New album from Richard Kruspe and Emigrate can only mean one thing... EXTRA LONG ALBUM REVIEW EPISODE from us! This is the first of a 2 part episode with a special guest commentator. We go through every song on the album and discuss them. So it seems our favourite guitarist decided to gift his fandom with a music video for I'm Still Alive! Since he took the trouble to drop such a delicious morsel in our laps without much warning, it's only fair that we drop everything to dig into the lyrics and analyze the video in a special TWO PART, mega episode! This time on the podcast, we’ve done a two-part analysis on the lyrics of and music video for the new Emigrate song -- “You Can’t Run Away.” Angel drew an inspiration from her college psychology classes that wraps all the seemingly unrelated imagery up in a nice little Freudian bow, Ginger pulled from her literary background, we largely agree, and yet still manage to…bicker like an old married couple? Part 2 of a 2 part episode on the new video 'Platz Eins' from Lindemann. What is a discussion of a Lindemann video without dealing with SEX? The Platz Eins video doubles-down on violence and sex, by including explicit sexual imagery. In this episode we dive deep and discuss whether the 'porn' sequence is necessary to the visual narrative being told and if so, what purpose it serves. We also discuss the use of porn sequences in the new Lindemann stage show, and offer theories about what the 'porn' video that Till Lindemann is rumoured to release on Valentine's Day will entail. Despite starting Platz Eins episode 1 feeling disappointed about the video, through the course of our discussion and arguments, we come around to find that the video actually serves a very distinct purpose and carries with it a clear message about the nature of stardom and sexual power. Deutschland, the new video/single from Rammstein (and produced by Specter-Berlin) became the 'Outrage heard around the world' last week when it dropped to herald their forthcoming album. The final teasers caused media outcry and fan pandemonium. Being the fangirls we are, we weren't immune to the fan-flailing the new video/single caused...but we are also academics so we're back to unpack the gloriousness that is Deutschland.  In amongst our analytical nonsense about the symbolism of the video,  we also talk about: 1. Rammstein as master media manipulators & guerilla social media 'leaks' as a promotion strategy 2. Inappropriate fan fetishism -- in which we find out that Ginger *does* have limits (and Rammstein found one) and we both give away our safewords 3. Our three most powerful images/scenes from the video clip Overall, while the video and song address some heavy (and potentially touchy topics) they are done with such grace and loud (it is Rammstein afterall) dignity, that we can't help but love it. -- Note: There is SO much imagery, symbolism and emotion packed into the song and video that we couldn't cram all of our discussion into one podcast. This week we revisit our predictions for the first Rammstein video in support of the new album and discuss the teasers that have been throwing the fandom into an uproar for the last week, including discussion of: Whether the new video looks at the 'sins' of Germany over the years (linking back to the 7 Deadly Sins teasers that have been released) (*Note this was recorded BEFORE descriptions came out in Berlin press...so we're kind of proud to have got it right on a guess!) Emigrate's new video for the song 'War' elevates what could have been a simple 'rocker singing' video to the level of ART. The song on it's own is a powerful cry, but add in the visuals (courtesy of director David Gesslbauer) and you have a devastatingly beautiful marriage of anguished lyrics and stark visuals. In processing the many layers of this song and video, this week we cover a wide range of topics including: Richard ZK as the embodiment of the God of War (in this video at least...what he does when he's out of the public eye is anyone's guess) Our top three, most powerful visuals from the video and why they shook us up Sex (or in this case naked bodies) as a form media manipulation The media manipulation of war and the essence of human nature Celebrity as a media-created construct The use of RZK as the sole 'human' focus for the video (and the fact that it serves a meaningful purpose) And RZK's biceps as a visual representation of power amidst chaos (just because we are academics, doesn't mean we aren't entitled to a moment of weakness) Ironically, the song is about media manipulation of images, and it is just that sort of manipulation of imagery that makes the video so powerful. It's Angel's birthday this week, so she got to pick the song. This week we dive into the Rammstein back catalogue and talk about the song 'Feuer und Wasser' as we debate whether it is a metaphorical depiction of unrequited lust... or if sometimes a horny guy is just a horny guy. In some ways, Feuer und Wasser is like 'Fish On - The Early Years'...  As always, our discussion covers the mundane, the lyrical and the downright weird as we talk about: The unique view swimmers have when doing breaststroke. The decidedly 'fishlike' quality of swimmer's skin underwater. Till's obsession with fish. And suggest that we'd like to see a reference to the spark shooting female 'core' (Till's words...we're just going with them) in the Ramm4 video.

2019 is going to be a HUGE year for Rammstein and Rammstein fans.... we have a new Rammstein album coming out in April. We have seen teasers of possibly 4-5 new videos. AND we're still waiting for another Emigrate video... What's not to love?! Both Rammstein and Emigrate have been horrible teases, by dropping hints about videos, so this week Angel and Ginger dig out their powers of divination to make predictions about the upcoming Rammstein videos (including what we think the first single will be), and we also discuss the question that is on every Emigrate fans mind -- WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!

By all accounts it was a Hell of a good party -- but that isn't stopping some fans from complaining. This week Angel and Ginger talk about the Rammstein New Year's Eve 2019 show, discussing fan criticism about the set list, set, costumes. Basically, if fans could complain about it...they did. So this week we are tackling fan entitlement and social media interaction, as well as discussing some of our favourite things from the NYE shows, both related specifically to the Rammstein guys and their family/friends who were there.

This week Angel is letting her geek flag fly and turning her analytical mind to the science references in Emigrate lyrics. Surprisingly, the whole Emigrate catalogue is a scientific goldmine. At the end of the day, music and creativity are the elements of life, and in our view, Emigrate lyrics are a life well-lived.

We're  on the 'Naughty List' again -- by this point we should have a standing reservation! This week's discussion explores kink-oriented references in Emigrate lyrics, and being the girls we are, we manage to find them both blatantly embedded in the lyrics ('Hypothetically' speaking) and hidden a bit more deeply (which takes us getting 'Face Down' and dirty to find). In the midst of the discussion of kink references, we talk about: domination, submission, bondage, blindfolds, discipline, the meaning of 'breaking' a sub, nurturing within a D/s relationship, new (and unusual) terms for 'sex' (yeah -- this is a new one even for us), AND... Ginger even makes a serious bet that if Richard Z. Kruspe hears this episode, she'll offer up a weekend's servitude (like the 'good' subbie she is). This week we head back to school to explore Mathematik from (Till) Lindemann. Better known for his work as the singer for  the 'industrial' metal band Rammstein, Mathematik is the new single from an as-yet-unreleased (with no release date in sight) Lindemann album. As always, our discussion roams far and wide to discuss Till (and his school girl outfit), gangster-rap tropes, Till (and his cheerleader outfit), mathematics as a song topic (and our mutual hatred of math), Till rapping (which is mind-blowing in and of itself) and Till's flouting of gender norms. All in all... we found this video oddly-satisfying and disturbing in the best of ways, while the song itself it ridiculously catchy. This week we talk about the Russian book signing and performance tour of Till Lindemann, in support of his books 'Messer' and 'In Stillen Nacht'. While his books of poetry are... interesting... we think our topic of choice is more intriguing -- Till Lindemann and his Gimp Girl! Yes, Till brought a leather, rubber and latex suited gimp girl with him to the signings, and she performed in the shows for the tour as well.  We discuss the 'Gimp Girl' as a gimmick, as well as some irritations we have about the stunt -- and we aren't irritated for the reasons you might think!
