the Minneapolis City Council, & as the council's president, since January 2022.⁠

Ryan is a queer, non-binary filmmaker, screenwriter and actor. They were born and raised in El Paso, Texas, but currently reside in Las Cruces, New Mexico. 

Rox (@imryanrox) developed their passion for filmmaking after working as an actor on multiple independent, short films. After witnessing film crews in action and learning firsthand on set, they had the notion in 2020 to write and produce their own short film, which resulted in their directorial debut - 2021’s “Crawl.” 

Since then, Rox has written and directed three additional short films: “Quiet Hours;” the 2022 El Paso Plaza Classic Local Flavor 2nd Place Winner, "That Tingling Sensation;" and the 2022 Femme Frontera Grant Recipient and Official Selection, "Shipping Them." They're also currently in production for their first feature film, Hidden Flora, and will continue to work as a filmmaker in support of their own and others' projects. Their primary focus is on telling queer stories from a queer perspective.

This week on the show is Angela aka Mama Pistachio. Angela is a self proclaimed nerd, demi-girl, and avid role player, has always been passionate about creating a safe space for diverse populations including LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent folks. This week’s episode features Kari-Aidyn, a beloved member of The Transverse family that we lost in August of 2024 to heart disease complications.

Kari-Aidyn was a long time family member of The Transverse. She started out as a fan and supporter of The Transgender Show, then became a mod on the Twitch channel and Discord server, then became the producer for the Transverse News show. 

She was always kind, goofy, and offered to help whenever and wherever she could.

Ryan Cassata (he/him) is an award-winning singer-songwriter, actor, performer, published writer, LGBTQ+ activist, and transgender motivational speaker. Ryan's music and story has been showcased on The Larry King Live Show, The Tyra Banks Show, CNN, GRAMMY.com, Rolling Stone, Billboard, The New York Times, Newsweek, and The NY Daily News. Ryan has been at the forefront of the transgender liberation movement since his early teens, appearing on the Larry King Live Show at 15 years old, the Tyra Banks Show at 17 years old, and speaking at schools and conferences to educate people on the importance of diversity and equality. He has a Masters of Art in Social Transformation (MAST) from the Pacific School of Religion and was honored with the prestigious 2023 Marcella Althaus-Reid Award for his efforts in queering theology and his work for the Transgender Liberation Movement.

Ruth E. Macy and Courtney Naliboff are the co-authors of Your Postpartum Body, the first book for people of all gender identities and childbirth experiences to fully address the phisical experience AFTER pregnancy. 

Both are passionate about education, inclusion, and allyship. They saw that the physical changes and challenges people face postpartum were not being discussed and people were often left on their own to just figure it all out. They also recognized that people who are not parents postpartum or who suffered loss during or post pregnancy are often left out of the conversation. So, they wrote this book to include not only all
gender identity experiences, but also the wide variety of pregnancy experiences, to create a book that is helpful, informative, and inclusive. 

As a Transition Mentor, Wendy Cole uses her life experiences to help clients face the significant life changes that come with gender transition. Since 2017, Wendy has guided others through this process. She believes in the mind’s powers; she practices mindfulness, shifting her beliefs and energy to support herself going forward, making profound changes in her life, health, and finding joy in being.

At age 67, Wendy changed her life with her transition. Beginning in January 2015 she focused internally: finally accepting who she really was, confronting fears, doubts, and anxieties that held her back for decades. She took the leap of faith to find freedom and joy in being herself. By July 2015, Wendy was living as a woman. She had her long-awaited surgery at NYU Medical in 2017. 

Wendy’s philosophy is that focusing inwardly to find freedom and joy will benefit the rest of your life.

Krystal is a woman of many talents. She is a dedicated Field Service Technician with a diverse educational background. She holds qualifications in Aircraft Maintenance, both in civilian and military fields, and graduated in the top 5 of her class from an LPN Nursing program. 

Currently, Krystal is expanding her horizons by studying Animation and Video Game Design in college. She is a proud parent of two teenagers and has been in a loving marriage for 14 years. 

This week on the show, Emily speaks with the authors of Gender Without Identity.

Ann Pellegrini and Avgi Saketopoulou are psychoanalysts who have focused their attention on gender and sexual identity. In their work, they have found the notion of a “core gender identity” or the “born this way” argument too simplistic and even problematic. All genders and sexualities, they argue, whether queer, straight, trans, nonbinary, or cis, are the result of complex psychic and social processes.

Their controversial take is that no one’s gender or sexuality is innate. 

Pellegrini and Saketopoulou assert that developmental events, even traumas, play an important role in all this. But to say that trauma may sometimes have a share in becoming trans or becoming queer does not mean trans or queer people are “broken.” Rather, they argue that trauma can function as an engine for transformation and growth.

This week's guest is Jasmine Vine, a 25 year old transgender woman from Adelaide, South Australia and host of the Trans Boss Podcast. Her story is one of great hardship including bullying, domestic violence, serious mental illness, and both parents dying by 21, yet she's overcome it all to become a powerhouse inspiration to her thousands of followers.

Suicidal from age 7 and being diagnosed with all sorts of things including bipolar type 1 which landed her in the psych ward at 17, she now owns her Javine, a company that helps transgender people feminize their voices and helps  people recover from trauma and develop an empowered mindset so they can feel more hopeful, confident, comfortable, and safe.

Tuesday night, Emily welcomes Toni Leslie to The Transgender Show. She's a Native American transgender female writer and artist From upstate New York. Her many past jobs have included professional photographer, contractor, pilot, radio station DJ, and photo collage artist. 

Toni is currently working as a peer recovery coach in addiction and working on a memoir describing her life and transition.

Dean FM (Dean-Fraser Milford) is a Boston Massachusetts based non-binary rapper, activist and influencer. His music encapsulates eclectic thoughts that scat over percussive rhythms and exotic sounds. His performances exude drag culture and satiric expression. In 2016, Dean released his debut EP “Watch It”, which received local and national coverage. In 2020, Dean FM released his EP entitled “SISSY.” The music video for his lead single “Bottom Bit” shines a light on the exploitation of prostitution.

Dean FM stands for compassion, courage, and equality. In his activism, he supports the awareness and acceptance of gender neutrality. He refuses to deny his true identity — identifying himself with both he and her pronouns. Dean also advocates for the awareness of minority mental health and the prevention of animal abuse. As an influencer, Dean utilizes his platforms to further promote his art and advocacy work.

Amethysta Herrick, Ph.D. is a writer, podcaster, and activist.  Her works focuses on the origin and nature of identity, especially gender.  Ami has been a geneticist, a chemist, a software engineer, and a manager, but her greatest challenge to date is taking on the entrenched fallacy that identity and gender are only of concern to the LGBTQ community.  Instead, she teaches that identity is an ongoing process every human engages in throughout life.  In her spare time, Ami speaks about the scientific definitions of both sex and gender.

Kalie is an ordained pastor in Georgia and an advocate for LGBTQIA+ inclusion in religious institutions. She has a passion for building community and supporting and protecting the rights of individuals. She was dismissed from her seminary after being outed as trans. She joined the lawsuit challenging religious exemptions in Title IX in order to stop religious institutions from discriminating against LGBTQIA+ students while receiving federal funding.

 Corey is a transgender man who began his gender journey 21 years ago at the age of 25. Since then, he's lived mostly in stealth and integrated into male culture undetected. He worked as an automotive mechanic for 10 years before beginning his spiritual journey on the Appalachian Trail in 2011. That adventure taught him a lot about true strength and being comfortable in uncomfortable situations. 

He's been happily married for 10 years with 2 beautiful daughters who accept him as their father. Corey believes life is what you make of it and has made it his life's work to evolve and manifest himself into a superhuman.

Van is a queer, non-binary, socialized as female, autistic, trans person dedicated to social justice. They are dually licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist and a Professional Clinical Counselor. Van is passionate about holding space for all intersections of one’s identity(ies). Van aims to use a trauma informed lens to help folks learn ways to help support themselves in the best way possible. Van is author of the interactive book Exploring My Identities and produced a Documentary called Do Something: Trans & Non Binary Identities which we’ll be screening here on The Transverse on Thursday night. Their next project is hosting an international conference called Do Something: Identity(ies) (2022).

Justice Renée, born trans-female, was raised in a Fundamentalist Evangelical Home.  Her father was a leader in the Young Earth/Creation Science movement in Utah and surrounding states through the 1980s and 90s.  She was taught through shame to hate her trans identity.  In her preteens, Justice dedicated her life to Jesus and began ministry work with her church, AWANA, and CEF and gave her first evangelistic message at 13.  She went on to get Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies with a Missions Emphasis from Frontier School of the Bible, was Youth Pastor in Nebraska, worked at Christian Camps, and a CrossWorld Missions Candidate preparing for missions in Thailand.  

In 2009, responding to the Housing Crisis, she founded “Tears of the Patriots”, a Tea Party Group connected with Libertarian and Christian Nationalism.  Due to a myriad of reasons, Justice Renée re-examined her belief system over a period of 7 years ending with leaving the church.  

She opened to her partner about her gender issues in 2019 and transitioned in 2020.Currently, Justice Renée works as a Systems Engineer at Target, helps amplify diverse voices through Secular North Productions, and raises her two kids and her partner. She shares her story with others to give hope and move communities forward through the “Din of Conversation”.  She found freedom in acceptance and a path forward from the hate. 

Stepping out from behind the camera, Justice Renée has opened up in a more public way to build connections with others and amplify the "Din of Conversation". 

Currently, Justice Renée works as a Systems Engineer at Target, helps amplify diverse voices through Secular North Productions, and raises her two kids and her partner. She shares her story with others to give hope and move communities forward through the “Din of Conversation”.  She found freedom in acceptance and a path forward from the hate. 

A New Jersey native, Shannon is a graduate of Rutgers University, with a concentration in Historic Preservation and Political Science. She is a digital creator with content focusing on gender, race, and social justice. With her wife Rachel she co-hosts the podcast 'Our Life In Transition'. Laser Malena-Webber is musician and writer — known for their nerdy folk-pop band the Doubleclicks. The Doubleclicks sing about dinosaurs, cats, and queer feelngs. Laser's latest project is the musical Teaching a Robot to Love, which just debuted on the Billboard Cast Albums chart. Teaching A Robot To Love is a story about change, acceptance, queer experiences, and also robots.

This week on The Transgender Show, Emily welcomes Mallery Jenna Robinson, an AfraCarribean Transwoman and transgender and HIV healthcare advocate in Los Angeles. 

From 2019-2021 Mallery worked with The LGBTQ Center Long Beach in their Transgender Health Department, responsible for case management of clients, linkage to care, PrEP and PEP services, STI screening and HIV testing. While there she implemented several successful essential programs such as: Rack and Roll (a clothes closet), Snack Shack (a food pantry), TRANSport ( an essential items delivery service), and events such as: Come OUT and Pose, ValenTrans Day, and a The T-Report Red Desk Diaries a panel for National Transgender HIV Testing Day. 

She has also presented several Transgender Empathy Trainings (TET Talks) presentations to Sony PlayStation, and Long Beach Vocal Rehab to list a few. Mallery has also spoken publicly for The Long Beach Transgender Day of Remembrance at Harvey Milk Park in November 2019 and for ALL Black Lives Matter Los Angeles and co-hosted several LGBTQ virtual award shows such as Unique Woman’s Coalition Our Honors Award. Daniel is a 37-year old working-class transgender veteran running a nonpartisan grassroots congressional campaign for California’s 38th Assembly District. He was born and raised in Maryland by a hard-working single mom. Daniel started working at 14, came out as a lesbian at 16, and graduated from high school the year after 9/11. Unable to break the poverty ceiling, Daniel joined the United States Navy at 24 and served four years supporting the troops in the Middle East. After separating from the military, Daniel married the love of his life and came out as transgender. He utilized his G.I. Bill to attend college and became the first generation in his family to earn a degree. It was this combination of his working-class upbringing, war-time military service, his transition from female to male, and the 2016 Bernie Sanders campaign that came together to ignite the political fire that drove him to get involved. He began volunteering at the polls, got hired at his local county elections office, and now he’s running for the State Assembly to fight for a better California, for all of us!

Dr. Jé Exodus Hooper (they/them) teaches Theatre History, is a doctor of the Arts and Theology, and an Ethical Humanist clergy. Both as performer and clergy within the Ethical Culture Movement and First Unitarian Society of Minneapolis, their ritual-based performance is grounded in the act of homiletics, decolonial Humanism and Black Intellectual Thought.

This week on the show is Jessica, a trans, bi, ace computer programmer by day and D&D Dungeon Master by night. 

This week on the show is Dani, she works as a manager in the male-dominated electrical sector and hosts support groups for trans teens and adults in northern California. 

Dani is a 50 year old trans woman in the middle of her second go at transition. She’s worked in the Power Distribution business for over 27 years and as a member of the IBEW (electrical workers) Union for most of that time. Coming out in her male-dominated industry meant she was the first to transition within her company as well as the union. She currently has 14 men who work under her, accept her, and support her. Before entering the electrical business, she served in the Navy as a helicopter mechanic and Search and Rescue swimmer.

Dani helps facilitate a support group for trans teens in Sacramento as well as an open adult group and was instrumental in building The Transverse Discord community (now found on Discord as Transection).

 Lieutenant Colonel Bree Fram is an active duty astronautical engineer in the US Space Force currently assigned to the Pentagon to lead space policy integration for the Department of the Air Force. Bree previously served in a wide variety of Air Force positions including a Research and Development command position and an oversight role for all Air Force security cooperation activity with Iraq. 

Bree is the President of SPARTA, an organization that advocates and educates about transgender military service and is dedicated to the support and professional development of over 1300 transgender service members. A member of SPARTA since 2014, she focuses on policy and advocacy work. Additionally, she provides educational briefings on transgender and diversity issues to military and civilian audiences. Lt Col Fram came out as transgender on the day the transgender ban in the military was dropped in 2016. She is currently the highest ranking out transgender officer in the Department of Defense. 

In earlier assignments, Lt Col Fram served in the Air Force Directorate of Strategic Plans, as a Legislative Fellow at the US Capitol on the staff of Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo, several tours as a program manager for satellite and technology programs, and deployed to Qatar and Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

Her writing has been featured in the Washington Post, Military Times, Inkstick, and LGBTQ Nation. She is the co-editor of With Honor and Integrity: Transgender Troops in Their Own Words from NYU Press which released in November 2021.
