A 40 hour long raid. This was Derrick McManus' day at work in May 1994. Shot 14 times in a mere 5 seconds, and bleeding out on the ground for 3 hours.

In 2016, Dustin La Mont was found not guilty of murder - but, it was a verdict that split New Zealand. After five hours of deliberation, the jury ruled he had acted in self-defence. But, as he left the courtroom, the family of the deceased swore at La Mont, and called him a 'murderer'. 

So why is this case so controversial?

The murder of Boggabilla woman Theresa Binge is still unsolved, more than 20 years later. Why? 

On 29 June 2003, Theresa's body was found approximately 10 kilometres south of the Queensland border on Boomi Road. Forensic evidence indicates the crime was committed elsewhere before her body was moved. 

Former Detective Greg Lamey will never forget this case, even after having left the force and moved on. This case struck him and gripped him, as it did much of the Queensland and NSW communities.

A single incident, can lead police down a path, which if they're not taken off, can lead to horrific consequences.

However, it took a surge of immense courage and resilience to get to where she is now. Chris Coster is Victoria Police's last Chief Inspector. His 45-year career came to an end in 2019, and with it, the rank of Chief Inspector was phased out. CTE is suprisingly common - but, it can only be diagnosed post-mortem, & by a forensic expert. So, how is does an examination work? And why is it so hard to have one done? 

Dr Linda Iles is a forensic neuropathologist, and someone who performs post-mortem brain examinations on people every single day. What she discovers in these exams is extraordinary, and telling to the life that person lead.

3 year old Cheryl Grimmer disappeared without a trace from Fairy Meadow beach in 1970. This story has rocked Australia to its core and is covered by BBC's Fairy Meadow Podcast. March 1986, a car bomb goes off outside the Russell Street Police Headquarters. The two officers involved were Angela Taylor and Carl Donadio. Sadly, Angela passed from her injuries that day, becoming the first Australian policewoman killed in action, but Carl survived and served another 15 years on the force. After working on almost 200 murder investigations in 15 years at the Victoria Police Homicide Squad, Ex-Detective Jeff Maher now trains detectives at the police academy. Maher talks Peter Dupas, who was brought to justice for the murders of Nicole Patterson and Mersina Halvagis. Dupas was brought undone by his own methods. Maher says investigators continue to pursue Dupas for other murders with that unique signature.
