The Philadelphia Flyers came into Saturday’s matchup with the Detroit Red Wings on a 6-game point streak (6-0-1), while the Wings are working their way through a few key injuries and a suspension, leaving them a little shorthanded and cooling off from their hot start (started 14-7-3; 1-3-1 in last 5). Danny Briere has said that the Flyers are still in the rebuilding phase. That’s how the front office is going to proceed. But with 28 games down in the 2023-24 regular season, the Flyers have performed, to this point, like a team deserving of a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And since we know the front office will never orchestrate a “tank,” even if they’re keeping an eye on the future, the fans (and whatever we are) have begun to look at this more than a meaningless season in terms of wins and losses.
