  • 38 - Powering Ontario Without Pricing Industry Out with Brad Duguid

Ontario manufacturers are already being hit hard by tariffs. Now they face a second threat: the Association of Major Power Consumers in Ontario (AMPCO) projects that market electricity prices will rise by 165 per cent over the next three years. Brad Duguid says the stakes are existential. Without action, Ontario risks losing investment mandates, production and jobs one decision at a time. In this episode of Toronto Talks, Giles Gherson speaks with the Honourable Brad Duguid, President of AMPCO and former Ontario Minister of Energy and Economic Development. They discuss why electricity costs are rising, how nuclear refurbishment and greater reliance on natural gas are affecting the market, and what government can do to help industry through the next several years. The conversation also explores industrial carbon pricing, the case for temporary rate relief, and how Ontario can build the power system it needs without pricing employers out of the province.

  • 37 - Beyond the Toll: How 407 ETR Keeps the Toronto Region Moving, with Jose Espinosa

Most people know Highway 407 ETR as the road you pay to avoid traffic. But behind the toll is a much bigger story about how the Toronto region manages congestion, builds infrastructure and keeps people moving. In this episode, Giles Gherson sits down with Jose Espinosa, President and CEO of 407 ETR, to explore what it takes to operate a 108-kilometre highway through an Ontario winter, why pricing can help manage demand when road space is limited and what public-private partnerships can bring to major infrastructure. Drawing on more than 25 years of experience across Canada, Spain, Australia and the United States, Espinosa explains how choice lanes work, why maintaining infrastructure before it fails matters and how technology and data are changing the way highways operate.

  • 36 - Cybercrime Is About to Be the World's Third-Largest Economy: Sasha Krstic on What Business Has to Do Now

Cybercrime is on track to be a $16 trillion business by 2030. If it were a country, it would have the third-largest GDP in the world. Sasha Krstic has seen this up close. She's Chair of the Toronto Region Board of Trade. She's also the former President of Mastercard Canada, where she most recently led the company's global push into cybersecurity. Her message to Canadian business: cybersecurity isn't an IT problem anymore. It's a boardroom problem. And here's the good news, according to Sasha. Canada has everything it needs to lead the response. The talent, the institutions, the business community. What it doesn't have, she says, is the will to move from talk to action. In this episode of Toronto Talks, Sasha joins our President and CEO Giles Gherson to lay it all out.

  • 35 - Building AI-Fluent Organizations: Where AI Becomes a Superpower, with Candice Faktor

What does it actually take to build an organization that doesn't just use AI, but thinks with it? In this episode of Toronto Talks, host Jon Worren sits down with Candice Faktor, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Disco to unpack what AI fluency means and why most organizations are getting AI adoption backwards. Candice breaks down the three types of people inside every organization (catalysts, converts, and anchors), why "work that can be done by AI will be done by AI," and what changes when leaders stop treating AI as a software purchase and start treating it as a superpower their people can grow into. Recorded against the backdrop of Toronto Tech Week, the conversation also takes stock of our city's tech ecosystem nearly a decade after Toronto was first called the next big AI hub.
