We’ve got a bumper episode for you this week. First, we begin our series on Geopolitics by doing a deep dive into trade wars, global commerce networks and China’s One-Belt, One-Road initiative. In our Privacy and Security segment, we discuss Unroll.me, a service to unsubscribe from all those pesky email lists. Finally, we check in on our intrepid reporter Jordan Cronje, who’s negotiating latrine duty between superpowers in Djibouti. What could possibly go wrong?

This episode, we dive into the wonderful and wacky world of open source intelligence (OSINT) and ask the question – “What can people find out about me online?”.
OSINT is what private investigators, intelligence agents, corporate researches and even 15 year-old ‘doxxers’ use to find information on a ‘target,’ and there’s a vast array of free tools to help them in their endeavours. We covera number of those tools, from investigation frameworks to automated searching scripts, and then conduct a few ‘live’ searches to show just how effective they are.
Once we discover just how easy it is to find information about people online, we discuss a number of ways which you can ‘hide’ yourself and chat generally about what OSINT means for us as internet citizens.
We also dig into a number of topical issues, including the recent arrest of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and the defamation letters issued by Craig Wright against a number of prominent Bitcoin personalities. To top it off, we discuss the state of gaming on Linux, a cool experiment conducted on the Lightning Network and a ‘blockchain fridge’.

This episode we’re talking all about using blockchain in real life, practical situations. To begin with, we chat about what blockchain actually is, how smart contracts have ‘changed the game’ and how people are using it in the current world.
We look at projects like Estonia’s KSI, Gitcoin and Everipedia for some great examples of how people are solving real-world problems. We then discuss where we think the technology is going, what makes sense for using blockchain – and what doesn’t.
Along the way, we also:
chat about the Marshall Islands’ upcoming smart banknoteslook at some exciting flight news from Boeing;highlight on the latest from Nextcloud and Raspberry Pi;discuss the latest in privacy headlines; andlook at a great way to check what your browser may be leaking online. Finally, we check in with some old podcast friends – who’ve both seemed to find themselves in some…tricky situations.

2018 has been a wild year in the world of distributed ledger technology. We’ve seen bubbles burst, projects flourish and enterprise adopt blockchain in a big way. As we head into the tail end of 2018 we thought it was the perfect time to take stock, consider where we’ve come from and contemplate where we’re going. In what will probably be a yearly occurrence, we conduct our inaugural ‘State of the Blockchain’ report and discuss the many facets of this emerging industry.
There’s also a great selection of news from across the technology sector this episode – including Walmart giving a blockchain ultimatum to its suppliers, China allegedly compromising a number of huge companies and even progress on a satellite mesh network. Additionally, we take some time to investigate what companies and governments are doing to tackle the transportation problems of the future and some of the ways automated, high-volume transport is already being trialled in controlled environments.
Finally, we check in with our intrepid ‘reporter’ Jordan Cronje, who has successfully escaped Australian Federal Police and has returned to a…surprising reception in a familiar locale.

As time has gone on in the crypto world, we’ve begun to find new ways to harness the possibilities that a truly distributed, immutable and global digital financial network affords us. This episode we dive into one of the most exciting of these innovations – the concept of provably-rare collectibles and smart assets. From gaming and trading to houses and cars, token standards like ERC-721 and ERC-1155 may alter our methods of commerce forever. We’ll explain why in our feature.
There’s also a bucket of news and interesting topics this week, so much in fact that we couldn’t keep it all in without the episode becoming a bit of a marathon. We also discuss the best ways to mitigate malware (that don’t involve ditching Windows/OSX and swapping to Linux) in our Privacy and Security segment, and check in with Dan Dan the ICO Man – who has apparently managed to score himself a job at the SEC…

This episode, we get into all things enterprise blockchain, the sector where much of the blockchain innovation is beginning to come from. We take a sweeping look at some of the major players, including Hyperledger, Microsoft Azure Blockchain, Corda, Quorum, Consenys and the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance. If you’re at all interested about where the big business money is going, and where you should be focusing your efforts if you’re looking to work in this space, you should find this helpful.
Along the way, we cover some encouraging news out of Malta, who are building a very blockchain-friendly regulatory environment, some interesting tidbits from Vitalik Buterin’s latest state-of-Ethereum speech, and some…not so encouraging news from Australia. We also look at Protonmail in our regular Privacy and Security segment, which is an encrypted email client that’s become our host of choice.
To top it all off, Matt tries to convince a caller named Larry that Bitcoin won’t be as ‘irrelevant’ as e-mail and the internet.

It may be the Crypto Winter, but there’s plenty going on in the wider blockchain and tech world. After discussing some of the best and worst performing cryptocurrencies of the last few months, we dig into a prototype mini blockchain computer from IBM, an African free trade agreement which may be the beginning of a huge geo-political shift, and even get our tin-foil hats on regarding the NSA tracking down Bitcoin users.
After that, we dig into NEO – a project billed as China’s answer to Ethereum, which has some quite compelling features and potential use cases. Definitely one to keep an eye on as we move towards enterprise-grade smart contracts.
Also, in a bid to fend off the thousands (see: none) of emails we get asking who we actually are, we figure it’s time we mix it up and begin the show with a little more about us. Let us know if you want to hear more!

Sun, 31 Dec 2017 - 0min - 35 - Episode 8: Aletheia, Bitcoin Bans and Blockchain BunniesListen on YouTube
While bitcoin money trickles down to altcoins and we see crypto becoming a mainstream talking point, we tackle some of the knock-on effects such as use cases, potential bans and futures.
Along the way we get an update on Joe’s tax portfolio, discuss a bucket of news (including the notorious CryptoKitties), look at a decentralised groceries ICO called INS and have an insightful interview with Kade Morton of Aletheia about their decentralised scientific journal publishing platform.
We also get a call from Dan Dan the ICO Man shilling ‘Blockchain Bunnies’, and our intrepid reported Jordan Cronje calls in to vent about the Venezuelan Government stealing his idea for a national cryptocurrency.

With bitcoin soaring and altcoins pumping (and then dumping), we investigate whether we’re in a ‘bubble’ or not. We also discuss the state of ICOs and tackle the elephant on the blockchain: Bitcoin vs Bitcoin Cash.
While we’re at it we touch on the Aragon platform, decentralised organisations, the Bitinfochart tool, Latium, Powerledger and a bunch of news. It’s a jam-packed episode and some timely discussion given the current state of the crypto market.
We also interview a day trader called ‘Trader Tim’ for some trading tips and even get an…interesting voice message from our roving reporter, Jordan Cronje.

Thu, 30 Nov 2017 - 0min - 33 - Episode 6: Altcoins, IOTA and Ransom on the High SeasView on YouTube
While Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash are locked in an epic struggle for supremacy and China makes noises about hunting down crypto miners, we go a little off the beaten track and look at some of the less publicised (but arguably more interesting) news and events in the crypto world.
Along the way we look at Steemit, the first blockchain social media platform, IOTA, the revolution no one really understands yet, and discuss ‘Altcoins’ in our latest Blockchain Basics. It’s a great episode if you’re looking to move outside of Bitcoin, Ethereum or any of the other well-known blockchains.
We also have our first bitcoin ransom request on the show from Jordan Cronje, whose situation seems to be deteriorating with every passing week…

Joe broadcasts live from an unnamed pub on his holiday in the UK as we have special guest Chris Coney drop by for an interview on the Kexcoin ICO, one of the best examples of “real world meets blockchain” that we’ve come across. Along the way we discuss Swedish digital currency, the Piratebay CPU miner, the continuing Whopper Coin Saga and one of the richest Ethereum traders, as well as the Coinigy trading tool.
Unfortunately it seems our intrepid reporter Jordan Cronje was busy stocking up on tin openers and toilet paper (which will apparently be the currency of choice when the system fails) so we weren’t able to get him on the line this episode.
Enjoy!

As usual, we don’t leave you with just one segment, so this week we highlight some big news out of the Virtual Reality world (including discussing the possibility of a VR Blockchain Centre), Coinbase, Microsoft and Rocketpool. Sometimes we have an episode which is so packed full of content it’s impossible for us to find anything to remove. This is one of those episodes. The feature of this episode is an interview with Jon Quidim from theBlockchain Centre, a Melbourne based (and rapidly expanding) not-for-profit who run a large co-working space dedicated to start-ups in the blockchain industry. We had an absolute pleasure spending time down there and we’re sure you’ll enjoy the interview.
In what would be the feature on any other week, we also do a deep dive into the mammoth ‘Internet Trends 2018’ report that was released recently by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. The report covers AI, machine learning, blockchain, subscriptions, advertising and much more, and it’s a brilliant reminder of just how quick the online space is evolving.
