A new state audit highlights problems at the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance, finding long call center waits, delayed benefit payments, and complaints that weren’t properly tracked. More than half of callers spent over 30 minutes on hold, while nearly a quarter waited more than an hour during the period examined by the audit. The DUA says it has made significant improvements since then, but the findings raise questions about how well Massachusetts is serving people who are out of work and relying on unemployment benefits. The judge questioned jurors individually today after a woman was arrested for allegedly filming them outside the courthouse, then sent them back to continue deliberating. Deliberations in the Lindsay Clancy case took a dramatic turn on Tuesday when the jury announced they were at a standstill. After four days of deliberations, the twelve jurors sent a note to the judge saying they could not reach a unanimous decision. The courtroom erupted in gasps when Judge William Sullivan declined to declare a mistrial and told them they had to go back and keep trying. The jury was dismissed without a verdict. A robot in China recently ran the 100-meter dash in 8.86 seconds, breaking Usain Bolt’s 9.58-second world record. Massachusetts Ballot Question 1, which will appear on the November 2026 ballot, would expand the state’s Public Records Law and make it easier for the public to access records from the governor’s office and Legislature. It would also establish stronger rules for obtaining those records and increase transparency in state government. State Auditor Diana DiZoglio is one of the forces behind the question, and she joined Dan to discuss what a “Yes” vote would mean.

State Sen. Nick Collins says his name was left off some ballots at a South Boston polling station, where he is facing a primary challenge from Latoya Gayle, who has Mayor Michelle Wu’s backing. Starting in January, Massachusetts drivers and other out-of-staters will pay more to use New Hampshire toll roads unless they have a New Hampshire E-ZPass. The higher rates are part of a 10-year transportation plan to bring in more money for road maintenance, and lawmakers overrode Gov. Kelly Ayotte’s veto to approve them.
