Maine voters' opinions are mixed, with some saying that Platner's personal life has no bearing on his policies, while others argue that his political mission is sincere and that is why they are supporting him.

President Donald Trump walked out of an NBC "Meet the Press" interview with Kristen Welker after she questioned him about compensation for alleged victims of government "weaponization" and challenged his claims that the California primaries and the 2020 election were "dirty" and "rigged." After a tense back-and-forth exchange, Trump said, "Let's call it quits because I've had enough," and left the set. Welker later said Trump agreed to sit down for another interview at an undisclosed time.

Brian Shortsleeve is on a mission to fix what’s broken in Massachusetts. The former head of the MBTA is running for governor of Massachusetts and is focused on fiscal reform and government efficiency. At a recent press conference, Shortsleeve said that, if elected, he would block funding for the Legislature in an effort to force compliance with Auditor Diana DiZoglio’s probe, which was overwhelmingly approved by voters in 2024. The Red Sox demoted Brayan Bello, a starting pitcher after a series of recent struggles, including the final straw Thursday when the pitcher gave up 6 runs in the first inning alone against the Orioles. Bello is being sent down to Worcester's Triple A. The pitcher has been defensive when asked about his struggles and told reporters that he is not interested in working through his struggles in Triple-A Worcester saying, "I’m thinking about making my adjustments in the big leagues…I have a big-league contract, that doesn’t mean the bosses will take a position or not, taking that into consideration, but I’m a big leaguer...and I’ll make my adjustments here.”

The Trump Administration's National Park Service plans to remove three quotes from the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown. The quotes being removed include comments on slavery, war, and immigrants. The removal of the three quotes comes just ahead of the 251st anniversary of the monument on June 17th. Is the removal at all warranted or a clear depiction of censorship of American history? Sen. Do the risks far outweigh the benefits? We periodically see local news stories about a missing hiker in the woods or a local resident who got lost or worst-case scenario, died while hiking in the woods of NH, Maine, or MA. The last local story we saw was roughly a month ago of a West Roxbury man who was found dead 5 miles from his car up in Franconia Notch NH after seemingly getting lost hiking and unable to find his way back. With that being said, we ask, what’s so great about hiking? Some say it's the views that are worth it or immersing yourself in nature...can't you take in the views from a nice drive through the mountains on a main road? Or how about a walk through a local garden or park, isn't that immersing yourself in nature?

On Thursday, the MA Senate voted to turn over records sought by State Auditor Diana DiZoglio as part of her audit of the chamber. However, the 33-6 vote does not mean the Senate "concedes". In a resolution note responding to the Supreme Judicial Court's order, while they voted to turn over requested documents, they “do not concede” to an audit, saying if senators believe it’s unconstitutional, that the chamber could still object to an audit from DiZoglio’s office in the “present or future.” While this is a small victory for DiZoglio, her legislative battle is still not over. In addition, this weekend the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s 2026 Nominating Convention begins. It will be held in Worcester at the DCU Center on Friday and Saturday, May 29th and 30th. State Auditor Diana DiZoglio is expected to attend as are other members of the State Legislature that Diana has been "battling" with...Were there fireworks?

The town of Rutland, Massachusetts is cancelling their 4th of July festivities this year. There were original concerns that the decision to cancel was over funding availability or in response to some community viewpoints. However, in a joint statement, the Rutland Fire & Police Department, the Rutland 4th of July Committee, and the Town of Rutland said the decision was strictly made because of public safety concerns, citing staffing shortages. A new bill is being proposed in Massachusetts by MAPLE, the MA Association for Professional Law Enforcement. The Cambridge City Council voted Monday to end the city’s use of ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection system that has drawn criticism from residents and councilors over privacy concerns and potential data sharing with federal authorities. After about 5 weeks of combat between the U.S. and Iran that started on February 28th when the United States and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran, killing its supreme leader and targeting military and government infrastructure, we now are coming to the end of a 6th week of ceasefire with Iran. In 2020, the Cambridge Memorial Drive shooter, Tyler Brown, was convicted of firing over 13 rounds from a handgun at police officers and sentenced to five to six years in state prison. Prosecutors at the time originally called for a sentence of 10-12 years. Gov. Maura Healey is criticizing the MA judge, Judge Janet Sanders, at that time a Suffolk Superior Court Judge, for the light sentence she gave Brown saying, “the judge provided a sentence that was way too low. And that’s a serious problem. There’s no way he should have been receiving that sentence. He should have received a much stiffer sentence.” Dan agrees with Gov. Healey. Earlier Wednesday morning, State Trooper Kevin Trainor, a 30-year-old officer who has served with the MA State Police for 3 years, was killed in a head on collision while trying to stop a wrong-way driver on RT 1 in Lynnfield. The wrong way driver was also killed. The State Police are remembering Trainor as a hero with State Police Colonel Geoffrey Noble, saying he's "confident that had this tragedy not occurred, there would have been countless other tragedies down the road. He will be remembered as a hero." We discussed this tragedy and the dangers our law enforcement officers face every day.
