One of the Girls

IMPORTANT CONTENT NOTE: This episode was recorded before October 7, 2023 and the ensuing violence in Gaza.

In this lost episode - originally intended to be the Season 1 finale of One of the Girls - Josie and Nina break down why Amy Heckerling's 1995 masterpiece Clueless and discover that it's actually a father-daughter story.

Season 2 coming soon!

Kevin Smith's "Chasing Amy" is the topic for this episode, and tangents include biphobia on "Sex and the City," Kevin Smith's deep love for comics, and which scene from this unexpectedly modern rom-com made Nina and Josie cringe so hard it hurt.

Josie and Nina checked out the new Netflix original movie "You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah" and talked about how enormous everything feels when you're thirteen, the movie's unexpected connections to Uncut Gems, Juicy Couture velour, and the Andy Goldfarbs of the world.

Sofia Coppola's most celebrated movie might be "Lost in Translation" — Josie and Nina's jumping-off point in this episode — but she's also made several tremendous movies about what it means to be a girl.

The Matrix changed movies forever when it came out — and it's also an incredibly important text for both Nina and Josie. They chat about limited edition Motorola phones, what inspired the Wachowskis, fanfiction, and the trans journey.

In this episode, Josie and Nina sit down to talk about the biggest summer movie of 2023: Greta Gerwig's "Barbie." Does it accomplish its lofty goals, or is it stuck in Weird Barbie's splits as it tries to do too much?

Taylor Alison Swift knows a thing or two about girlhood — she's made a whole career writing (amazing) songs about the ups and downs of being a girl. In this pilot episode, Josie and Nina talk everything Taylor, from the Eras Tour to Josie's old Livejournal musings.
