On the morning of May 3rd, 1973, a man out walking his dog in Key Largo, Florida, stepped into a stretch of woods about a hundred yards off U.S. 1. Near mile marker 99.5, under a layer of sticks, leaves and dirt, he found two teenage girls. They were sisters. Maggie Jenkins was 18. Mary Jenkins was 16. They had come down from New Jersey for a spring trip to Key West, and less than 24 hours earlier, someone had seen them standing on the side of the road with their luggage, trying to hitch a ride home. For 53 years, nobody could say who stopped for them. This September, that finally changed.

They had been married for fifteen years. They were raising two daughters together. They attended church together. Caleb worked for Ashley’s father, was close with her family, and had spent years building a life that was connected to hers in almost every possible way. But investigators would soon discover that there was another version of Caleb Flynn’s life. One that Ashley did not fully see. A secret relationship. Thousands upon thousands of messages. Lies, hidden accounts, deleted conversations, and a second life running parallel to the first. And as police began pulling those two lives apart, they also began uncovering something else: the story of what Ashley had been seeing, questioning, and trying to make sense of in the months before she died.

In October of 2021, the body of five-year-old Elijah Lewis was found buried in a Massachusetts park. And when Crystal Sorey heard what had happened to that little boy, something inside her panicked- because she had been trying, for months, to get people to listen to her about her own missing child. Her daughter, Harmony Montgomery. Harmony was supposed to be in first grade. She was supposed to be wearing her glasses. She was supposed to be getting medical care for the condition that left her blind in one eye. She was supposed to be protected. Instead, by the time anyone officially started looking for her, Harmony had not been seen in two years. Harmony did not disappear from a life where everything seemed fine. She disappeared after years of warning signs, reports, custody battles, missed appointments, police calls, allegations of abuse, unstable homes, substance abuse, homelessness, and adults pointing fingers at every other adult in the room. Her mother failed her. Her father failed her. Her stepmother failed her. The courts failed her. Child protective services failed her. The systems built specifically to catch a little girl before she fell through the cracks watched those cracks open wider and wider. This was a child who had already spent so much of her tiny life being moved from place to place, plan to plan, home to home. A child with medical needs. A child with a little brother who loved her, missed her, and kept looking for her at playgrounds because he believed, the way children do, that if he looked hard enough, maybe she would just be there. But Harmony wasn’t there. And for years, the people responsible for knowing where she was, and making sure she was safe and cared for, simply didn’t.

On a Sunday evening in March of 2013, 53 year old Aliza Sherman went to meet with her divorce lawyer in downtown Cleveland, just days before her long and bitter divorce was set to go to trial. She never made it inside. Instead, she was found stabbed to death on the sidewalk outside the office door. Her purse was still with her, her SUV was parked nearby, she was still wearing all of her jewelry. Nothing about it looked like a random act of violence, yet nothing about it made any sense. For years, Aliza’s murder lingered in that terrible space between mystery and suspicion, where answers feel close enough to touch, but never close enough to hold. But as time passed, the case began to expose something even more chilling than the attack itself. Little by little, the names and details surrounding two men emerged, two men Aliza should have been able to trust more than almost anyone in her life. One was tied to the home and family she had built. The other was tied to the legal fight that was supposed to help set her free. And in that realization lies the deepest horror of this case: that the people with the closest access to your life, your fears, your plans, and your vulnerabilities may not be protecting you at all. This story is not just about who killed Aliza Sherman. It is about what can hide beneath the surface for years. About betrayal wrapped in familiarity. About trust handed to the wrong people. In June of 2002, a 14-year-old girl was taken from her bedroom in the middle of the night, from a quiet home in one of the safest neighborhoods in one of the safest cities in America. Her name was Elizabeth Smart. This case has endured for more than two decades, not only because of what happened to Elizabeth, but because of how it happened. It forces us to confront uncomfortable questions about trust, faith, and what happens when deeply held beliefs collide with someone willing to exploit them.Elizabeth wasn't held for hours or days. She was a prisoner for nine months, subjected to repeated trauma and torture that would have broken most adults. But Elizabeth's story is not just about what happened to her. It's also about survival and strength. It's about a young girl who would later turn the unimaginable into advocacy and support for victims of kidnapping and sexual violence. Then in 1991, the killings abruptly stopped, leaving law enforcement and the public to wonder if the killer had vanished forever. For more than a decade, there was silence. Then in 2004, BTK resurfaced with new messages, reigniting fear in Wichita. But that renewed need for attention would ultimately be his downfall, and by the following year, detectives had identified the killer as Dennis Rader, a father of two, a Scout leader, and a trusted member of his church council. Rader was the last person anyone suspected of being a sexual sadist serial killer, but once investigators began putting all the puzzle pieces together, it became clear that Rader’s family-man persona was just a mask covering the monster beneath.Try our coffee!! - www.CriminalCoffeeCo.comBecome a Patreon member -- > ソ https://www.patreon.com/CrimeWeeklyShop for your Crime Weekly gear here --> ソ https://crimeweeklypodcast.com/shopYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CrimeWeeklyPodcastWebsite: CrimeWeeklyPodcast.comInstagram: @CrimeWeeklyPodTwitter: @CrimeWeeklyPodFacebook: @CrimeWeeklyPodADS:1. https://www.HelloFresh.com/CrimeWeekly10FM - Get 10 FREE meals and FREE breakfast for LIFE!2. https://www.Incogni.com/CrimeWeekly - Use code CRIMEWEEKLY for 60% off!3. https://www.HelixSleep.com/CrimeWeekly - Get 27% off sitewide NOW!4. https://www.EatIQBAR.com - Text WEEKLY to 64000 for 20% off ALL IQBAR products and FREE shipping!5. https://www.Rula.com/CrimeWeekly - Make your mental health your top priority today with Rula! A major development has cracked open the 15 year mystery of the Skelton brothers: John Skelton, the father of Andrew, Alexander, and Tanner, who vanished in 2010 while in his care, has been charged with three counts of open murder and three counts of evidence tampering, just days before his planned release from prison. A judge legally declared the brothers dead, though at that time ruled there was not enough evidence to confirm their father was responsible.Try our coffee!! - www.CriminalCoffeeCo.comBecome a Patreon member -- > ソ https://www.patreon.com/CrimeWeeklyShop for your Crime Weekly gear here --> ソ https://crimeweeklypodcast.com/shopYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CrimeWeeklyPodcastWebsite: CrimeWeeklyPodcast.comInstagram: @CrimeWeeklyPodTwitter: @CrimeWeeklyPodFacebook: @CrimeWeeklyPodADS:1. https://www.UncommonGoods.com/CrimeWeekly - Get 15% off your next gift!2. https://www.SurfShark.com/CrimeWeekly - Use code CRIMEWEEKLY for FOUR extra months of Surf Shark VPN!

Fri, 14 Nov 2025 - 1h 28min - 368 - S3 Ep357: A Body in the Tesla: The Unraveling Story of D4vd and Celeste Rivas Hernandez
A few months ago, we covered the disturbing case involving rising R&B artist David Anthony Burke, better known as D4vd, and the disappearance of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez from Riverside County, California. Celeste vanished in April of 2024, when she was just thirteen, and over time, online chatter began linking her to Burke, a singer whose breakout hits like Romantic Homicide and Here With Me had made him one of the biggest viral artists of the last few years. Those rumors took a horrifying turn in September of 2025, when Celeste’s remains were discovered inside an abandoned Tesla registered to Burke. Speculation was that the body had been in the vehicle for an extended period of time, and although the cause of death hasn’t been officially released, authorities were treating it as a homicide. Since then, Burke has cancelled his world tour, suspended upcoming releases, and become the focus of an active death investigation. As we learned in our first video, there were already unsettling connections between the two; from matching tattoos and online interactions to song lyrics and videos that many fans now view in a far darker light. Today, we have some updates in this case.Try our coffee!! - www.CriminalCoffeeCo.comBecome a Patreon member -- > ソ https://www.patreon.com/CrimeWeeklyShop for your Crime Weekly gear here --> ソ https://crimeweeklypodcast.com/shopYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CrimeWeeklyPodcastWebsite: CrimeWeeklyPodcast.comInstagram: @CrimeWeeklyPodTwitter: @CrimeWeeklyPodFacebook: @CrimeWeeklyPodADS:1. https://www.Wildgrain.com/CRIMEWEEKLY or use code CRIMEWEEKLY at checkout - For a limited time, Wildgrain is offering our listeners $30 off your first box PLUS free Croissants in every box!2. https://www.oneskin.co/CWN with code CWN - For a limited time, try OneSkin for 15% off using code CWN. Just after sunrise on October 30, 2004, police in a Richmond, Virginia suburb responded after a neighbor walking his dogs discovered the body of 52-year-old University of Richmond professor Dr. Fred Jablin lying in his driveway. He’d been shot multiple times as he went outside to grab his newspaper, something he did every morning.Inside the house, officers found his three children - still asleep, unaware of what had happened just beyond their front door. As police began to search the neighborhood for clues, one name surfaced again and again: Fred’s ex-wife, Piper Rountree. Their marriage had been volatile, their divorce bitter, and their custody battle filled with accusations that seemed to have no end. When detectives started tracing Piper’s movements before and after the shooting, they uncovered a series of bizarre and calculated choices - each one more unhinged than the last. And soon, it became clear that the story of Fred Jablin’s murder wasn’t just about one act of violence - it was about everything that led to it.Try our coffee!! - www.CriminalCoffeeCo.comBecome a Patreon member -- > ソ https://www.patreon.com/CrimeWeeklyShop for your Crime Weekly gear here --> ソ https://crimeweeklypodcast.com/shopYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CrimeWeeklyPodcastWebsite: CrimeWeeklyPodcast.comInstagram: @CrimeWeeklyPodTwitter: @CrimeWeeklyPodFacebook: @CrimeWeeklyPodADS:1. https://www.SimpliSafe.com/CrimeWeekly - Save 50% on a SimpliSafe home security system today!2. https://www.SmartCredit.com/CrimeWeekly - Start your 7-Day trial now!3. https://www.Rula.com/CrimeWeekly - Connect with quality therapists and prioritize your mental health today. 4. https://www.EatIQBAR.com - Text WEEKLY to 64000 for 20% off ALL IQBAR products and FREE shipping!
