Throughout this podcast, to protect the safety of witnesses and the integrity of the case names, voices and even genders are changed without notice.
In April of 1989 two Swedish tourists, Heidi Paakkonen and Sven Urban Hoglin disappeared without a trace only days before they were due to leave New Zealand.
Despite no bodies being found, David Wayne Tamihere was convicted of their murders. In October of 1991 Urban’s body was discovered 70km away from where the New Zealand Police said it should be, when it was discovered up a forest road in Parakiwai, near Whangamata.
Yet despite this contradictory new evidence and the eventual discovery that a key witness had committed perjury, David Tamihere was not successful in his appeals and served 21 years before being paroled in 2010.
To this day Tamihere has always maintained his innocence, that he never met the Swedish couple, and he certainly never murdered them.
It was almost three years ago, in December of 2023 that I released the final official episode of Season three of GUILT - Finding Heidi. This episode was the last in what had been an eight month investigation by myself to try and get to the truth, and more importantly to try and find Heidi.
Since the release of that episode my work has not stopped, in fact it has amplified, as I’ve worked with the New Zealand Police to ensure that fresh evidence I’ve uncovered has been actioned appropriately with one final goal in mind, to find Heidi.
Over this series of episodes which I’m calling Finding Heidi - Part Two Endgame, you’re going to hear the story of this year’s work, and how it led to a recent event, which I believe is the most important development in this case in 30 years..
Everything you’re going to hear is new, and has never been heard before.
And by the end, this case will never be the same again.

Tue, 01 Sep 2026 - 41min - 199 - Season 7 | Searching For Sara | TRAILER
In March 2003, Sara Niethe drove out to a property at Kaihere, on the Hauraki Plains, and was never seen again. She was 32 years old, a mother of three. Neither she nor her car has ever been found.
Twenty three years later, the man at the centre of it has told four different versions of that day, has served his sentence, and has never said where she is.
In season seven of Guilt, Ryan Wolf takes up the search for Sara Niethe. New episodes coming very soon.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
This season is an active search, and the people who can end it are almost certainly reading this.
We want to hear from you if:
You knew Sara Niethe, or knew Mark Pakenham, or knew anyone around him in 2003You lived, worked, farmed or hunted around Kaihere, Ngatea, Patetonga or the wider Hauraki and Thames districts in 2003You saw a light green 1987 Honda Civic hatchback, registration NH4050, in 2003 or at any time sinceYou know of ground that was dug, filled, drained or built over around that time, or of a digger being used somewhere it had no reason to beSomebody once told you something about this, and you have carried it sinceHow to reach us
Website: www.theguiltpodcast.comEmail: brevitystudiosnz@gmail.comYou do not have to give us your name.THE CASE, IN BRIEF
Sara Niethe was last seen on Sunday 30 March 2003, having driven to a property at Kaihere in the Hauraki district. Her light green 1987 Honda Civic hatchback, registration NH4050, disappeared with her and has never been located.
In 2011, Mark Pakenham was charged with her murder. In February 2013 he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter, on the basis that he administered methamphetamine to Sara and that she died. He was sentenced in August 2013 to six years and seven months, and released on parole in 2016. He has never disclosed the location of her body or her car.
Please note: Mark Pakenham was convicted of manslaughter, not murder.

Mon, 31 Aug 2026 - 3min - 198 - S3 Update & Re-Introducing - THE VEIL | Episode 53 | Where is Sara Niethe?
S3 Finding Heidi Update
Ryan is currently still working on the final two episodes of Finding Heidi Endgame. There are a couple important loose ends that need to be tied up to conclude the season. So this week we're re-introducing The Veil with the Subscriber only special episode - Where is Sara Neithe?
On Sunday 30 March 2003, Sara Niethe drove out of Kerepehi in her mother's light green Honda Civic, stopped at a dairy in Ngatea where a security camera recorded her, and carried on to a house at Kaihere. She was never seen again. Her daughter turned ten the next day, with a table booked at a café. Ten years later Mark Pakenham pleaded guilty to her manslaughter — he had injected her with methamphetamine, a drug she had never used, and watched her die. He was paroled in 2016. Sara has never been found. Neither has the car.
IF YOU KNOW SOMETHING
The car is the most useful thing anyone can help with: a light green 1987 Honda Civic hatchback, registration NH4050, which vanished from the Kaihere / Ngatea / Thames area around 30–31 March 2003 and has never surfaced at a wrecker, been re-registered, or turned up in a drain or a paddock. Investigators believe that wherever the car is, Sara is with it.
Anything else helps too — ground turned over on a farm that autumn, a paddock people were told to keep out of. You do not have to have done anything wrong to know about it.
Bruce Currie, private investigator and former Waikato CIB senior detective, who has worked this case pro bono with Sara's family — 027 844 1349, bruce@mrtracer.co.nz. In confidence.
NZ Police non-emergency: 105.
Crime Stoppers: 0800 555 111 — anonymous.
A NOTE ON SOURCING
Mark Pakenham pleaded guilty to manslaughter in February 2013 and was sentenced in the High Court at Hamilton on 16 August 2013 to six years seven months. He was also convicted of two counts of injuring with intent to injure, relating to two women in Auckland between 1990 and 1992; those appear only because the sentencing judge relied on them in open court. He was paroled on 22 June 2016. This episode does not report on his life since. He later denied the account he pleaded guilty to; the Parole Board said this suggested "a person who is dishonest".
No other person has ever been charged over Sara's death. The episode refers to one man, unnamed, recorded as having been in contact with Pakenham that day, who died in 2018. He was never charged, no court has made any finding about him, and no allegation is made against him.
There was no trial, so no tested evidence and no judgment of fact — only an agreed summary and a sentencing. There is no forensic record: no remains, no post-mortem, no toxicology, no scene examination, no vehicle. Sara's age is reported variously as 30, 31 and 32; we used 31. The view that Pakenham had help disposing of Sara and the car is Bruce Currie's, and is not a finding of any court; police say there is no evidence of it. In October 2024, after an 18-month review, police found no reason to reopen the file.

Tue, 28 Jul 2026 - 31min - 194 - S4 | Episode Two (Re-Release) | DNA
On the night of 9th November 1996, Alana Cecil, who had only recently turned 16, was excited to attend the Djerriwarrh Bonfire Festival in the small city of Melton, just out of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia.
When she left home that night it would be the last time her family would ever see her alive. Sometime in the early hours of November 10th 1996, someone or some people took a syringe and injected Alana Cecil twice, once in each arm, with a lethal dose of Heroin. They then dumped her body in the back driveway of a vacant home.
Eight years later a DNA breakthrough identified the semen of two men on and in Alana's body. One being a 49 year old man known to Police, who when questioned by Police simply answered 'No Comment'. Neither these men, nor anyone else has ever been held accountable or responsible for Alana's death. And neither man has been able to offer a valid reason their DNA was present.
For 28 years Alana's family have fought for answers, and justice for Alana. Now through this podcast we're hoping that with your help those responsible for her death will finally get what they deserve. In Season Four of GUILT - The Night of the Bonfire, Ryan heads Down Under, to Melbourne Australia to search for the truth. What happened to Alana Cecil?

One year before Jessica's disappearance, on July 16th 1998. 25 year old British Backpacker Celina Bridge vanishes without a trace after last being seen walking down Boolooumba Creek Rd, in Kenilworth. Three months prior to Jessica's disappearance, on May 28th 1999, 46 year old teachers aide and animal over Sabrina Ann Glassop vanishes without a trace, also from Boolooumba Creek Rd.

Three months prior to Jessica's disappearance, on May 28th 1999, 46 year old teachers aide and animal over Sabrina Ann Glassop vanishes without a trace, also from Boolooumba Creek Rd.
The one thing in common, these women all came into contact with Derek Sam.
In Season Six of Guilt, Ryan heads into the untamed hinterland of Australia looking for the missing piece of the puzzle. In an attempt to answer the question, where is Jessica? And what happened to Celina Bridge and Ann Glassop.

If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse—whether physical, emotional, or sexual—support is available. You don’t have to navigate it alone. Reaching out to a trusted person, a local support service, or a confidential helpline can be a first step toward safety and recovery. If you’re in immediate danger, contact emergency services. Otherwise, consider speaking to a trained professional who can help you understand your options and connect you with the right resources in your area.

Thu, 25 Sep 2025 - 3min - 127 - Introducing: The Veil - A new weekly True Crime show from Brevity Studios
The Veil is a chilling true crime podcast that pulls listeners deep into the world’s darkest and most haunting cases. Hosted by investigative journalist Ryan Wolf, each episode is crafted like an immersive thriller — a story told not just through facts, but through atmosphere, tension, and detail that makes you feel as though you’re standing inside the crime scene itself.
These are not urban legends or ghost stories; every case is real, every victim and every clue drawn from documented fact. From unsolved murders to bizarre disappearances, infamous trials to cold cases that still whisper through history, The Veil strips back the layers of time and rumor to confront the unsettling truths hidden beneath.
With an eye for detail and a voice that guides you through the shadows, Ryan brings both journalistic rigor and cinematic storytelling to each 30-minute episode. What emerges is an experience that is at once gripping and unnerving, reminding us that the scariest stories are not fiction at all.
Pull back the veil — but beware. Because sometimes, when we lift it, we don’t like what we find.
Available wherever you get your podcasts.

Tue, 22 Jul 2025 - 6min - 117 - A statement in relation to recent developments in Finding Heidi
This update is a statement from Ryan in relation to today's news story in New Zealand covering the discovery of human remains, that could possibly be those of Heidi Paakkonen.
"It is very important to be clear that I'm not saying they are hers, but only that they could be. And the only way to know for sure is to find them. I'm calling for a second, more detailed search.
There is a lot more to this story than just a person finding a skeleton. Obviously there is more evidence at play, when I can I will share this, but for now going public with what I have today was the best way to move the case forward.
Thanks for all your patience and understanding with this." - Ryan

Sun, 26 Jan 2025 - 53min - 102 - S4 | Alana Cecil Case Update
Today’s episode is an update on Season Four, The Night of the Bonfire, in which I investigated the tragic death of 16 year old Alana Cecil in Melton, Australia in 1996.
I want to thank all the local listeners in that case for their support in what was the most difficult case I’ve worked on to date.
If you listened to this season (and I highly recommend you do), you’ll be aware of the emotional toll this case took on not only myself but others directly involved.
When I released the final episode of this season in September of 2024, I made it clear that this was not the end of the investigation, but just the end of the podcast, for now.
Throughout the final months of my investigation I had been working increasingly closely with Victorian Police on new developments in the case, evidence that was not included in the podcast.
At this point I felt the appropriate move was to pass this new evidence on to Police so that they may use their vast resources to investigate further.
I firmly believed that these leads were the strongest in the case to date and that the truth of what happened to Alana was finally after 28 years, was very close.
In November of 2024 I was informed by the Senior Detective I had been liaising with, that a report was being compiled based on the new evidence and was being sent to the Superintendent for review.
Then in December the news that Alana’s family have been waiting 28 years to hear.
After reviewing the evidence Victorian Police made the decision that there will be an official further review of Alana’s case in 2025.
This review will be undertaken by a newly formed team of four detectives, who will thoroughly canvas the existing case and the fresh evidence in an attempt to finally get to the truth.
Since that time I have provided further evidence to Police to assist in their investigation and continue to provide support where required.
Naturally Alana’s family are ecstatic with this development, and for myself and the Podcast this is a huge win.
This is what it’s all about, this is why I put in the hours and why you listen and engage, so I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support and to those who subscribe, you're a huge part of making all of this possible.
The review of Alana’s case is underway now, and hopefully 2025 will be the year we finally get the truth and justice for Alana and her family.

Sun, 29 Dec 2024 - 5min - 100 - S3 | Part 2 | Finding Heidi: Endgame | Update
An extremely difficult decision, but one that had to be made. GUILT: Finding Heidi Endgame is being paused until further notice.
But the silver lining - Season Five of GUILT is coming very soon with the first episodes dropping for subscribers in January. And I promise this case is going to have you invested as I am in getting justice. You've never seen a case as tragic and brazenly wild as this one.
Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all your unwavering support in 2024.
I would like to wish you all a very Merry Xmas a Happy New Year and a fantastic holiday season.
Stay safe out there.
Ryan

It was almost one year ago, in December of 2023 that I released the final official episode of Season three of GUILT - Finding Heidi.
