Thu, 25 Apr 2024 - 112 - Creation & Church History w/ Jackson Greer | What did Christians throughout history believe about creation?
Listen to this fascinating conversation with Jackson Greer about creation through the lens of church history. Over the last 2,000 years, what did Christians believe about creation, the age of the earth, and the material world? What cultural beliefs about creation and the body set Christians at odds with the world? How can knowing their stories help us understand our story in church history?
Jackson argues we need the church fathers for such a moment as this, and I think you will agree. Enjoy!

In this episode, Young makes the case for the Christian position know as "young earth," claiming Genesis 1 teaches God made the world in six 24 hour days. Jeffery uses geology, astronomy, and Jesus to refute google and back up his claim that the earth is young. Enjoy.

Wed, 28 Feb 2024 - 110 - Old Earth | Why Jimmy Slack believes the earth is billions of years old | Science & Creation
Jimmy Slack will be the first to say both Young Earth and Old Earth Christians agree about the WHO, WHAT, and WHY of creation—which are the most important! However, Christians often disagree about the exact HOW and WHEN of creation. The main distinction stems from the question: Does the word “day” (Yom in Hebrew) in Genesis 1 refer to 24 hours or a long period?
In this podcast episode, Slack makes the case for why he believes “day” in the text refers to a long period of time. Slack, once an atheist, has studied creation and science for the past 30+ years. He deeply loves Jesus, the Bible, and his glorious Creator.
So whether you believe in young Earth or old Earth or not sure, you will find this interview fascinating (I know I did). And yes, I ask Jimmy about dinosaurs. Enjoy!

"8. THE PERFECTED KINGDOM One day Christ will return. There will be a great division. His enemies will be separated from his goodness in hell, but his people will join him in a perfect new creation. Then at last the gospel promises will be completely fulfilled. The book of revelation describes a fully restored kingdom: God’s people, Christians from all nations, in God’s place, the new creation (heaven), under God’s rule and therefore enjoying his blessing. And nothing can spoil this happy ending. It is no fairy story; they really will live happily ever after." -- Vaughan Roberts

Thu, 23 Feb 2023 - 95 - The Proclaimed Kingdom (Acts-Jude)
7. THE PROCLAIMED KINGDOM. By his death and resurrection Jesus did all that was necessary to put everything right again and completely restore God’s kingdom. But he did not finish the job when he was first on earth. He ascended into heaven and made it clear that there would be a delay before he returned. The delay is to enable more people to hear about the good news of Christ so they can put their trust in him and be ready for him when he comes. We live during this period, which the Bible calls “the last days”. It began on the Day of Pentecost when God sent the Spirit to equip his church to tell the whole world about Christ. -- Vaughn Roberts

Thu, 02 Feb 2023 - 94 - The Present Kingdom (The Gospels)
6. THE PRESENT KINGDOM 400 years passed after the completion of the Old Testament before Jesus began his public ministry with the words, ‘The time has come... The kingdom of God is near’ (Mk 1:15). The waiting was over; God’s king had come to establish God’s kingdom. His life, teaching and miracles all proved that he was who he said he was: God himself in human form. He had the power to put everything right again, and he chose a very surprising way of doing it: by dying in weakness on a cross. It was by his death that Jesus dealt with the problem of sin and made it possible for human beings to come back into relationship with his Father. The resurrection proved the success of Jesus’ rescue mission on the cross and announced that there is hope for our world. Those who trust in Christ can look forward to eternal life with him. Thu, 26 Jan 2023 - 93 - The Prophesied Kingdom (Isaiah-Malachi)
5. THE PROPHESIED KINGDOM After the death of King Solomon civil war broke out and the kingdom of Israel split into two parts: Israel in the north and Judah in the south. Neither was strong. After 200 years of separate existence, the northern kingdom of Israel was destroyed by the Assyrians. The southern kingdom struggled on for another century, but then it too was conquered and its inhabitants were taken into exile in Babylon. During this depressing period in their history God spoke to the people of Israel and Judah through some prophets. He explained that they were being punished for their sin but still offered hope for the future. The prophets pointed forward to a time when God would act decisively through his King, the Messiah, to fulfil all his promises. The people of Judah must have thoughts that that time had come when they were allowed to return from exile, but God made it clear that the great time of salvation was still in the future. That is where the Old Testament ends: waiting for God’s King to appear to introduce his kingdom. -- Vaughan Roberts

4. THE PARTIAL KINGDOM (Part 1) God’s promises to Abraham are partially fulfilled in Israel’s history. Through the exodus from Egypt, God makes Abraham’s descendants his very own people. The blessing is marked chiefly by God’s presence with his people in the tabernacle. -- Vaughan Roberts Buy Book

- 60 - What Does the Bible Really Teach about Everything? (Kevin DeYoung Essay)
What Does the Bible Really Teach about Everything? By Kevin DeYoung
Tale as old as Time (and Older Still)
The first person we meet in the Bible is God (Gen. 1:1). And the first thing we see about this God is that he is before all things (cf. Ps. 90:1-2). God is self-existent, independent, without beginning or end, without equal, the Creator God distinct from his creation, a holy and unrivaled God-eternal, infinite, and, in his essence, unlike anything or anyone that ever was, is, or will be. This is the God we first meet in the first verse of the first book of the Bible.
And this is the God who created all things (Neh. 9:6; Acts 14:15; 17:24), He created heaven and what is in it, the earth and what is in it, and the sea and what is in it (Rev. 10:6). What's more, he made men and women as the crown of his creation, making them in his image and after his likeness (Gen. 1:26). He created them to rule and to reproduce and to have a relationship with him (Gen. 1:26-28; cf. 3:8).
But the first man and the first woman disobeyed God's command. They listened to the Slithering One as he tempted them to doubt the clarity and goodness of God's word (Gen. 3:1-5). They took a bite from the forbidden fruit, and the fruit bit back. When sin entered the world, it was not just a fall; it was a curse. The man, the woman, the Serpent, the ground—all felt the sting of the curse so that "not the way things are supposed to be” became "the way things are." In just retribution for sin, God drove the man and the woman from the garden and placed an angel to guard the way to the tree of life (Gen. 3:24). Their heaven on earth was no more, at least not until God would bring heaven back to earth (Gen. 3:15). The central plotline of the story of Scripture was set in motion: a holy God making a way to dwell in the midst of an unholy people.
Space does not permit a full retelling of this story, but one only has to look at the Promised Land or the temple to see the same narrative carrying forward. The Promised Land was a type of Eden, and Eden was a foreshadowing of the Promised Land. God describes the creation of Israel in the same way he describes the creation of the heavens and the earth (Jer. 4:23-26; 27:5). The boundaries of Eden and the boundaries of Canaan are similar (Gen. 2:10-14; 15:18). When Jacob comes back from the east to enter Canaan, he is met by an angel (Gen. 32:22-32)—an allusion to the angel placed at the entrance to Eden. Joshua likewise encounters a heavenly guardian when approaching the Promised Land by way of Jericho (osh. 5:13-15).

In this episode, we walk in the shoes of the younger son who runs away––in the next episode, we walk in the shoes of the older son who stays home.

Thu, 07 Oct 2021 - 21 - The wrong way we view others (and ourselves)
We often divide people into two groups; good people and bad people. We then view ourselves as good or bad and assume God does the same, loving good people and smiting bad people.
In this episode, you will discover how the Bible lapels people (hint: it's not in categories of good and bad) and why the word "in" makes all the difference.Ask me a question | kory.cunningham@gmail.com
