Part Two of the Sasquatch Unleashed picks the historical trail right back up, and the encounters only get stranger. I take you to a cabin near Mount St. Helens in nineteen twenty-four, where five miners spent a night under a hail of stones from what they swore were apemen, the story that gave Ape Canyon its name.

I walk through Albert Ostman's claim that a family of these creatures carried him off in the British Columbia backcountry and held him for six days. I read you William Roe's sworn affidavit, word for word, about the day he watched a creature strip leaves from a branch with its teeth and couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger.

And I share the Ruby Creek incident, where a family came home to a fifty-five-gallon barrel of salted fish torn open and flung across the yard, told through Ivan Sanderson's own account of sitting down with them years later. From there I turn the lens away from the deep woods and onto our living rooms.

 I trace how Bigfoot went from a figure of dread to a household name, from Leonard Nimoy and In Search Of, to the robot Bigfoot on The Six Million Dollar Man, to the gentle giant of Harry and the Hendersons, and on to Finding Bigfoot and a parade of beer commercials and mattress ads. Then I ask a harder question that I've wrestled with for years. Has all that pop-culture saturation actually driven the number of reported sightings up?

I get honest about the power of suggestion, the way memory bends, and how the very shows that spread the word can also shape what people think they saw.

And then we get into the ugly side of this whole thing. The hoaxes. I lay out the Ray Wallace wooden-stomper story and why it doesn't hold up as the explanation for everything, and the spectacular collapse of the Rick Dyer Georgia hoax, the freezer, the rubber suit, and the whole circus around it. I dig into why people fake this stuff in the first place, from attention and pranks to money, belonging, the thrill of the con, and the darker pull of narcissism.

Because if we're ever going to find the truth out there, we have to be willing to name the fakes for what they are

He urges people to love their families, check on their people, and stop suffering in silence, especially when fear of ridicule keeps them from talking about something they cannot explain. Fred makes it clear that witnesses can reach out anonymously, without judgment, and that sometimes simply being heard is the first step toward making sense of what happened.The episode begins with Kathy’s unsettling account from the Kenai Peninsula in the 1990s.

What started as a strange disturbance near a neighbor’s home turned into something far more disturbing when the neighbor found his rabbits headless and neatly lined up with no visible blood. His chickens were gone, firewood had been thrown impossible distances, and a nailed board had been ripped loose and dragged away with enough force to leave him convinced that something powerful had come through the property.

The neighbor did not call it an animal. He called it a monster.Fred then shares a more recent report from Walter, Bernice, and their adult son Michael, who were traveling near the Taylor Highway close to Mosquito Fork when they encountered three enormous beings, each estimated around nine feet tall, with what appeared to be tails. As the family tried to document what they were seeing, their cameras and phones reportedly died without warning. Moments later, rocks began striking their toy hauler, and the situation escalated until Michael fired a shot so they could get away.

The episode also includes another chilling encounter from the Matanuska River area, where a camping trip was interrupted by screams, a foul odor, strange guttural chatter, and the sight of a large upright figure moving near camp. The experience was so frightening that the witness stopped camping altogether afterward.

Through each account, Fred returns to the same point: Alaska is full of stories people have kept quiet for too long, and those witnesses deserve a place to speak without being mocked, dismissed, or ignored.

Every Fourth of July, the woods empty out before the first shell ever goes up. The deer vanish. The dogs hide. And somewhere back in the deep hollows, something older than the town itself moves its family over the ridge, same as it has for generations, because it knows our schedule better than we do.

This year, the schedule changed.In this special holiday episode, I'm telling you a Fourth of July story unlike anything I've done on this show. When the little town of Turner Gap adds a preview night to its bicentennial fireworks show, two creatures end up alone in a black mountain gorge with the sky coming apart over their heads. One is an eight-year-old girl named June, who ran from the campground when the booms started because her ears don't have a volume knob.

The other is something young and half-grown that has never heard fireworks in its life and believes the sky itself is breaking open.What happens between them over one long night, a washed-out ledge above a forty-foot drop, a counting trick a father taught his daughter about thunder, and a search party whose dogs refuse to go up the gorge, is the kind of story that starts as a missing child report and ends as something this county still doesn't have words for. It's told the way I got it, from tracks, from sign, from a deputy's report nobody made her write, and from a spiral notebook where a mother wrote down every strange, plain, devastating thing her daughter said at bedtime for months afterward.

And yes, it comes back around to flags and freedom before it's done. Because a country that shoots off the sound of war one night a year to celebrate not being at war ought to be big enough to remember everybody that sound lands on. The old soldier in his basement. The dog in the bathtub. The girl with the orange ear muffs. And whatever stands on a burn scar two ridges out, watching our flag have its birthday.

Grab a seat by the fire. Count the booms. And leave a little quiet out for whoever needs it.

In this first installment of the Sasquatch Unleashed, I take you all the way back to where my obsession began. The pine woods of north Georgia, the campfire stories my dad's hunting buddies traded after dark, and the tale of a ginseng hunter named Mr. Brown who came face to face with something eight feet tall and reeking of death in Jenkins Gap.

I share my own encounter too, the day at twelve years old when something I still can't explain ran me out of the woods and set me on the path that eventually became Sasquatch Odyssey. From there we dig into the real meat of the phenomenon. I walk through the evidence that keeps me in this fight, from the eyewitness accounts and the footprints with their telltale mid-tarsal break to the disputed hair samples, the Sierra Sounds recordings, the Patterson-Gimlin film, the Paul Freeman footage, and the strange partial body cast pulled from a muddy wallow near Mount Adams.

We get into tree breaks and stick structures, what the known great apes actually build, and the deep divide between those of us who see a flesh-and-blood animal and those who chase high strangeness. I lay out my two best suspects from the fossil record, Gigantopithecus and Australopithecus, and revisit the crippled tracks that turned up around Bossburg.

Then I carry you into the history that came long before the cameras ever rolled. The indigenous traditions that named this creature across the Pacific Northwest, the early explorers who found giant tracks pressed into the snow, and the chilling account a future president, Theodore Roosevelt, recorded in his own hunting memoir. The story of a trapper named Bauman, and a night in a lonely mountain pass that ended in something no one could explain.

A man named Dale wrote to me with no subject line and one question: had I ever taken a statement I wasn't allowed to write down. Sixteen years on the job in Atlanta meant that question landed somewhere familiar, so I wrote him back, and what followed was three phone calls and thirty years of a retired ranger's private records read to me out of the drugstore notebooks he'd been keeping since his first season. Dale spent most of his career in the Great Smoky Mountains, with early seasons out west and a few eastern parks along the way.

He started out a skeptic, a hunting-family kid who filed the Bigfoot stuff in the same drawer as ghost lights and panther screams. He agrees with me about ninety percent of the way. No men in black, no federal directive, no coordinated national cover-up. But he wanted to push back on the last ten percent with three decades of receipts, because in his experience reports do get buried, not by conspiracy but by omission, by a supervisor saying write it as a bear, by a busy man deciding a thing is easier to ignore than explain. This episode walks through what he saw and what he was told to do about it. The two backpackers and the rock-throwing at the shelter that got logged as bear activity.

The hunter who watched something walk a ridgeline on two legs and got angry when Dale wouldn't hand him an easy answer. The through-hiker, the scout troop, and the experienced hunter named Pres who watched one work a timber edge through a spotting scope for ten minutes in good light. The screams, the whoops, the wood knocks, the jabbering that broke a grown man because of the pauses. The casts Dale still keeps in his garage, the one he turned in early on that disappeared, the structures and tree breaks and stacked stones he couldn't argue down.

The colleagues who only ever floated it sideways in a truck at the end of a shift, and the one who sat on his own sighting for forty years because a supervisor in the seventies told him he'd finish his career cleaning vault toilets.And the last one. A gray morning, a downed tree across a gated roadbed, and something standing fifty yards up the track that looked back at him over its shoulder and folded into the laurel without a sound. Dale had plaster in the truck.

He'd cast a dozen prints for other people on far less. He looked at the two impressions it left, turned around, and drove down the mountain, and he never told anyone at the Park Service. The man who kept thirty years of records because he couldn't stand watching the truth get left out went and left out his own, and he knew exactly what he was doing while he did it.I still don't believe in the grand conspiracy. Institutions leak, people talk, somebody always wants the credit or the book deal. But Dale moved me on the small version, because the small version isn't a theory. It's just how organizations work, and I watched the same machinery punch the same hole in the same kind of paperwork wearing a different uniform.

The motive never had to be sinister for the record to come out crooked. If you want to know how something stays hidden in plain sight that long, you don't need an agency. You need the most honest man in the woods to decide on his own that some truths cost more than they're worth. He'll keep the secret better than any conspiracy could, for free.

In this episode, Brian welcomes Kyle back to the show for a raw, boots-on-the-ground conversation about Kyle’s new venture, Backcountry Bigfoot, a YouTube channel built around the real-life experience of Sasquatch research in the wild. Rather than presenting a polished, overly produced version of the subject, Kyle explains that his goal is to bring viewers directly into the backcountry with him, capturing the everyday reality of expeditions, campfire conversations, tree breaks, footprints, strange sounds, unexpected moments, and the humor, exhaustion, awe, and uncertainty that come with searching for Sasquatch in some of the most active wilderness areas he has worked.

Kyle shares how Backcountry Bigfoot came together, including Brian’s role in helping him land on the name and shape the idea into something that could become more than just a channel. He talks about wanting to fully immerse himself in filming, editing, guiding, and documenting his research, even though it is all new territory for him. The heart of the project is authenticity: walking through the woods, talking through evidence as it is found, sitting around the fire after a long day, and giving viewers the kind of raw access that many people will never be able to experience in person.

The conversation moves into Kyle’s research area near Radium, where Brian previously spent time in the field and had experiences that left a lasting impression. They discuss the remote journey into the area, the powerful feeling of being truly away from civilization, and the kind of activity reported there, including rock throwing, wood knocks, strange vocalizations, “samurai chatter,” trailer movement, eerie night walks, and multiple alleged Sasquatch sightings. Kyle also recounts several personal and witnessed encounters, including his father seeing a Sasquatch near camp and a guest watching one cross a trail just as darkness settled in.

A major part of the discussion focuses on the evidence found throughout the area, especially the overwhelming number of tree breaks and the unusual footprints preserved in the thick mossy substrate. Kyle explains how the moss reacts to normal human traffic compared with the deep impressions he believes were left by extremely heavy beings, some lasting for years because the moss is crushed, torn, and effectively killed in the shape of a foot.  

Brian reflects on how difficult it is to appreciate the scale and strangeness of the tree breaks without seeing them firsthand, especially when they appear high off the ground, methodically broken, and far beyond what an average person could reproduce.

Brian and Kyle also revisit some of the most memorable locations from the expedition, including the area known as Pinner Playground, a strange section of forest filled with unusual stick formations, teepee-like structures, possible trackways, and an energy that both men describe as hard to explain. They also discuss the discovery of a massive structure involving enormous trees placed against an ancient tree deep in an area where machinery could not realistically access, raising more questions than answers about how it could have been made.

Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel is back with two more amazing encounters from the wilds of Alaska.In the first account, Fred shares a chilling story from the early 1960s along the Nushagak River near Bristol Bay.

Siblings “Agnes” and “Dean” were out scouting berry patches and looking for signs of moose when they heard deep, guttural bellowing coming from the dense brush. What followed was a terrifying encounter with an enormous, humanlike figure moving through the vegetation, pulling brush aside as it advanced.

As the siblings tried to retreat toward their skiff, Dean fired at what appeared to be an approaching hand. Moments later, they spotted an even larger figure near the riverbank, this one described as having long, groomed-looking hair, before they escaped by boat.The second encounter takes us east of Day Harbor, where “Bill,” “Brad,” and “Connie” came face-to-face with something massive hidden in the brush. At first, they saw what looked like a huge black-haired head with dark skin staring back at them. Then it stood up.

The group fled downhill, only to later discover a large log that appeared to have been thrown down the slope. Bill fired and believed he struck the creature in the leg, but the encounter escalated when a spinning piece of wood was hurled in his direction. Loud whistles echoed through the area, forcing the group to escape by dinghy. Fred also shares his appreciation for the witnesses who came forward, noting that names and map locations have been adjusted to protect their identities. 

These two unsettling Alaska encounters are packed with fear, mystery, and the kind of remote wilderness detail that makes Sasquatch reports from the far north so compelling.

Can we convict Sasquatch in a court of law?  Brian takes the single question that earned its own chapter in his first book, Sasquatch Unleashed: The Truth Behind the Legend, and puts the big fella on trial under the same rules that decide real cases.

Drawing on sixteen years carrying a badge, including time with the Atlanta Police Department, and close to forty years chasing this animal in the field, Brian builds the Sasquatch case the way a working investigator builds any case, brick by brick, and then tears it apart on cross-examination so you hear the strongest version of both sides before you render a verdict.

Testimonial evidence, the tens of thousands of eyewitness accounts from police officers, wildlife biologists, soldiers, hunters and truckers, gets prosecuted hard and then cross-examined just as hard, because eyewitness memory is the most fragile thing in the entire courtroom.

And digital evidence, the trail-camera photos, thermal clips and cell-phone video, runs straight into the deepfake era, where better technology has somehow made the case harder to prove rather than easier.Along the way the episode walks through the real material that defines this subject, from the Bossburg Cripplefoot tracks and the work of Grover Krantz and Jeff Meldrum to the Oxford DNA study led by Bryan Sykes, the Melba Ketchum results, the new-species precedents of the mountain gorilla, the coelacanth and the saola, and the body-shaped hole at the center of the whole question.

In this episode, Brian welcomes Doug from Oregon for an intense and deeply detailed account of a roadside Sasquatch encounter that took place in February 2006 along Highway 199 between Grants Pass, Oregon, and Crescent City, California.

Doug explains how a late-night drive home through the dark, winding canyon near the Collier Tunnel and The Narrows turned into one of the most unforgettable moments of his life when his headlights and orange truck lights revealed a massive upright figure walking along the road.Doug describes the creature as unlike the classic bulky depictions many people imagine. Instead, he saw something towering, lean, powerful, and athletic, with the build of an enormous basketball player.

He estimates it stood somewhere around ten feet tall or more, with long arms, massive shoulders, a narrow waist, pronounced musculature, pale gray skin, dark charcoal-gray hair, and orange-red eyes that appeared to catch the light as Doug passed in his 1995 Chevy dually. The creature did not run, panic, or react aggressively. It simply kept walking, calm and natural, as Doug drove by close enough to see its face, body structure, stride, hands, feet, and skin in startling detail.

The conversation moves beyond the sighting itself into the emotional aftermath of seeing something so rare and impossible to easily explain. Doug talks about the shock, excitement, fear, and frustration that followed, especially after sharing the story with people who dismissed him or made him feel ridiculed. Over time, encouragement from his wife and conversations with Native friends, outdoorsmen, hunters, and other witnesses helped him become more open about what he saw.

He also shares related local accounts from the same region, including sightings near Siskiyou Forks Road, Bluff Creek, Bald Hills Road, the Klamath River, Monkey Creek, and other deeply remote parts of Northern California and Southern Oregon.Brian and Doug also dig into one of the biggest questions surrounding roadside Sasquatch encounters: why would such an elusive creature be seen walking near or on a road? Brian offers the possibility that, like other animals, Sasquatch may sometimes use roads as the path of least resistance while moving from one area to another.

Doug adds his own thoughts about the rugged terrain, river corridors, steep granite slopes, and hidden access points in the area where his encounter occurred. The discussion touches on Native traditions, flesh-and-blood theories, spiritual questions, government secrecy, missing people, wilderness fear, and the strange mix of curiosity and danger that seems to follow this phenomenon.

Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube channel is back, and this time he brings two encounters rooted deep in the Copper River Valley and the gold country of Alaska's interior. The first comes from a man we'll call Travis, an Ahtna man with family ties down the Copper River Valley who saved for years to carve out a small homestead on a five-acre piece of native allotment land.

Three years ago, on the third morning of an early trip with his wife, the couple's coffee was interrupted by a grunt and then a growl that seemed to come from every direction. What Travis first took for a bear turned out to be something far stranger, peering over ten-foot alders from twenty-five yards out. His wife saw it clearly first, describing a caveman-like figure with dark grayish-black skin, black eyes, a broad flat nose with downward-facing nostrils, and a strange blondish-red coat of hair.

What followed was a two-day siege, with multiple creatures circling the cabin, jiggling the door handle, throwing rocks onto the roof, and fixating on Travis's wife, who reported hearing one of them telling her to come over in her own head. Rifle shots, a near-decision to burn the tree line, a sleepless night, and a tense armed extraction with friends the next morning all play out before they finally reach their ATVs and escape. Travis has returned since, learning from the previous owners that activity reliably picked up twice a year, every spring and fall.

The second story reaches back to the spring of 1946 and comes from an Ahtna elder we'll call Tyler, passed down across a lifetime from his father, Tyler Senior. Set in the gold country near what would later become the Taylor Highway at Mosquito Creek, in an area then known as Forty Mile, the account follows Tyler Senior and two cousins working a small claim. After days with no wildlife stirring, the harassment began with strange whoops, whistles, and pigeon-like cooing from the tree line, then escalated to rocks thrown with painful accuracy, a wrung-off caribou head and a stripped hindquarter lobbed into camp, and a black silhouette swaying at the edge of the firelight.

 Heavily armed with old-school large-bore rifles, the men fired volley after volley at a creature that ran through their fire, scattered the embers, and seemed to vanish each time they shot. By the time multiple siren-like screams answered one another up and down the valley before dawn, the men packed up and abandoned the operation for good.

The lesson Tyler Senior carried and passed down was simple and consistent: you never engage the bushman, you leave, because if you don't, it doesn't stop.

Brian welcomes back North Carolina BFRO researcher Rick for a wide-ranging conversation filled with field reports, strange activity, and thoughtful discussion about the ever-evolving world of Bigfoot research. Rick begins by revisiting his own 2010 road-crossing encounter before taking listeners into recent BFRO expeditions in southeastern Tennessee and South Carolina’s Sumter National Forest, where investigators experienced a series of intense and unexplained nighttime events.

During these outings, Rick describes loud impacts against a metal building, rocks being thrown near the group, unusual eye shine or glowing eyes appearing 7 to 9 feet off the ground, and colors that seemed to shift between red, yellow-green, and white. He also discusses reports of “zapping” sensations, aggressive bull rushes when participants moved too close, and a large tree or log being thrown through the woods with enough force to convince the group it was time to leave the area.

The conversation also explores the stranger edges of field research, including occasional paranormal claims connected to investigation sites, such as reports of a “white lady” entity and voice-box messages that appeared to describe what participants were wearing.

Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel returns to the show with two chilling reported encounters from the Alaskan wilderness, each involving a large, aggressive, humanlike creature and witnesses forced to flee under terrifying circumstances.

In the first account, Timothy, an aspiring bush pilot, flies from Anchorage to Big Lake in June before continuing by floatplane to a remote pond near a friend’s cabin. While hiking a ridge late in the evening — despite the lingering daylight near 11 p.m. — Timothy is overcome by an intense feeling of unease. Moments later, he sees trees violently shaking, hears guttural clicks and eerie cackling sounds, and spots a massive dark figure he estimates to be 13 to 14 feet tall.

The encounter escalates when the creature appears to throw the top half of a spruce tree in his direction. Timothy fires his shotgun, then empties his .44 Magnum at what he describes as a crouched, spider-crawling mass. The figure suddenly rises to its full height, lets out a horrifying scream, and Timothy makes a desperate escape back to his floatplane.

The second account comes from brothers Derek and James, who describe a frightening 1979 trip along Alaska’s Snake River. While traveling through dense fog, they hear a powerful whoop and soon see a dark shape rise up into a massive bipedal form. The encounter intensifies as rocks are thrown and the creature begins making strange, motor-like imitation sounds, forcing the brothers to flee. Family members later refer to the being as a “hairy man.”

This is part two of my conversation with author and researcher Norman Sollie, and this is where the rubber meets the road. In our first episode together on Friday, Norman walked us through more than four decades of his own personal encounters with Sasquatch across Washington, Illinois, Massachusetts, Colorado, and Alaska.  In part two, we leave Norman's personal experiences behind and we dig into the work he's spent the last several years building. His brand-new book, Before Patty, Volume One: Patrick, the Sasquatch-Human Hybrid and Our Genetic Inheritance, lays out a case unlike anything I've seen in this field in close to forty years of paying attention.Norman walks me through the chain that brought him to the story in the first place, starting with a self-published Russian hominology book he picked up at the twenty nineteen International Bigfoot Conference in Kennewick, Washington, that pointed him toward an obscure American anthropologist named Dr. Ed Fusch and a nineteen ninety-two paper most of the Bigfoot community had never heard of.

He walks me through how genealogist Heather Moser of Small Town Monsters cracked the trail open in forty-eight hours, and how Norman then spent the next two years personally tracking Patrick across the entire historical record, eventually surfacing a hundred and sixty documents that all point to the same man.The case Norman lays out is built on hard evidence. Birth records placing Patrick's birth in June of eighteen ninety-two, three months earlier than the family officially declared, with the strong implication that his mother was moved off-reservation to Chelan, Washington, to give birth in privacy.

A land patent on a hundred and four acres of Colville Reservation ranch land, signed by President Woodrow Wilson in nineteen seventeen. Court filings and arrest records from Patrick's later years documenting his slide into Prohibition-era bootlegging and alcoholism. Mugshots from the front and the side that show a man whose anatomy does not fit a clean Homo sapiens profile. And a careful ink signature in Patrick's own hand, consistent across roughly twenty-five years of documents, that now sits on the cover of Norman's book.Norman gets into the comparative anatomy in detail. The steeply sloped forehead without compensating brow ridges. The brain case that extends back behind the ears in a way no typical Homo sapiens skull extends. The ears themselves, sitting noticeably below the line between the pupils and rotated backward by roughly twenty-two degrees. The completely missing chin, the absence of the bony mentum projection, a feature that lines up cleanly with what we know about Neanderthal jaw structure.

The short compressed neck that mirrors Neanderthal cervical vertebrae. Norman ran comparative tracings against a Colville Indian contemporary and an Alaskan Native control, scaled to the same dimensions, and Patrick falls outside the human range on virtually every measurement that matters.We get into the strangeness of Patrick the man. The farmhand Louie, who worked for him through the late nineteen twenties, described him as a quiet gentle boss who was nearly impossible to play cards against because he always knew what everybody else was holding. We get into his eight children, including the three surviving daughters Mary Louise, Madeline, and Stella, and the inheritance that shows up in their faces and bodies in varying degrees.

We get into Patrick's slow decline through the nineteen twenties and thirties, the loss of the ranch, the bootlegging arrests, the hops-picking years, and the death in a Seattle morning in nineteen sixty-two on the same day Norman himself first arrived in the United States as a small child.And we get to the bottom line. Norman makes the case, plainly, that Patrick was real. That his father was not a human father....

In this episode, Brian sits down with author and researcher Norman Solie for the first half of their conversation, focused entirely on the encounters and experiences that pulled Norman into the world of Sasquatch research.

Norman traces his fascination back to childhood, when he first saw the Patterson-Gimlin film while growing up in Washington. That early impression stayed with him, but it was a solo backpacking trip in 1980 to a remote lake in the Cascade Mountains that would leave him with questions he could not easily dismiss.

During that trip, Norman heard a chilling wail in the night, discovered a large muddy footprint near his tent, and was overcome by an urgent, unexplainable feeling that he needed to leave immediately. As he made his way out, the sound of breaking branches behind him only deepened the mystery.After stepping away from the subject in the mid-1980s, Norman’s interest was reignited years later during a 2006 retreat in Illinois, where he witnessed a small, black, fuzzy-edged figure watching people from a distance.

What first seemed strange and difficult to explain would later lead him to consider the possibility that he had seen a juvenile Sasquatch.

Norman also shares a series of unusual experiences from Alaska and Massachusetts, including the feeling of being watched, possible structures, tracks, scat, tree breaks, strange vocalizations, possible eye shine, and unexplained knocks both near his home and along trails around his remote cabin. This is Part 1 of Brian’s conversation with Norman Solie, centered on Norman’s personal encounters and field experiences.

With genuine respect for Bill and the work he's done, Brian walks through why the simplest explanation for that footage isn't the one Bill is offering, why he thinks Bill is working backward from a conclusion rather than forward from the evidence, and why the honest position is to keep both possibilities on the table while the rest of the story unfolds.

From the witness record and dermal ridges to the Sierra Sounds, from his own 2024 sighting in Washington State to the absence of a body that remains the field's central problem, this episode lays out the biological case clearly and then turns to the part that's been on his mind lately.

This is another installment of The Bigfoot Inquiry with Brian and Dr. Hogan Sherrow, and the guys open with the recent follow-up email from Bill Munns regarding the Patterson-Gimlin Film and the upcoming Capturing Bigfoot documentary before moving on to other topics.

Brian narrated Bill's open letter in full on a recent Sasquatch Odyssey episode, and on this episode he and Hogan break down what Bill actually said and what it might mean. Bill doubles down on his position that the PGF is one hundred percent authentic, but in doing so he may have painted himself into a corner. If the forty-second clip in the new documentary turns out to look identical to Patty, then by Bill's own reasoning that clip has to be a man in a suit, which raises serious questions about the original film.

Brian also pushes back on Bill's claim that the new clip was shot on 1966 Kodak film stock but possibly not used until 1970 or later, arguing that filmmakers are creatures of habit who use their film within a reasonable window of purchase.Hogan brings the scientific perspective and pushes back on Bill's use of absolute language, explaining that science does not prove anything to one hundred percent and that any such claim is a methodological red flag.

He also takes issue with the assumption-based reasoning around the color of the foot, the angle of the step, and the supposed impossibility of anyone obtaining a Bigfoot suit. Both guys remind listeners that two things can be true at once, that the PGF could be a hoax and Bigfoot could still exist, and that everyone should reserve final judgment until they can see Capturing Bigfoot for themselves.

From there the conversation moves to Sasquatch Ontario and Mike Patterson's announcement of a new book called The Invisible Giant, which Brian considers part of one of the longest-running hoaxes in the Bigfoot world. That leads into a broader discussion of the growing divide in the Bigfoot community, which Hogan compares to the ongoing chimpanzee civil war at the Ngogo community in Uganda, the largest chimp group ever documented.

This week on Sasquatch Odyssey, I sit down with Brett from Colorado, a lifelong outdoorsman, avid hunter, and longtime listener who finally decided to send his story in. What unfolds across this conversation is one of those grounded, no-frills encounters that I think hits harder than the big sexy sightings, because Brett isn't trying to sell you anything.

He's a guy who grew up in the Colorado mountains, knows what belongs out there, and ran headfirst into something that didn't.Brett's first brush with the unknown happened when he was around 16 or 17 years old, somewhere in 2006 or 2007, while camping at the alpine lakes on the western side of I-25 in southern Colorado. 

A fire, a friend, a quiet night, and then a sound coming out of the tree line that didn't match anything he had ever heard in those mountains. He describes it as a howl, but a howl with bass to it, something guttural that didn't track as canine. His buddy went pale almost immediately and told him his grandpa had warned him about Bigfoot. That was the first time Brett had ever really heard the word in any serious way, and the wood knocks rolling in from the timber that night did the rest of the work. The bigger story, and the one that has stayed with him for almost twenty years now, happened in the summer of 2009 on a remote stretch of road between Durango and Alamosa. 

Brett, his now-wife, and his best friend Paul were on a road trip out to California after graduating high school. Somewhere south of the Four Corners, deep in unfamiliar country and lost off the MapQuest directions, a doe ran out in front of the Jeep and refused to leave the road. She kept pace in the headlights for a couple hundred yards, which any hunter will tell you is not normal deer behavior.

Then Brett saw it on an embankment off the driver's side. Seven to ten feet tall, black and shaggy, and a pair of eyes he describes as Texas Longhorn orange catching the headlights and then dimming as he passed.His friend Paul, who comes from a Hispanic and Native American family, refused to discuss it for the next ten or fifteen miles down the road. When he finally broke, he confirmed everything Brett had seen, then immediately shut it back down with three words that get to the heart of so much of this phenomenon. 

We don't talk about him. Paul had been raised to believe that talking about this creature is what brings him around to take children. That cultural weight, that learned silence, is something I've explored on this show many times with Fred from Alaska and others, and Brett's experience puts a fresh face on it.We get into the wood knocks Brett heard up at the alpine lakes and how they compare to what I heard with Todd Standing up in Radium and what I've experienced right here on my own property in North Carolina.

Brett describes the sound as more of a hollow whop than a wood-on-wood thud, and we talk through my growing belief, shaped by years of conversations with Doug Hajicek and Tom Powell, that a lot of these knocks are being made with the mouth and hand rather than with sticks or clubs. 

The simple reality is that you cannot walk into the woods and reliably find a piece of wood solid enough to produce that kind of report. The physics don't work.The conversation moves into eye shine, which is where Brett's hunting background really earns its keep. He breaks down the difference between the green and white shine you get off deer and elk, the yellow on cats and bears, and the quick flash of a mountain lion crossing a road, and then explains why what he saw that night fit none of it. The eyes were steady. They tracked the Jeep without flinching. The creature didn't move, didn't hide, didn't react the way anything in those woods is supposed to react.

In this episode, Fred from the Subarctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube Channel speaks by phone with Patquah, an Inupiaq man originally from Utqiagvik who has spent years living in the Noatak River Valley.

Their conversation explores subsistence living in Arctic Alaska, the nomadic history of the Inupiaq people, and the oral traditions passed down through generations to help hunters, travelers, and families understand the dangers of the land.Patquah shares accounts of strange lights, unexplained wilderness phenomena, and traditional warnings about “little people” said to inhabit remote areas of Alaska.

These stories include descriptions of foot-tall mountain beings with red eyes and unusual strength, as well as child-sized figures wearing pointed hoods. Rather than framing these traditions as simple folklore or superstition, Patquah explains how elders used these stories as practical survival knowledge, teaching younger generations to respect the land, pay attention to signs, and avoid becoming careless in dangerous country.The conversation then turns to a recent and unsettling experience from April 21, 2026, during a snowmachine hunting trip near the Noatak–Kivalina trail in Northwest Alaska.

While traveling through the area, Patquah heard a powerful, echoing scream that seemed to carry across the landscape and left him with the strong feeling that he was being watched. The following day, as weather conditions worsened and he and two companions briefly became disoriented, they spotted a large, dark, hairy figure sitting on a ridge. After viewing it through binoculars, the group chose to leave the area rather than approach.Patquah later learned that relatives and other hunters had reported similar screams and sightings in the region, adding another layer to an already compelling account.

This episode blends Inupiaq oral tradition, Alaska Native cultural history, remote wilderness survival, and a modern hairy man encounter from the Mulgrave Hills and Noatak River Valley region.

For decades, the PGF has stood at the center of the Bigfoot debate. To some, it is the strongest visual evidence ever recorded of an unknown North American primate. To others, it is nothing more than a well-executed hoax. But with the release of the new documentary Capturing Bigfoot, new questions, perspectives, and claims are being brought into the conversation — some of which may challenge what we know, or at least what we think we know, about the film.

So what happens when 16 years of law enforcement experience meets nearly 30 years of primate behavioral research? That's the foundation of The Bigfoot Inquiry.

Hosted by former police officer Brian King-Sharp and Dr. Hogan Sherrow, PhD in Evolutionary Anthropology, this segment approaches the Sasquatch phenomenon through two very different but complementary lenses: real investigative procedure and scientific analysis.

In this episode, Brian welcomes Todd, an Ohio native now living in Florida, to share how a series of unsettling experiences at Bird Rookery Swamp in October 2020 pulled him into the world of Bigfoot and Skunk Ape research. What began with the discovery of a large, deep footprint pressed into fresh cypress needles quickly turned into something harder to dismiss.

Todd describes repeated encounters with a powerful skunky, almost death-like odor, brush and small trees moving toward the trail, and the unmistakable sound of loud, bipedal splashing as something unseen retreated through the swamp.

As his curiosity grew, Todd began documenting what he found and connecting with others who had reported similar odors, sightings, and strange activity in the same area. He later formed the Explorers Network as a way to share swamp conditions, field notes, and ongoing observations. His search has since taken him to the Florida Trail, Loop Road, and other remote areas, where he has found additional large footprints, unusual tree structures, and what appeared to be a stick-triggered trap.

Todd also discusses his experimental use of sound in the field, including an artificial “howl and groan” Bigfoot call that he says consistently causes alligators to react and retreat. His current work includes long-term, fixed-location trail camera research at Myakka River State Park, where he is tracking wildlife patterns over the course of a full year.

 Along the way, he has noted a sharp decline in visible wildlife, unexplained roaring sounds, booming footfalls, and the use of nearby geocache logs to help gauge human and animal activity in the area.

In this episode, Fred shares Ralph’s chilling early-1980s encounter on the Willow side of Hatcher Pass, where what began as a routine trip to set up a travel trailer on soft breakup ground quickly turned into something far more terrifying. Ralph first believed he had spotted a bear near the treeline, but the massive figure he saw soon revealed itself to be something far more humanlike, standing an estimated nine-and-a-half to ten feet tall.

Over the following days and nights, the activity around the trailer intensified with guttural growls, strange clicking sounds, older tracks, and what appeared to be a worn path leading dangerously close to the trailer window.The encounter escalated when the trailer was violently tipped onto its side during a night of terrifying growls.

Ralph fired at the figure in the darkness and later discovered broken windows that had to be patched. On another night, he woke to see a large hand reaching through one of those broken windows, fired again, and then heard heavy movement across the roof.

After finding stacked lumber shoved deep into the ground, Ralph finally left the property and never returned. His brother would later abandon the land as well after experiencing similar unexplained events.

Fred also shares a haunting 1990s report from near the Kvichak River, where a wolf’s howl was followed by the appearance of twenty to thirty wolves and a strange “Jeremiah Johnson”-looking figure. Local elders warned people not to go out alone and spoke of “hairy men” connected to wolves, adding another eerie layer to Alaska’s long history of wild, remote, and unsettling Sasquatch encounters.

The first story follows Rodolfo, a Filipino immigrant who joins an Alaska Native friend on a moose hunt near Grayling Creek off the Yukon River. What begins as a routine hunting trip quickly turns unsettling when the men hear strange whistling in the dark, spot a massive shadowy figure, and witness Rodolfo’s friend panic after shining a spotlight on what appears to be an angry, towering creature. As the encounter escalates, gunshots are fired when the figure comes within ten feet of them.

Later, Rodolfo sees the creature from a distance, only for the terror to continue that night near their landing area, where he reports eyeshine, a nearly ten-foot-tall figure baring its teeth, brushing dirt from itself, and letting out a terrifying scream before the men arrange an early pickup by radio.

The second account centers on Alvin and Myrna, an Athabascan couple hiking Devil’s Creek Trail in February 2020 with their nine-month-old Tibetan Mastiff. During the hike, something begins mimicking Myrna’s voice in an apparent attempt to lure the dog away. Moments later, the animal is snatched, leaving the couple shaken and desperate for answers.

Alvin later catches sight of the creature and hears a scream echo through the valley, turning a peaceful outing into a nightmare they would never forget.These stories serve as a powerful reminder of how vast, remote, and mysterious Alaska’s wilderness truly is. Whether you believe these encounters involve Bigfoot, the legendary hairy man, or something else entirely,

Brian came home from the Smoky Mountain Bigfoot Festival with something sitting on his chest, and this letter is what came out of it. It is an honest, sometimes uncomfortable piece of thinking about what is happening in the Sasquatch field right now, and where it could end up if we do not pay attention. The piece opens with the people. 

The young woman from Ohio who waited until the end of the day to tell him about something she heard on her grandparents' farm when she was thirteen. The man from southeastern Ohio with an audio file on his phone, hoping somebody would tell him it was real. The woman from eastern Kentucky with her folder of photographs and her arrangement of stones. The man who explained, with complete sincerity, that Sasquatch can open interdimensional portals.

The woman who believes they live inside trees. The young man with the dogman map in his head. These are not strange people. They are kind, ordinary, often quite intelligent. And what they believe has been shaped, in ways most of them do not see, by an environment that rewards the spectacular and punishes the careful.

From there, Brian works through why we believe what we believe. He talks about the pattern-recognition machinery in the human brain and what happens when you drop that machinery into a world of trail cameras and YouTube algorithms.

He talks about the human need for meaning, and the quiet pull toward the more meaningful explanation when the simpler one is sitting right in front of us. He talks about the role of community, and what it costs a person to question a belief that has become part of how they belong. And he talks, plainly, about the money in this field, and the incentive structure that rewards extraordinary claims without rewarding extraordinary evidence.

He looks at what happened to UFO research in the nineteen seventies as a warning. A real question, taken seriously by serious people, that collapsed under the weight of louder voices and wilder claims, and spent forty years on the margins before the door cracked open again. He does not want that to happen here. He does not think it has to.The letter gets sharp on two subjects. The first is the Missing four-one-one narrative, and what it means to imply, without evidence, that an unconfirmed creature is responsible for the disappearance of real people from real families. The second is the Patterson-Gimlin Film and the controversy that has erupted around it this past year.

Brian holds his position. He has not seen the documentary. He will not render judgment until he has. But he has plenty to say about what the controversy itself has revealed about the community. Drawing on his sixteen years in law enforcement, Brian spends time on what witnesses are and what they are not, and why taking a witness seriously means doing more than just believing them. He is honest about how his own thinking has changed over nearly forty years in this field, including the things he used to believe and has since had to set down.

 And he lands, finally, on the choice every one of us makes every time we sit down with a piece of evidence or a story or a podcast. Are we going to reward extraordinary claims with extraordinary belief, or are we going to reward them with extraordinary scrutiny. This one is long, and it is personal, and it is going to make some people in the community uncomfortable.

Brian's okay with that. He thinks the field is worth more than the place it is drifting toward, and he thinks the only way to get there is to start telling the truth about where we actually are.

Tonight's episode comes from a longtime listener who finally sat down at his kitchen table at two in the morning and put forty-four years of silence into words. He asked us to call him Jacob. In the summer of 1982, when he was twelve years old, he and three of his closest friends hiked into a stretch of north Georgia national forest with packs on their backs and a single .22 rifle between them. It was their first campout without adults.

They were supposed to stay a week. They came home after three days, and they have never once sat down together and talked about why. What happened to those four boys over those three nights is the kind of thing that rearranges a person from the inside out. Wood knocks on the ridge. A voice in the trees that knew one of their names. A figure stepping out from behind a poplar twenty yards from the fire. Jeremy spent two tours in Iraq and came home carrying things he couldn't name. In October 2006, he went alone into the deep backcountry of the Washington Cascades for a week-long solo elk hunt, hoping the wilderness would do what it had always done for him. It didn't.

Something else was in that drainage, and it had been aware of him long before he was aware of it.This is one of the most carefully told accounts we've received at Backwoods Bigfoot Stories. When illuminated, the creature seemed to vanish, only to reappear closer moments later. The encounter escalated as the figure abruptly changed direction and disappeared into the surrounding terrain, accompanied by the unmistakable sounds of heavy footfalls and branches snapping under its weight.Ian also reflects on the unique challenges of researching cryptids in the UK, where skepticism often overshadows open discussion.

Fred from the Sub Arctic Alaska Sasquatch YouTube channel returns to share two chilling accounts of Alaska’s mysterious “Harry Man.” For more incredible stories from Fred, be sure to check out his channel using the link in the show notes.In the first account, Daniel from the Bristol Bay region recalls a terrifying experience from roughly 40 years ago while helping his father build a log cabin on a Native allotment.

What began with small but unsettling disturbances, including missing items and eerie screams in the surrounding wilderness, quickly escalated into something far more frightening. One night, violent knocking shook the cabin, triggering an overwhelming sense of dread. When they stepped outside, they came face to face with a massive, muscular figure covered in reddish-brown hair, standing well over 10 feet tall. At the same time, it seemed another presence had entered the cabin itself, breaking through the door.

Fearing for their lives, Daniel and his father fled to their skiff as strange chirping, clicking, and popping sounds echoed around them. When they later returned, they found the cabin badly damaged, and years afterward, only the lower portion remained salvageable.Fred also shares reports from Mark Frank, whose own sightings add another unsettling layer to the mystery.

In February 2019, near an oil well and seismic trail, Mark encountered a large hairy figure that appeared to transform into a moose with a distorted face before vanishing from sight.

 Then, in May near Valdez, he witnessed multiple figures positioned on a mountainside, seemingly watching over a female and two juveniles as they moved across the slope.

In this episode, Brian shares a detailed "Open Letter" from Bill Munns, one of the foremost analysts of the Patterson-Gimlin Film, responding to the controversy surrounding the new documentary "Capturing Bigfoot." Bill was interviewed on the show weeks ago about his role in the documentary, where he physically inspected the newly discovered forty-second film clip that many are calling a dress rehearsal for the PGF.

Eric Palacios from the Hairy Man Road YouTube channel was also interviewed after seeing the documentary at the South by Southwest film festival in March 2026. The two men saw the same clip and came away with fundamentally different conclusions. Bill says it's a replica filmed after the PGF. Eric says he saw Patty. In his email, Bill lays out a thorough case for why the documentary fails to meet scientific or evidentiary standards, challenges the dating of the new footage, and argues the replica hypothesis is far more logical than the rehearsal narrative the filmmakers are pushing.

After reading the email in full, Brian offers his own take on how two credible people can see the same evidence and reach opposite conclusions, addresses the role that vested interests play in shaping interpretation, and makes the case that the real question isn't when the clip was filmed but what it actually shows.

In this epiosde Brian sits down with Corina from British Columbia who is hear to share how a growing fascination with Sasquatch was shaped by three unsettling hunting experiences near Prince George. What began as curiosity became far more personal after a series of encounters in remote country left her questioning what might be moving through those woods alongside them.

During an elk hunt in September 2024, Corina  heard an incredibly loud bark and then caught sight of something she still struggles to explain. About 130 yards away, she saw a black, hooded, humanlike figure that appeared to lower itself smoothly out of view. Levi never saw it, but the image stayed with her and became the first moment that pushed the mystery from possibility into something much more real. A year later, in September 2025 on the KO Road, the experiences became even more intense.

 Corina and Levi heard wood knocks from behind them, followed by three knocks ahead, as if something was deliberately responding or repositioning. They also heard repetitive rhythmic barks, strange movement sounds without any visible tree movement, and a roar so powerful it triggered immediate fear. Corina describes a deeply personal moment from that outing when she alone perceived swishy, speech-like sounds and formed a vivid mental impression of a Sasquatch yelling a word, opening a thought-provoking conversation about whether such moments are best understood as mind speak, intuition, or something else entirely.

The encounters did not stop there. In November 2025, Corina and Levi returned to the area and heard more wood knocks along with what sounded like heavy bipedal footsteps approaching the treeline. Although they tried to capture the moment on video, the evidence did not come through, leaving them with another powerful experience but no clear proof to show for it.

Throughout the conversation, Brian and Corina talk about the reality of moving through wilderness where fear of grizzlies is already ever-present, and how those risks shape the way they respond to unexplained activity. They also explore the bigger questions that come with possible Sasquatch encounters, including whether scientific discovery would protect these beings or put them in greater danger.

The American frontier was full of things that settlers and soldiers couldn't explain, and among the strangest were the Wild Man accounts that began appearing in newspapers decades before anyone coined the term Bigfoot.

In this episode, we dig deep into the historical record and examine encounter reports from the eighteen forties through the eighteen sixties, beginning with the eighteen sixty-five Paraclifta, Arkansas account published in the Weekly Standard of Raleigh, North Carolina, and working backward to the eighteen fifty-one Greene County cattle chase first reported by the Memphis Enquirer, the eighteen forty-six Crowley's Ridge footprint discovery published in the Baltimore Sun, and the violent eighteen fifty-six pursuit and attack near the Ouachita Mountains. We examine Civil War-era accounts including the Bridgeport, Alabama wild man captured by Captain George Anderson's men near General Braxton Bragg's encampment and later identified as a traumatized Unionist named Bill Patton who'd suffered a saber wound to the head, the disputed Harper's Ferry letter attributed to Private James Moore of the Sixty-Seventh Pennsylvania Infantry, and the poorly sourced Brice's Cross Roads story involving an unnamed Confederate cavalryman allegedly nursed by a group of Sasquatch.

Along the way, we confront the harder question that underlies all of this material: were these people encountering an undocumented primate, feral humans broken by war and injury, traumatized recluses who'd abandoned civilization, or were they transforming the fear and chaos of frontier and wartime life into folklore? 

The honest answer may be some combination of all four, and the willingness to sit with that uncertainty is what separates genuine research from belief.

Brian welcomes Seth from Connecticut for a fascinating conversation that weaves together classic Bigfoot lore, unsettling personal accounts, and the ongoing debate over what people are really encountering in the woods. Seth shares how his fascination with Sasquatch began at just 10 or 11 years old after reading about Albert Ostman’s alleged 1924 kidnapping.

 He explains why that story has always stood out to him, pointing to the consistency of Ostman’s retelling and the vivid level of detail that continues to make the account feel believable decades later. As the conversation unfolds, Brian and Seth draw comparisons between Ostman’s story and the infamous Ape Canyon encounter, exploring why some cases endure in the culture while others fade.

They also talk about the hesitation many witnesses feel when it comes to sharing strange experiences, especially when those experiences challenge what most people are willing to accept.Seth then recounts a chilling story from his father’s time coon hunting in central Texas in the early 1980s.

After his father shot a turkey, the night was shattered by a terrifying roar Seth describes as sounding like the MGM lion. The reaction was immediate. The dogs pressed tightly against them, the atmosphere changed, and both his father and his hunting partner had the overwhelming sense that something was moving around them as they made their way back to the truck.

Looking back, his father now believes the encounter may have involved Sasquatch.The episode takes an even stranger turn when Seth shares another unexplained experience from the early 1990s involving a silent, basketball-sized red orb seen roughly 100 yards away.

From there, the discussion expands into the larger questions that continue to divide the Bigfoot world, including whether Sasquatch is simply an undiscovered flesh-and-blood species or something that crosses into more mysterious territory. 

Brian and Seth also examine the risks that would come with definitive discovery, the skepticism surrounding extraordinary claims, and the possibility that many encounters may be less about aggression and more about warning people to leave a particular area.

Jerry opens the conversation with chilling accounts rooted in local history, focusing on stories passed down by old-timers that challenge the often-repeated belief that Sasquatch activity in the area only began gaining attention in the late 1970s. One of the most gripping stories comes from Jerry’s late friend Smitty, who recalled a terrifying 1971 squirrel hunting trip in Cleveland County after returning home from Vietnam.

What began as a routine day in the woods with his uncle turned into something far more unsettling when they spotted a massive, hair-covered creature and later found themselves confronted and chased out by an aggressive seven-foot “hairy booger” that screamed, bared its teeth, and made it clear they were no longer welcome there.Jerry also shares several more recent encounters that suggest whatever has been seen in those mountains may still be there. He recounts a 2018 experience involving Uncle Jeff and his nephew Jake, who heard heavy bipedal footsteps in the dark, followed by guttural vocalizations, violent tree shaking, and a brief but disturbing glimpse of a hairy chest and mouth.

He then describes a 2022 roadside sighting reported by an elderly couple who claimed to see a creature with glowing red eyes, along with a string of rock-throwing incidents involving a deer hunter, night hikers, a Jeep, and a pair of creek walkers named Ray and Vera. These encounters are paired with eerie whoops, growling howls, and the kind of escalating behavior that leaves little doubt something unusual was happening in those woods.

Chris then shifts the conversation into the swamps of South Carolina, where an expedition took a frightening turn after his wood knocks and yells were answered by an unbelievably loud scream from deep in the distance. The sheer power of the sound, combined with the isolation of the swamp, was enough to make the group retreat. The documentary aired on a Tuesday night in October, and nothing was ever the same. Within hours it was trending worldwide. Scientists came forward. Former government employees reached out. Russell Crawford, a Tennessee hunter with over fifty years in the Cherokee National Forest, describes the morning he had a clear shot at something massive and chose not to take it. 

Not because he couldn't — but because pulling that trigger would have felt like murder.Margaret White spent thirty years teaching biology in rural Washington and debunking every Sasquatch story her students brought to class. Then she came face to face with one on a trail in Olympic National Park, and every rational explanation she ever had turned to dust.

James Whitehorse carried his story for fifty-four years. He was eight years old, herding sheep near the Chuska Mountains on the Navajo reservation, when a towering figure stepped out of the junipers and raised its hand in greeting. His grandfather told him the white world would never understand. James kept quiet — until now. Maria Santos worked the graveyard shift at a gas station on the edge of the Gila Wilderness. 

One night at two in the morning, something eight feet tall walked up to the pumps and started examining them like a curious child discovering something new.Thomas Erikson came from four generations of Oregon loggers. They called them the Wood Apes, and every logger in the Pacific Northwest knew about them. Thomas shares three encounters spanning decades — including the day one of them spoke to him and pointed at the trees, at him, and at itself. Like it was saying they were all part of the same thing. Thomas passed away six months after this interview.

We hear from Eddie McGraw, a long-haul trucker who watched a creature stroll across a Montana rest area at two in the morning like it owned the place. From David Baker, a National Geographic photographer who captured three frames of the clearest Sasquatch image ever taken — then locked them in a safe for fifteen years. From Patricia Morgan, a Yellowstone ranger who reveals a secret file of sightings passed down from ranger to ranger since the 1950s.

Fred shares two unsettling accounts of “Hairy Man” encounters reported from remote parts of Alaska. First, we hear from Nathaniel and Theresa, a married couple in their seventies who spent years homesteading in the Alaskan wilderness. What began as strange disturbances around their property gradually turned into something far more disturbing.

They experienced missing items, uprooted tree stumps, and terrifying screams in the early morning hours before a Native man finally gave them a name for what he believed was responsible: the “Hairy Man.” Theresa later saw a tall, humanlike figure with no visible neck near their chicken coop. After shots were fired, half of their chickens were found dead.

Months later, Nathaniel encountered a brownish-gray figure moving near their burn pit. Not long after, something struck their cabin, revealed itself at close range, and was shot at. In the days that followed, the couple heard distant howls and eerie call-and-response screams echoing through the area. A neighbor eventually fired shots to run it off, and the activity stopped for years.

Fred then shares Jacob’s story from a coastal village in Alaska.

 While out snowmachining with his cousin to gather firewood, the two men spotted what Jacob estimated to be a ten-foot-tall figure. They heard a powerful whoop, then later found themselves in a tense exchange of gunfire after the creature appeared to lift a log. When they returned, they discovered the cousin’s snowmachine had been destroyed and dragged into the trees.

In this episode, Brian shares an email from a military veteran who served multiple combat tours in Afghanistan and wants the world to hear a story that's been buried for three decades. Matt, as he asks to be called, writes in about a confession made to him by a fellow soldier he calls Joe during a night of drinking while the two were stateside between deployments. Joe revealed that in the mid nineteen nineties, long before the war on terror, he was part of a small specialized team dispatched into an unnamed national park after two hikers went missing.

The male hiker's body was found twenty five feet up in a tree with his neck broken. The female hiker was never found. What search teams did find were massive humanoid footprints ranging from sixteen inches to nearly twenty three inches long pressed deep into the soil along a remote creek drainage. Joe's team was briefed by an unnamed civilian and given a single objective: locate and eliminate the creatures responsible.

What followed was a harrowing two day hunt through old growth forest that culminated in the killing of four creatures, including a female, a juvenile estimated at around five feet tall, and a massive adult male standing over eight feet tall that charged the team and injured two soldiers before being brought down. Within hours of the kills, an unmarked black helicopter arrived carrying a civilian recovery team that bagged the bodies and flew them out to an unknown location. The soldiers were debriefed, told the mission never happened, and ordered to never speak of it again. Matt believes every word Joe told him that night, and he wants you to hear it.

In this episode, Brian sits down with makeup and special-effects artist, filmmaker, and longtime Patterson–Gimlin film researcher Bill Munns for a deep discussion about the enduring controversy surrounding the PGF. Drawing on decades of study and an archive of numerous scanned film copies, Munns explains how he works to separate authentic image details from artifacts introduced through duplication and degradation over time.

Munns shares that one of the key details that first compelled him to take the film seriously was the smooth continuity visible along the figure’s back and neck, something he argues would have been extraordinarily difficult, if not impossible, to achieve with 1967-era suit technology. That observation became the starting point for his long-running technical analysis of the footage.The conversation also explores the documentary Capturing Bigfoot and the heavily debated approximately 40 second clip that appears to recreate action associated with the Patterson–Gimlin film. After personally examining the physical film, Munns says he identified it as a Kodachrome II camera original bearing a 1966 manufacture date code and believes it was likely shot on a Kodak K-100.

At the same time, he emphasizes that a date code alone does not establish when the footage was actually filmed.Based on his analysis, Munns concludes that the clip is best understood as an after-the-fact replica rather than a pre-PGF rehearsal. He points to specific visual details, including what he describes as unnaturally white feet, as evidence supporting that conclusion.

Rather than asking audiences to accept one interpretation outright, he encourages careful, critical comparison of both possibilities and argues that the most important question is not chain of custody, but how the footage itself compares to the original PGF.Munns also discusses his belief that separate “ape suit” footage may have existed, which could help explain long-circulating stories about a burned suit without necessarily proving that the Patterson–Gimlin film itself was a hoax. He closes by revealing that he is currently writing a follow-up book that will further address the controversy and expand on his findings.

It's been a while since I've written a newsletter entry, but something happened on March 12, 2026 that demanded a response. A new documentary called Capturing Bigfoot, directed by Marq Evans, premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival in Austin, Texas, and the shockwaves have been reverberating through the Bigfoot community ever since.

The film presents newly discovered sixteen-millimeter Kodachrome footage allegedly shot in 1966, a full year before the famous Patterson-Gimlin Film was recorded at Bluff Creek, California. According to the documentary, Clint Patterson, the youngest son of Roger Patterson, has gone on camera to reveal what he says is the truth about the most famous piece of Bigfoot footage ever captured.

The claims are significant, the evidence appears to be serious, and the community is divided in ways it hasn't been in decades.In this special episode, I read the latest edition of my free newsletter in its entirety, walking listeners through everything that's been reported about the documentary, the newly discovered footage, and the firestorm of reaction that has followed.

I share details from my own direct conversations with key figures in the Bigfoot research community, including Emmy-winning filmmaker and MonsterQuest creator Doug Hajicek, who offers a compelling alternative interpretation of the footage, and Bill Munns, widely regarded as the leading authority on the Patterson-Gimlin Film, who has physically examined the so-called smoking gun clip and reached a very different conclusion than the one the documentary is selling. I also discuss Eric Palacios's reaction after attending a screening of the film, my outreach to director Marq Evans for a potential interview and advance screening, and my ongoing efforts to secure a statement from Bob Gimlin himself. Most importantly, I make the case I've been making for years — one that matters now more than ever. 

The Patterson-Gimlin Film can be fake and Sasquatch can still be real. Drawing on nearly forty years of personal research, sixteen years of law enforcement experience, my own encounters including a sighting from approximately ten feet away in Washington State in 2024 while filming the My Bigfoot Life documentary, and hundreds of conversations with credible eyewitnesses from across the continent, I argue that the Sasquatch phenomenon has never depended on a single piece of film and never should have.

The first goes back about twenty years, when longtime partners Brian, a licensed pilot, and Casey, who owned a Piper Cub, flew into the Chugach Range to check their winter trap lines. What started as a routine trip quickly turned unsettling when they spotted a fast-moving, humanlike figure in the wilderness. As they continued, they found traps sprung, missing, or disturbed in ways that made no sense. The unease only deepened when they came across foul-smelling hair and began hearing repeated screams and the sound of something large moving through the area. Both men were overcome by the terrifying sense that they were being watched—and worse, intensely hated. After firing shots and making a desperate retreat toward the plane, Brian became physically sick as an even larger creature seemed to move in on them.

They managed to escape by air, but not before realizing later that the creature had taken Brian’s snowshoe. The experience left such a deep mark that it strained their friendship for years, until they recently reconnected and finally spoke about what happened.

Fred’s second story follows Chad, a cyclist traveling north of Trapper Creek, whose night in the wild took a disturbing turn. He discovered that his hammock strap had been ripped loose and that some of his gear had been moved into a tree, as though something had been deliberately toying with him.

Things escalated when he encountered a dark-faced figure that let out a scream so powerful and unnatural it sent him fleeing. In a chilling twist, another cyclist miles away also heard the scream and decided to get out of the area as well.

Brian welcomes Joey from Maryland, whose connection to the episode begins with a heartfelt voicemail about Bigfoot Country. Joey shares how deeply he related to the book’s themes of childhood, solitude, and finding refuge in the woods, explaining that his own upbringing followed a similar path.

That conversation opens the door to one of Joey’s earliest and most unforgettable encounters. As a child in the mid-to-late 1980s, he was near a local creek when he spotted something extraordinary: a tiny white creature, roughly two feet tall, descending a tree. He describes it as chimp-like, juvenile in appearance, and unlike anything he had ever seen before. The moment became even more unsettling when the creature locked eyes with him, then vanished as it moved around the trunk.

Years later, after developing a deeper interest in Bigfoot, Joey began experiencing other strange events in the same general area. After playing the Sierra Sounds near the creek, his dogs later refused to leave the porch while he heard eerie, chimp-like vocal responses coming from the darkness. About a week later, the activity escalated when loud, forceful tree knocks erupted near his home, sounding like a bat striking wood. Even his highly trained protection dogs were visibly shaken. Each time Joey tried to record the sounds, they stopped, only to begin again farther away.

Joey also reflects on other unsettling experiences over the years, including being seemingly followed by dueling owls near the Potomac and, more recently in 2025, spotting an unusually large canine crossing the road. Throughout the conversation, Brian explores the rarity of juvenile, chimp-like Sasquatch descriptions and offers thoughtful caution about using the Sierra Sounds in the field.

 He shares experiences of his own involving multiple unexplained phenomena and suggests that these moments may heighten awareness rather than “mark” a person in any permanent way.

He also points to dogs’ behavior as one of the most telling indicators that something unusual may be happening nearby.

Part Nine brings Bigfoot Country to its climax, and it does so by circling back to where every great investigation begins — with the people who lived it.After years of building this platform, the floodgates finally opened. Witnesses who had been listening from the shadows for months, sometimes years, started stepping forward. People like Patricia Ann Holloway, a seventy-one-year-old retired librarian from Pennsylvania who had carried a secret since 1973 — the summer she was nineteen years old and working at a Baptist church camp in the Allegheny National Forest.

What she saw standing at the tree line that night, seven feet tall with eyes reflecting her flashlight beam, changed her forever. She kept quiet for nearly fifty years. When the only other witness — a twelve-year-old camper named Susan — passed away from cancer, Patricia decided she wasn't going to take that secret to her grave too.Her story opened the door for dozens more. A ninety-year-old former logger from Vermont who remembered the creatures the old timers simply called the Wild Men. A woman from Mississippi passing down her grandmother's encounter from the nineteen twenties. A retired park ranger from California who had spent forty years documenting things he could never put in an official report.

But the witnesses were only half the story. Researchers started coming forward too — scientists and academics who had sacrificed careers and reputations to study something the mainstream refused to acknowledge. A primatologist who recognized authentic dermal ridges on a footprint cast. A geneticist with hair samples that matched no known species. An anthropologist who had collected indigenous oral histories from around the world and found an undeniable pattern running through all of them.Then came the most dangerous interview of all.

Jerry AKA Caser Rebel is back with a chilling look at the 1978–1979 encounters around Kaser, North Carolina, near the South Mountains and Carpenter’s Knob. The first encounter comes from a man we’ll call Ben, a doctor flying a Piper Super Cub through the remote country near Hell Bent Creek above the Yukon River with his ten-year-old son. After landing near a quiet pond to stretch their legs and eat lunch, Ben notices his son repeatedly staring across the water at what the boy believes is a man standing in the distance. At first Ben assumes it’s a trick of the light or a distant hunter, but as they prepare to leave he finally sees it for himself. A large, dark figure rises upright near the pond and begins moving slowly along the shoreline.

As Ben starts warming up the plane for departure, the creature suddenly appears much closer, squatting roughly forty-five feet from the wing and silently watching the boy. Realizing the situation may be dangerous, Ben readies a shotgun while getting the aircraft airborne.

As they circle back for a final pass, he sees the figure return to the pond where his son had been standing, lowering its head as if sniffing the ground.The second account comes from a young woman named Shiloh, who was berry picking with her cousin outside a small unnamed village in rural Alaska. 

While gathering berries on the tundra, the girls notice a towering figure standing among the brush. Shiloh later described the creature as being nearly nine feet tall and strangely mesmerizing, as if it were somehow pulling her attention toward it. Her cousin sensed something was wrong and snapped her out of the strange trance-like state before they ran back to the village. Later that day several relatives armed themselves and followed the enormous tracks left behind.

Not far from where the girls had been picking berries, they spotted the same towering figure swaying in the brush. When the men approached, the creature suddenly charged. Warning shots rang out, and the massive figure stumbled before dropping onto all fours and disappearing into the tundra. Weeks later, the village smokehouse was discovered knocked over with salmon missing.

When one of the men tracked the disturbance, he reportedly saw the same creature moving away through the brush carrying long strips of dried salmon in its arms.

But the closer Brian gets to the truth, the harder certain forces push back. A devastating act of arson destroys his home, his studio, and nearly everything he and Daniel have built together. 

The local investigation is a sham, but an ATF agent named Sarah Brown finds evidence of professional-grade incendiary devices and a cover-up that reaches far above her pay grade.

Brian welcomes Tim from Macon County, North Carolina, whose interest in Bigfoot began in an unexpected way. Years ago, he and a friend decided to prank the friend’s sons by creating fake tracks in the woods, a harmless hoax meant to stir up a little excitement. But not long after, the joke seemed to take on a life of its own.

Beginning in 2008, Tim says unexplained activity started occurring on the property—events that made him question whether something real might be moving through those woods. What followed were a series of strange and unsettling incidents. 

Tim recalls a raccoon being violently killed while a deep roar and whistling sounds echoed through the area. He also describes rocks and sticks being thrown, piercing screams from the darkness, and repeated disturbances around the trails, deer stands, and feeders scattered throughout the property. Over time, these experiences escalated from mysterious noises to what Tim believes were direct encounters. 

One involved a creature he photographed alongside researcher Dwight Campbell. Another encounter occurred while Tim was bow hunting, when he says a large figure appeared within roughly twenty feet of him. In a separate experience in Cades Cove, he observed something during the daytime using thermal equipment. More recently, in 2022, Tim describes seeing a creature on the ground that crawled away from the area rather than standing upright. Tim also recounts a trip following the South Carolina Bigfoot Festival, when his group returned to a location where bluff-charge vocalizations had previously been reported. 

The area had already generated stories from other witnesses, including reports of glowing eyes and even claims of a dogman-like creature moving through the woods.Despite skepticism from some people in his life, Tim remains focused on documenting what he believes is genuine activity. One of the moments that left the strongest impression on him involved hearing what sounded like two creatures communicating back and forth, an experience that reinforced his belief that these beings possess intelligence and complex behavior.

Today, Tim continues researching and sharing his experiences while encouraging others to approach the subject with curiosity and an open mind. He also promotes his work with Sasquatch Recon, North Carolina Investigates, and his online channels, where he documents ongoing field efforts and discussions surrounding the mystery.

In this installment, Daniel finds something he never expected: normalcy. A job at a local pizza place, the simple rhythm of work and home, the blessed absence of danger. In this episode, Fred takes us beyond simple encounter stories and into the foundation of how knowledge is preserved in his culture. He explains the vital role oral tradition plays in passing down history, survival skills, and encounters with what many in his community know as the Hairy Man. Written documentation is rare. 

He points out that “Story Knife” remains one of the few works that even attempts to capture fragments of that tradition in print. For generations, stories were not recorded in books—they were carried in memory, tied to landmarks, seasons, and lived experience. Fred also reflects on navigation, describing how descriptive mapping and deep familiarity with terrain once guided people across vast, unforgiving landscapes long before GPS existed. In his view, those skills are not outdated relics—they still matter. The conversation then shifts to a chilling account Fred heard in 2004 from a man named Jerry in Togiak. Jerry described a winter hunting trip west of Non Dalton that took a terrifying turn. 

During the hunt, a scream erupted across the tundra so intense that it scattered nearby wolves. What followed was even more disturbing. A Hairy Man reportedly struck a caribou with a single backhand blow to the ribs, dropping it. Jerry and his companions salvaged and packed the meat, trying to focus on the task at hand, but the encounter was far from over. The creature returned, and in an overwhelming display of strength and dominance, it threw their packed quarters over a ridge.

The men abandoned the situation and escaped on their snow machines, shaken by what they had witnessed. Jerry also recalled an earlier sighting along the West Channel of the Nok River, where he saw a tall, young, slender Hairy Man that fled the area and swam away, avoiding contact. Fred then shares experiences from a property owner near Juneau, referred to as “Sam,” whose encounters unfolded over time rather than in a single dramatic moment. 

Sam described strange whistling that mimicked human tones, the sound and sight of bipedal movement in the trees, prolonged wood-banging that echoed through the forest, rocks landing near hunters, and even owl hoots that felt deliberately imitative rather than natural. Alongside these physical signs was a persistent, oppressive feeling in the woods—an atmosphere that made it clear something was present. Sam hesitated to speak openly for fear of ridicule, something Fred notes is common among witnesses.

He also discusses a website encounter map and highlights recurring patterns across Alaska: whistles, rock throwing, wood knocks, and vocal mimicry that suggest these accounts follow familiar themes.

Jerry and the Sasquatch Recon crew return as Jerry shares how a childhood viewing of The Legend of Boggy Creek and a 1977 book fair purchase sparked his fascination with Bigfoot—an interest that intensified after moving near the South Mountains, where he began finding tree breaks pointing toward water. By 2015 he was hearing wood knocks and eerie vocalizations, and in 2017 he and his wife watched a large figure glide effortlessly through a cornfield beside their home.

A 2019 sighting by family members near his pasture led to escalating activity around his property, including moved objects, opened feed barrels, dragged water containers, and late-night pounding on the house.After appearing in a 2021 Fox documentary, others began sharing their encounters, inspiring him to interview dozens of witnesses and launch a show focused on credible reports. He recounts chilling experiences while tending animals—piercing whistles, bassy vocal blasts, and two overwhelming howls that stirred deep fear and inspired his poem “The Haunted.” Rock-throwing incidents, damaged property, and reports of severely injured or killed animals in the region reinforce his belief that something powerful is operating in the area.

Research into a late-1970s wave of sightings, along with local lore and unusual tracks, leaves him open to multiple phenomena, including the possibility of “dog men.”

He discusses regional names like “Knobby,” “boogers,” and “wampus,” seasonal movement patterns along Wards Creek, and the way his animals react to disturbances. The episode closes with what he considers his strongest evidence: video footage of an exceptionally tall white or gray figure standing in a neighboring pasture, appearing taller than nearby six-and-a-half-foot fence posts.

Fred, a tribal council member from Dillingham, Alaska, returns to share chilling accounts of encounters with what he calls the “hairy man.” In his First Nations culture, these experiences are not sensationalized—they’re part of oral history and everyday life in remote Alaska.

In the first story, two relatives—“Penelope” and “Jasmine”—were camping on a gravel bar near the confluence of the Nuuk and Ishak rivers while heading to Harris Creek to prospect for gold. During the night, they heard strange noises and saw multiple sets of eyeshine—white and amber/red—watching from the darkness. Penelope witnessed a massive, dark, man-like figure with long arms moving along the riverbank.

What followed escalated quickly: a blood-curdling scream, pebbles tossed into the water, and even a broken birch tree thrown into the channel. A towering figure—estimated around 12 feet tall—paced, swayed, squatted, showed its teeth, and vocalized while more eyeshine appeared in the distance, suggesting multiple beings.After a warning shot was fired, the activity briefly stopped—but later something crossed the channel, circled their tent while huffing like a bear, screamed from just 15 feet away, and even rocked a large tree stump near camp. Shots were fired from inside the tent before the pair fled in their boat, leaving their camp behind.

 Reports of screams, thrown objects, tracks, and even UFO sightings are common in the remote regions he represents.He then shares a second account from about 20 years ago. Two friends, “Benson” and “Terry,” set out on a 10-day fly-fishing trip that ended early after repeated frightening events. They experienced unnatural silence, large tracks, and the constant feeling of being watched. Terry saw a large man-like figure in the tundra and later encountered something 8 to 8.5 feet tall standing in a creek, unfazed by shouting. On the sixth day, Benson followed a strange melodic whistle and appeared briefly trance-like before Terry stopped him.

That night, Benson finally saw the creature clearly—squatted about 20 feet from camp with glowing red eyeshine, a wrinkled face, massive hands, and large block-like teeth framed by thick fur. When Terry aimed his rifle, it screamed. Shots were fired, and they believed it may have been hit.The creature returned repeatedly that night and eventually grabbed and threw their tent before running off after more gunfire.

By day seven, they hiked out and were picked up early. Benson later remembered a warning from a Native friend: “Do not mess with the hairy man.”

Brian sits down with Steve of Steve Searches to talk Bigfoot research, drone mapping, and going solo in the wild. Steve traces his fascination back to the Patterson–Gimlin film and The Legend of Boggy Creek, plus years of solo camping on a Montana farm. After military service, he built a career in drafting and mapmaking—eventually integrating drones into terrain mapping, a skill he now uses in Sasquatch research.

Midway through the episode, Brian pauses to provide a detailed update on the disappearance of Kyron Horman (June 4, 2010, Skyline Elementary, Portland). 

He outlines the timeline, investigative shifts, focus on stepmother Terri Horman, reported inconsistencies, and alleged murder-for-hire claims. With renewed review efforts under a new DA in 2025—including digitization and planned FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit involvement—the case remains open. A $50,000 reward is still being offered for credible information.

Back in the forest, Steve shares experiences from Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Mount St. Helens, including a 2008 incident near Ape Cave involving sudden silence and a strong animal odor. Around 2020–2021, he connected with regional researchers, began pro bono drone work, attended Squatch festivals, and launched Steve Searches (YouTube, Facebook, and blog) in 2023. He’s since collaborated with Michelle Heaton, the Sweet Home Oregon Sasquatch Research Group, and Sasquatch Highway.

Steve describes his evidence-first approach—mapping, measuring, documenting, and presenting findings without firm conclusions—while remaining open to high-strangeness elements. He also discusses solo field safety and recounts intense 2023–2024 encounters, including loud rock clacks, nighttime footsteps around his tent, and a large limb crashing across a road as he packed up—an event that ended the trip.

A fishing guide from Everglades City recounts the night a pair of glowing eyes tracked him across the water in the Ten Thousand Islands. A teenage girl in Oconee County, South Carolina watched something unfold from a rhododendron thicket while her daddy's bluetick hound shook itself half to death against her leg.

The stories stretch across state lines and keep coming. Arkansas. Tennessee. Virginia. A coon hunter and his cousin tree something in the Ouachitas that no lantern light should ever have revealed. A family of four flees a Cherokee National Forest campsite at three in the morning. In the spring of 1979, a quiet cattle farmer in the Appalachian foothills of eastern Tennessee followed a strange sound into the timber beyond his fence line. Over the next few weeks, I'm gonna be sharing my new book with you—start to finish. The whole thing. It's called Bigfoot Country. All told, it's around eight hours of narration. So, I'll be putting it out in multiple episodes. And honestly... I've been sitting on this for a long time. I'm excited—and a little nervous—to finally put it out there. But before we jump in, I wanna take a minute. Just you and me.

What you're about to hear is loosely based on my life. 

Some of it happened exactly the way I tell it. No embellishment, no polish. Other parts are rooted in real experiences—real people, real moments, real emotions—but maybe stretched a bit, or reimagined, to help the story breathe. And then there are parts where… well, you get to decide what you believe.I also wanna be upfront about something. Early on, you might find yourself wondering where this is all headed. There's a lot of groundwork—family, childhood, personal history. Just know this: it's going somewhere. This book is about Bigfoot. That's the destination. I promise. Just trust me long enough to get there. At its heart, this is a story about my earliest experiences with the strange and unexplained. 

It starts with something that happened to me when I was twelve years old—an encounter with what I believe was a Sasquatch. That moment stayed with me. It shaped a lot of who I became. And for years, I struggled with how—or even if—I should ever tell that story. Because how do you talk about something the world insists isn't real? How do you open yourself up like that, knowing people are gonna judge you, doubt you, or dismiss you entirely?But these stories have always mattered to me. This book has always mattered. And at some point, I realized I was done keeping it all tucked away. Here's the thing, though—I didn't just write about Bigfoot. I wrote about me. All of me. My childhood. My parents. My failures. My struggles. And yeah… Dani.

I know that part isn't gonna sit well with everyone. I get that. Some folks are gonna have opinions, and that's their right. But for me, leaving any of that out would've been dishonest. I can't ask you to trust me with these experiences and then hide pieces of who I am. I can't tell my story without including the person who stood beside me through the hardest parts of it. That's just not how I live, and it's not how this book was written.Believe me, I thought about sanding down the rough edges. Making it cleaner. Safer. Easier to swallow. Cutting out the parts that might make people uncomfortable. But I couldn't do it. I've spent too much of my life holding back, and I'm done with that.So this is me. This is my story. All of it. Some of what you'll hear happened exactly as I describe it. 

Some of it is how I imagine things might have gone—if the timing had been different, if I'd pushed harder, if the world worked the way I think it sometimes should.And one last thing before we start—this is Book One. There's more coming. A lot more. This is just the beginning. I hope you enjoy Bigfoot Country... as much as I did writing it. 

Part One is called The Hollow, and it begins in September of 1984. I was eleven years old, just a few months shy of twelve, and my family had just moved to a place called Lyerly, Georgia. Population next to nothing. No stoplight. One gas station. The kind of town where everybody knew everybody's business before you even finished doing it. We moved into an old house at the end of a dirt road—a house that looked like something had crawled there to die. White paint gone gray. Porch sagging in the middle. Eighty acres of woods stretching out behind it like a wall. 

My father, Jerry Patterson, was a drinker. A man whose silence usually meant a storm was building. My mother, Jean, was small but fierce in the ways that mattered—even if she couldn't fix the things that were broken in our family. She stayed. She always stayed. The woods became my...

Fred from the SubArctic Alaska Sasqutch YouTube Channel shares three chilling Sasquatch encounters from the Last Frontier. A surveyor working near Tuck in the late 1980s finds himself stalked by multiple creatures while mapping remote acreage north of the Parks Highway. What begins with rock throwing and glimpses of a gray-skinned, black-eyed figure through his transit scope escalates when his entire campsite ends up mysteriously hoisted into a tree. The harassment continues as trees crash across his path and shadowy figures close in from all directions.

Fred also shares Brian's harrowing experience on the Richardson Highway near Delta Junction during a winter trip to help a friend with a broken-down snow machine. A black figure spotted on the snow leads to a terrifying pursuit through waist-deep powder, complete with a screaming creature and a truck that almost fails to start.

The episode closes with Clint's snow machining trip near Paxton at the start of the Denali Highway, where a massive white Sasquatch with dark roots showing through its fur leaves enormous tracks in the snow. One witness ends up pinned under an 800 RMK snow machine, when his buddy drops the machine and runs.

In early September of 1799, the Stone Expedition reunited deep in the unmapped wilderness beyond the Ohio River. Nine men gathered at the designated rendezvous, carrying fresh provisions and renewed hope. They could not have known that within weeks, two of them would be dead, and the survivors would carry secrets that would haunt their bloodlines for generations.

This episode chronicles the expedition's darkest chapter as they pressed deeper into forbidden territory than any Europeans had ventured before. The creatures that had watched them for months began gathering in unprecedented numbers, converging from all directions toward something none of the men could see but all could feel drawing them forward. When the expedition crossed into hostile territory without realizing it, the fragile peace they had built shattered in a single night of violence that left Henri Beaumont scattered across a forest clearing in pieces too small to bury. Guided by creatures whose motives remained unknowable, the surviving members discovered a hidden valley—a vast sanctuary concealed between mountain walls where hundreds, perhaps thousands, of these beings had lived in complete isolation since before human civilization began.

Tonight we're doing something a little different here on Sasquatch Odyssey. We're setting aside the witness interviews and the evidence analysis and the investigative reports, and instead we're gathering around the fire to tell a story the old fashioned way. This is a Christmas tale about a young Sasquatch named Thorn who has spent the autumn watching a human family from the treeline above their mountain cabin.

He's fascinated by their laughter, their warmth, their strange rituals of carving pumpkins and roasting marshmallows and dragging trees inside their homes to cover them with lights. His kind has always kept their distance from humans, but something about this family calls to him in ways he doesn't quite understand. On Christmas Eve, when the teenage daughter Emma leaves a plate of cookies on the porch railing and looks up toward the treeline with a knowing smile, everything changes. 

Thorn makes a decision that will alter the course of his life and theirs. What follows is a journey through a blizzard, an impossible winter rose, a lost little boy named Jacob who followed what he thought were Santa's footprints into the storm, and a rescue that bridges the vast distance between two worlds that were never supposed to meet. 

Pour yourself something warm, dim the lights, and let the snow fall as we journey deep into the ancient Appalachian hills for a Christmas Eve you won't soon forget.

I love a good Christmas story.
The kind where something strange and wonderful happens out in the wilderness. Where the magic of the season reaches places most people never go. Where even the darkest corners of the forest feel touched by something warm and old and meaningful.Over the years, I’ve told you stories like that.

Stories of Sasquatch sightings on snowy December mornings.
Of mysterious gifts left on remote cabin doorsteps.
Of unexplained tracks leading to and from places where no tracks should exist at all.But tonight, friends, I’m not here to warm your heart.Tonight, I’m here to freeze your blood.

South Carolina. 1985.

A young insurance adjuster named Gerald Hutchins inherits a remote cabin deep in the forest from his great-uncle Amos. The old man had lived alone out there for more than twenty years, and the family whispered that he came back from the war… changed. Haunted. Given to muttering in languages no one recognized. Drawing strange symbols he would immediately burn in the fireplace.Gerald decides the cabin would be the perfect place to spend Christmas with his wife, Ellen, and their thirteen-year-old son, Marcus.

A real holiday, he tells them. The kind they used to have before television and convenience took over. Just a family, a fire, and the quiet peace of the winter woods.What Gerald doesn’t tell them is what he found when he first visited the cabin alone.The chains hanging above the fireplace.

Some punishments are older than coal in a stocking. And some things that were meant to stay in the old country followed our ancestors across the ocean—hiding in the shadows of their ships, waiting patiently for the right moment to remind us that the old ways never truly died.

They just learned how to wait.Long before Santa Claus became the jolly gift-giver we know today, the winter solstice was a time of fear as much as celebration in the Alpine regions of Europe. While Saint Nicholas rewarded good children, his dark companion dealt with the rest.

Krampus. Half-goat. Half-demon. All nightmare. A creature with curved horns, a serpentine tongue, chains forged in hellfire, and birch switches for the wicked. A basket on its back to carry its prizes away—down to whatever hell it called home.

Krampusnacht, celebrated on December fifth, saw young men dress as the creature and roam the streets, terrorizing towns. But the oldest stories—the ones whispered long before costumes—spoke of something far older than men in masks. A being that existed before Christianity tried to tame it. A being that still walks the winter forests when nights grow long and the barriers between worlds wear thin.A being that always comes back.

This story is about something very evil.

This is not a show I ever planned to do. In all my years of podcasting, I've never felt compelled to look back and take stock of where we've been. But twenty twenty-four and twenty twenty-five have been different. These years have been brutal for our community, and I couldn't stay silent any longer. We lost giants. Real giants. Men who shaped the very foundation of modern Sasquatch research and carried the torch forward into the twenty-first century. 

Tonight, I'm setting aside whatever differences might have existed to honor what they gave us and acknowledge that we've lost some truly important figures.Doctor Jeff Meldrum passed away in September of twenty twenty-five after a brief battle with brain cancer. He was sixty-seven years old. The full professor of anatomy and anthropology at Idaho State University gave our community something precious: legitimacy. With his collection of over three hundred footprint casts and his landmark book Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science, he picked up where Grover Krantz left off and continued the tradition of academic rigor in a field that desperately needed it.

I had the privilege of sitting down with Jeff just a few weeks before he passed, and that conversation will stay with me forever.

Henry Franzoni died on August twenty-second, twenty twenty-four, also at sixty-seven. If Meldrum brought scientific credibility to Bigfoot research, Henry brought the internet. Back in nineteen ninety-three, he created the first Bigfoot website and the first online discussion group, the Internet Virtual Bigfoot Conference. From that foundation grew pretty much every Bigfoot organization and website you see today. 

I interviewed Henry about a year before he passed, and afterward he sent me a signed copy of his book, Failing in a Cooler Way: Why I Never Found Bigfoot. That title tells you everything you need to know about who Henry was as a person.

Steven Streufert, owner of Bigfoot Books in Willow Creek, California, is also gone now. Steven was an institution, a historian and scholar who knew the stories, the players, and the timeline of how this phenomenon evolved from local legend to international sensation. He was a key member of the Bluff Creek Project, the team that rediscovered the exact location where Patterson and Gimlin filmed their famous footage in nineteen sixty-seven. Steven and I had our public disagreements in his Facebook group, but that's what a community of researchers should look like. We can all have our opinions and still show mutual respect for one another.Beyond the deaths, we lost places too. 

The Bigfoot Discovery Museum in Felton, California, closed its doors after twenty years. And in December of twenty twenty-four, two men from Portland died from exposure in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest while searching for Sasquatch on Christmas Eve.

I explore the legacies of these three researchers, discuss the current state of Sasquatch research, examine the Patterson-Gimlin film at fifty-seven years, address what the skeptics say, talk about the nearly one thousand witnesses I've interviewed over almost forty years, and reflect on the lessons we can learn from the men we lost. I also share a word about safety for anyone venturing into the wilderness in pursuit of this mystery.

The disagreements don't matter. The bickering doesn't matter. What matters is the work. What matters is the pursuit. These men spent their lives investigating something that most of society considers a joke, and they did it because they believed the truth was worth pursuing. Their torches have been passed. We'll do our best to carry them forward.
