Around one third of marriages in Australia end in divorce. Generally, the financial impacts of separation on women are more significant than those felt by men. Contributions splitting can be a powerful strategy to boost retirement savings, help with balance equalisation and tax-effectively manage insurance held through super. While contributions splitting isn’t required to be offered by all super funds, where your clients have the choice, it can open a number of planning opportunities. Considering how eligible clients can split certain super contribution with their spouse can be a powerful strategy to boost retirement savings, help with balance equalisation or tax-effectively manage insurance held through super.
